CRASH TO AN ACCIDENTAL DISCOVERY

Lara slides down into an open-air cave. Shoot the nearby crate, pick up the shotgun ammo and step forward to trigger onscreen instructions that are old hat to most of us by now (although they do alert players to the fact that Lara's "new moves" will be used in this level). Exit W and turn left in front of the fallen tree section to find flares against the rock wall. Continue along this rock wall to find another pathway leading to a clearing with a floor hole. Pull up into the W opening opposite the floor hole for an onscreen hint.

 

Go up the passage to a clearing, note the boulder ahead and turn right to reach a flooded area. Swim through the opening and pull an underwater lever that opens a gate behind you. Go there, wade along the passage and come to a clearing on the other side of the boulder you saw earlier. Continue SE and watch out for the blade trap that's triggered in the passage. Pull down the wall switch to raise a block next to the boulder, get up on it and push the boulder down the sloped passage to fall into the floor hole you saw in the clearing. Its weight triggers something, so follow it down and shoot the waiting vulture and raptor.

 

The crate you can see in the distance is empty, so go NE toward the arched tree stump and find a nearby floor hole where a trap door has lowered. Hop down for the JUNGLE KEY, then go back W along the rock wall a bit and light a flare to find a triangular crawl space. Jump up to grab it and pull inside for SECRET #1 and a small medipack. Get down and approach the huge wrecked aircraft. Go to the S end and use the fallen tree to hop onto the wreckage. Make your way to the top and locate a shallow hole with uzi ammo. Go E toward the open flame and hop down to find a keyhole in the rock face. Use the Jungle Key to open the door and follow the passage to a bridge over deadly water.

 

Go across and shoot two raptors in the clearing ahead. Approach the tree that someone started to cut down and left before the job was completed. Face E, jump up to grab the crack, shimmy left and ledge jump up to grab the higher branch. Shimmy left and pull up. Follow the branch around clockwise and jump S toward a wall switch that lowers an underwater trap door. Go back a bit and follow the rock ledge E for shotgun ammo. Don't try to slide down from here, or you'll get caught in an illegal slope and will have to reload. Best to jump back to the tree limb and safety drop to the ground.

 

Run past the waterfall and stand at the SW corner where the structure and the rock wall meet. Standing a step or two from the corner, jump up and grab a crack in the W rock wall. Ledge jump up to grab the slope and shimmy right around the corner until you can pull up into an alcove for SECRET #2. Grab the shotgun ammo and drop down to slide into the shallow water. Locate the N underwater opening and swim inside to the trap door you lowered earlier. Pull out left into a caged area where a T-Rex is stomping around on the other side.

 

You'll find the SHOTGUN near one of the dead soldiers. Go through the W opening into a cave where two raptors are waiting.  Go SW and take the left fork into a clearing. Hop behind the tree in the SW corner, face E standing right and jump up (action and up arrow keys only) to grab the crack in the trunk. Ledge jump up to grab a higher crack, shimmy left and pull up onto the limb. Turn left and make your way clockwise around the tree limbs, hopping as necessary and picking up the shotgun ammo along the way, until you reach a canyon where you can see a hanging rope in the distance.

 

Use the jutting green ledge to jump SE to the long tree limb, take a running jump from the E end to the next branch to clear the slope, pick up more shotgun ammo and turn to face the rope. Jump to grab it, swing forward and jump off to land in a hole with a wall switch. Pull it down to hear the sound of a gate opening, hop W out of the hole and stand jump S down to a flat ledge. Pick up the UZIS and safety drop to the canyon floor. Go through the SW passage and return to the tree in the far corner. Use the crack on the back side to get up to the limbs once more and return to that green jutting ledge.

 

This time, jump to the NW limb, and from the other end hop NE to a stable ledge. Hop further to the opening in the N wall and follow the tunnel past the opened gate while the T-Rex continues stomping around close by. Pick up the large medipack and shotgun ammo near the E end, save your game and step onto the trap door to pick up the TEMPLE KEY. As you might expect, the trap door opens and drops you down into the lair of the T-Rex, which has somehow managed to get past the bars into the area you explored earlier. Draw your shotgun and fire a few blasts into its belly to dispatch it.

 

Jump into the water hole and swim back to the clearing. Wade out and run E toward the flaming torches. Use the Temple Key to open the bamboo gate and enter the temple as the gate closes behind you. Head W where you see an opened gate, save your game and sprint down the ramp while being chased by a boulder. Turn the corner at the bottom, continue down the ramp and hop to your right over the hole at the next corner. Shoot the native in the next room, turn around and go back S to the top of the ramp, noting in passing that a second boulder had been triggered during your mad dash. Turn around and jump N to grab the crack. Ledge jump back, grab the opening and pull up into the crawl space for SECRET #3, shotgun ammo and a large medipack.

 

Return to the room where you encountered the native and turn left to face the alcove with a flame blower. When the flames subside, stand jump over the slope into the alcove and pull down the wall switch. Get back down, loop around left and face the N wall with three flame blowers. When one of them subsides, jump up and find the pushblock in the wall. Push it to reveal a wall switch that raises blocks against the S wall and opens a trap door. Use the blocks to grab up S and ledge jump up to pull up past the opened trap door into an upper room as the trap door closes behind you.

 

Take a TORCH from the nearby plinth, light it on the wall sconce (the trap door stays shut) and approach the bamboo gate that opens automatically. Step out into a familiar area and head over to the E wall. Light the wall sconce, and this time the trap door opens beneath your feet. Slide down, hop down from the opening, drop your torch here (which you no longer need) and go across the bridge to the crossing. Note the raptors prancing about below and go through the S opening on your right.

 

Go up the steps, continue through the short passage and drop down to the room below. Pick up the nearby shotgun ammo and run across the room to trigger the appearance of an ahmet. It took an even dozen blasts from the shotgun to make it explode. Blocks have risen S and N, so use the S block to pull down a wall switch and the N block to exit back to the bridge. Go across to the S opening and save your game before entering. If you just stroll inside a boulder will drop down at the entrance to crush you, so run in with a sharp left curve to land on a block next to the entrance ramp.

 

Walk down to the end of the ramp, hop to the higher block and immediately back flip as another boulder drops down. Hop back up to the block, face E and stand at the lower corner of the block. Take a running jump to grab the opening in the wall, pull up and save your game in front of the breaktiles. Run over the breaktiles, jump over the blade trap onto a slope and jump over the lava pool around the corner onto a ledge. There's more lava ahead, so when the swinging blades come together at the bottom of their swing, stand jump past them and grab the corner ledge. Pull up, turn left and take a running jump W over the lava to a ledge. Immediately hop back and grab the edge as a boulder rolls down from your left.

 

Pull up, go where the boulder came from, stand with your back against the S wall and jump to activate the jump switch to lower a block on the N ledge. Jump there and time a running jump E past the flame blower to grab the block. Pull up and jump to grab the opening in the E wall. Pull up, crawl underneath the blade trap and pull down the generously timed wall switch for a static cut scene that focuses on a crack (if you took the time you don't have to look hard enough). Hit the look key to kill the cut scene, get past the blade, stand at the opening and take two steps back, then do a walking running jump to grab the previous block. Pull up, turn left and face the crack that was showcased in the cut scene. Jump to grab it, shimmy left just around the corner and ledge jump back to grab a block jutting from the N wall.

 

Pull up, jump S to the ledge and run past the lava hole on your right to the timed gate on your left. Jump inside the opening and pull down the wall switch to lower a block above the water hole behind you. Go there, hop with grab over the lava pit to where the block lowered, turn left and jump over the lava to a new pathway taking you back to the water room. There's nothing to find in the water, so jump over to the ramp and return S to the bridge. The E face of the central column has a climbing surface, so climb down to the room below and deal with two raptors if necessary (they may be stuck in a wall or in the plants).

 

Go past the opened gate into the E alcove and pull down the wall switch to open another gate elsewhere. Climb back up the column to the bridge and go across W to where you left the torch earlier. Pull up three times, run forward to the lighted sconces where the gate opened, enter to onscreen congratulations and take the golden artifact from the plinth to end the level.
