Reviewer's comments
"This garners a 2 in gameplay not for the eponymous dudes, who are badly placed and therefore boring, but for the room with the unexpected death slide and the tall pillars, in which you have to pause momentarily to consider how to get to the place which (as it turns out) harbours the grenade gun and then down to the floor without getting Lara killed. Otherwise the room geometry is simplistic and the layout maze-like, providing no incentive for you to go back and explore the part that you skipped at the last intersection. The texturing is bad, but at least some effort has been expended on lighting. The game doesn’t raise the stakes as you progress, as Orbit Dream points out—quite the contrary. For this reason I sadly didn’t get to see some dudes join Lara on the monkeyswing (an ability of theirs that they hardly ever get to make use of in custom levels), as by then she could simply pop them off with the revolver. Not a lot to recommend, then, but also no major irritations." - Mulf (10-Feb-2021)
"This sure feels like the author was "winging it", as most of the rooms are pretty square and flat, seemingly auto-textured, and all you really do is run and gun. Most doors open upon approach and there were a handful issues with room design in general. For the completionists only. 15 minutes, 1 secret. 01/21" - Treeble (01-Feb-2021)
"You'll not be pausing for breath (or indeed thought) in this brief ninja elimination exercise. There are no puzzles as such, stretched textures, overly dark (though the colouring was nice) lighting and a couple of mazes, which I didn't enjoy. Though if you want something simple, here you go." - Ryan (18-Dec-2016)
"Frenzy passed. Ninjas killed: 28. They are well placed enemies. All of them but the two in the grenade gun maze. We find some hidden weapon depots throughout the game. Good lighting and sound, but that's all I can appreciate. Generally, the level is too large. It starts to be boring after killing first 10 baddies. From that moment, you can't wait for the end of the game, and you are not even after the first half. SUMMARY: Tiring. Not recommended." - DJ Full (26-Oct-2010)
"I cite the Readme: "Story: Kill all Red Ninja dudes". Citation ends. And with it everything would be already said. One runs through more or less nicely built rooms with more or less nice textures, shoots on everything what moves, collects everything what is not nailed down and is after about 20 minutes at the level end. One finds here really all weapons from the Tomb Raider universe. Indeed, one does not need them, actually, at all. I have used, in any case, only my pistols. Of course the level gets no beauty price, but he also does not have to do this, because this is a pure shooting level. If you want to blow off steam, than you are exactly right here" - Scottie (29-May-2009)
"Having seen Scottie give this one a go,I thought I'd follow.I consequently braced myself for a frustrating and pointless raid in a horrible environment (think:Edward Orhue's 'Section 13'),but I was actually rather pleasently surprised. The texturing is occasionally sloppy, but the dark and creepy lighting helps to create atmosphere and obscure whatever faults there may be.As far as enemies are concerned, the eponymous Dudes aren't quite as copious as I expected;and are somewhat poorly triggered, frequently materialising out of thin air;but, get this...they joined me on a monkeyswing and actually tried to throw me off! It may have been completely unintentional on the part of the builder, but I found it funny and effective.Elsewhere, there's an amusing sequence where black scorpions do a beetle impersonation and pour from the ceiling just as Lara is about to pass underneath.Your defense arsenal is massively increased as the adventure progresses, ensuring that each succesive attack is less potentially deadly than the one before;and it all comes to an end before your blood-lust has been fully satiated. However, there's an object to your quest;so it doesn't all seem quite as futile as perhaps expected. For those in the mood for a strightforward and mindless Shooter, this is good unpretentious fun." - Orbit Dream (29-May-2009)
"Basically, in this level you just have to run around a series of mostly bare rooms shooting either ninjas, scorpions or crocodiles. There are a few other weapons to do this with, but it is still extremely boring most of the time. There is a small amount of swimming and climbing to do, but nothing that saves the gameplay from being so poor. Texturing is repetitive, lighting is either way too dark or way too colourful, and the secret that I found couldn't be more easy to find...considering that I had to pass by it in order to finish the level. A poor quality level, that has pretty much nothing going for it." - Spike (29-Jul-2007)
"Now maybe if the title were Red Dingy Nudes I may have found some saving grace to this level, but alas it isn't named that and so I found no saving grace. The progression is made up of purely kill ninjas and moving from room to room, with a little maze action thrown in for not so good measure. I really don't know what kind of player this would appeal to but it didn't appeal to me one bit." - Sash (01-Nov-2005)
"A level in which you can't do anything except killing ninjas and crocodiles. Good for a first try, but there are some bugs as many areas are not correctly visible due to large rooms; doors open wrongly; stretched textures etc. But anyway it's good for a 1st try and I hope that warhead and fiery1 do better next time." - Anurag (24-Jul-2005)
This is the poor version of Ninja Academy. Somebody have fun only taking pick ups and killing ninjas along the corridors? Architecture is very, very simple, only squares and rectangles; very elongated and bad applied textures; no puzzles; wafer thin walls; go to places, find nothing and have to get back; outside ceilings too many low; only two or three kind of enemies,... After 15 or 20 minutes I had to abandon the game. Very, very, very bored. What a nightmare! And the author wanna build another version? Oh, no, don't torture us anymore! - Jose (05-Jul-2005)
It's a fifteen minutes level with many ninjas, scorpions and a few crocodiles to shoot, with the appropriate weapons given though. Unfortunately the textures are very bad and the rooms are big and empty. There is one secret, the Amulet and I can't say this is a fun level. - Kristina (27-Jun-2005)
It is a first and like most of them, there are beginner mistakes. It is in general a straight forward level as you can end it pretty quick if you run in the right direction and don't come back to have a look in other openings. As the title states, kill the red ninja's and that is what you do. The Ankh is a secret. 07-06-2005 - Gerty (20-Jun-2005)
"Well, the title does describe this level. Lara runs back and forth through acres of emptiness, just so that Ninjas can suddenly appear and start shooting. Sorry I can't say anything better than that." - Duncan (18-Jun-2005)
"Well, what can I say? It's a very obvious first time build - a series of rather blank rooms inexpertly joined together with pickups and ninjas along the way. It didn't even work as a shooter, given the amount of weaponry available. The highlight was finding a secret (an ankh), which just about says it all. I'm sorry to be so negative, but honestly the whole thing just seemed a mess." - Jay (14-Jun-2005)
"A quickie of 15 or 20 minutes with not much to do except for some jumping, swimming and killing. In spite of many mistakes in the design, it was a rather enjoyable, although not essential, level." - eRIC (13-Jun-2005)
"A strange level... it was very short and very easy. Not much to do except running through new rooms and picking up tons of ammo and health packs. What I did like though was the layout of the rooms and the lighting. I hope for more levels from this author cause he has the potential for making them much better. 2005-06-11" - QRS (12-Jun-2005)
"Well this was fun. No really - it might be because it's been such a long time since I've touched a TR custom level, but I really enjoyed this short level that's actually a crime against nearly everything that good gaming is supposed to be. The texturing and lighting are careless, there is no plot what so ever, the placement of secrets, enemies, objects and weapons is aimless - serves no purpose (though maybe you can argue about the placement of some enemies), you get most weapons when the party's already over, the whole area is mazelike and you feel like you still haven't done loads of things when the level ends abruptly after a massive ninja versus Lara battle. Yet it was enjoyable in its own kind of way. Not too shabby if it's your goal to play every level out there, others might not find it such a worthy effort." - eTux (09-Jun-2005)
"Only recently discovered on the net by Torry, this is a beginner's effort from early 2004 and it has all the usual mistakes. You spend 30 minutes running around mazelike empty square rooms in Karnak setting and kill as the title implies about two dozen red ninjas plus a few scorpions and crocs and in the end you find and Ankh (as a secret) and the level ends abruptly. The occasional fire trap was maybe a bit of a highlight. Other than that, not sure I would recommend it." - Michael (07-Jun-2005)
