Hi and welkom on my new custom game of tombraider "The Sanctuary of Water, Ice and Fire".
This is the first version 1.0

This readme file is always included together with the TOM files. If the TOM files should be updated there will also be a 
higher version number. If there will be an update only new TOM files can be downloaded cause WADS and AUDIO will be the same. 
This is because only TOM files are needed to correct levelbugs. The game is firmly tested by 3 people (including me ;o)) 
and if no bugs occur there will be no update. I added this piece of information if you are going to exchange savegames or 
use savegames that will come available. Using savegames from different versions will crash or CORRUPT!!! the game. 
So you can save yourself a lot of trouble to know which version your companion raider has.


NOTE FOR MAC PLAYERS!

For MAC players who use "Stuffit Expander" to open a compressed file might get troubles with converting TOM files. 
An error will say at the end of the conversion that sound files are not found. If this is the case do the following; 
 
Before decompressing the zip file, change the "file/preferances/cross platform/". Set the preferance to "Never". 
After decompressing you can set the preferance back to the default. As a mac user you will know how to follow that path.

INSTALLING THE GAME


ATTENTION:

EDIT bei l.m.:
Just Copy the TR4 data to folder "data" of TRLE folder.
You DON'T Build the TR4 data with Wad and Tom Files, they will be now include of this download!

If it's correct you should have the following four zip files downloaded.

Sanc_Audio1.zip    Extract all these files into;     C:/Program files/Core Design/trle/audio (in game music)
Sanc_Audio2.zip    As above (background audio) 

Sanc_Wads.zip      Extract all these files into;     C:/Program files/Core Design/trle/graphics/wads 

Sanc_Tom.zip       Extract the zip into a temp folder:

copy the seven "TOM" files into; C:/Program files/Core Design/trle/graphics/wads 

copy the 3 "scripts" files ;script.dat, english.dat, Strings.h into;C:/Program files/Core Design/trle  
copy the samples files into; C:/Program files/Core Design/trle/sounds/Samples

copy the file uklogo.pak into; C:/Program files/Core Design/trle/data 
copy the files load.bmp into; C:/Program files/Core Design/trle



There will be some tracks overwritten in the audio folder and some sound files will be overwritten. If you want 
to have the original files back again then reinstall the editor or backup these files. Dont forget to backup 
the 3 script files too! You can also choose to use the "custom installation" option when you use the trle CD and 
select these. This will be quicker.


CONVERTING THE LEVELS

Now that you have all the files on it's proper place you can open the Level Convertor. It is importent that you convert 
one level at a time! If you convert 2 or more levels in one session the levels can be corrupted and strange things 
may occur. When you have opened the converter click on the "Add" button underneath "Edit Script". Select the first of 
the seven TOM files that you must convert;

Bridge.TOM

Then click on "Build All" and a playable file will be created in the data folder. Close the Level Converter and reopen it. 
Repeat the above untill you have done all seven files. That's it! Run tombraider and enjoy 
"The Sanctuary of Water, Ice and Fire"...


STORY

Far away in a forgotten land on the border of snow there lies an unholy sanctuary. Centuries ago monks built this 
sanctuary of prayer to eternally bring peace to the world. From their pureness, a magical power was born 
and protected this sanctuary from all evil. All went well. Any evil that tried to enter & destroy
the sanctuaries peace, was slain by the the monk's divine power.

Thankful for this power amongest them, the monks built a second sanctuary & on the border of snow, the 
sanctuary of water was created. The melting snow from the mountains served the sanctuary for eternity with holy water. 
Then a third was build, the sanctuary of ice to freeze the good will of mankind & use it in time of need. And lastly, 
they built the sanctuary of fire, to burn the unholy thoughts of mankind.

But even monks... are only human; their goodwill went wrong. The power among them became too big and they could not 
control it. One by one, they fell to wickedness; their unholy thoughts turned into horrible demons. All was 
lost and evil found it's way across the world. However, there was one monk who survived. He burned his unholy 
thoughts & froze his goodwill. They became crystals and could not be touched by the dark evil. He escaped through 
the holy fountain and in the catacombs, he hid the key of the gate - to the sanctuary of water. He locked himself up, 
protected by the holy water.

He wrote a cry for help with a golden feather and sent his message with a white dove into the world. With the 
last power of the monk, the dove escaped safely from the sanctuaries evil grasp. But without his good will, the monk 
could not resist the evil within himself. His hope for salvation would never come true.

Centuries went by and the sanctuaries were forgotten by mankind. It became a legend after the scroll was found a 
hundred years ago. It was examinded by many explorers but no one could discouver the exact location of the sanctuaries. 
Some of them claimed to know it's location but they never returned from their quest. 

But things were about to change. Lara Croft just got home from an expedition in Egypt. Lara; "I'm bored Winston. Are there 
any more adventures left besides sand and pyramids?". "Well, Indiana Jones took some right out from under your nose but 
I think I have something different for you Miss Croft." Winston says. "Have you ever heard of the legend of the lost 
sanctuaries?". Lara; "Cathedrals and such, sounds interesting. Where is it?"

After Winston explaned it has not been found yet Lara and Winston travel to the museum in Londen where the monk's scroll 
was kept to get a copy of it. Back home they start their research. Lara; "Did you notice something Winston back at 
the museum? The true scroll was written with golden ink. That probably means that a golden feather is used. This will be 
my new quest item!" and Lara smiles.

Through the books from her fathers library in the Croft mansion Lara starts her research to decipher the scroll and to 
find out were the sanctuaries are hidden. After days of research she finally finds it. Lara; "Winston, get the chopper 
ready. We're going on an adventure!". They begin their journey and after a flight to an unknown location the first ruins 
of the sanctuaries loom up in snowy mountains. 

On a flat area in the cold snow Winston unloads the snowmobile and some other stuff. Lara; "What are those crates for 
Winston?". Winston; "O, just some helpfull stuff that you might need later." Lara; "Ah, you're not worried are you?" 
Winston; "Ofcourse not but you never know. Take this tracking device, whenever you need me I'll be there with 
the chopper!". After a final goodluck from Winston Lara slides down into a new big adventure...


HINTS AND TIPS

After my adventure with "The Last Crusade" I had in mind to drop the curtain for the LE. That's why it was called "The 
Last Crusade" ;o). But after one month of rest my LE blood crawled into my vein again and I wanted to create the level; 
"Arabian Night". When I created the first rooms I changed my idea into the sanctuaries. So when you reach the Holy Fountain 
you are actually looking at the first rooms for "Arabian Night". After 10 months I'm happy to give you this adventure and I 
hope I did not make it as frustrating as "The Last Crusade". Each level has 3 secrets so when you have 21 secrets in 
the statistics screen you have seen every corner of the game ;o).

If you are a beginner and not so experienced with what Lara can do then here are some little hints that you may need. 
Ofcourse I presume that you have played one of the tombraider series for all common moves. 
If you dont want any hints then just dont scroll down. There is nothing more down there anyway :O).

You could not resist huh! :O) Here are the tips;

Some static objects are not only to look at and may help Lara to reach a certain spot or to take something. 
When Lara holds her pistols and she is waist high in water Lara will fire under the waterlevel when she jumps. 
3 special secrets can be found to enter a secret area at the end of the game. One of each can be found in the 
Holy Fountain level and in the Sanctuary of Ice and Fire. Ofcourse these secrets are for the super experts out 
there ;o). All levels are linked except when you reach the Sanctuary of Water, then there is no way back! 
Lara can jump and grab a ledge 7 clicks high. Some of these hights are on slopes. When Lara reach such places 
using the jump button and grab does not work. In that case you must use the action button to let Lara grab the 
legde automaticly. If you have a torch and there is ice, well what could you try?
