Reviewer's comments
"This wasn't that bad actually. It's short and linear. Texturization isn't that bad either, and lighting is used well too. Except that there were a lot of dark areas and I could have used some flares. There are spikes that scare the hell out of you and it's a matter of trial and error because there's no way to identify where they are. Some rolling balls weren't triggered, it would have been a bit more challenging if they did. There was a bug with some doors because Lara was able to walk through them, but you shouldn't celebrate because behind those doors there's yet another closed one that can't be trespassed. Anyway, it's good for the time it lasts." - alan (16-Jan-2020)
"A short level (about 15 minutes) with some traps but no enemies. Bad animation of the door to open with the crowbar. Many textures stretched or mis-posed. I think the script was fixed because I did not have a crash at the end and there was a load camera, which is nicer." - Drakan (24-Nov-2018)
"Brief, fast paced Catacomb raiding. There's absolutely nothing really challenging in terms of gameplay (that's if you're wary of the unmarked spike traps), a lone mummy as an enemy and a strict linearity for the 15 minutes it lasts, but it's not badly done for what it is and might be good for a quick bit of raiding and nothing too strenuous." - Ryan (19-Jul-2018)
"Short catacomb level, but nice to play. Not difficult tasks with a lineal gameplay, the author doesn't let you advance without the items you need. Of course, there are some defects like the wrong animations (crowbar door or the pickups from low pedestals), the unmarked spiked traps or even a not triggered spiked ball in the room with the head, but the level is fairly enjoyable. Based only about avoiding traps and pull some floor levers, no enemies to shoot, no secrets to find; the best was the good care with the texturization and lighting, with a lot of shadows in proper places (I missed some flare pickups). Not a great level but worth to play anyway." - Jose (14-Dec-2017)
"Catacombs of Sri Lanka 3.2.5.6 Twenty minutes of classic catacomb. Easy, enemy-free gameplay. Nothing much to fire the blood, but it might be a good little level for a newbie to get some practise with. Reasonably well built too." - Jay (07-Jun-2016)
"Here is what I call a good small level to start with Lara Croft, the gameplay is very easy on the whole although some bad surprises can be surprising. Some animations would ask to be disposed. On the whole the decoration of the whole is clean and well-manicured. A token, but short instant to be crossed. I can say that it is of the great work made by the author." - Daffy (26-Jul-2009)
"Very nice looking catacombs level. There are texture issues but overall it looks ok. Even though I've just finished it I think there was only one mummy to deal with and no other enemies in the level at all. We're searching for blue gems and a guardian head and stand. It's very easy to find you way through this. There's some swimming a very long climb up bit of jumping and boulder and spike dodging with numerous floor levers in between. Lara's actions are not right with the crowbar. It's a short easy level to play in nice looking surroundings." - CC (13-Aug-2004)
"A classical 20 minute Catacomb level with very straightforward gameplay and a number of spike traps which you cannot anticipate in any way. Apart from that there are a few other design bugs such as Lara using wrong animations at pickups the missing load screen stretched textures to name a few." - Michael "If it weren't for the lack of a loading screen this would be a nice little quickie. There's absolutely nothing here that hasn't been seen before and some of the texturing will make seasoned players wince; but it's simple fast and efficient and rather fun regardless." - Orbit Dream (12-Aug-2003)
"Thank God this level lasts less than 15 minutes! Every time you die you're thrown back to your desktop and what really pissed me off was the fact there were a lot of random traps - boulders falling from nowhere to kill you spikes popping out of the floor without any warning killing you - and I decided to remove some points on the gameplay part. The objects were somewhat problematic (you see them from one side but from the other you don't) and there was only a mummy IIRC. Talking about objects there are some doors in the top of the pit you can walk through and guess what - you die." - Treeble (10-Jan-2003)
"---sorry --- review text got lost ----" - Jbc21 "Here we go again no loading screen. I am really getting tired of this and what makes it more frustrating is the traps how can you not reload several times with spike traps and jumps from platform to platform which go downside by the way. The textures are catacomb like with some wrong tiles being put on the floor I guess they slipped. Gems a music scroll and the portal guardian are the puzzles here. I am writing this and the only thing that comes to mind is that missing load screen and the trouble it caused me. You better save yourself from this torture." - Kristina (23-Dec-2002)
"The most memorable aspects about this standard catacomb adventure are that it has neither enemies pick ups nor a load screen. I can live without the first two but the missing loadscreen becomes a serious pain in the ass during the second half when you run into some pop up spikes and are flattened by the occasional spiked boulder. Otherwise it's a fairly uneventful run through a solidly textured setting with a long climb some swimming and quite a bit of lever pushing. The crowbar is hard to miss though and I enjoyed jumping down the big room at the start." - Dimpfelmoser (01-Nov-2002)
"The missing loading screen was a major bummer as there are traps that will kill Lara so you will be sent to your desktop every time. Apart from that this was a nice and easy level. I liked the way you had to get down to the ground floor and the easy way you get up there again. Finding first the scroll then some blue gems and the Hathor effigy will show you the way to finish this level. There is one very lost mummy almost felt sorry for him. No puzzles as such but spikes coming up out of nowhere they always make me jump in my chair. Some boulders but those are easily avoided. 02-09-2002" - Gerty (03-Sep-2002)
"With the classic catacomb textures used this is a nice looking level though nothing we haven't seen before. By the end of the level you'll need to find four gems and the hathor effigy - unfortunately gameplay consists mainly of opening doors to get to the next area. There are four rooms at the end with some traps but I'd rather have puzzles than spikes that suddenly come out of a normal looking floor tile. That's more a game of chance than of skill. It wasn't a bad level but it wasn't really exciting or anything either. I did like the way the water was used and it looked beautiful with it's brilliant blue color." - RaiderGirl (22-Jul-2002)
"Unfortunately this was another level that when death occurs throughout you are sent straight to desktop and with a 4 part puzzle full of booby traps near the end to search for crucial pick ups I just got sick of having to reset the game over and over. Apart from that though this was a good 20 minute level with some fun jumping and without any enemies besides one non-threatening mummy." - Sash (21-Jun-2002)
"A classical 20 minute Catacomb level with very straightforward gameplay and a number of spike traps which you cannot anticipate in any way. Apart from that there are a few other design bugs, such as Lara using wrong animations at pickups, the missing load screen, stretched textures to name a few.“ - Michael (21-Jun-2002)
"Another one of those annoying levels that drops you to the desktop every time Lara dies. Unacceptable. Hence the low 'gameplay' score. If not for that this would have been an enjoyable 20 minutes romp. There are NO enemies in this level and only one or two simple puzzles to give you pause to consider." - Torry (21-Jun-2002)
"---sorry --- review text got lost ----" - Jbc21 (21-Jun-2002)
"One of the many catacomb levels I found it hard to thoroughly enjoy playing this. Fist impressions...excellent! An opening room with two fountains that has to be seen to be believed but some very easy and straight forward puzzles. We players DEMAND challenge! A simple smash vase pick up item put in slot puzzle is not really very interesting. For a complete new beginner to Tomb Raider you would love this level. Otherwise I do not recommend it. When playing I found it to be very quiet and no atmosphere was created. Some VERY annoying spikes and boulders made me enjoy this less. No enemies apart from a lonely mummy who would rather crawl back to his sarcophagus than hurt poor Lara. Having said that Brad is a master in lighting and textures nothing bad here. Only play if you want lighting inspiration!" - TrueRaider (21-Jun-2002)
"I assume this is the first level of the author. And for a first level it's great. But we players demand more in levels. So what did we have in this one? A very non-logical puzzle with the shattering vase in the beginning. That's not a very smart puzzle next time I hope he will do better puzzles. A mummy which was not exactly hurting anyone. The level was very easy and I understand that mine was too. I liked the room with the spikes coming out of the floor with no warning. It's pumping up the adrenaline besides that's my style. In the next level I hope the author will use that but not too much. So this level is simple light and ordinary. I'm not saying the level is bad because it isn't it's just not offering anything I have never seen." - Yonatan (21-Jun-2002)
