EMPORIA – LOST IN THE CITY (DEMO)

Level by Mr. XY

Walkthrough by Treeble

After Lara gets locked away into a cell, you get the CAPTURED journal update (press the Tab key to open it, or select the option from the Load icon in the inventory menu). Run up to the wall right opposite the door and grab the ledge above, shimmy all the way to the right and perform a sideways ledge jump to the crawlspace above.

Notice the crawlspace leading left is barred by lasers and follow the only possible path. Along the way you'll spot some flares next to a fragile vent grate. Drop down at the end to a small storeroom where you'll notice some red floating exclamation marks. These are visual clues, one of them rests right above your ever trusty PISTOLS, whereas the other is on a locked cupboard. Not much you can do for that one yet, so take the small medipack from the shelves on the side and pull back up into the crawlspace you came from by jumping from the ledge on the wall.

You can now shoot that unstable grate, halfway through the crawlspace, to enter a second cell. As you approach the door, the guard and dog outside will be alarmed and kindly open the gate for you. Step out and another guard will be shooting from behind the laser trap. Look for a circuit breaker box high up in the back and shoot it with your pistols to disable the security systems. With the laser traps shut down, you can press the button to enter your own cell and pull up into the crawlspace above again, this time taking the left path to find some GOLD.

Return to the security office and collect the GOLD left behind by the guard. The button on the left opens the door back to the storeroom, with the locked cupboard (we'll be back shortly), so proceed through the other gate after peeping into the computer screen for an important password code (for your convenience: 2837).

From the Security room balcony, jump over to the floating islets, then to the ledges on the wall in order to reach the balcony just above the Security office. Down the stairs, find a floor lever at the end which opens the tall door opposite the Security office, so make your way across by carefully dropping off to the islets below.

Enter the temple and interact with the book on the pedestal in front of you for some lore. Go through either exit on the opposite end to reach the place where Lara was originally captured, not much in this area other than some GOLD hidden in a corner next to the yellow star tile. Return to the previous room and just past the first central column, look right to spot an alcove in the wall. Use it to climb up, then jump to the plant on top of the central column and hang off the edge to ledge jump backwards to grab the alcove behind you, where you'll find a plinth with GOLD.

Repeat the routine to get back to the plant and do a series of non-stop running jumps over the chandeliers to get to the alcove above the entrance. Hop over the gap to a floor lever on the left, and you'll find more GOLD inside a shatterable vase on the right. Drop through the gap to find the open door right in front of you, head inside to meet another guard who is carrying a pair of UZIS. Approach the panel on the wall and Lara will learn she can switch the position of a floating platform just outside, so activate the switch on the wall to lower it and head back outside.

From the islets, jump to the long platform and over the railings to the other side of the main square. Looks like we need a fuse, eh? To the right, past the butterflies, is a path you can't reach just yet as the second platform is in the wrong position, so run past the fuse receptacle towards the Emporia Railstation to proceed. As you cross the entrance, a hasty guard shows up, pockets filled with GOLD.

Go left towards the Fool's Gold vending machine for the VENDING MACHINES journal update. Approach it and tap the Look key to check what's on sale: you can get ammo and large medipacks, but most importantly, a LOCK PICK. You should have 90G in your backpack at the moment, so shell out for one pressing Right+Action and go back to the security office. Enter the side passage to the storeroom and pick apart that cupboard lock to get a SHOTGUN. Hop back over the floating platform to the rail station.

Go downstairs, as all other side paths are currently locked off, and head all the way left to a small gap in the wagon behind the train where you'll find flares. Cross the railroad to the other side and up the stairs to the balcony above. From this vantage point, you can jump to the top of the train and then to the opposite balcony, where a button opens a shortcut. Don't head downstairs, instead go all the way to the end of the balcony where some GOLD lies on the floor and spot a ledge in the wall, so jump over the glass to grab it and shimmy around the corner, then ledge jump backwards to the top of the wagon with crates.

Drop into the warehouse behind it, gunning down a guard. Loot his uzi clips and press the button to open a door back to the station. Still inside the warehouse, climb to the top of the crates to monkey swing to a jump switch, which lowers a trapdoor to the Maintenance Tunnel in this same room. Before going down the hatch, you can do an angled running jump to a dark crawlspace up on the other side of the room for more GOLD. If you want to play safe, it might be a good idea to head back to Fool's Gold and buy a couple of large medipacks, just in case.

Go down the ladder to the Maintenance Tunnel. Past the smoke emitter, watch your step as things will get dicey. As you hop across to the first platform, two maintenance drones show up. Deal with them, and notice the strong fans on the next platforms: you need to quickly hop

across, past the swinging chain, before the wind pushes you into the void below.

When you get to the safe spot with the switch on the left wall, don't push it just yet. Instead, look to the right to spot an opening behind some pipes, that's our next goal. So, push the switch to raise the trapdoor ahead of you, jump to it and quickly position yourself to do a running jump into that opening. Timing is tight, but it's not too difficult. As you pull up, another drone might be zapping you, so deal with it before alerting the worker inside the passage. Climb down the ladder and jump to the platforms linked by the huge chain to find SECRET #1, a treasure which is worth 50 GOLD. Climb back up the ladder and push the button to open the exit door and jump to the platform you'd have otherwise jumped to from the timed trapdoor.

Past the smoke emitter, look left and you'll see a golden skull behind a fence. Pull up to the crawlspace next to the fence to find more GOLD and enter the passage to face another worker, who drops a small medipack upon death. If you follow this passage to the end, you'll find it's barred by a flame emitter tagged with the marker A, which means we need to do something elsewhere first...

Opposite the fence with the skull you'll find another set of platforms with strong gushing fans. Walk to the edge, hop back once and take an additional step backwards to set up a running jump in order to land on the platform and keep your momentum to another long jump towards the ladder in the back — you might have to veer against the wind a bit to grab the edge.

Up the ladder and out of the Maintenance Tunnel, the nearby door opens as a guard and a dog try to stop you. If you examine the note on the stack of crates nearby, you'll see a technician was assigned a job he still hasn't done, so, naturally, it's up to Lara to find the missing fuse, cables and battery. Just as luck would have it, a fuse is just out of reach, on the other side of the window by the ladder...

Climb said ladder and you'll get the SWING POLE MOVES journal update. Shoot the vase for GOLD and do a running jump over the glass railing towards the flagpole and land on the bridge on the other side. Use the ledge indentation in the supporting pillar to shimmy to the other part of the bridge, hop over to the balcony and to the ledge on the opposite wall to shimmy around the corners. As you backflip to the catwalk behind you, a guard and a dog attack. Dispatch them, get the uzi clips and ignore the switch with the Water marker for now. Go through the opening on the other end and shatter the grate.

The platform beneath the huge chain will lower when Lara steps on it — if you feel like it, you can hop backwards in order to stand right on its edge and immediately jump to grab a crawlspace above housing GOLD. Drop to the chained platform and ride it all the way to the bottom. Kill the worker hiding in the alcove at the end of this corridor and take his GOLD, then approach the conveyor belts and save your game.

The pistons will instantly kill you if they hit you, so carefully fight the conveyor belt as you time your strides. The flame emitters at the end will also mean the end of you, so drop to the lower conveyor belt before it's too late. Race against the belt towards valve A to shut off the flames above (also, remember that A marker from before?). Follow the belt around the bend and sprint past the pistons. There's a ledge you can jump to from here with GOLD if you're feeling adventurous. Past the second piston, go up the ladder and backflip to a button and you're back on the upper conveyor belt.

With the flames off, ride past the pistons and jump into the opening. As you run past the gear and out on the other side, a drone zaps you. Jump over the railing to the platform with the gear and across to the other side, then throw the floor lever to shift the platform positions above you. You can reach these platforms by pulling up to the alcove above the wall light in the back. Kill the worker inside the side passage, take his small medipack, and safely crawl past the drill to find valve B.

Drop through the opening to land right in front of a pushable cage. Pull it out of the alcove and push it on a straight line against the railing, then climb onto it. You should spot the next valve in the distance; standing on the cage, grab the crevice on the wall and shimmy to the right until you can ledge jump to valve C. Monkey swing back to the crevice and ledge jump to the cage. Now use the floor lever on the other platform to shift the platforms again and use the cage to reach the topmost one.

Jump to the central hanging platforms, mind the drone, and into the passage there to find yourself on the Fink Factory balcony. Hop over to the terrace below and go right to kill a guard, take his GOLD and just a bit further on you'll finally find the FUSE. As you retrace your steps back to the terrace, you'll get the MULTI-USE ITEMS journal update. Jump over the railing to the islet and to the platform near the huge aquarium glass to a side passage. Shoot the circuit breaker box to reveal a switch and flick it to open a door on the other side of the glass.

Hop back to the islet and do a long running jump to the other side of the pillar in front of the aquarium and over the railings there, towards the pride flag to find GOLD and a keypad. Input that one password we saw much earlier on in the security room (ie. 2837) and walk inside. Up the ladder and over the balconies, kill the guard protecting SECRET #2, another treasure worth 50 GOLD.

Jump to the terrace below and place the fuse to raise a trapdoor, then go around the back through the passage where you found the fuse to have an angle to reach the raised trapdoor. Over the railings and you're back to the railroad square, kill the roaming dog and enter the open door to the left to find a button and go retrieve the FUSE from the slot. Go back to the railroad station.

Lara will remember that one switch with the Water marker we ignored previously, but we'll ignore it just a little bit further as we still need to backtrack for the final secret. Cross the railroad and enter the warehouse to the left, down the maintenance tunnel shaft and cross the floating platforms to the timed trapdoor in the back again. Just beyond that point is the grating with the skull, but now the flame emitter is off so you can go to the end of the passage and claim SECRET #3, that golden skull past the drill adds another 30 GOLD to your pocket. Negotiate that double running jump past the windy fans and climb the ladder back to the station.

Go up the staircase closest to the Fool's Gold vending machine, open the door with the fuse and you're back in that room with the switch to shift the floating platform position. Raise it, then get the FUSE once again and go back to the square in front of the station to plug it in the corner, that way you activate the springboard.

Stand on the springboard and launch to the bridge above, then proceed past the balcony and the crevice to the catwalk in the back. You'll find the switch with the Water marker in the back, and it's for a timed run, so you might want to save before attempting it. Once you've activated the switch, roll and jump off the catwalk to the landing below, near the tree, and quickly hop onto the springboard. Launch to the floating platform and do a running jump to the left towards the aquarium door before it closes.

Inside the aquarium, proceed to read the warning sign on the wall: unless the water temperature is at 23ēC and salt level is 5g, it's deadly toxic, so let's get to it. A bit further into the room, you'll see two rows of switches. For the salinity switches, flick the center and right ones for the desired total; and for the temperature switches, the ones on the left and right. If both individual sums are correct, when you approach the water pits you should see a green sign saying the water is safe.

Find the underwater lever in the column between the double water pit and return to the entrance. Push the button to open the exit door, but you might want to make a quick stop and dive into the nearby water pit for one last drop of GOLD. Jump to the raised floating platform in the center and to the landing below, from where a guard is now shooting at you, then follow this passage West to find that the platforms are now at the same level. As you hop across and approach that switch on the opposite side, however, this preview comes to an end...
