Level 1: UTAH DESERT

Slide down into a desert gulch, draw your pistols and shoot a snake hidden in a bush just around the corner. Continue to an open area with warning signs. Kill another snake near the sign and await the arrival of two vultures. Look for shotgun ammo beyond the snake bush and go past the taller rock structure for flares near another snake. Above the nearby cactus is a rock ledge with a ladder surface. Jump to grab it and climb up to a ledge. Jump past the column onto another ledge ahead and pull up into a crawl space. Crawl around the corner, drop from other side and take a running jump curving left to grab the upper opening in the rock face. Pull up in front of a wire mesh fence and continue around the perimeter with two standing jumps and a running jump as a jet plane flies overhead. Take one more standing jump and run off toward the wall to land in a floor hole.

Go around the corner, shoot a snake and pull down the wall switch to open the gate in the wire mesh fence. Go back, jump out of the floor hole and slide to the ground. Shoot another nearby snake, return to the rock ledge with the ladder surface and get back up to the opened gate in the same manner as earlier. Go on through, watch out for falling stalactites hanging over the second bush and wade out slowly into the quicksand and activate a hidden trigger tile. Take a running jump over the trigger tile toward the passage ahead and to your right, wade quickly around the corner and walk toward the lamppost to avoid the falling stalactites. Continue toward a canyon with a river down below and look right for shotgun ammo. Jump into the water, avoiding the rocks below and swim to the left wall for more shotgun ammo. Swim the other way, and when you reach a bend to the left (bringing you toward a waterfall), look right for a small triangular opening. Swim down into it and follow for SECRET #1 and pick up uzi ammo and shotgun ammo. Continue in the same direction to an open gate and surface for air.

Look a bit to your left for more uzi ammo and swim in the other direction toward the waterfall. Turn left into the wall opening and stay left until you can surface and pull out. Walk forward through a narrow pass to trigger a boulder, hop back quickly and go past it up left. Pull up into a crawl space and follow around to an opening that overlooks a dig area. Drop down and go through the nearby opening to engage a worker. Examine the crates for a small medipack, drop down to the lower area and look for one of two drill-protected floor holes. Hop down for MP5 ammo, jump back out and note the inaccessible wall switches. The two crates down here are pushblocks, so move the first one past the nearer wall switch so that it’s adjacent to both floor holes. Move the second pushblock underneath the wall switch and save your game for an elaborate timed sequence that the lack of a compass makes it difficult to describe in words. The various switches raise timed floor trap doors that must be navigated in the order set forth below. You would be wise to save before pulling each switch, as the timers are tight.

Get up onto the pushblock, pull down the wall switch and side flip left onto the second pushblock. Hop back into the drill bit hole and push the block once forward. Hop onto the block, pull down the second timed wall switch and turn left. Hop back into the drill bit hole, push the block once forward, pull up onto the left side of the pushblock and turn left to pull down a third timed wall switch. Back flip over the drill bit, pull and push the block four times, hop up right over the block at an angle into a drill bit hole. Push the block one time into the opposite drill bit hole, go back around left to the next pushblock, get up on it and pull down the timed switch. Turn left, hop back and push the block two times next to a drill bit hole. Get up on it, turn right and hop back. Push the block once and get up on it to face another timed switch. Pull it down, turn left, hop back into the drill bit hole and push the block once. Hop over the right side of this block and pull it three times under another timed switch. Get up on the block, pull the switch, turn left and hop back onto the floor, push the block once, hop over it on the left side and push the block next to a higher pushblock. Get up and push the higher block once to reveal a passage. Crawl backwards under the drill bit and drop back down to the floor. Turn right to a pushblock you moved earlier, get up on it and pull down the switch. Back flip to the floor, get quickly up into the passage to your left past the drill bit and push the upper pushblock two times. Get up on it and step forward for the TRAPDOOR KEYCARD.

Return past the drill bits, stand jump to the upper area with the crates and exit to the underground cavern. Pull up into the crawl space on your left, crawl to the other end and slide down into the water. Swim straight across, pull out onto a triangular ledge and hop up left. Step forward and climb the ladder to a higher ledge, turn left and take a running jump across the water onto a jutting ledge. Shoot the snake hiding in the bush and walk as far left as you can. Take a running jump toward the cactus and Lara will look up at the canyon wall. Walk past the cactus and take a running jump across the water to grab a long wall ladder. Climb to the top, pull up, turn right and take a running jump to grab a ledge across the gap. Pull up, shoot the snake and a high-flying vulture, stand jump onto a ledge past the snake bush and pull up into a crawl space. Hang from the other end, shimmy right and drop onto a ledge. Hop up toward the cactus and enter the passage ahead.

Emerge at an outdoor campsite, shoot the charging dog and the snake in the nearby bush. Engage the worker lurking beside the hut and look for the SHOTGUN on a crate. Enter the hut and save your game in front of the timed wall switch. Pull it down, exit the hut and loop around left, climb onto the roof, reverse roll and take a running jump onto the flat part (lighter color) of the rock ledge. Work your way around clockwise with two standing jumps followed by a running jump onto a slope. Slide and jump to grab the roof of the metal shack, pull up and run around right to take a running jump to grab the timed platform, pull up and scoot left into the alcove before the platform drops back down. Pull down the wall switch there (not timed), safety drop to the ground and shoot another worker. The topography has changed, so go around the pit and take a running jump with grab to land inside the wall opening. Pull down the wall switch to open a gate near the waterfall and jump back across. Exit the campsite via the connecting passage, jump into the water, turn right and swim around the corner to find the opened gate on your left.

Pull out into an area filled with crates and shoot the worker. Look on the crates for uzi ammo and pull down the corner wall switch to raise a platform elsewhere. Exit, jump into the water and swim all the way back to the waterfall. Pull out right onto that triangular ledge, jump left onto the higher block and climb the ladder to the upper ledge. Jump across the water onto the jutting ledge, take a running jump left toward the cactus and this time continue forward along this side of the river with two standing jumps. You will reach a closed gate, but go past it and shoot a snake around the bend. Look for the raised platform and take a running jump onto it. Continue with a running jump a bit left onto the triangular ledge and hop toward the wall opening. Follow the passage to a receptacle for the Trapdoor Keycard. Sure enough, the trap door to your right drops down, so drop down to a familiar cavern with crates. Hop down and pull that wall switch back up to retract the suspended platform.

Loop around right and use the ladder to climb up and back flip into the previous passage. Return to the opening overlooking the river and loop around right to find another ladder. Climb up to a ledge and shoot a circling vulture. Take a running jump to grab the suspended platform, pull up and take a running jump toward the metal fence where you see the worker marching back and forth. Hop left into a shallow hole and crawl under the fence to kill the worker and a snake hidden in a bush to your left. Continue a little further to find uzi ammo on a crate. A door opens nearby to release a dog. Take a few more steps and a worker charges out of the hut to your left. Go inside to find the UZIS on a crate, shoot another worker and pull down the corner wall switch to open a roof trap door.

Exit, go back the way you came and find a large medipack on a crate. Note two receptacles on either side of a closed door (where you'll much later place the Facility Keycards to finish the level) and go back past the central building. The small building ahead has an opened door, so enter the latrine for uzi ammo. Exit, check the crates on your left for shotgun ammo and shoot the snake hiding in the nearby bush. Go around to the other side of the building ahead (just past the cactus) and climb up onto the roof. Use the raised platform in the far corner to jump across onto the roof of the next building. Await the arrival of a vulture, find the opened trap door and drop inside the building to engage a worker. Pick up the dropped small medipack and pull down the wall switch to open a fence gate elsewhere, as well as the door across the room. Exit the building and run diagonally left toward the larger buildings in the distance. As you approach the warehouse on your left, you’ll encounter a snake in the first bush. A little further on, a worker will come out from the first bay to challenge you. Look in the near right corner for a large medipack and proceed to the second bay. When you enter a ceiling grappling hook will be activated.

Grab the shotgun ammo from the sunken floor, climb the crates in the far left corner and enter the crawl space there. Crawl to the first bay and another ceiling grappling hook will be activated. Stand jump to grab the ceiling and monkey swing along the marked track in a clockwise motion around the grappling hook until you can drop onto a crate next to a wall switch. Pull it down to raise a platform and lower a platform in the second bay. Drop to the floor, return to the second bay and find the raised platform to your left. Get up onto it and push the pushblock onto the blue crate. You can now use the pushblock to time a running jump past the grappling hook to grab the ceiling, but first, turn around, climb the other crate and use the crawl space to return to the first bay. Jump to grab the ceiling and repeat your circuit to the block in front of the wall switch. Pull it back up to raise and lower the same platforms in reverse order. Drop to the floor, return to the second bay and get up onto the pushblock you moved earlier. Take a running jump past the grappling hook to grab the ceiling and monkey swing over to the raised platform. Hop over to the corner block and pull down the wall switch to open a door to one of the huts.

Exit the warehouse, look left on a crate for flares and shoot the snake in the nearby bush. Enter the wall passage with the warning signs and find the fence gate you opened earlier. Avoid the stalactites hanging over the water and go past the opened gate. Follow the winding passage downward and avoid more stalactites until you reach an open dig area guarded by two workers and a dog. Check the crates to your right for shotgun ammo, look for a wall switch next to a nearby digging machine and pull it down to open a fence gate on the other side of the dig area. Go there and time your way past two digging machines after triggering the stalactites at the entrance. You’ll then come to a quicksand pit, so make sure you’re at full health before walking into the quicksand to trigger something a bit further ahead. Take a running jump and wade straight ahead through a fixed camera until you see Lara’s head bobbing above the surface. Continue forward but steer right or left as you emerge from the quicksand to avoid falling stalactites.

Save your game as you walk toward the opening ahead. A door will close behind you upon entry and a boulder will crush you unless you turn right and sprint through the corridor past a digging machine into an open dig area. Side flip left to avoid the boulder and shoot the alerted worker. Search the area for shotgun ammo while avoiding more falling stalactites. Locate and pull down a wall switch for a brief cut scene. Go to the edge of the deep pit and jump your way around clockwise while avoiding falling stalactites. When you make a final jump toward the digging machine, hop back and grab the edge as two boulders come rolling down toward you. Go up left past more stalactites and two digging machines into an open dig area you visited earlier. Shoot the worker and go up the hill to the metal building. Hop past the dormant digging machine and pick up the DETONATOR KEY in the room ahead (cut scene). Exit the building, loop around right up that winding passage and stay left to emerge at the outdoor warehouse area

Run straight forward past the building into the canyon passage and encounter a snake a bit further ahead. Continue to a shallow pool, shoot a worker and a snake in the bush around the corner of the nearby building. Look for shotgun ammo on a crate near the opening in the rock wall. Use one of the crates to climb up onto the roof of this building, face the direction from which you came and take a running jump to grab the slightly higher rock ledge. Pull up and turn to face the building. Save your game and take a precise running jump onto the upper slope as close to the building wall as possible, jump off with a right curve and land on the roof for SECRET #2. Grab the shotgun ammo, large medipack and the DESERT EAGLE, then drop to the lower roof at the other end of the building. Take a running jump onto the lighter colored flat ledge and walk to the other end. Take a running jump to the next ledge, shoot a vulture and take a running jump toward the small pool to grab the jutting ledge. Pull up, walk forward and stand jump right to land next to an opening in the rock wall. Proceed to a small cave, grab the uzi ammo from one of the crates and find the detonator switch you saw in the cut scene. Place the Detonator Key to create two explosions. Get down to the ground, go through the rock wall opening next to the building and shoot the alerted worker. Go around the corner and into a room inside the building, vault onto the crate for desert eagle ammo and hop down toward the door that opens automatically.

Before leaving, turn around and look for a ladder near the crates. Climb up past the ceiling hole, back flip to the upper level and go through the connecting hallway to engage a worker who drops a small medipack. Enter a puzzle room with numbered floor tiles. The clue is on a desktop computer screen: 2X – 7 = 69. 69 plus 7 is 76, divided by 2 is 38. Therefore, step only on those tiles bearing the digits 3 and 8 (there are four of them, and you can jump back and forth and use the wooden floor as needed. The door opens in the previous room, so go there and enter a small storage room for a FACILITY KEYCARD (1 of 2). Use the ladder to get back down, exit via the opened door and loop left past the warehouse area to the area with the smaller huts. The hut on the far left is now open, so go inside, hop onto the pool table for uzi ammo and the WAREHOUSE KEY, and look for a wall switch on the side of a cabinet. Nothing seems to happen when you pull it down, but exit and backtrack to the warehouse area. Use the Warehouse Key to gain access to the building on your right.

Shoot two workers posted inside, search the room for shotgun ammo and look for a wall switch near the back right corner that activates three ceiling grappling hooks and a series of rising and falling platforms. Climb the taller blocks at the corner next to the entrance, jump onto the highest block and stand jump to grab the ceiling. Monkey swing past the nearest grappling hook toward the far wall. Turn right and position Lara so that she can drop onto the back edge of the platform as it rises. Take a running jump to grab the blue crate, pull up and save your game. Turn to your right, stand right and time a running jump onto the rising platform next to the second grappling hook. Jump up immediately upon landing to grab the ceiling and monkey swing forward to the next platform. This time, turn left and position Lara in a similar fashion as before. Drop when the platform rises and take a running jump to grab the corner crate. Pull up, save again, face the platform against the adjacent wall and time a running jump onto it. Continue with a pixel-perfect running jump to grab the next corner crate. Pull up in front of a wall switch that opens a fence gate down below.

Drop to the floor, enter a storage room and mount the quad bike inside. Drive around the crates, exit to the outdoor area and turn left. Drive to the area with the smaller huts, turn left and continue between two of the huts. Drive with speed up the rock slope to clear a barbed wire fence and land inside the enemy compound. Either run over three armed guards and a dog, or dismount quickly (end key + arrow key) and dispatch them with gunfire. Look for a small medipack and uzi ammo on two of the crates and climb down the ladder in the floor hole next to the parked truck (an earlier wall switch must have opened the trap door there). Shoot the waiting guard and step into the control room for SECRET #3. Pick up the dropped small medipack and search the room for MP5 ammo and 2 x uzi ammo. Climb back out, go to the right side of the hut for shotgun ammo and enter the hut to find a corner floor hole. Drop down to a lower storage room and pull the pushblock to reveal an opening that leads to a labyrinthine area. Shoot a rat and search the passage to your left for a small medipack and another rat. Keep moving to flush out a third rat, then look for an opening in the back wall. Vault up into the room ahead and pull down the wall switch to flood the area behind you. You can now wade straight across the area, with one dogleg left, until you reach a depression with an underwater lever that opens a door not far away. Before going there, return to the wall switch and push it back up to drain the area once again. Hop down, turn right and follow around the perimeter to the opened door. Vault up to face a room with many columns, three of which are flame-protected. Jump left onto a corner block in front of a timed button and listen for the sound of activated machinery. Save your game.

Push the button to turn off the flame burners. Turn around and take several jumps to reach the block in the other corner, turn left and jump to grab the next block on the right side. If you’ve made good time thus far, save again as you’re pulling up. You now need to navigate the remaining column tops with continuous running jumps until you reach the corner block with a second timed button. Save before pushing it. You might want to make a test run first to learn the route to be followed. Push the button, take a running jump into the water, swim across and pull out, jump up to the entrance, hop down left and sprint to the timed door at the back wall. Save again when you get through successfully. Talk about getting out of the frying pan and into the fire. You now face a gauntlet of flame-protected columns and ceiling grappling hooks. Work off some of your frustration by shooting two rats scampering down below, then make life easier for yourself by numbering the six columns arranged in a circle around a safe column. The one in the back left corner will be 1, the one in the back right corner will be 5. The one behind the safe column will be 6. Your objective is to navigate the column tops in a specific order to turn off the flames so that you can access the crawl space in the far wall. Although you can’t shimmy around corners in TR3, you can stand jump onto a corner where you’ll always be safe from the grappling hooks, or you can grab the edge and shimmy to a corner before pulling up. You can also walk safely along the column edges. Tedious, but not that difficult.

Start by taking a running jump to grab the central safe column. Pull up in a corner to turn off the flame on column 1. Jump to column 1 to extinguish the flame on column 5. Make your way there and the flame on column 6 goes out. Go to 6 and the flame on column 3 goes out. Go to 3 and the flame on 5 goes out. Go to 5 and the flame on column 2 goes out. Go to 2 and all flames are now out. Make your way to the crawl space, go on through to the next room and find a FACILITY KEYCARD (2 of 2) on a crate. When you pick it up the timed door opens, so return to the room with the columns, drop down for shotgun ammo and pull out on the other side. Return to the drained area and stay left to find the opening to the storage room. Climb the ladder to the hut, exit and shoot the waiting guard, enter the building on your right and pull down the wall switch to power down some machinery. Exit and look for a wall switch at the rear of the parked truck to open the gates to your right. Enter and turn left to find the receptacles for your Keycards. Place them to lift the door between them and go on through to finish the level.

Level 2: THE FACILITY

Run forward and around the corner to get a warning cut scene, hop over the first green laser (from the middle of the hallway due to the low ceiling), crawl under the second one and hop over the third and last one. Enter the floor crawl space on your right for flares and wait for the moving laser ahead to move by to your right. Crawl diagonally left into another crawl space opening and following to another moving laser. Again, wait until it moves by right, crawl out left and run to the far wall where you’ll be safe. There’s another moving laser overhead, so wait for it to pass behind you, pull up into a higher crawl space and drop out the other end into a hallway.

Push the nearby button to open the gates, but don’t go back that way yet. Turn right and enter a control room to engage a guard. Vault onto the crate for the MP5 and MP5 ammo, pull down the corner wall switch to lift a door in the hallway and exit. Get past the green lasers as you did earlier and turn left past the opened door. Draw a powerful weapon and approach the connecting walkway as a cut scene shows a guard approaching from your left. A door will soon open to your right and release a dog and a second guard while an alarm starts blaring for a brief period of time. Pick up the dropped small medipack and enter the office where the door opened for another small medipack.

Go down the connecting hallway and turn right into an outdoor courtyard. Search the crates for uzi ammo and shotgun ammo, shoot a snake hidden in a bush, exit to the hallway through either opening and enter a room in the hallway that’s between those two openings. Grab the large medipack and note for much later the four fuse receptacles. Exit, run straight down the hallway and turn right into the connecting hallway. Shoot a guard and enter the control room on your right for shotgun ammo. Pull down the wall switch to open the doors to the control room on the other side of the hallway, go there to engage a guard and find uzi ammo on a crate. Shoot the grate in the back corner, crawl into the duct and light a flare. Go around the corner, stand up and jump over the slope, slide and jump to grab the opening. Wait for the moving red laser to go by left, pull up and loop around right just in front of the yellow laser where you’ll be safe. When the red laser moves away, go back for the large medipack and return. Slide down the slope next to the yellow laser, land in front of a spinning fan and draw your pistols.

Shoot the target behind the fan to hear the sound of a trap door opening. Back flip onto the slope, jump and grab the opening, shift left and pull up next to the yellow laser. Carefully crawl around left to an adjacent duct where you will face an assortment of lasers. Get up on one knee (space bar), and when the overhead laser starts moving away, roll forward (sprint + jump keys) into the passage, turn right in front of the yellow laser and run to the far wall. Enter the crawl space, crawl to the end, shoot the grate and lower Lara onto a balcony overlooking a laser field. Hop onto the blue crate for a large medipack, get down and push the button to open the exit door. For a secret, enter a familiar hallway and run forward to the crossing. Turn right into the control room, enter the corner crawl space once again and go around the corner. Light a flare, jump over the slope and jump to grab the opening as you did before. This time, shimmy left, wait for the laser to go by right, pull up into the passage and quickly turn right. Jump up to grab the higher opening and pull up into the crawl space for SECRET #4. Crawl forward for MP5 ammo, uzi ammo and a large medipack, hang from the edge and drop when the laser passes underneath, run forward and turn right in front of the yellow laser. Slide down to the fan as you did earlier, stand left and back flip onto the slope. Grab the crawl space, pull inside and crawl around left to the adjacent duct. Roll past the receding overhead laser into the passage, turn right and run to the crawl space. Crawl through and drop down onto the balcony. Go to the right side of the laser field next to the doorway, vault up onto the ledge and save your game.

When the laser starts moving away from you, stand jump two times over the stationary beams and land on a closed trap door at the far corner. Turn left and follow the same procedure to reach the next corner, but be sure to step on the penultimate trigger tile. Turn left, repeat as before and pull out onto the ledge. That’s the easy part. You now need to step on interior trigger tiles to open that corner trap door. The laser field is seven blocks square. Counting from left to right, stand in front of row 3 and save again. When the coast is clear, run off the edge onto the first block, step forward onto the second block and back flip onto the ledge. Move over to the right half of row 4 and time a running jump onto the field. Walk up to the intersection of the beams where you’re safe, and when the time is right, hop back and jump over the beam ahead. Walk forward to the next intersection, turn right and walk onto the final trigger tile to open the trap door. Hop directly into the floor hole and save so you won’t have to repeat all this later.

Pull down the wall switch to open a gate in the hallway. Pull out of the floor hole to find that the moving lasers have been stilled. The laser beams are still deadly, however, so take standing jumps over them as you return to the ledge and pull up. Exit left to the hallway and turn left again to find the opened gate. Go on through to attract a guard on your right and note the wall ladder to your left. For now, go where the guard came from and loop around left to find a button that opens a gate to the familiar central area and releases a guard and a dog. Go back clockwise in the hallway around the central area and find another button that opens double doors into the central area. Return to the ladder you noted earlier and climb to back flip onto an upper hallway. Turn to your right and run past the armory to trigger a cut scene of barbed wire ahead. Continue around the corner and come to a control room where a guard is posted. Grab the desert eagle ammo on the crate and pull down the wall switch to open a nearby door.

Exit to the hallway, enter the room to your left and shoot the lurking guard. Search the upper bunks for the LASER DEACTIVATION DISK and exit to the hallway and engage a second guard. Enter the next room to your left and search the upper bunks for shotgun ammo. Exit to the hallway and run around the central area in a counterclockwise direction past the armory and take a left into the connecting hallway. Proceed to the next connecting hallway, wait a few seconds and the door to your left will open to release a dog and a guard. In the hallway to your right is another guard, and an alarm will go off and stop after a while. Enter the room where the dog and guard came from for shotgun ammo, go down the hallway toward the lasers you see in the distance and place the Disk in the receptacle to your left to disable the red beams at the entrance. Walk, don’t run, into the room, vault onto the crate to your left for a small medipack and shoot the nearby guard hiding behind the adjacent crate. Be sure not to target and shoot the sentry gun posted on the ceiling, or it will activate and fire at you. Approach the green laser beams and carefully take standing jumps over them onto those sections of the crossbeams that aren’t electrified (flashing lights). The last crossbeam requires a tricky angled running jump with a left curve, so save before attempting it. When you get there, take two steps back from the edge, then stand jump over the green laser to grab the opening. Pull into the alcove with a wall switch that opens a nearby door.

You now have to navigate those treacherous green lasers and crossbeams once again to get back across, so save before embarking upon the return trip. When you get back, turn right where the door opened and Lara will look up at an inaccessible wall switch. Go around the crates for uzi ammo and find the wooden pushblock. Move it two times past the entrance to rest against another and lighter pushblock. Get up and move the higher pushblock onto the lower pushblock. Get down and move the blue pushblock onto the spot formerly occupied by the wooden pushblock. Move the lighter pushblock between the two lower pushblocks to form a bridge. Move the upper pushblock onto the blue pushblock. Move the two free lower pushblocks to form a bridge with the blue pushblock. Pull the upper pushblock one time to the middle of the bridge. Get down and move the free pushblock at the end of the bridge two time around the middle pushblock. Move the blue pushblock two times against the middle pushblock. Get up onto the blue pushblock and push the upper pushblock against the wall. Get down and move the middle pushblock three times against the same wall and toward the corner alcove. Move the blue pushblock three times against the wall to form a bridge. Finally, move the upper pushblock under the wall switch so you can pull it down to open a nearby door and release a guard.    

Pick up the dropped shotgun ammo and exit to the larger room. The opened door is at the near corner, so enter a control room to find the HIGH-LEVEL KEYCARD on a corner crate (cut scene). Exit at either end to the hallway, continue around the perimeter to find a bathroom containing flares and a cafeteria with a posted guard who drops the SURVEILLANCE ROOM KEYCARD. Continue along the outer hallway until you reach an opening that leads to a covered bridge spanning the outdoor area. Use your High-Level Keycard at the other end to open the door to a large laser-protected missile silo. There are guards scattered throughout, but be careful not to target and shoot (and thereby activate) any of the sentry guns posted near the ceiling. The sentry guns will also awaken if you touch any part of the green laser beams. Try to take down at least one of the guards perched across the room before proceeding. Turn left at the entrance, jump up to grab the corner ledge, pull up and turn right. Take a running jump to grab the next ledge, pull up and turn right again. Take a running jump to the central platform and hop over the green laser for uzi ammo.

Turn left and take a running jump to grab the ledge occupied by the slain guard. Pick up the dropped shotgun ammo and jump over the green laser. Hop to the corner ledge and pull down the wall switch to raise a platform over the entrance to this room. Drop to the floor, go across the room and pull up onto the first corner ledge near the entrance. Turn around and jump up to grab the raised platform. Pull up and run forward to take care of the guard posted at the other corner. Climb the nearby block and pull up to the top ledges to engage a third guard. Explore the perimeter for a large medipack and find the wall switch that raises another platform in this room. Get back down to the first corner ledge near the entrance. Jump to the next ledge and from there to the central platform. Jump back to the ledge occupied by the dead guard and find the second raised platform to your right. Jump up to grab it, pull up and step forward to a wall switch that raises one of the missiles in the silo to get it out of your way. Get down to the floor, use the corner platform near the entrance and the raised platform above it to reach the block where you killed the second guard. Go around the block. With the missile having been lifted, you can now drop next to the block past a lowered platform onto a lower ledge after noting the wall switch on the back side of the block. Hop to the nearby corner ledge and save your game in front of the timed button.

Pushing the button raises the platform under the wall switch on the block. To get there, turn right, hop over the railing onto the floor, run to the cover ledge and return to the block the same way you did before (save again while pulling up onto the corner ledge). Loop left around the block and pull down the wall switch before the timed platform drops back down. A glass cover is lifted from the wall switch at the upper ledge area, so get back up there via the same block and pull down the switch to launch a rocket. A door also opens in the far wall below to release a dog and two guards. Get down to the floor and into the passage past the opened door. You’ll come to the rocket bay, so grab the uzi ammo to your right and drop down past the opened trap door. Push the button to open the door to a control room, shoot the guard and enter to find MP5 ammo and the YELLOW FUSE. Pull back out and exit to the connecting bridge. On your way back across you’ll trigger a trap door and fall down into the outdoor courtyard, so save your game and beef up your health now if you want the next secret. Walk up to the edge of the darker trigger tiles and hop back. Stand right and take a running jump angled to your left so you won’t stumble upon landing. Immediately start sprinting left past the parked truck and timed gate into the next area for SECRET #5. This is likely to require a number of attempts, so save immediately after successfully getting through.

Draw a powerful weapon while turning around to kill the lone guard in this section. A snake is hiding in a nearby bush. You can then search this area at your leisure to collect shotgun ammo, a small medipack and MP5 ammo on the crates. When you’re ready for more battle, pull down the wall switch and push it back up to open the timed gates and unleash three guards and two dogs. Return to the larger area and search the crates for uzi ammo and desert eagle ammo. Exit to the hallway and turn right into a storage room. Shoot the guard, pick up the dropped MP5 ammo and locate the grate high up in the back left corner. Get up onto the nearby crates and jump up while firing your pistols to shatter the grate. Hop down and move the wooden pushblock under the grate so you can jump up and pull inside the duct. Crawl around until you can stand up and follow to a wall switch that lifts a grate you can see through the glass window to your right. Return to the storage room and run across to the other side to find another high grate you can shoot. Stand jump from an adjacent crate to grab the opening and pull into the crawl space. Crawl around the corner and you’ll come to the lifted grate you saw from the other side.

Follow the passage around the corner to a timed wall switch and save your game. Pull the switch down, reverse roll and return to the crawl space. Save time by rolling several times through the duct, drop down the other side, reverse roll and exit left to the hallway, sprint past the intersection and turn left into the open area, angle right and continue through the opening ahead and past the timed door down the steps into a control room where two guards are waiting. Pick up the dropped MP5 ammo, climb onto the central computer for uzi ammo and squeeze behind the screen near the back left corner to find a pushblock. Push it three times to reveal a side passage that takes you to a small aquarium for SECRET #6. Shoot the guard and search the room for a small medipack, uzi ammo and shotgun ammo, exit to the control room and go through the passage to the right (as you entered) of the entrance steps. Enter a room with activated conveyor belts, shoot the guard and climb onto the blue crate for a small medipack. Save your game in front of the conveyor belt to the left (as you entered) of the entrance.

Allow the conveyor belt to carry you along around corners and remain vigilant to jump as necessary to avoid lasers, grappling hooks and deadly tiles. You would be wise to save in separate slots as you progress. You will eventually jump over a final deadly tile to land inside an alcove with a wall switch that brings a crate down into the room where the conveyor belts meet. Save your game, turn around and hop left onto the conveyor belt, avoiding similar hazards as you did earlier. When you have returned safely to the previous room, save again to avoid having to repeat this ordeal, climb onto the crate and take a running jump to grab the crawl space in the far wall. Pull inside and follow to a small room with a wall switch that raises two platforms in a previous control room. Return via the crawl space, exit to the control room and continue across through the opening in the opposite wall. Continue to an opening and climb down the ladder to a bare room and climb the ladder in the adjacent wall. Shoot the waiting guard and jump into the nearby pool. Swim down for shotgun ammo and find an opening that leads to an underwater lever that opens one of the doors behind you.

Swim through and surface at the air hole. Pull out at the next junction, shoot a rat and pull down the wall switch to drain the passage. Hop down, go forward and take the first right to a drained pool where a rat is waiting. Climb the ladder, jump into the pool and save your game before swimming into the opening on your left. Be careful of the strong current, take two left turns in front of fans (the second turn is quite difficult), turn right at the wall and fight the current until you can surface and pull out left. Hop down into a lower passage and come to a pushblock. Push it once, return and pull up to the higher passage. Save your game, jump into the water and swim toward the spinning fan. Turn left in front of it, take the next right and fight the current to the wall, turn right again and then left at the wall to return to the pool. Surface, pull out where the crates are and go over to the drained pool. Climb down the ladder and go through the opposite opening. Turn right and follow around to the pushblock. Push it to reveal a side passage, but keep pushing it as far as it will go. Go all the way back around the perimeter clockwise and you’ll come to the pushblock from another side.

Get up onto the pushblock, pull up left into a dark room and find a wall switch that opens a door above the drained pool. Get down, hop down to the passage and pull up right at the next corner into a previously visited room. Pull the wall switch there back up to flood the passage once more, jump into the water, take the first right and pull out of the pool at the back corner where the door opened. Enter a small room and pull down the wall switch to raise two more platforms in a previous control room. Jump back into the pool, pull out at the other side and climb down into the drained pool. Climb up the adjacent ladder, return to the control room. The raised platforms are against the left wall. Use either pair to get up to a crawl space in the wall. Crawl to the end for another YELLOW FUSE, return, slide down right or left onto a platform and drop to the floor. Exit via the passage on the other side of the room, go up the steps to the hallway and loop around right to the ladder you used earlier. Climb to the upper hallways and go down the hallway away from the cafeteria and turn left into the small bathroom where you found the flares.

Shoot the grate in the back corner, light a flare, enter the crawl space and crawl to the fan where you can stand up. Turn right, slide down toward another fan and jump to grab the connecting crawl space. Pull inside, turn right and crawl past a ceiling hole toward the far wall. Wait for the moving laser to go by right, crawl in left and stand up. Slide down toward another fan, jump to grab the opening and pull inside. Crawl around the corner and stand up in front of a yellow laser beam. Crawl underneath it, pull down the wall switch to turn off the stove in a kitchen elsewhere, go left to the wall and pull up into a higher crawl space. Drop down the ceiling hole at the other end you crawled past earlier. Turn left and crawl toward the moving laser you may have already noted. Get close, and when it starts moving away from you, crawl left and enter the kitchen you saw in the cut scene. Shoot two aggressive cooks and exit through the adjacent passage.

Loop around right in the next room and push the button for two brief cut scenes. Grab the MP5 ammo and continue to an automatic door that brings you back to the cafeteria. Exit to the hallway and go straight ahead past the armory and around the corner to the first sleeping area on your right. Hop onto the table and jump up to shoot the grate in the far wall. Take a running jump to grab the crawl space, pull inside and go around to the disabled fan you saw in the cut scene. Jump up to grab the opening and pull up to a higher duct. Run down the ramp to a lower crawl space, get inside and shoot the grate. Lower Lara down into a new sleeping area where you’ll find the SHOOTING RANGE KEYCARD on a lower bunk. Push the button to open the exit door, turn left in the hallway and loop around to the armory. Insert the Shooting Range Keycard in the receptacle opposite the door, reverse roll and enter the armory. Shoot the guard inside and pick up the dropped small medipack. Check the alcoves on this side of the room for shotgun ammo, then push the button at the far end to lift a grate in the middle alcove on the other side of the room. Use your pistols to shoot the targets though the opening to lift the grate in the alcove to your left, shoot the target there to lift another grate and repeat until all five targets have been shot. A door opens opposite the button alcove, so enter a room filled with crates and find a BLUE FUSE on the middle one.

Push the wall button to set off an alarm and summon a dog and a guard. Exit to the hallway, turn right and follow to the ladder hole near the corner. Climb down to the lower hallway, reverse roll and run toward the closed gates. Turn left into the outdoor area and go through the opening on your right. Turn left in the hallway, go to the intersection and turn right to find a receptacle for the Surveillance Room Keycard on your left. Go past the lifted door into a control room, shoot the guard inside and push the button in the far wall after picking up 2 x uzi ammo on either side. A door opens in the hallway, so exit the control room, turn right and then left at the intersection and continue to the connecting Bay A hallway where the door opened. Enter Bay E and turn left into the side room where Lara looks at a sign saying “no weapons.” There are exceptions to every rule, so find the tile marked with a circle, stand on it and shoot the grate in the far wall. If you were standing anywhere else, lasers crisscrossing the room would have been activated. Holster your pistols, enter the next area, look left to find a similar marked tile and stand on it to shoot the nearby corner grate to reveal a wall switch.

Go to the next marked tile across the room, sidestep to the back left corner and shoot the grate at the end of the passage to reveal a second wall switch. Go across the room to a third marked tile, note the closed door in the corner, stand at the front left corner and look for a grate you can barely see between the two Bay E logos. You’d better save before trying to shoot it, as you need to be perfectly positioned to hear it shatter. When you’ve done this, go across to collect the small medipack between the logos, then pull down all three wall switches in no particular order to open the door at the back right corner of this room. Enter the next room for another shooting exercise.

First, locate the marked corner tile with the shotgun ammo. Stand at the left front corner and stoop while firing your pistols to shatter the grate in the corner alcove across the room. Again, you need to be perfectly positioned in order to be successful. Next, go across the room and hop over the triangular barrier into the alcove with another marked tile. Face across the room and shoot the grate in the opposite corner. Not too difficult. Finally, turn to face the grate in the adjacent alcove and jump up and down while firing to shatter it. When done, pull down all three wall switches to open the closed door in this room. Enter the passage and go around the corner into a control room and engage a guard. Grab the desert eagle ammo and another BLUE FUSE on the crates, When you pick up the latter an alarm goes off and a door opens to admit a dog and a guard. Go where they came from and turn right in the hallway.

Turn left at the corner and run all the way into the control room at the end of the hallway. Place all four fuses to create a topographical change in the outside area. Exit to the hallway, turn right and run past the intersection. Turn left into the open area, safety drop into the newly-created central pit and go through the opening on the other side to finish the level.

Level 3: LABORATORIES

Run down the steps, pick up the flares on your right and the MP5 ammo on your left, note two shootable grates and shoot the one in the right wall. Pull inside the duct and crawl around the corner to face a moving laser. You’ll be okay if you continue to crawl until you reach a floor hole. When the laser moves away, stand up and walk to the very edge, stoop and wait for the laser to cycle once more. Stand and jump up to grab the ceiling and monkey swing across the pit. Drop on the other side and stoop to avoid another moving laser. Crawl to a wall button and push it for a cut scene of the closed doors in the previous room. Return there, shoot the other grate and pull into the duct. Crawl around the corner and face a slightly different scenario. Wait for the moving laser to go by left and crawl slightly right into the adjacent duct beside the stationary beam. Continue past another moving laser, loop around right and wait for the moving laser to move by right. Crawl left to a button that opens the doors in the previous room. Return there the same way you came and go past the opened doors into a hub control room.

Shoot two guards and loop around right past the second guard to a wall switch that opens a nearby door. Reverse roll, run down the hallway and turn right past the opened door. Turn right past the only open doorway and shoot the guard in the control room. Grab the shotgun ammo, locate the pushblock and pull it away from a button that opens a door elsewhere. Exit this room, return to the hub room and hop onto the central slab for uzi ammo. Continue forward toward the opened door, shoot a guard on the way and check the ends of the hallway for a small medipack and shotgun ammo. Enter the large room ahead to trigger a door explosion that releases an alien. Do nothing and the friendly alien will kill the posted guard. Enter his room and shoot the grate in the back corner. Enter, shoot another grate at the end and come to a room where an alien cadaver is being stored. Shoot the grate up in the wall, pull inside and crawl through the duct to a connecting passage with a moving laser.

When the laser moves by right, crawl in left and roll several times to a wall switch that opens a door in a previous area. Return the same way and find the opened door to your right in the hallway. Loop around right into a side room and note the glass-covered wall switch. Hop onto the corner crate for uzi ammo and exit. Continue down the hall and approach the next room on your left. If the freed alien is in the vicinity, he’ll go in first and take out the guard posted inside. Otherwise, you’ll have to go in and kill him yourself. Pick up the dropped shotgun ammo and note the clue at the back right corner. Pull down the wall switch at the entrance to open the next door in the hallway. Enter a room with many wall switches. Pick up the large medipack in the corner and remember the clue from the previous room (which I found to be a bit counter-intuitive). On the right side as you enter the room, pull down the two switches furthest from (not closest to, as you might expect) the entrance. On the left side, pull down the first and third switches. A floor trap door drops in the previous side room (the one with the clue), so return there and save your game before dropping down into the water hole.

Swim toward the spinning fan and fight the current to turn right into the side passage. Continue past two thumpers and turn right in front of the timed underwater lever. Swim up to an air hole at the wall, then continue to the end of the passage for desert eagle ammo and uzi ammo (on the other side of the alien). Return to the air hole and save your game before pulling the underwater lever. Flip turn, swim past the thumpers and fight the current to keep going straight at the intersection (save in a different slot when you get through) past two more thumpers, turn left at the wall past the timed door and swim up to an air hole. Enter the side passage and follow to another underwater lever that lifts the glass cover you noted earlier. Return to the air hole, save again and swim down past the two thumpers and take an immediate right to fight the current back to the shaft leading to the previous room. Pull out of the water hole, exit to the hallway and go across into the side room to your right. Pull down the exposed wall switch to lift two doors in the hub room and prepare for a battle royal. If you’ve been conserving your desert eagle ammo, now is a good time to put that weapon to use. Await the arrival of a guard (possibly being pursued by the friendly alien), kill him (without targeting the alien) and proceed to the hub room, where the friendly alien may have returned and taken care of at least one of the two other guards before also being killed. An alarm will go off, but you can get some temporary relief by going back into the previous hallway and looking left in the first side room for shotgun ammo in the alcove in the back wall. Return to the hub room, continue straight across into the connecting hallway and enter the side room on your left. Vault onto the table with the alien cadaver and jump to grab the crawl space in a ceiling hole.

Crawl along the duct to a floor hole (the alarm stops as you approach it), drop down into a control room, back flip while drawing your desert eagle and shoot the waiting guard. Grab the large medipack on the corner block and push the wall button to open the exit door. Step out into the hallway, turn left and go down the steps into a large control room criss-crossed with green laser beams. Shoot two lower guards from the protection of the entrance passage, but there are more guards posted in the upper regions, as well as sentry guns that you must not target and shoot (or activate by touching one of the green laser beams). You can find uzi ammo and shotgun ammo on the two side ledges. If you’re patient, you can kill most if not all of the remaining guards from down below by positioning yourself properly. When you’ve done that, find the column ladder against the left wall (as you enter this room), climb up and back flip onto a metal ledge. Go to the corner where there’s a gap in the railing and take a running jump to grab the jutting ledge. Pull up, jump to grab the wall ladder between the columns and climb higher. Back flip onto a ledge and shoot the remaining guard posted halfway across the room if necessary.

Take a running jump to grab the next jutting ledge, pull up and take a running jump curving left with grab to land inside the alcove in the adjacent wall. Pick up the small medipack, save your game and take a walking/running jump out of the alcove, curving left to grab (or land on) the ledge occupied by the dead soldier. Pull up if necessary and step over the body into the alcove with a timed button. Save again, push the button to raise a timed platform on the other side of the room and retrace your steps the same way you got here. When you reach the timed platform to the left of the column ladder, hop onto it at an angle and side flip left onto the upper jutting ledge. Save again when you get there. Take a running jump and grab to the next jutting ledge, a running jump to the corner ledge and a standing jump to the upper control room. Grab the MP5 ammo near the slain guard, pull down the wall switch to lower a trap door under the vessel down below. Retrace your steps to the column ladder, jump to grab it and climb to the floor. Crawl under the green laser beams and pull up into the vessel past the lowered trap door.

There are two ceiling holes. Pull up through either one and shoot the posted guard. Pick up the small medipack and find MP5 ammo on one of the blocks. There are two wall ladders on opposite walls of this surreal room. Locate the wall switch near one of the floor holes and pull it down to open trap doors above both ladders. Climb either one and shoot the guard in the room above. Note the hourglass on the central mound surrounded by four chairs and a closed door beyond each one. Save your game and position Lara by facing the central triangle with the blue dot so that the hourgrass is on her right and just beyond the blue dot. Run over the triangle to open the door ahead and stop just after entering the next room. The door will slam shut behind you. If there’s any rhyme or reason as to what follows, it escapes me. Step on the corner tile to your right, angle left and take a walking/running jump onto the middle tile against the other wall, turn to your right and stand jump onto the next-to-last tile in the middle row. The exit door opens, so return to the previous room and run across the blue dot triangle to open the door in the opposite wall. Run there and stop at the entrance tile as before.

The clues are apparently the blue dots in the ceiling (which doesn’t help much), so stand jump left onto the first tile against the glass panel, turn right and run onto the adjacent tile, stand jump onto the middle tile against the far wall, turn to your right and stand jump onto the first tile against the glass panel, turn right and take a walking/running jump onto the first tile you jumped onto in this room. The exit door opens, as well as a door elsewhere. Exit and go to the opened door in the wall to your right. Enter the next room, shoot the guard, collect the uzi ammo on the block and pull down the wall switch to open the final door across this room. Go there, shoot the guard in the control room and pick up the RESTRICTED AREA KEYCARD in the back left corner.

Drop down the floor holes and return to the control room. Crawl under the green laser beams and exit the control room up the steps, through the hallways and take a right when you reach the hub room. Place the Restricted Area Keycard to lift the doors to your left, enter the short passage and climb to an upper hallway as the doors slam shut behind you. Grab the large medipack and uzi ammo, push both wall buttons to lift the next pair of doors and proceed down the hallway to a deep floor hole. Save your game, beef up your health if necessary and ready a powerful weapon for a grueling boss fight. Hang from the edge, drop onto a slope, take a rolling back flip, drop onto a lower slope, slide ever so slightly and jump over the deadly goo to grab a platform while taking enemy fire from all directions. Save again while pulling up, draw your weapon and concentrate your gunfire on the central boss while avoiding his deadly firebolts. When he dies and explodes to leave behind the ALIEN ARTIFACT, deal with the four guards roaming about the platform as well as the two guards posted on the upper balcony (without targeting and shooting the corner sentry guns).

Platforms have been raised to provide a bridge over the deadly goo. Use them to approach the far wall, jump to grab one of the ladders and climb up to the balcony. There are two wall switches, one at either end, that lift the doors next to the raised platforms. Climb back down, shift right or left as appropriate and drop onto the raised platform. Go past the lifted doors and climb up either ladder a long distance to a room with crates. Go around to the back left window and fire a shot to attract the attention of the guard in the next room. He’ll open the door to engage you, so meet him with a hail of bullets. Enter a control room and loop around left to find a wall switch that lifts the doors across the room. Exit to an outdoor area, shoot a dog and a guard, pick up the dropped HELIPAD KEYCARD and place it in the receptacle on the nearby fence. The gate opens, so go on through and wait for the hovering helicopter to land before approaching it to finish the level and the game.
