LEVEL 1: MINES

Lara begins in the back end of a partly submerged cave. Swim forward and climb out of the water, following the tunnel until you are in front of a break-away floor tile. Follow the railroad track to a pushable Natla crate and push it three times, at which point a side passage is revealed and a boulder comes at you—immediately backflip to get out of harm's way! Go through the newly revealed corridor to find yourself in a lava filled cave. Grab the shotgun shells and jump across to the larger rocky ledge to find the first FUSE. As you do so, a flying atlantean shows up, so deal with it before retracing your steps back to that break-away floor tile.

Use the flat rocks to reach an opening in the back corner of the cave and get the small medipack behind a blockade. Work your way down the tunnels to reach another underwater grotto, this one with cranes and suspended platforms. Before anything else, dive into the water and explore the side passages for some supplies as well as SECRET #1 in a small underwater alcove.

Get out of the water and go into the nearby control cabin. A flying atlantean will show up, kill it before placing the fuse into its receptacle. Pull the Natla crate from the wall and push it through the gap in the windows so you can climb onto it from the outside. The niche behind the original block position houses some ammo. Use the Natla crate as a stepping stone to reach the hanging platforms above and clear a series of simple jumps to reach a lever. Drop down to the shotgun shells just outside the control cabin and swim back to the entrance.

Climb the rocky platforms directly opposite the cabin entrance and do a running jump to grab the raised trapdoor. Before heading through the open door, grab the nearby magnum rounds. Follow the rocky perimeter of the lava cave to find a lever which activates a piece of machinery, as well as raises some trapdoors and attracts another flying atlantean to your location. Gun it down, then backtrack the long way to the area where we'd originally found the fuse (follow the cave tunnels behind the stack of tires until you return to the railroad track with the Natla's crate at the end).

Ignore the trapdoors for a second and do a running jump to the flat spot to the side of the RX75 drill to find SECRET #2 at the end: a small medipack and the SHOTGUN. Jump back and across the raised trapdoors, get the supplies in the winding tunnel and save your game as the path opens up. As you run down the ramp, you'll hear boulders coming from somewhere—not just behind you, but above you! You can retreat just in time, or you can rush down and jump into the passage on the left hand wall to dodge them.

Next up is an area with two barricaded buildings. Head right for some more Natla crates, get another FUSE atop the one surrounded by break-away tiles, then head into the pathway between the crates to face off a flying atlantean and claim a large medipack from its lair. Return to the two buildings and go through the tunnels on the opposite end now.

As you cross the threshold up the ramp, a boulder will roll down, so quickly roll and jump out of the way. Activate the lever behind the gnashing teeth to open a door between the two buildings, but, before heading back there, go all the way up the ramp. Turn around so your back is against the dark slope, then backflip and bounce off to grab a ledge just above where you'll find a couple of medipacks as SECRET #3.

Return to the two barricaded buildings and be aware that this door threshold also triggers a builder, so quickly hop back and out of the way. Inside, the camera will pan out to show a suspended shack; our goal is to drop into the lava below. Follow the path to the left side, grabbing a large medipack on a tall rock in the corner, and hop to the scorched tilted surface on the other side of the pit.

Notice the closed wooden door up on the wall and hop across to the railroad tracks near another building, but don't be hasty as another boulder rolls along. Ignore this alleyway for now and keep following the ledges around the perimeter of the pit. Another flying atlantean can make short work out of you, so don't let it get too close. As you run up a small ramp, take notice of the spikes down ahead and turn to the right, run and jump across the tall rocky pillars in the center to collect the MAGNUMS from the center one and another FUSE from the farther one. Use the hanging shack to return, walking through the spike trap and jumping over the slope as close to the wall as possible, then head into the alleyway with the railroad tracks.

As soon as you come across another cabin, yet another flying atlantean will strike. This cabin requires three fuses, so let's acquire the last one. Jump into the water and swim over the submerged tracks to climb out on the other end, then drop into a hole in the corner to find yourself in some sort of storage room. Only the cracked crate can be moved around, so pull it towards the entrance and to the corner to climb through an opening in the ceiling with SECRET #4: the UZIS. Now go through the corridor between the unmovable crates and climb into the small chamber alcove to find the final FUSE.

Return to the latest control cabin we've seen and insert the three fuses where they belong. As you walk in, a camera shot shows that door just before this alleyway. With the fuses in place and the magnum rounds from the corner in your backpack, follow the railroad tracks back to that door, which is now on your right side, and activate the switch inside.

The rumbling sound denotes we've accomplished our goal, so run around the perimeter again, but this time around hop over the spikes and climb down the safe rocks to get to the lava-sunk shack, then carefully hopscotch across the rocks on lava until you reach an atlantean-like structure at the bottom.

Three flames are burning on your way to a door, and a small opening on the right hand wall leads to a switch. This one is timed, however, but it only operates the door, so you need to space your jumps over the flames to prevent Lara from blazing up. Stay close to the borders, but keep a straight line towards the door to prevent from dropping into the lava.

Inside the door, the slope is safe but a boulder is waiting right around the bend, so disarm it by retreating quickly. Go into the dark passage where the boulder rolled from and turn around at the end to spot an opening in the ceiling. Climb into it to find assorted supplies as SECRET #5. Drop back down and head into the other pathway, and save your game just as you cross the gnashing teeth trap.

Another flying atlantean has been expecting you right outside, and it can either push you into either of the surrounding traps or simply hurt you to death, so use some heavy weaponry to dispatch it quickly. Hop into the rock right in front of you to slide down to a lower level, turn around and negotiate a series of jumps over the flat spots to reach the other end of this cave. Near the end, you will need to jump at an angle to land into the gap.

Use the rocks to climb back up to the upper level and hop your way to the corner with the lever. It opens a door just below, so backtrack to the lower level and head inside. Time your strides past the swinging axe trap to be faced with a series of perilous jumps over lava, sometimes coupled with another axe trap. On the other end lies a very atlantean chamber, with a centaur and a crawling atlantean as well as many lava pits, so it's in your best interest to save your game when you get there.

Climb up the steps for a couple of medipacks behind the columns and slide down through the open door to reach the next level...

LEVEL 2: LOST CITY

Right behind your starting position is a small medipack. Shortly after the scorched rocks there's a hidden large medipack, then loop around the rocks from the starting position for some shotgun shells. Use the scorched tile on the other side to cross the lava and reach the atlantean floor, then proceed to perform a series of jumps across safe spots in the lava until you are tasked with a long running jump to a pulsating floor ledge on the left end.

You enter some sort of settlement with a crawling atlantean firing at you from the top of a nearby structure. Enter the one immediately at the bottom of the steps and turn around to get a small medipack and spot two levers on the doorway. Walk on the bridge and turn towards the rocky wall to your right. Jump there and then onto a suspended block for another lever and some shotgun shells.

Return to the bridge and leap to the one straight ahead. The next structure is populated by another atlantean soldier, so you might want to kill it beforehand if given a chance. Inside, again turn around to spot a lever behind you. The door in the previous structure is now open, but don't go back just yet. Instead, get the shotgun shells on the structure where the first atlantean was and then jump towards the ledge with the pulsating textures to find some supplies hidden in the corner which denote SECRET #6.

Now, return to that first structure and head through the door. Kill the centaur atlantean at the top of the ramp and, when it's safe, throw the lever and get the shotgun shells up there. This lever floods the settlement and makes it safer to navigate. Underwater, locate the two PYRAMID KEYS, as well as a handful of supplies spread around. There's another exit underwater, beneath the second structure, but we need to open a door first, so, instead, just climb out of the water (on the second structure, to make things simpler).

Locate a sandstone opening up on a rocky wall and use the nearby flat ledge to get into it. As you run down the sandy tunnel, immediately loop around the wall to the left to dodge two incoming boulders. Place both keys to open the doors on the other side of the glass and jump over the boulders to return. Dive and this time swim underneath the second structure to emerge on that very room, kill the crawling atlantean and get the supplies from the ledge to the right of the door before going in.

As you approach the next hub, a centaur atlantean will make his presence known. In the nooks surrounding the entry point you can find shotgun shells and magnum rounds. Enter the hallway to the left and throw the lever at the end, minding the gnashing teeth trap, then use the blocks on the opposite end to reach the upper level where the open door is, protected by another set of gnashing teeth. Jump across the glass walkway to the opposite archway and find the passage amidst the pulsating wall to your right.

When you arrive at a ramp, a danger cue will play, so you might want to save your game. Run up to the third dark tile on the floor and quickly run to the side, rolling around to grab the edge of the lava pit just in time to dodge the boulders. Climb back up and follow the passage to find yourself at the bottom of a shaft, where an egg hatches immediately and lets loose a flying atlantean.

When you're in the clear, use the scorched block to the right to go West, up the ramp. There are four burning pillars, but if you land (or grab the edge and climb up) on the very corner, Lara won't go up in flames. Get on the walkway above and approach the large medipack with weapons drawn as another flying atlantean is about to break out of its shell. Get the PYRAMID KEY and then return to the ledge below. What worked flawlessly for me was walking to the very edge, facing the safe corners of the pillars below, then tapping the Roll button to propel Lara downwards, then turning around and repeating the process to land on the pulsating walkway.

Return to the bottom of the shaft and hop across to the right to enter the North passage. There are a lot of blocks to move around, but plenty of space to maneuver. Just pull them out of the way to reach the tunnels they are hiding, where you will find a handful of ammo pick-ups as well as a lever next to a large medipack. We now want to get back to the shaft bottom and up the East passage, so leap around the platforms around the room, dealing with a flying atlantean as you do so. Before heading in, you can jump to the flat scorched spot to the right of the entrance and over the lava pit for a couple of hidden medipacks.

Head up the next passage but don't run into the open door at the end just yet! Instead, grab the bloody seam on the wall to the right and shimmy on this invisible crack all the way to a catwalk above the entrance, where you'll find SECRET #7: a large medipack and uzi clips. Now cross the door to reach an upper level of the shaft. On the dark blocks to your left, you can get some shells and a small medipack. Approach the shaft and notice the receptacle for your key on the pillar to the right, then leap to the door which opens nearby.

Get the medipacks from the crannies between the pulsating walls, and do a running jump at an angle from the one farthest from the entrance to reach an upper ledge. Climb up and immediately hop back to grab the edge as a boulder makes its way through this narrow walkway, then climb up and proceed the path from where it came from.

The four trapdoors drop as you pass over them, but only the first one is of interest. Jump over it to make it fall, then look downwards to see a lower pathway just off to the side. Facing it an angle, press Roll to propel Lara while holding Action down to glide right onto safety. Follow the corridor to return to the shaft: we're about halfway to the top now. Two atlanteans are flying around, dispatch with them before doing a long jump to the platforms toward the opposite end as the next eggs hatch and unleash another three flying beasts upon you. Get the small medipack along the way and be careful, as they might just as well push you to your doom.

In the next passage, to your left is another receptacle but we don't have anymore keys, so drop into the cave to the right and from the center of the rock leap to the flat spot just behind the tall rock on the left. As you land, another crawling atlantean will be firing at you, so kill it from this confined space while healing as needed (you should have plenty of medipacks by now). Keep heading down the lava stream via the safe rocky spots to eventually find the PYRAMID KEY at the bottom.

Return the same way you came, taking a quick detour for a small medipack if you feel inclined to, then proceed to open that door. Kill the eager flying atlantean, get the magnum rounds, and climb up the rocks in a counterclockwise fashion starting from the door to reach a passage at the top with a small medipack.

We've finally reached the top of the shaft. Use the glass walkways to your advantage as you deal with the centaur and crawling atlantean, just keep in mind that if you slip off you're gone. Pick up the ammunition and activate the two levers, then lower yourself through the open trapdoor and slide down to the next area.

From this advantage point, you can't see the bottom, so it's pretty much a leap of faith (ie. save your game). Go to the extreme left of this ledge and take a running jump, aiming at the yellow smudge on the opposite wall. Swim to the left to get out of the water.

Now, here's one tricky secret. If you look back to the side where you dropped from, you'll spot a large medipack in the distance. The only way to get to it, however, is by doing a precise running jump around the rocky slope blocking the path, in order to land on another slope behind it and immediately backflip to the slope jutting out over the water. It's essentially a dreaded banana jump. Perhaps this brief video will do a better job at explaining this. Your reward is SECRET #8, obviously.

Head through the passage on the opposite end of the hallway and slide down to face the atlantean abomination. You should have enough weaponry on you to make short work of it, but it's still quite a bullet sponge. Collect the supplies scattered around the room and locate the lever on a rock, in the middle of the room, to open the exit door.

A centaur atlantean is guarding an empty pedestal, but behind the pulsating columns you can find two bundles of magnum rounds. Before dropping through the hole in the rocky tunnel, save your game. The camera angle will shift, so you need to time your jump perfectly to land on the next slope (pro tip: if you slide with weapons drawn, the camera will stay behind you, but it's a short slope so you still need to react just as quickly). As you approach the end of the slide, you'll hear the rumbling noise of a boulder hot on your heels, immediately head down to the right side, towards the camera, as another pair of boulders come from the opposite side.

After you slide down another time, two centaurs and one crawling atlantean will try to do what the traps failed to. The glass door in the structure ahead opens upon approach and lets you into a small trove of supplies.

Step on the five golden pyramid tiles scattered around the room (one is a slope in the lava, bounce backwards to safety) to open the large door in the corner. Inside, kill the crawling atlantean and loop to the right side of the entrance for a small room with a lever, protected by a gnashing teeth trap. Head back and through either trapped doorway to find the open door on, then cross the cave and slide into darkness to finish this adventure.
