WALKTHROUGH by Lizard Queen

 

Outside the Monastery

 

The level opens with a nice flyby of the mountain surroundings. Reverse roll and head north west. Shoot the two vases near the lantern and collect the FLARES. Move behind the fence onto the grassy outcrop and slide down the slope to stand on the cliff edge directly overlooking the Yak. Jump to the right and onto the edge there near the tree. With the tree on your left, jump to the gravel slope behind it and  jump and grab the swingpole. While swinging, adjust to the leftmost side of the pole, jump with a curve left to grab the partial ladder on the ledge ahead. Head left and pickup the SMALL MEDIPACK. Safety drop to the ground floor and back up the small path.

 

Walk towards the cliff, head left (north) across a small roof and take a running or standing jump to grab the partial ladder. Climb to the lowest point, let go and grab the second part of the ladder. Drop to the ground and immediately run forward to avoid the boulder. Head to the edge of the wooden bridge and either drop or perform a spectacular dive with a couple of twists off the bridge into the water below. Climb out of the water (west) and the ledge ahead.  Head right, take a standing jump to the block east and a running jump east to the cliffside. Head right (north), then left and around through the waterfall.  Turn left (south) and climb the waterfall. Head right, follow the path around, pickup the SHOTGUN AMMO. Head back down the waterfall outside to a new cliff. Head north/west to the end of the path, safety drop to a lower platform and safety drop to the waterfall below. Head west through the rock arch and stand on the meditation mat. Lara will eventually feel stronger and increase meditation level to “Novice”. Head north, take a running jump to a small roof, climb into the alcove left and pickup the DESERT EAGLE AMMO.  Head east and take a running jump back to the meditation mat.

 

Head back through the rock arch and pull up onto a ledge with a small fence just ahead. Take a standing jump (south/east), grab and pull up onto the rock cliff. Turn right (north/west) to the end and take a standing jump west to the small slope, slide a bit and grab the swing pole. Swing to land on the ledge ahead and speak with the Monk. Explore the Monastery (this is fun), opening all the doors and pickup the UZI AMMO on the table. Continue back through corridors jumping over some upside down wooden frames to some higher places where you have to jump, pickup the SMALL MEDIPACK and eventually find your way back outside. Before visiting the Monk, pickup the SHOTGUN AMMO in the flower bowl on the right. Reverse roll and take a standing jump over the fence to a small roof.  Turn to hop back and grab the edge of the roof. Shimmy right as far as you can, then pull up onto a small ledge. Pickup the UZI AMMO. Hop back and grab the ledge, shimmy left and pull up onto the small roof.  Jump over the fence then left back to the Monk for another important conversation.

 

Climb the small north ledge with vases, face south and take a standing jump to grab the rope. (You can shoot the vases but the Monk will scold you). Angle north towards the village and swing to the upper level. You will be confronted with a GILA MONSTER called Dennis. It's his birthday today and he's harmless so DO NOT KILL HIM as the wrath of the TRLE gods will be upon you. Head to the gift shop entrance and pickup the FLARES.  Head north over the pool bridge and open the doors into the Meditation & Guest Rooms.

 

Meditation & Guest Rooms

 

Head forward into the Meditation room and turn right into a small room with two doors. One of them opens to the washroom/dunny/toilet (depending on which country you’re from). Press “T” to listen to Lara’s thoughts and wait there for 20 seconds. Eventually she will relieve herself, gain strength, top up health and increase meditation level to “Journeywoman”. On the table near the toilet is the ARCHEOLOGISTS SCROLL. The scroll contains information about a future puzzle. You can view the scroll by pressing F12. Exit the hallway, head right down the steps onto the Meditation mat with pillows to gain strength, top up health and increase meditation level to “Apprentice”. Then step onto the two burgundy rugs on the ledges. Notice the “OM” sound and objects appearing in the north/east corner near the Buddha image. Drop into the water to step onto the last burgundy rug, arm weapons and shoot the teapot to reveal a GOLD TRAPDOOR KEY. Climb and grab the key, drop back into the water and use the key in the receptacle. Climb the ladder and pull up through the hatch. Pull the wall switch on the left, arm weapons and head through the corridor, avoiding the deadly mist. Shoot the SPIDER and walk to the edge of the opening. Jump straight up to grab the monkey swing, avoid the deadly mist ahead and swing around to drop into the opening at the end. Reverse roll, jump forward to grab the jump switch north and watch a cutscene of a wall panel giving partial access to a monkey swing outside. Turn left (east), pull up onto the slope, backflip and crash through some shattering wood to land in an upper room.  Head into the room and notice the dead explorer the Monk spoke about. Hit ESC to release the cutscene message, crawl and pickup the OLD PARCHMENT from under the rock outcrop. Exit south, turn left and climb west to a higher ledge. Head left (north), run over the collapsing tile, shoot the vases in the west alcove and pickup the SHOTGUN AMMO.

 

Head back south over the pit to the opening and SAVE your game. Take a running jump to the horizontal swing pole ahead and swing to the next one. While swinging, use the left arrow to swing to the leftmost part of the pole, then jump with a hard curve left to land on a high upper platform. Angle right (south/east) and take a standing jump to grab the jump switch on the spire which raises a block for use in a later timed run. Immediately jump back to land on a safe roof then jump to a lower roof with a flower bowl to pickup the DESERT EAGLE. Face south and safety drop to the ground to return to the village. Head across the pool bridge, left to the doors at the end and enter the Animal Husbandry area.

 

Animal Husbandry

 

Put your mask on because it’s going to get smelly in here. Head into the building and speak to Barry. Head through the barn area avoiding the “deadly mist” and push the floor lever at the top of the small staircase at the back of the room. Watch the cutscene of the second wall panel receding to expose the remainder of the outdoor monkey swing.  Head down the stairs and notice boxes in the stalls. Shoot them in the order of the number of grain baskets in each. Finally shoot the boxes in the middle of the room and pickup the HIDDEN LARGE MEDIPACK as reward. Exit towards the animals and get ready for a smelly gauntlet of flames. Crawl under the first set, climb the west ladder, shimmy past the second, head through the south/east stall and exit back to the village.

 

Outside Village

 

Head over the pool bridge, up the stairs on the right and jump to grab the monkey swing south. Swing around the building, face the window, let go and grab the window ledge. Pull into the window, shoot the wooden shutters and enter the room. Climb the ladder to the upper room. Shoot the window, exit onto the roof and shoot the wooden shutters in the window to the left. Jump through the window into the next room. Pull the wall switch in the south/west corner to open the door in this room. Look carefully at the shrubbery in the next room for a very well concealed floor switch (south/west). Push the floor switch to open a hatch in the previous room. Exit this room back to the window. SAVE your game (in case you fall), angle to face south/east and take a running jump with grab out the window to the small roof and back to the previous room. Drop through the hatch in the north/east corner into the room below. Pull the west wall switch and watch a cutscene of a roof hatch opening in a previous room. Climb the ladder (north) and backflip to the upper room. Exit via the window, left over the small roof and jump through the window back to the previous room. Face south towards the window, look up for a well concealed jump switch in the shrubbery above and pull it to lower the ladder in the roof hatch. Climb the ladder, pull up and slide down to a small roof. Jump east to the bridge to the Upper Outside Village.

 

Upper Outside Village

 

Head north, push the wall button and watch a cutscene of the ominous Gauntlet activating a treacherous “shortcut” path. In the meantime, head to the empty fountain in the north/east corner, arm weapons and jump to shoot the boulder/grate above releasing water into the fountain. Pickup the UZI AMMO in the fountain.  Head back to the bridge and take a running jump south over the gap to the other side. Listen to the Monk’s speech and continue south. Resist the temptation to use the zipline on the left (used for later on). Instead jump to the ledge on the right and then to the partial bridge. Pull the chain and watch a cutscene of a rope lowering below the suspended crate.  Head to the end of the crate, hop back, safety grab the edge and climb down the crate. Shift to the right, then one shift left to centre at the rope. Let go and grab the rope. Shift down to the bottom of the rope, swing and grab the monkey swing in the mountain cliff.  Swing left (south) then face west, let go and grab the piece of wood in the cliff. Shimmy left and climb the ladder as a boulder falls from above. Pull up into the mountain ledge. Face south, arm weapons and take a running jump to the ledge ahead. Face west and take a standing jump to a collapsible tile between rocks and quickly another standing jump to the mountain ledge ahead.

 

Cave of Past-Future

 

Head into the cave and turn left. Reverse roll, backflip off the waterfall and grab a hidden ladder. Climb up, backflip to the ledge and pickup the DESERT EAGLE AMMO on the right. Drop back down into the cave. Pickup a TORCH and light it in the Eternal Fire. NOTE: SAVE often as you must keep hold of your flame throughout the entire cave expedition where there are collapsible tiles throughout. If you lose your torch accidentally, you will have to reload to a previous savegame with torch in hand, hence the SAVE often warning. Head to the north/east corner of the cave, run over some collapsible tiles and curve to a safe ledge ahead. Take a standing jump south and continue east through the cave. Slide down a slope, run over collapsing tiles and turn right to a safe ledge. At the opening, take a standing jump north/west to a pillar in the middle of the cavern.  Your torch goes out for good this time and a door closes behind you so you can’t go back to light it. We will need to find another fire source. Face west and jump down to the ledge below where you see another fire burning. Approach the flame and it will go out. Head further down this corridor turning left and notice the monkey. Approach the monkey and quickly grab the SMALL MEDIPACK when it moves out of the way and immediately jump to the sides to avoid the train.. Now head southwest to the waterfalls and if you no longer have your torch pick up another one near the shore there. Jump onto the tree trunk next to the water (east) and then hop onto the stone wall behind it. Another small jump in between the waterfalls and then again onto the platform with the flame. Light the torch and head back to where the medipack was. With your newly lit torch in hand, enter into the tunnel. You will find yourself back in the previous room with the column in the middle of it. Return to the top of the column with a standing jump west and a running jump north. Face south/west and take a standing jump to the cliff ledge. Light the brazier on the wall and the door will lower. Follow the corridor south, wait for the animation to change to a wooden gate and light the shrub to break through the gate. Head north/west through more collapsing tiles to a safe ledge at the end to another wooden fence.  Light the shrub and continue north then right (west) over more collapsing tiles and stop over a safe tile. Take a standing jump to a safe ledge south/east. Face west, take a running jump over the gap and slope to a safe spot past the slope. Slide down another slope (west), run over the collapsing tile with a slight curve right to a safe ledge on the right. Walk forward, take a standing jump to the ledge south/west and another standing jump to the safe ledge ahead.

 

Mini Side Quest for the SHOTGUN + AMMO in the Cave of Past-Future

Light the wall sconce and look through the grate to see a flashing light displaying some special goodies for pickup. Heading back through the cave again you can take the torch to save on flares, face north and take a running jump to the ledge ahead. Take another running jump to the top of the slope ahead, then slide down and jump to a safe ledge. Angle to face north/west and take a standing jump with curve left to land on a safe ledge. Angle south/east and take a standing jump + curve left to a safe ledge. Angle south/west then standing jump to a safe ledge. Hug the right wall until you reach the cavern. Face north/east and standing jump to the central pillar.  Face south/east and take a standing or running jump to the ledge. Head forward and take a running jump south to a safe ledge. Face west and take a running jump over the slope to a safe ledge. Walk to the end and take a standing jump north to a safe ledge. Face west and take a running jump to the ledge ahead and a standing jump on the right (south). Follow around and back to the Cave entrance. Drop the torch near the Eternal Flame and pickup the well earned SHOTGUN & SHOTGUN AMMO. Listen to the sound of a gate opening near the wall sconce giving access to the Cave exit. Pickup the torch and jump through the gate (west). NOTE: Yes, there is a very tricky “expert shortcut” but you’ll have to figure it out for yourself if you want to go that route. :D

 

With torch in hand, jump the few blocks west to the ledge outside the mountain. Face north to the tree and run off to land in the area below. Light the wall sconce to open the hatch below. Leave the torch by the wall sconce and drop into the water. Swim through and surface. Arm weapons and shoot the boxes to release grain into the water. Pull the wall switch to open the door. Drop back into the water which is now “walkable” and get the torch. Walk back through the grain-filled water with the torch and exit through the door. Head north, drop to a lower partial bridge and take a running jump over the gap. Head north to the gap in the bridge and run off to a safe roof below. Face south and jump over the fence, off the roof to the furnace below. Light the furnace and watch the cutscene of the door opening to the Upper Monastery.

 

Upper Monastery & Riverend Garden

 

Take the torch with you, turn to face north/west and take a running jump into the Gauntlet “shortcut”.  Make your way to the end, then turn your back to the spikes and when you hear the sound, backflip then quickly forward jump to the upper Gauntlet level. Run or roll through the circular slicer blade and take a standing jump over the gap to the platform ahead while avoiding the numerous blades. Take a final running jump to the bridge ahead. Turn left (south) then enter the north/east Glass door into the Upper Monastery. Speak to the Monk for clues to the 4 Prayer Wheels. With torch in hand, head east and take a running jump over the river. Take a standing jump up the waterfall and light the flower bowl in the wall to the right. Toss the torch down and pickup the UZI AMMO & SMALL MEDIPACK.  Head right and shoot the grate in the wall. Slide down the slope and listen carefully as you won’t be able to see anything. You will hear Lara make a jump sound followed shortly by a grab sound. If you mimic these actions at the same time as you hear them you will activate a switch and reveal the HIDDEN LARGE MEDIPACK. Drop back down, grab the torch, head north and pickup the SHOTGUN AMMO in the flower bowl on the wall.  Head to the north/west corner of the garden, push the wall button to open the gates on the left. Grab the torch and enter the Pit of Doom.

 

Pit of Doom

 

Listen to the Monk’s speech. With the torch in hand, head west and ignite the rope to the right of the Pit of Doom door to release a boulder. Drop the torch here (for use later on), reverse roll, back to the table and pickup the SHOTGUN, SMALL MEDIPACK & SHOTGUN AMMO. Head to the flower bowl to the left of the door and pickup more SHOTGUN AMMO.  Head forward (east) and backflip off the slope to grab the grated upper floor (west). Pull up, head right, take a running jump to the ledge in the corner and pickup the SHOTGUN AMMO. Drop back down, arm the shotgun and enter the door to the Pit of Doom. Shoot the two SNOW LEOPARDS careful not to shoot anything else unless you want a real challenge, then go for it and take out the many various enemies that follow. Walk to the middle of the platform where you are trapped within a metal cage to be judged. Depending on how good or bad you’ve been, (we’ve tried to be fairly good so far) facing north keep to the right side of the cage. If Lara has been a bad girl, a boulder will fall to the left of the cage and crash into one of the vases below.  Once judgement is done and if a boulder fell, arm pistols and shoot the GILA MONSTER on the lower level. Safety drop to the lower level and shoot the two large red & gold vases in the north/west corner of the platform which may or may not contain PIT KEY 1 & 2 (but it’s a good start as these keys appear randomly inside the various vases). Take out the GILA MONSTER & VULTURE or whatever other enemy appears depending on the vase you have to shoot. Pit Key 1 goes in south receptacle. Pit Key 2 goes in the north receptacle.  Head to the fire bowl in the south/west corner, face mostly west and pickup some SHOTGUN AMMO

 

Head west through the newly opened door and pull the chain lever to open the gate. Pickup the SMALL MEDIPACK and climb out south. Pickup the PRAYER WHEEL and listen to the Monk’s speech. Reverse, jump over the gap, climb the ladder and head to the meditation perch. Lara will feel stronger now, increase health a bit (if you’ve lost any) and increase meditation level to “Master”. Since the meditation perch is available for an hour or so, now is a good time to let Lara meditate for a minute longer (don’t touch any keys while doing this) then watch some lovely cutscenes and relaxing music for a minute longer. Lara will feel stronger now, increase health a bit and increase meditation level to “Grand Master”. This sequence can be done at any time during the game but health and meditation level will only increase the first time it’s done. To exit out of the cutscenes, press the “LOOK” key. Before leaving, look east to see water gushing and listen to hear the sound. Look up to see the water and a grate blocking more water from flowing freely. This grate will have to be shot from a distance later on. Now safety drop down east to the platform below and pickup the UZI AMMO in the fruit bowl. Jump over the balustrade back to the pit and exit west as the gate opens again.

 

Climb out and up the hill to grab the rope. Angle left to face the white building and aim for the spot where the two buildings meet with Barry on the left. Swing too soon and you land in a pit of spikes so swing far to land on a platform and exit west to a small roof. Face south to the horizontal swing pole, take a step back from the edge and a standing jump to grab the pole. Swing to the other side, climb east and use the monkey swing around to the platform near the Gauntlet. When the spikes recede, take a running jump + curve right onto the Gauntlet. If you land on the lower level, backflip to the spikes when they recede and a forward jump to the upper level. NOTE: If you wish, you can press F7 to release the fixed camera but if your frame rate is very low, the fixed camera helps speed this up. Run or roll through the circular blade, run past the 4 point blades and take a running jump over the gap and another running jump to the bridge where the fixed camera stops. Head left (south) around through the Upper Monastery Glass door back to the Riverend Garden.

 

Royally Red Room

 

Climb the pillar in the south part of garden and shoot out the window (south). Take a running jump + CTRL to land in the window. Drop down and head up the stairs. Shoot the vases on the ledges to the right and left and kill the SPIDER within. Head to the north wall with the 4 hole switches. This puzzle is timed. Each switch has a different ‘clicking’ timer that activates a spike trap in front of the puzzle holes. All holes must be activated in the following order before the timer runs out: Far Left, Middle Right, Middle Left, Far Right. The door behind will open. Face east and jump up and grab the crack in the east wall. Shimmy left and pull up into a secret room. Pickup the Dance Hall Key for use at the disco corridor door later on. Climb south/west and drop back into the room below. Head up the south/east stairs and pickup the SMALL MEDIPACK on the credenza to the right. Listen to the Monk and enter the room ahead. Notice a pushable stone statue on the runway. NOTE: I found this next step very important for a smooth “trip”. First go to the BACK of the statue and pull it once. The Monk will scold you to push, not pull. Then return to the front and push the statue without stopping no matter what happens. At the end, listen to the Monk’s speech and pickup the PRAYER WHEEL. The doors open to reveal a snowmobile for a race with Bobby the Goat.  Before mounting the snowmobile, head to the middle of the room and jump up the slope at the snow cave where the Yeti met his demise with the boulder. Jump to a small ledge on the right and pickup the SHOTGUN AMMO. Slide down the slopes, head right and mount the snowmobile. After completing the race, dismount, exit the room, head up the ramp west and climb the ledge north to the window and drop back into the Riverend Garden. Face south and crawl into an alcove partially boarded up with wood slats. Pickup the SMALL MEDIPACK and crawl back out to exit.

 

Gal-Go-Run

 

Head to the north/east corner of the garden. Climb the ladder to the top, then shimmy right. Let go, slide off the slope and jump over the gap to the other side. Jump up to grab the rock and pull up. Jump straight up a few times until you land on the ledge. Lara’s attention is focused on the opening in the opposite west wall (for later on). Continue east instead to the Gal-Go-Run entrance. Listen to the Monk’s speech then shoot the box on the ground. Pickup the SMALL MEDIPACK & UZI AMMO.  Head to the opening in the cave where you see a bell which is the beginning of a timed run.

 

NOTE: The higher the meditation level obtained before getting here, the more time you will have to complete the timed run. If you’ve followed the walkthrough so far, you will have achieved Grand Master status giving you maximum time (and can also attempt a longer but less frantic way through the timed run, see instructions further below). Also the ability to save is disabled during the timed run.

REGULAR TIMED RUN: Keep to the left and before starting your slide, arm pistols jump up to shoot the 1st bell to start the clock and SAVE (this is the only time you will have to save during the timed run). Now slide down the slope, jump and shoot the 2nd bell. Jump with a curve left to land on the cliffside. Jump up one level, turn right and jump up to shoot the 3rd bell across the waterfall. Drop down and slide to another part of the cliffside and shoot the 4th bell. Drop down, slide then jump to the slope in the middle of the river, jump off and shoot the 5th bell. Slide and shoot the 6th bell. Slide then jump to the slope on the left, backflip and shoot the 7th bell. Continue sliding while shooting the 8th & 9th bells. Holster pistols, jump left to get to the left most part of the slide and jump to grab the ladder at the small building ahead. Climb up and run through the door before it closes.

 

LESS FRANTIC TIMED RUN: Keep to the left and before starting your slide, arm pistols jump up to shoot the 1st bell to start the clock and SAVE. Now slide down the slope, jump and shoot the 2nd bell. Jump with a curve left to land on the cliffside. Jump up one level, turn right and jump up to shoot the 3rd bell across the waterfall. Drop down and slide to another part of the cliffside and shoot the 4th bell. Run forward to the very end of the cliff, sideflip onto the waterfall and slide to land on a safe ledge. Drop down to another safe ledge and shoot the 5th bell. Slide and shoot the 6th bell. Holster pistols, keep to the left and land on a bunch of boulders. Turn to face right, run forward, slide for a bit then jump to grab the ladder across the waterfall. Turn left and climb the next ladder. Arm pistols, jump straight up and shoot the 7th bell.  Turn right, run forward and slide to land on another safe ledge.  Turn left and shoot the 8th bell.  Run forward, drop down to a safe ledge below and shoot the 9th bell. Holster pistols, run forward onto the waterfall, jump left to get to the left most part of the slide and jump to grab the ladder at the small building ahead. Climb up and run through the door before it closes.

 

Pickup the SMALL MEDIPACK on the table and the PRAYER WHEEL in a small room to the right. Climb the wood stove, turn around, jump up and climb up and encounter Pegasus, the Flying Horse. Pickup the RIDING HAT and approach the side of the horse. Mount by using the Riding Hat and fly into the upper stratosphere to a cloud platform. Dismount (ALT+ARROW KEY) and drop into the water back to the Village.  Climb out of the water and return to the Gift Shop. Pickup the UZIS & LASERSIGHT. Reverse roll, head up the stairs where the furnace is and jump into the Gauntlet. Run and jump over the horizontal blade. Backflip to the ledge with the spikes and immediately forward jump to the upper level. Roll through the circular blade trap and take a running jump over the gap. Quickly take another running jump to the bridge before the ball spike trap triggers.  Shoot the VULTURE (if it appears for you), turn right and take a running jump north over the gap in the bridge to the fountain.

 

Riverend Garden, Upper Monastery & Kitchen

 

Meet the Monk, listen to his speech and pickup the CROWBAR. Head back to the bridge, take a running jump south over the gap and go through the Glass Door. Straight ahead climb the stairs beside the small fountain, head right and pickup the UZI AMMO in the flower bowl on the right. Enter the Kitchen and have a DELICIOUS SANDWICH for lunch (or maybe save it for later, your choice). Shoot the vase on the stove exposing the flame. Pickup the torch on the stove and light it on the flame. Take the torch, return across the bridge to the fountain where the Monk is and light the ignitable shrub to the right of the fountain. Jump forward and grab the jumpswitch to activate a platform for the Gauntlet. NOTE: It is actually possible to use this jumpswitch without burning the shrubs but we are following the Monk’s clues for tasks throughout this walkthrough. Return to the bridge, take a running jump over the gap and head through the Glass Door. Drop the torch and head left to the garden. Climb the white pillar, grab the rope and swing south/west into the upper level for access to the Maze of the Damned.

 

Maze of the Damned

 

Before climbing the steps, take respite at the Meditation mat to the left to gain strength, top up health and achieve the meditation level of “Monk”. Climb the first set of stairs, turn right and pickup an invisible HIDDEN LARGE MEDIPACK on the credenza. Climb the 2nd set of stairs, turn right and pickup the FLARES in the flower bowl. Use the crowbar to open the golden gate. Open the golden door on the right and notice it is blocked by a Buddha stone. Use the meditation mat behind you to gain strength, top up health and graduate to “Sage” meditation level. Watch the Buddha stone disappear giving way to the entrance and head through the door.

 

Listen to the Monk’s speech, climb the stairs and drop onto the trap door. Face north and quickly run forward to avoid a SWARM of RATS (triggered if you wait too long).  Land then hop backwards and slide. Land then run forward and slide. Land then hop backward and slide to land in a crypt of sorts. Read the note from the poor soul on the right which is also a clue to a timed run puzzle in the outside world. Head through the window in the west wall and continue sliding. Notice a cutscene of a boulder coming out of a hatch somewhere above. Turn left (west), crawl under the wood fencing and slide to an area with water flowing. Hear the boulder bouncing and smashing something. Hop backwards down the only slope accessible (east) and everything turns to water.  Swim through the north shaft down and pickup the DESERT EAGLE. Reverse roll, swim up and forward through the south shaft around the right wall towards another light streaming through the ceiling. Swim up into the light, then down the north shaft with the blue light and the water disappears landing you in a dark candle lit room with the Monk. Listen to the Monk’s speech and light a flare. Take a standing jump to the invisible platform and pickup the 4th PRAYER WHEEL. The Monk will then transport Lara to the Village, in the pool unfortunately.

 

Riverend Garden/Upper Monastery & Kitchen

 

Climb out and head back to the Gift Shop. Pickup the SMALL MEDIPACK, reverse roll and head up the stairs towards the furnace to check out the new lift to the upper level. Ride the lift still careful of the slicer blades on the right and take a running jump to the bridge. Head south to the Upper Monastery through the Glass door and see the Monk stuck part way in the ground. Listen to his predicament, then exit out the Glass door and left to the gap in the wooden bridge. Drop down north to a small roof, through the window left and pull the Monk down out of the floor. Pickup COLD FRIES as your reward for the rescue. Exit via the window, slide down the roof and return to the Gauntlet lift. Ride up to return to the bridge. Return through the Glass door to the receptacles for the Prayer Wheels.

 

Listen to the Monk’s speech and pickup the MATHEMATICALLY PERFECT WATER CARRIER on the table. Exit via the Glass door and left to the edge of the wooden bridge. Drop down north to the small roof below and slide down to the furnace. Go down the stairs and to the shallow pool to fill the waterskin. Return to the furnace and douse the flame with the WATERSKIN CARRYING A PERFECT AMOUNT OF WATER. The door blocking the last Prayer Wheel receptacle closes. Return to the Gauntlet lift, back to the bridge, south to visit the now closed Glass door and listen to the Monk’s speech. Watch as the Monk teleports Lara (eventually) to an upper ledge above the garden.

 

Visit the Meditation mat to achieve the highest meditation level of “Arahat” and a top up of health. Face north/east and shoot the boxes. Take a running jump to the platform and pickup the DESERT EAGLE AMMO. Jump back to the previous platform and climb down the ladder. Shoot the boxes and the multiple vases within and pickup the SMALL MEDIPACK. Shoot the grate in the wall and push (not pull) the pedestal outside allowing the lift inside to function. Ride the lift down into the kitchen. Head back outside and pick up the torch where you dropped it near the Glass door. Head back to the kitchen and take the torch up the lift to the Lookout.

 

Light the rope and watch a suspended rock smash the Upper Monastery Glass partition giving access and releasing a coin to use near the Gift Shop later on. Drop the torch, combine the Desert Eagle + lasersight, turn to face north/west and onto the platform. Shoot out the grate with the spouting water unlocking a portal door above the grate. Pickup the torch again and use the lift back down to the Kitchen. Drop the torch in the Kitchen. Exit down the stairs and place the four (4) Prayer Wheels in their respective receptacles. Watch a nice cutscene of the box opening and pickup the OLD TOMB ARTIFACT inside the box.  Exit north, pickup the GOLD COIN you released previously and head back to the gap in the wooden bridge and take a running jump south to the other side.

 

Mini Quest with Dance Hall Key

Continue south just outside the Upper Monastery Glass Door where there is a key lock to the Disco. Use the Dance Hall Key, enter the hallway and pickup the DESERT EAGLE & DESERT EAGLE AMMO on the credenza. Reverse roll and exit. Now use the zipline for a quicker way back to the Lower Village and land inside the Gift Shop. Pickup the CROSSBOW and jump back over the door to exit.

 

Mini Quest with the Gold Coin

Use the coin in the receptacle next to the Gift Shop door and pickup the GUEST KEY. Enter the Meditation and Guest entrance, turn right and use the key. Enter the room, pickup the GRENADE GUN on the credenza and take a rest on the bed. If you have already attained 8/8 meditation level, then just press the LOOK key to exit the cutscene. If you have not attained 8/8 level yet, wait 1 minute for the entire cutscene to finish and Lara will feel stronger and attain an additional Meditation level. Exit the guest room, back out to the Lower Village.

 

Mini Quest for Hidden Large Medipack

Just outside the Gift Shop is a ledge with candles. Climb the ledge and face southeast. Jump to the spot right next to where the coloured flags touch the floor (you should hear a faint creak) and face/turn right (northeast). Take a running jump over the shallow pool to the platform where the balloons and card are. Take a standing jump to the lift, then another standing jump to the stairs. A flash of light should occur if you’ve done it right so climb the stairs and pickup the HIDDEN LARGE MEDIPACK that has now appeared on the credenza. Reverse and head back down the stairs.

 

Mini Quest for Hidden Large Medipack

Behind the waterfall near the spot where the monk is seen sitting in the title screen is a small cell with a skeleton and a note. If you bring a torch up from the old tomb and light the sconce on the post here a HIDDEN LARGE MEDIPACK will be revealed from underneath the rock.

 

Face north and safety drop down the waterfall. Hop back a few and safety drop again to the lower waterfall. Face south/east and drop into the water, swim south into a small alcove and pickup the UZI AMMO. Reverse roll and exit back to the waterfall. Climb down a few stairs, head south/east across the waterfall and climb down the ladder to the ground floor of the Old Tomb where the Monk is waiting.

 

Old Tomb

 

Start off with a Mini Scavenger Hunt of the area:

1)      Shoot the two vases in the north/west corner, shoot the SPIDER and pickup the FLARES.

2)      Shoot the well concealed vase in the west wall to the left of the Dancing Red Spirit painting and pickup the FLARES.

3)      Shoot the two vases to the left of the table in the east wall behind the Monk and pickup the FLARES.

4)      Head towards the table in the east wall and pickup the MYSTERIOUS ARTIFACT.

 

Visit the Monk in the south/east corner and listen to his instructions. Place the Old Tomb Artifact on the side of a rectangular block in the north/west corner. Head south to the Lion spouting sand and pickup the OLD TOMB BOOK. Return to the Monk and listen to his instructions. Head north and stand in the shallow water between the two Lion statues. Take 8 steps north. Take 1 jump forward (north). Angle 45 degrees left (north/east). Walk 10 steps towards the Sovereign Guard’s head. Face west and take about 8 steps until you hear the Monk speak. Face south and jump 4 times to the purplish coloured water. Sideflip left once. Head south through the shallow water until reaching the fine mist and hear the Monk speak. Turn left, climb west out of the pool and head north onto the rectangular block with reddish coloured brush. Turn to face south, take a standing jump onto the small protruding roof and stand under the lantern south. Listen to the Monk’s clues and jump up to grab the monkey swing above. Swing to the Dancing Red Spirit painting and drop down. Face east and jump 3 times then 6 steps forward. Turn 90 degrees to the right (north) and crawl for 10 steps. Face west and reach into the mouth of the Stone Guard raising the Dais on the north/west rectangular block.

 

Head north between the two Lion statues and face east. Enter the first door on the left and notice Lara looking at a torch on the floor. Crawl through the fence and pickup the torch. Exit and notice a mild glow and black smoke from the room across the way (west). Enter the room and light the torch on the invisible flame from the past. Exit the room, head north and light the two fire bowls. Exit south and go see Monk in the south/east corner for more instructions. Head back to the rectangular block in the north/west corner and jump up. Light the reddish brush to clear the way of the Dias. Drop the torch in a safe place where you can retrieve it easily (I left it on the Dais block). Head to the middle of the room and notice the suspended crate lift with a pushable lion statue. Jump into the lift, face east and push the statue into the water where it will sink into oblivion.

 

Head south and take a standing jump to the sloped ramp. Turn left (west) and jump to grab the ladder. Climb to the top and angle to face north/east. Take a running jump into the hole in the wooden frame next to where the lamp is on the post. Enter the Lift Controls room. Pull the chain lever to activate the lift. Exit the control room and use the lift to return to ground level. Pickup your torch and jump back into the lift. Jump to the upper ledge and light the reddish brush to clear the way to the Dias. Drop the torch and use the Mysterious Artifact on the Dias. Pickup the torch and ride the lift down to ground level.

 

Leave the torch in a safe place (I left it on the Dais block).  While on the Dais block, face north and do a running or standing jump to the wood bridge and north onto the small roof towards the swing pole. Face east, take a running jump and grab the horizontal swing pole to swing to the other side. Crawl through the small window and go to the invisible chain between the wooden fence near the fire. Wait about 5 seconds and you will hear a chain sound and can notice a light and puffs of smoke on the broken chain at the other end of the room.  You need to pull the chain in sync with the ghost. Count about 10 seconds and pull the chain exactly when you see the light come on or "ghost appear" near the other chain. If you are in sync, the flame will ignite and another window will open on the opposite roof.

 

Exit and return via the swing pole to the other window in the opposite roof (west). Crawl through the window on the left, follow patterns on the floor. Stand up and grab the monkey swing and follow patterns in the ceiling until you drop into the pit and pickup ORNATE BUDDHA KEY. Exit the room via one of the windows and drop to ground level. Head east and use the key in the east wall, lowering a fire bowl low enough to light. Pickup the torch (which I left on the Dais block) and jump north to the wooden bridge. Light the bowl at the end of the bridge and watch a cutscene of the Buddha statue rising in the middle and a door opening in the sandy cave area south. Return to the Dais block and drop the torch in this safe dry place.

 

Head to the Buddha Statue in the middle of the tomb and rotate the statue twice to face south and watch a cutscene of another door opening in the sandy cave area south. NOTE: Stay away from the Monk, otherwise he will teleport Lara too soon. Head south, approach the open door on the left, arm weapons and shoot the two SPIDERS emerging from the door. Crawl through the door around the corridor on the right. Climb into the alcove on the right (north) and be scared “****less” at the Red Devil Spawn creature. Drop back down and continue through the corridor as the second door opens. Immediately arm weapons and shoot another SPIDER while exiting. Reverse and return back into the door you just exited, follow the corridor left and climb into the same alcove on the left. Now see that the Red Devil Spawn creature has turned into a floating Blue Buddha statue making the third door outside now safe to enter. Exit the alcove and left through the corridor back outside. Enter the third door (rightmost door facing south) and reach into the hole in the wall at the end. Watch a cutscene of the fire bowl being lit in front of the Buddha statue. Exit the room and return to the Buddha statue.

 

Rotate the Buddha to face west. Head through the open door in the west wall and to the candles to the right. Face north and crawl across the room while “imaginary spiders” bounce around you. Continue crawling until reaching the hole in the wall. Reach in and watch a cutscene of another fire bowl being lit at the Buddha statue.

 

Return to the Buddha statue and rotate the statue to face east. Head to the east wall and kick in the cracked stone hidden behind some brush. Head to the end and crawl through the opening on the left. Shoot the vases and pickup FLARES. Face east, go through the wood opening and quickly jump up to grab the monkey swing before the floor collapses below. Swing to the end and drop just before the hole in the wall. Reach inside and watch a cutscene of another fire bowl being lit at the Buddha statue. Reverse roll and jump up to grab the monkey swing above as a swarm of rats spew from the hole in the wall. Swing about 5 times and wait for the rats to fall into the pit below then swing to the end, let go and grab the edge of the pit. Pull up and exit the alcove. Crawl north and exit back outside.

 

Turn the Buddha statue to face north and watch a cutscene of the final fire bowl being lit. Pickup the MALLET OF THE BUDDHA for use later on.  Approach the Monk to teleport (eventually) to a small roof back in the Village.

 

Upper Outside Village

 

Drop into the alcove ahead and crawl east through the corridor. Along the way, shoot the vase for some SHOTGUN AMMO. Continue east and drop into an underground cave. Shoot the two vases in the south/west corner. Shoot the SPIDER and pickup the FLARES.  Push the floor lever, opening a hatch in the water immediately behind you releasing a swarm of RATS. Jump backwards into the water and let the rats fall to the bottom of the shaft. Dive down, pull the underwater lever and surface out of the water to watch portal doors rising in the room. Head to the north wall and climb the ladder west. Jump to the small triangle ledge east and jump to grab the jumpswitch west. Climb the west ladder again to exit back to the entrance of the Pit of Doom.

 

If you followed this walkthrough, you can now pickup the already lit torch you left here before. If not, head back to the Riverend Garden and pickup one of the torches on the ground near a tree close by. Reverse roll and return through the entrance to the Pit of Doom and head right. Drop into the hole in the ground to land back in the cave. Light the torch in the fire on the east sconce (careful not to fall into the hatch and accidentally lose your torch). Reverse and jump across the water to light the sconce west under the mini Sun Portal replica. Watch a cutscene of the real Sun Portal rising outside. Leave the torch, climb the west ladder and exit back to the Riverend Garden.

 

The One and Only Secret

NOTE: You can only attempt this if you’ve achieved “Arahat” meditation level. Exit the Riverend Garden via the Glass door, head south and climb the ladder between the gap in the wooden bridge right beside the Disco in the Upper Monastery area. Lara becomes “semi-transparent”. Reverse roll to face out (west) and take a running jump “leap of faith” to land on a rotating platform.  Look up and take a running jump north/west to land on an even higher platform. Continue up platforms north/east and south/east and take a running jump and grab the ladder on the rock face. Pull up and walk to the end of the room where the trap door opens and Lara falls safely into an eerily quiet office/computer room. Enjoy the sound of the purring cat then pickup the Himalayan Salt Crystal to reveal a secret switch. Push the switch to activate God Mode and have some fun with the F2 key.  Press the F1 key to return to normal mode preferably somewhere near the Upper Outside Village.

 

Mini Side Quest for Grenade Gun Ammo & Elusive Large Medipack

Return to the Gal-Go-Run ladder in the Riverend Garden and climb as far as you can. Shimmy right then slide off the slope and jump to the other end. Climb the block and turn around. Take a standing jump over the gap to grab the edge. Climb up to an outside ledge overlooking the Riverend Garden. Head right (south) use the first swing pole, swing to the rightmost side then jump and grab the ladder. Climb and pull up. Wait for a boulder to fall then climb the white rock.  Angle to face south/west and see a grate in the wall. Take a running jump towards the grate to a safe spot on the cliff. Climb forward and jump up to grab the ladder above to the top. Head west and pickup the elusive HIDDEN LARGE MEDIPACK (that could be seen but not reached at the very beginning of the level), reverse roll and return back to the slope. Jump north/east over the slope and slide back to the horizontal pole swing platform. Face west and slide jump to the second pole, swing and jump to the slope, slide and jump with a curve left to grab the third pole. Swing and jump to grab the ladder ahead. Pull up and jump left to the platform. Jump to the next ledge and walk to the end. Jump to the ledge ahead and head to the end. Face east and take a running jump out over the red roof below and slide to a grassy area. Climb the block at the end and pickup the GRENADE GUN AMMO. Backflip over the slope, slide, grab the edge and safety drop back to the Riverend Garden.

 

Mini Side Quest for a Bombastic Monastic Outfit Change

NOTE: This task is not “saveable” so SAVE your game now as you will need to reload after completing this task. If you have done the Secret, then you can use God Mode to jump/fly your way here. If not, then go to the Gal-Go-Run ladder in the Riverend Garden and climb as far as you can. Shimmy right then slide off the slope and jump to the other end. Climb the block and turn around. Take a standing jump over the gap to grab the edge. Climb up to an outside ledge overlooking the Riverend Garden. Head right (south) use the first swing pole, swing to the rightmost side then jump and grab the ladder. Climb and pull up. The boulder should already have fallen but if not, then wait for it then climb the white rock. Angle to face north/east and take a standing jump to the waterfall. Grab the edge of the slope, shimmy left then pull up, jump, twist and grab the opposite ledge. Pull up, take a standing jump to the right and another standing jump over boulders into the cave on the left. Sprint through the seemingly neverending corridors (took me about 12 corridors) until you can enter a lovely hidden garden. Meditate on the mat to obtain the Bombastic Monastic Outfit Change. If you have done the Secret, you can F2 out and try it out for a bit. When you’re done, return to a previous save game to continue this lovely adventure.

 

The Lookout

 

Return to the Kitchen (up the stairs just outside the Riverend Garden entrance) and use the lift to the top and exit to the Lookout. Climb the block with the candles and read the text about the advantages of achieving “Sage” Meditation level.

 

WITH SAGE LEVEL: If you have achieved Sage or higher, you can teleport through the timed run instead of attempting it manually. Press the F2 key to be teleported to the first timed platform. Press the F2 key again to be teleported to the second timed platform. Press the F2 key again to be teleported to the third timed platform.

 

WITHOUT SAGE LEVEL: If you have not achieved Sage or higher or wish to attempt the timed run manually, step onto the first timed platform to start the timed run. Run and use the zipline to the lower floor. Run to the second timed platform to the left and run off to land on the wooden bridge below. Jump into the Gauntlet and run to the end. Jump right to the raised block and up to the third timed platform before the timer runs out.

 

Watch a cutscene of the three portals open and the Moon slowly approaching the Sun. Slide or safety drop down to the entrance to the Monastery and wait patiently by the Gong which is still inaccessible. Eventually the Moon will finally eclipse the Sun, turn the sky fuchsia and unlock the Gong. Use the Mallet of the Buddha on the Gong and watch a cutscene of all the Dais’s becoming active with electricity igniting the Third Eye of the Buddha Statue and opening the door in the Old Tomb. The Monk enters the door as all hell breaks loose in the Village.

 

Old Tomb (revisited)

 

 Make your way back down to the Old Tomb. Use the Shotgun or some other powerful weapon to extinguish mutant monks so that the real Monk can read the inscriptions in peace (or let the Monk take out a few of the stragglers). Listen to the Monk’s speech and watch as the Flying Horse reappears once again. Exit through the doors and mount the horse. Watch another cutscene showing the sky outside and an EVIL BEING FROM ANOTHER WORLD floating above. Use the horse to smash into black globes (three of them) and platforms appear for the next barrage. Negotiate the various platforms until you smash into all of the black globes (two of them) until the final one where Lara has to remember her teachings and jump to grab the final one as the Being from Another World freezes the water surface with Lara beneath.

 

Swim to an alcove with a black globe and shatter it to obtain a break in the ice. Surface for air and jump to the ledge. Hide behind the grassy ledge and arm the only weapon you’ve been left with, the Pistols (all other weapons have been lost or taken away). Defeat the Boss and you will be transported to a familiar cave from long ago. Approach the wolf to finish. Moments later you will be greeted by a happy bunch of villagers and the Monk. Watch the credits until the end and when prompted press the spacebar and shoot, revealing Lara in the washroom/dunny/toilet. Exit via the doors on the right to end this most magnificent level.

 

If you still wish to explore the level you can via the trapdoor. The secret and Hidden Large Medipacks are all still accessible.

If you have obtained all of the 6 Hidden Large Medipacks you will be gifted with an invitation to Denis's Birthday. With invitation in hand you can enter the final door without exiting the level and continue down the hallway to the party room picking up the PARTY HAT on the way.
