After the introductory FMV, you find yourself standing on the other side of the burning gas tanker and a handful of speedy zombies populating the road. Your pistols have unlimited ammo, and you can actually kill the undead by shooting them until they fall down, which might take a while but will result in less threats as you move on.

 

Either way, right near the beginning jump over the barricades on the left side to find some grenades hidden beneath a dead body (grab it by the shoulders), then proceed towards the bend. As you approach the next burning car, make a hasty retreat as the explosion is likely to hurt or even kill you.

 

Before going for the game shop in this plaza, I'd suggest following the road to the left all the way to a gun shop to find a TYPEWRITER first in order to save your game. Dispatch another group of zombies on your way there, get some flares in the corner behind the car, and walk in either through the door or by shooting the glasses. The shop owner is friendly (but you might want to kill him for an easy SHOTGUN). Get some shotgun shells and a first aid spray from the counters (plus an extra box of shells up on a crawlspace in the corner), push the button and then approach the typewriter to save your game.

 

Let's head back to the plaza where the car last exploded for a secret. Get the revolver ammo right around the corner and do a running jump over the burning asphalt tiles. Shoot your way into the game shop, get the uzi clips from the counter, and you can look at a couple of things for Claire's thoughts (such as the TV or the display in the back). If you check the dark NW corner of the room, you'll notice a crawlspace near the ceiling, so climb onto the nearby shelves and grab the monkey swing to reach it. Drop on the other side and shoot the stacks of boxes to reveal the UZIS plus a Lottie bear (SECRET #1). Head back and jump over the burning tiles to get back to the gun shop.

 

Approach the typewriter to save your game again and go through the door we opened earlier on. Kill two zombie dogs outside and head to the area with the hanging crates, do an U-turn and climb the lattice wall near the shopping cart to find a jump switch at the top. This opens a door past the puddle to your left, where you can claim some uzi ammo and another Lottie bear (SECRET #2) from the trash cans.

 

Run around the bend and a cutscene will play. As you proceed further on you'll hear the heavy steps of Mr. X closing in on you. Gun him down and throw the lever by the white vehicle to release another group of zombies. In the next area, get the green herb near the graffiti, shoot the red barrel near the center from a safe distance and walk through the opening near the burning trash bag. On the other end of the stairs, push the trash containers to clear your path, picking up some revolver ammo as you do so.

 

Deal with two zombies, plus a zombie dog which might charge you from the back, and then drag the dead body near the pizzeria for some shotgun shells. Just behind the bus is a sentry gun; stay close to the wall as you sprint past it and through the gap on the other side, suffering some damage along the way. We have finally made it to the Raccoon Police Station! We'll be back (much later) for the trench, so just go to the main door and walk right inside.

 

The huge fountain right in front of you has a round receptacle, so let's go fetch what's missing. Run around to the counter behind the fountain, get a green herb hidden within the plants on the left side and a KEY CARD on the counter itself. Use it on the terminal near the door. In the waiting room, another TYPEWRITER awaits for you, and some uzi clips are hiding on top of the shelves. Open the next door and you'll see a switch in the distance, go flick it and walk past the shelves for another cutscene.

 

Shoot down the licker that drops in front of you and head through the open door in the back. Kill the zombies and dogs around the bend, then climb on top of the forklift from where you can reach a monkey swing that will take you to the next Lottie bear (SECRET #3). Proceed to the hall with boarded windows and open the door to the press room. Get the REVOLVER from the desk, and from here can drop to the underground area where another zombie awaits. Textures in this area suggest something else will be here in the finished version, but at least we can already use the TYPEWRITER.

 

Climb the ladder back up and open the door in the next dark corner of the hallway. Shoot down the zombie by the chairs and get the first aid spray behind him, then get the revolver ammo near the stairs before going up to the second floor. Move the bust sculpture towards the different tile near the door to open it, get some flares in the corner and go inside. Claire will spot a little girl in the distance but there's not much you can do about her just yet: get the revolver ammo in the corner she ran from, and notice two different key locks.

 

Open the only door that you can to find another TYPEWRITER. In the dark room, get some shotgun shells and open the door to the toilet to find a button inside. It opens a door in the first floor, where we first faced a licker. Before going all the way back there, examine the cabinets near the typewriter to find a FUSE hidden inside. Go downstairs and into the open door. Shoot the boxes inside the evidence room to find the S.T.A.R.S. KEY, and as you pick it up, immediately roll and face a second licker —four revolver shots will get rid of it.

 

Return upstairs, dealing with another zombie and a licker on your way, and use the key on the first lock you come across. Inside the S.T.A.R.S. office, shoot the boxes in the back for a GRENADE LAUNCHER and examine the hanging red bag for a first aid spray. You can spot a password in the computer screen, although it doesn't serve any purpose whatsoever in this demo. Get the UNICORN MEDALLION from the other desk. Remember the fountain at the entrance of the station?

 

Downstairs, go all the way back and place the medallion on the fountain to make the SPADE KEY (and a zombie dog) materialize. Get the key, but don't rush back upstairs just yet; let's go outside and explore that trench now. At the bottom, open the door to a basement and get the shotgun shells as you hear someone grunt elsewhere. Shoot the ventilation grate and crawl to the other end. Open the toilet door to find the source of the grunt, as well as some revolver ammo by his feet, then place the fuse in the receptacle nearby.

 

Follow the red carpeted hallway for the closet, where you'll find the last Lottie bear (SECRET #4), and you can approach the curtains to get Claire in cosplay. Time to go use that key: crawl back to the basement, head back into the station and go up to the second floor —more zombie enemies might have spawned, so be aware. Use the key to rendezvous with Leon and push open the double wooden doors for him (what a gentleman).

 

In the library, head up the stairs to the top of the shelves and jump steering around the hanging beam to the platform behind it. Step on the break-away tile to make it drop and quickly hop back, then jump and grab the edge of the opposite crawlspace. Don't climb into it, but instead shimmy around the corner and pull down the jump switch. The door is at the top of the stairs, dropping off to the right side. Claire and Leon decide to split up again and this demonstration comes to an end...
