Reviewer's comments
"The quality of the recently released TR1 offerings has been promisingly high, and hopefully we'll see this trend continue. This is another quite lengthy offering that performs well in all categories. The gameplay is on the challenging side, to be sure, but all raiders with a bit of experience should be able to get through with minimal frustration. Perhaps the sequence in the beginning level with the bird tile symbols could have been a bit less obscure, but otherwise everything tends to flow rather nicely. There's plenty of exploration in some rather spacious areas, the odd block puzzle here and there, moderately challenging traps (the sequence in the third level with the breakable floors and boulders was brilliantly executed) and plenty of timed sequences. Enemies are reasonably spaced throughout the game (alongside adequate supplies and weaponry) and provide for some engaging combat. The environments are well crafted too, with some impressive looking areas and pleasing textures. Lighting is a bit dim in places, although nothing too bad. Recommended." - Ryan (03-Apr-2024)
"I've really enjoyed this levels. Of course, not for beginners but it notices the very good effort, specially with the architecture and texturization. As usual, I missed some puzzles to solve, but the gameplay is entertaining anyway and I only got "stucked" with some tricky taks and jumps in the third level. I missed some more extra guns too, but there are no much enemies to shoot and the ammo for the automatic pistols and the shotgun was enough so you don't need to use the pistols many times; the secrets are not very hard to find if you carefully explore the areas. Really a solid and interesting levels to take a good time for all the TR1 lovers. Good work, Joel!" - Jose (02-Apr-2024)
"This is a substantial TR1 level set that borders on challenging which becomes very frustrating at times. The first level is relatively simple in design but had me running around for hours until I finally discerned that those black smudges on the floor and on top of the bookcases were actually shadows of crows that you had to stand on to open a door that you MUST open to be able to proceed. Some clue earlier on would have been helpful. Even when I arrived at the door and saw the crow plaque with the number 5 on it, it did not register that those black smudges were supposed to represent crows. In fairness the shadows on the bookcases were much better defined than the ones on the floor. The second level was much tougher but HOW is the raider to discern that you must jump through the waterfalls? Not only jump through them but jump through in the right spot and again, this was required for the raider to be able to proceed further and no clues were provided. This is akin to the unmarked climb-ables in some levels that are downright mean level design. Level 3 is much harder than the first two with a tight timed run and a masochistic run over collapsible tiles with falling boulders as well that hovered over a huge lava pit. Both had me reloading time and time again. You then proceed into a generous amount of platforming in and around the lava chambers which was fun. You then end up at the very start of the level to find the quartz talisman and exit with an infuriating and lengthy swim through an underwater chamber to exit the level." - Torry (09-Dec-2023)
"I feel sad cause this release wont get so much attention and comments as it would in previous years due to more inactive raiders these days . otherwise surely it would join hall of fame . I have played a lot and all kind of trle , for sure i will remember this release . you think that only with tr4 mechanics , you can make a good level , guess what ? no it is as purely good and classic and not boring gameplay as it gets . All 3 levels are so well designed and beautiful and adventurous with well hidden secrets , what else do you want? Personally i dont care about textures or lighting , or i cant tell big differences . So gameplay and difficulty is what im looking for . No major bugs or softlocks . I love good tr themes and osts when playing trle and also i really enjoy when ost doesnt stop when i pause or if i die ingame . If i had to wish something here , it would be to experience more and tighter time-runs and more difficult jumps . Also the 'waterfall interactions' were savage , couldnt imagine them in a tr1 level . the 5 raven puzzle was out of the box for me ,so good . and last, a lever inside a water greenish area couldnt notice what it did or the painting secret when or how did it open .. Joel you're a beast" - Petaludas (29-Oct-2023)
"Bugs/Functional Issues
  • In the third level, Lara backtracks by flooding a chamber using a block. However if she returns here the chamber might be unflooded again, preventing her escape.
Disliked
  • There can be a fair amount of backtracking in the second and third levels. It's not terribly difficult to get around, but the sprawling layout can make it easy to forget where to return to.
Liked
  • Architecturally well put together, with large ruins for Lara to explore. The areas are tall but they are not just vertical for the sake of being vertical.
  • A few nice puzzles here, having Lara search for symbols on the ground or figuring out which order to pull timed switches for an ascent.
  • Falling platforms, boulders, spikes and lava serve as fun obstacles for Lara to overcome.
  • Combat pits Lara against a nice variety of beasts from wolves to raptors.
