Reviewer's comments
"A pretty short tutorial-style level, where Lara goes down two different routes to complete the Eye of Horus. Each route contains its challenges, including combat against little scorpions and goons, boulder ramps, and jumping over deadly grate tiles. I could have done without the really long shimmy sequence, and would have preferred a camera cue to indicate that placing the first star opened the door to the second one. Otherwise it's a straightforward classic raid with simple but functional visuals, and if nothing else I might recommend it as a palette cleanser of sorts.19 minutes." - JesseG (03-Apr-2021)
"A straightforward and easy Egypt level. You start in an open area and then you fall into a cave where your objective is to find Horus' eye. The few challenges are not that hard. The best are the cameras, flybys, and sound. Texturization could be better though, as some rooms were blocky and with flat lighting. A suitable level for beginners or if you feel like playing an easy level." - alan (05-Apr-2018)
"This is an easy but solidly constructed level that took me around 25 minutes to play. It would be an ideal starting point for beginners because the challenges are few and the activation of levers often comes with a nicely guided camera hint even if the door is very close by. Many ninjas and scorpions to shoot, and once again the main objective is the Eye of Horus. I quite liked the choice of music in this one, particularly the one that plays as Lara slides down a long slope. Quite a nice touch." - Ryan (03-Feb-2018)
"Scorpion Central. Really. Well, there are quite a few ninjas hanging around too, but it's mainly about the scorpions. Joking aside, this is actually quite a pleasant thirty minutes of Egyptian raiding. It's competently built and the action moves along at a good pace and, although there's nothing at all difficult to accomplish, it passes the time nicely. Excellent choice for a new player." - Jay (02-Mar-2016)
"Not bad this small level nice to play, but without puzzles. Your goal is to find the two eye pieces to open the exit door. As usual, red scorpions (many), white ninjas and mummies; I found ammo for the shotgun but not the gun itself; few ammo for the uzis. The environment is well textured, but monotonous; many rooms are too bright and the crawlspaces too dark. The best is the good atmosphere; many cd tracks and the author placed cameras everywhere, even if the lever opens a door two tiles distant :D . Suitable for beginners." - Jose (13-Nov-2015)
"I played this under the erroneous belief that you had to do so in order to play the continuation level (Absorbed City). It turned out that wasn't the case, but I don't consider the 26 minutes I spent here to be wasted time. It's a routine Egyptian romp, with a few more scorpions than were really necessary. You learn early on to expect enemies to materialize when you pick up an item or push a switch. It's a fairly linear, well-lighted raid that would be a good choice for players just getting familiar with Tomb Raider." - Phil (23-Dec-2013)
"This is the Tutorial level, but the level builder has used his own ideas. Lara must push two statues, find the eye of Horus find, as well as the hand of Sirius and the hand of Osiris. She dive a little bit and must fight against Baddies, mummies and scorpions. The doors open by itself or by lever. The level is built tolerably. Now and again one sees stretched textures and the lighting feels well only partly, because it is sometimes very light, nevertheless. The playing time is rather short with about 20 minutes, but for Occasionally the level is suitable quite well." - Scottie (15-May-2009)
"Short and easy gameplay; nice flyby. Start the level find four objects many gates some of them open alone and others by lever. Mummies ninjas and small red scorpions are the enemies - nice level." - Yoav (16-May-2004)
"I expected something different but it's a standard tutorial level with two hands and the classic Eye of Horus. Mummies ninjas and scorpions are the enemies with some spike and spike ball traps plus a nice earthquake effect that changes one room. You also have to push some levers to open the next gate that will allow you to continue. Basically a fifteen minutes level with the classic end after using the Eye." - Kristina (16-Sep-2003)
"I do enjoy a good quickie (and so does the wife) and this certainly provided the goods albeit in a rather modest fashion. A pleasantly textured open area gives way to a cosily familiar Tomb environment where the whole purpose is to search for the two halves of the Eye Piece in order to exit; and guess what? The acquisition of each half requires a challenge or two. Extroardinary. Nevermind the author has presented this little quest in a pleasant style with very graceful (although quite unnecessary) flybys and good texturing. The challenges are very easy and predictable and the environs are far too bright for a Tomb but this doesn't matter much. I can't end without drawing your attention to the quite marvelous use of music in the 'big slide' sequence near the start. This is the first time I have encountered a Custom Level 'moment' wherein sound and physical action is so closely and perfectly integrated. Worth playing just to experience this." - Orbit Dream (27-Aug-2003)
"This level has some nice flybys and the music when you first fall into the pool is just great. But I couldn't shake the feeling that I've seen it all before. Might be that I played this level before and didn't hand in my review. I'm not sure but after playing almost 300 levels my brain is not functioning as it should do LOL. It is a short and easy level nice in between the hard and dark ones one seems to find now these days. Enemies are ninjas their specialty is creeping up behind Lara and some scorpions. I also counted 6 mummies but you can avoid them. Pulling levers and finding two Hands and the two pieces of the Eye. You'll find the uzi and the shotgun and some medpacks. Textures are well known but done very well specially if this is a first level. So play this. 07-08-2002" - Gerty (18-Aug-2002)
"I would like to say that this level was challenging just as the name states but it isn't game play is straightforward and even key pick ups are sitting out in the open like the first half of the Eye of Horus and the 2 Hands which should at least have been a little hard to have obtained. There are some really nice fly bys and camera angles a slight room altering tremor and some scorpions and ninjas that actually keep you on your toes but apart from that this was a pretty standard Egyptian style level that was quite fast paced because difficulty was low taking me just under 25 minutes to finish." - Sash (21-Jun-2002)
"From a nicely designed starting flyby camera this 20 minutes level unfolds and has you hardly ever stopping. I counted some 20 scorpions about 10 ninjas (some appearing out of thin air) and a few mummies along the way and while the choice of textures is standard they are well and consistently applied." - Michael (21-Jun-2002)
"This level is pretty cool. It has nice puzzles. The main object is to find the Eye of Horus to open the final door. But the pieces are very well hidden in this big map level." - Treeble (21-Jun-2002)
"A very short level with simple linear gameplay. Enemies are mostly of the kind that can just be ignored. Atmosphere textures and lighting are all fine but basic. A couple of nice flybys are the highlight of the level." - Tombaholic (21-Jun-2002)
"For a short 25 minute level this covers a lot of area and has you finding quite a few objects to proceed further through the next door. Though most of it was pretty straight forward there were a few tricky spots (especially those boulders) that had me reloading a few times and the ninjas and scorpions just seemed to appear out of nowhere making me wonder where the next one was going to pop up. No hard or tricky puzzles here but an enjoyable time can be had finding and placing the key items. Great fly-bys here and great lighting also standard textures used but very well done. I recommend this if you're looking for a short easier level to play." - RaiderGirl (21-Jun-2002)
"And yet another 20 minute tutorial routine that despite the title isn't very challenging but provides a bit of entertainment all the same. What do you want to know? That you have to find the two pieces of the Eye of Horus along with the two Starfish? I doubt it. That you'll bump into scorpions ninjas and mummies? You've most likely worked that out for yourself. That there are two spiked boulder traps that I managed on the first try? You probably couldn't care less. That you have to shimmy monkeyswing and climb along the way? Well I don't really think you are that easily impressed. Can I tempt you with the traditional Egyptian tomb atmosphere or are you bored stiff with it like I am? Alright there is one room that combines poisonous darts scorpions mummies a spiked boulder and two levers. Can you stand the excitement? But hey there is no maze and plenty of vessels to shoot so why not have a look for yourself." - Dimpfelmoser (21-Jun-2002)
