********************* TR1 Quintana Roo level **********************
                    July 19, 2002 the Vagrant

this is a small TR1 level i'm working on.
it's the first TombRaider level i ever built. it's sat on my hard drive
for 2-3 yrs. it's "migrated" to newer PCs as i bought them.

I've been able to add new features to this level as i learned to use them.
some things cannot be *rushed* apparently...however, i Will Not be
denied.

so i am releasing this level "as is" - for the time being.
this level is for-- Qudlatopec, who loves TR1 levels & is a
good 'Net friend of mine.

it's also for my friend Turbo, who got us all starting on this
with his first TR level editor so long ago...

I'm sure i'll work on it again; i love the "Lost Valley" TR1 level;
i want to add to it...in the same style, but somewhat different...

i have added my infamous "Lara Black" avatar to this TR1 level.
why?
because ...* I can* ....
anyways, years ago, when we were first playing TombRaider,
we all wanted Lara to look as nice as her advertising 3D model did.
so, with the help of a torso mesh model that Adam sent me a yr ago-
(which i've drasticly altered..) Lara now wears a 2 cup bra, insted of
the Core Design - 1 cup bra.
She sports a wasp-like waist any action girl would *kill* to have.
Lara Black wears red hair, green eyes, black top, boots, shorts & NO BACKPACK.
(build your own if you don't like mine...)

"Adventures in Quintana Roo" Web page is here:

*****************************************

Playing this level-

different ways to play this level.use TR1 Gold demo, open Rview program
and re-name this level as Egypt.tub, run it with the Tombub.exe; remember,
it needs the original TR1 CD-ROM in your CD drive when you use this free
demo...

Updated July 19,2002, it will NOW play in "Unfinished Business" (TR1 Gold demo)
i used smplfix.exe("samplefix") to correct the previous "no sound samples"
error message/refusal to play - at start-up. it now plays(with sounds) correctly.

another way:
download the TR1cracked tomb1.exe from my *TR Worlds* site.

http://home.acadia.net/userpages/vagrant/Features/NoFMV3D.zip

use this game engine to run the level. this level will run as the default name of "level1.phd"...

since this game engine was made for Voodoo 3dfx cards, it should play on your
non-3dfx machine in "software mode"(SVGA mode).

not to worry, it still looks ok...however, i need some feedback on this
as there is a possible *texture transparency* with TRtexture 2.6 version that
does not accurately do "transparent textures"(all of the time..)

it seems to "enter them" as transparent- but when the game plays-
they're not.it's in the "palm tree" static mesh; i may have made
a mistake (when) building this model; we'll see.
anyways-

if you have the Voodoo2, Voodoo3 or Voodoo5 video card...(but NOBODY has the
Voodoo 1 like i do; except Qudlatopec & Quad...hehe...)
you can download the NudeRaider CD-ROM emulator. use it!

this emulator WILL play user-created TR1 levels.
(however, do not try to make my Quintana Roo "Lara Black" nude;
it won't work; in fact it will screw up the level.if i get some
emails, maybe i'll make a topless version of Lara Black- i'm
inclined Not to, as i like level building better.I'm trying to
be a kinder, gentler Vagrant(if ya' catch my drift...)

i know the NR emulator works because i ALSO have a voodoo3 card installed on
my 2nd(Win98) machine;that's how i run Voodoo3 TR1 levels- i use the "VoodooRush"
 patch and it's .bat file.
i set it up so that the game loader .bat file points to
("NudeRaider emulator") first ,then the VoodooRush Tomb1.exe-- it works slick!

the VoodooRush patch is located here for download(if you have a
Voodoo2,voodoo3 or Voodoo5 video card) :

http://home.acadia.net/userpages/vagrant/hitlist.html

the only drawback is... you can't take screenshots . only the original
Voodoo1 video card and the useage of "supergrab" screencapture & "snap3dfx"
programs will allow you to do that...

Well, there is another way to take TR1 screenshots-
run the game as "Egypt.tub" in the Unfinished Business Net demo.
(without sound, of course{sorry!}..)use the ? key to the left
of the right shift key- be careful with this!!! screencaptures are taken
every 1/4 second!!! just tap the ? key on --- then tap it off(quickly)..
you'll see tiny lettering in the upper left hand corner that says "recording"...
the captures are saved as .pcx files; many of them! be careful using this!

to change my TR1 Quintana Roo level(or any other TR1 level .phd file) to a
Unfinished Business .tub file, please use Rview to open the file, then save it as

Egypt.tub

ok, so the other way to take screen captures and see TR1 levels
in beautiful OpenGL rendering(much like the original 3Dfx rendering)
is to use---

 the openGL "GLiDOS" program.

if you don't mind experimenting, you might want to try the GLiDOS
program(it's free) to see if you machine will play TombRaider(TR1) in
OpenGL rendering- which is an approximation of 3dfx rendering.
don't know how well this works, i can't get it to run on my Win Xp
machine yet, but that doesn't mean anything.....check their web page here:

www.glidos.com

yes, i know it's a BIG hassle - playing TR1 levels, you know that this old
game is hopelessly obsolete. *pity* ! newer video cards have gone right
by this game. of course Core Design isn't going to do anything to help people
re-discover this old, great classic game. like re-write a patch for it, which
they could easily afford to do.
they're to busy making money

consider yourself a maverick - if you want to play TR1 games.
I'm real proud that 7 people played my last TR1 level- "Villa Mortale II"...

(those are 7 really G.O.O.D friends of mine..thanks guys & a girl).
i happen to love TR1, so I've keep all of the computers i've ever bought.
this way, i can play any of the games from the era of this particular machine.
there's No Point in discarding your "old computer"- who the $#!? wants it anyways?

why I am I suddenly a "renegade" in my thinking? i always thought it was
pretty easy to understand...kind of like this:

if you want a 1959 Corvette, you need to go to where the 59 'Vettes are.
learn about them. find 1 of these old cars, learn who has the parts for them.
learn who drives them.hang-out in 59 'Vette land; soak IT IN...
but don't expect a modern day Corvette to look, sound or perform like a 59'-
don't blow smoke up yer' arse - insted, try to learn, during your short stay in
this world...
