JUNGLE – PART ONE

Begin facing a ravine in a jungle setting, as if you were playing the commercial release of TR3, but that’s where the resemblance ends. Go around right and follow the ledge to shotgun ammo, return and go around left this time. When you get past the tree, drop into the hole, hang from the edge, shimmy left to a slope and release to slide past a vine layer and land next to the SHOTGUN. Start sliding down the long ravine. On the way down you can jump to grab the fallen tree and pull up to greet a friendly monkey. Look down over the edge to see the spaced spike-trapped tiles below. If you’re willing to take the risk, hang a little more than a block away from the right end (as you look down) of the fallen tree and drop to land on a flat spot next to the nearest spike trap. Take a running jump slightly to your right and jump with right curves as you slide down to land on a ledge next to a crawl space.
Enter the crawl space and follow the path to a ramp on your right. Trigger the boulder, take refuge in a side alcove and continue up to a wider ramp. You’ll wind up at an opening that overlooks the ravine. Hop onto the block ahead for a large medipack. Take a couple of jumps ahead to the rock wall and look down left to see another poised boulder. Stand a little more than a block away from the wall, face the boulder and run off the edge. You should land and slide next to shotgun ammo without triggering the boulder. You can then walk up to the nearby large medipack where the boulder can’t reach you. Jump around the tree trunk and follow the ledge around to more shotgun ammo. Go back to a flat spot next to the tree truck, stand jump onto the sloped ravine and back flip upon landing to clear the spikes and slide safely next to an opening.
Jump up to grab the ledge over the opening and pull up through the vines for a large medipack. Drop back down and enter the temple area. Slide down and climb the block to your left to reach the surrounding ledge. Jump to the waterfall nook on the far left for shotgun ammo, jump back down to the ledge and run to the other end. Jump into the nook on the far right to find a wall switch that opens a nearby door. Get down to the valley floor but beware of the quicksand areas. Jump into the lower opening below the one through which you arrived, turn left in front of the columns and go through a narrow passage and around a tree trunk to emerge at another wall switch. Pull it down to open another door and step out onto the ledge that overlooks a lake.
Jump the ledges jutting from the columns for flares, safety drop to the ground and go around this column to find a water hole beyond a narrow passage that’s parallel to the water’s edge. Be careful not to fall into the lake, or you’ll be grabbed by a strong current. Note the water hole for later and follow the wall until you can climb a block and a tree trunk to the doorway you opened with that second wall switch. Don’t enter yet, however, if you want another pickup. Pull up to the ledge above and loop around right. Take a running jump to grab a moss-covered ledge, pull up and turn left through the opening. Follow to a large medipack and return to the opened doorway. Hop down into a dark passage and note the spike wall to your left. Go to the wall switch in the far wall, pull it down to trigger the spike wall, hop back and back flip into the window alcove as the spike wall passes by.
Hop down, go left and pull up into the wall opening. Ride the zip line down to a tree trunk, Pull up and take a running jump angled to your right to land on a ledge. Go up for shotgun ammo, return to the tree trunk and take a standing jump to grab the limb jutting out over the water. Pull up, turn left and take a running jump to grab the limb on the next tree. Pull up for shotgun ammo and to get back, stand near the zip line and take a running jump in its direction to land next to the tree trunk. For a pickup, walk left around the trunk and jump toward the nearby leafy plant. Continue past the vine wall for flares and return to the trunk. Pull up onto it and jump into the dark opening opposite the zip line. Follow the passage down some steps and shoot the tiger in the next area. For a pickup, shoot the monkey before it has a chance to steal the small medipack in the waterfall alcove in the corner to your right.
Note the keyhole in the column separating the two waterfall alcoves and go past a third waterfall alcove and a broken column to jump into an opening. From the higher end you can take a running jump to grab the first of three parallel ledges. Pull up, jump the ledges and step into the waterfall alcove for the TEMPLE KEY. Get back down to the same opening, stand left and take a running jump in the other direction (toward the broken column) and grab the higher ledge. Pull up, jump to the next ledge and go to the other end for flares. Get back down to the floor and place the Temple Key in the keyhole you noted earlier. A nearby ceiling trap door drops open, so go around and climb the ladder in the column past the opening and back flip next to a wall switch that opens a door elsewhere.
Get down, go toward the back right corner of this area (opposite the entrance passage) and look in a corner waterfall alcove for a large medipack. Then go across to the back left corner of this area and Lara will look up at closed double doors in the wall. The door you just opened is near the corner to the left of the closed door. Enter a short winding passage and climb the ladder at the end. Pull up near a wall switch that opens those doors down below. Get down there and go on through as the doors close behind you.
Just past the falling water, climb onto the block to your left for a small medipack. As you venture further you’ll attract the attention of two tigers, but you can hop onto a small central island and deal with them from a position of complete safety. If you loop around left from where you entered this area and look up near the corner, you’ll see a high opening you can’t access. However, nearby is a broken column, the bottom section of which serves as a pushblock. Move it against the wall underneath the opening, then pull into the crawl space for a STONE DISK (1 of 3). Get down and jump into the moat surrounding the central island. Locate and pull the underwater lever to open a door in the wall on the other side of where you entered this area. Pull out, but before going to the opened door head to the previously unexplored area on the right side of the central island (from where you entered). Lara will look up at a tall building in the distance, but that’s for later.
Turn right, get around the tree trunk and find a small medipack in the corner. Jump into the water, locate the opening in the far wall, swim inside and pull out into an alcove for a STONE DISK (2 of 3). Return to the water, swim to the other end past lowered platforms and pull out left onto the ledge. Exit to the central area and turn right to find the door you opened with the underwater lever. Go up the winding steps to a veranda and go diagonally left to look for shotgun ammo on the grated floor in the corner. At the far end of the veranda on the other side, where rain is falling, is a column with a wall switch. Pull it down to raise those underwater platforms you noted earlier, return to that area and go across toward the building that Lara was looking at as she entered.
Go around the building on the right side and hop up into a triangular wall opening partially obscured by the greenery. Grab the shotgun ammo at the end of the short tunnel, exit and go around the left side of the building to find a ladder. Climb up to a ledge, turn around and jump to the building. Go around, hop onto the nearby tree limb and jump around the jump to the opposite limb for a STONE DISK (3 of 3). Get back to the building and find receptacles for the disks. Place all three and the front door down below will open. Get back down, enter the building, and of course the door will close behind you.
As you progress along the walkway spanning a dark water-filled room, flames are ignited on the blocks on either side. When you reach the far end, jump into the water and pull the underwater lever underneath the walkway to lower a ceiling trap door. Surface, pull out onto the walkway and find that one of the four nearby doors (two on each side) can be shattered with your pistols. Do so, jump over there and go up the winding ramp to a ledge overlooking the previous room. Turn right and follow the ledge to the far corner for a large medipack. Turn left and jump the gap to find the ladder beneath the trap door you saw in the cut scene. Climb up past the opened trap door and back flip to a corridor. Note the spike wall, pull down the wall switch to raise a platform, reverse roll and run and jump to grab the ladder as the spike wall passes by. Back flip to the corridor and find shotgun ammo where the spike wall used to be.
Climb down the ladder, jump back to the ledge and go about halfway down. Look for an overhang with monkey bars, jump up to grab them and monkey swing to the other side with the assistance of the raised platform. Drop onto the ledge, turn left and follow to a wall switch that rolls away the stone door down below. Drop down into the water, pull out onto the walkway and go up the steps to greet a tiger. Go up the steps to your left and loop left around the tree for a small medipack. Continue up to a higher ledge, stay to your right and jump to a smaller ledge between a statue and a tree. Pull down the wall switch to your left to open a door down below and jump back to the larger ledge. Go around to the other side and locate a similar small ledge beyond another statue. Jump there, pull down the wall switch to your right and another door opens.
Get down to the lower level and locate the pool beneath the suspended cage. In the far corners are the two doors that opened. As you face the pool from the entrance steps, go through the doorway on your right and slide down a long slope to a dark passage that leads to a room with spikes and a water-filled channel. Follow the channel around right, pause for flares at the corner and note the wall switch that lifts a timed platform. Don’t pull it down yet, push the nearby block one time away from the switch, get on it so you won’t take damage from the spikes and push it one time away from the wall. Return to the wall switch, light a flare and save your game for a tight timed run. Pull down the switch, reverse roll and run toward the cage you moved, jump on it while turning and take a running jump in the opposite direction to grab the high jutting ledge. Save in a different slot as you’re pulling up, run toward the wall and loop around left to take a running jump and grab the raised platform. Pull up and take a running jump to the safe corner ledge ahead.
Continue around the perimeter of this room in a counterclockwise direction with jumps and grabs as appropriate, making your way steadily higher until you reach a wall opening with overhead monkey bars. Pull down the wall switch in the alcove (screen shot of an underwater door) and monkey swing across the room. Drop to grab the ladder and climb down to another wall opening. Follow up a ramp to a floor hole, drop down to a lower passage and exit via the same doorway by which you entered.
Run past the pool into the other opened doorway and slide down a long slope that leads to an underground pool. Don’t fall into the water or you’ll be dragged to your death by the current. Take a running jump to grab the central block and pull up. Take a running jump through the spikes, sustaining unavoidable health loss, to grab the ledge ahead. Pull up and run forward to a wall switch that opens a floor trap door down in the pool and turns off the current. Drop into the water, swim to the ledge across the pool for flares and go down the central floor hole to find a short passage where you can pull out in front of a wall switch that opens the underwater door you saw in an earlier cut scene. Return to the pool, pull out at the entrance and back flip onto the slope in the passage. Jump off to grab the ladder and climb up to near the top. Back flip onto a ledge, hop down the other side and exit to the pool with the now-open underwater door.
Jump into the water, swim through the opening and come to another pool with a covered top. Pull the underwater lever to lower a barrier, return to the first pool and pull out at one of the short sides. Locate the large wall button near the pool between the two doorways and push it to lift platforms adjoining the nearby suspended cage. Go up the steps to the upper ledge, go to the suspended cage and get up onto it. Face the nearby wall and jump up while firing your pistols to shatter the door. Get back down and move the cage along either raised platform and against the wall underneath the opening you created. Use it to pull up into the opening and follow the passage to a slope similar to others you have previously encountered
Slide down to a room with fire-breathing figureheads and loop around right to find a small medipack among the plants. The wall switch across the room is protected by a swinging blade, so return to the entrance and pull up into a high crawl space to the right of the slope. Follow to a wall switch that turns off the blade, so you can get down and past the flames to pull down the switch that lifts the door to your left. Go on through to a room with a deep pit. Take a running jump to grab the breaktile, pull up and stand jump to the far ledge. Grab the small medipack and flares, stand at the edge and take a swan dive down to the water hole far below. Allow the current to carry you to an underwater room. Quickly locate and pull three underwater levers, pause for flares on a column fragment if you have time, swim up past the opened ceiling trap door and surface.
Pull out into a sun-lit area and step forward to attract two tigers. Continue along the wall to your left and you’ll come to a pushblock. Push it forward two times, then pull it two times away from the wall. Climb up onto it and jump up to grab the ladder. Climb to a higher ledge and turn right to the corner. Find the bridge going diagonally toward the center of this area and follow around left for shotgun ammo at the dead end. Go back the other way, turn left and follow the perimeter to a wall switch that opens a door far away in the opposite wall. Continue clockwise along the outer ledge until you reach a small medipack next to a boulder, then retrace your steps in the other direction (using the convenient bridge as a short cut) until you reach the opened doorway near the corner. Light a flare and save your game before entering.
Spike walls and a swinging blade are activated, so you need to jump over the blade (and a breaktile) and duck to enter the crawl space ahead before the spike walls close in on you. Use a medipack and save again in a different slot when you get inside the crawl space without dying. Crawl to the end of the passage, turn around and drop down onto a ramp with a boulder poised up to your left in an alcove. Draw your pistols, sprint down the ramp with the boulder in hot pursuit, turn left when you reach the bottom and shoot the fragile door. Duck inside just ahead of the boulder and step out into a shallow pond.
Go to the far wall for a small medipack and come back to the tree trunk. Pull up three times, look to your right for a wall switch and go there to pull it down. A nearby door opens, so go back and drop down one time through the leaf cover to find the opened doorway. Hop around the tree trunk to the opposite limb for flares, then hop onto the ledge in front of the opened door. Shoot the next door and hop down into a familiar area. Turn left, run to the corner and safety drop past the opened trap door. Enter the dark tunnel ahead to finish the level.
