Reviewer's comments
"It's not rated high and there is several reasons for that , the main being the shortness of this raid. What you have to so is pretty obvious and the secrets are hard to miss. At least you can use the granade gun to blow out guards and other weapons as well. Not an obligatory raid of course but we have seen worse." - eRIC (01-Jun-2019)
"A level that lasted only 8 minutes on my first play. Then I remembered that I hadn't found the secrets, so I replayed it and eventually, I found them both. But still, it's very short and not much else to do." - alan (04-Apr-2018)
"Lara must find two secrets to exit the city? Really no. There's an error in the gameplay design, 'cause I finished the level and never found secrets, losing a good part of the gameplay. I remembered that I left behind a closed door, reload and go back to explore; then I found the ladder and yes, I could find the secrets. No interesting tasks here, only shoot some SAS and bats, pull some switches and no more. The rooms are empty of objects, the texures are not very nice and there's only a single camera shot in this short level. Not very enjoyable." - Jose (11-Dec-2017)
"I didn't encounter a labyrinth, for which I'm glad. There's not all that much else really, shooting a few guards and bats, finding a few useless items and doing a spot of swimming. Also a bit too dark overall." - Ryan (21-Nov-2016)
"Twenty minutes of shooting SAS and bats, with a bit of lever pulling. Despite the title, I didn't encounter a maze of any description and was somewhat baffled by picking up the nitrous oxide as there wasn't a motorbike in sight. Perhaps the level was originally going to be longer. Who knows? The builder has used some nice textures, but overall the level is rather dark, so it can be hard to appreciate them." - Jay (02-Mar-2016)
"A fairly lifeless TR4-styled city level with half-hearted attempts at lighting, generally poor texturing, uneventful gameplay, barely any objects present and nothing but dull SAS soldiers to fight. Better off just skipping this one." - Ceamonks890 (11-Jul-2015)
"Not one to write home about, but not an unplayable level either. While there isn't much to look at, there are at least some enemies to fight. This levels no work of art, as it seems to have been shoved out prematurely, but at least the few minutes I spent with it were sorta fun. Don't going into this one expecting a masterpiece, just a mediocre diversion." - Xela (23-Jul-2013)
"Why is this flyby for? Why we get the crowbar? What do we have to do with that secret NOS bottle? No idea. Switches and doors are located the way there is no option for us to miss them. That makes us unable to look for the clues and, as a result, solve any puzzles. So 0 for them, and 2 for average gameplay. We can fight some standard SASes and bats, and this is nothing special, I think. However, they are placed correctly. The rest is fine, as for a 20-minute game. I liked the lighting the most, and the useful cameras. SUMMARY: I must say it's the first small level since a very long time I really appreciated. For those who like city.wad and Cairo levels, it's an optional nice short raid. But all in all, still only optional." - DJ Full (28-Oct-2010)
"I am a happy person. Really!! You can take my word for it! I was desperate, when I had read the word maze, because I get always lost lost in a maze. But lo and behold, there is no maze. Lara must only flee. And before I had understood this, the level was over after less than 10 minutes. During these few minutes I have run through more or less substantially built and textured rooms. Here, unfortunately, there was nothing to do, except kill a few SAS-Soldiers and open a few doors. For a complete level is this of course a little bit too little. However, for the quite small level hunger occasionally it is just still enough." - Scottie (09-May-2009)
"All the signs are that this was built in a hurry;awful fly-by,enemies laid on heavily,a lack of understanding of what the textures are supposed to be,poor animation,no load screen,no objective. For a 9 minute run with a small bloodbath at the end it may be just the thing." - Orbit Dream (01-Feb-2007)
"Labyrinth? Where? At any rate, this is a short minute that has Lara searching for levers and jumpswitches to open doors and proceed. A few SAS and some bats inbetween and even a grenade launcher secret just before the grand finale. 10 minutes, 2 secrets. 01/07" - Treeble (31-Jan-2007)
"Hmm, I can't say I liked this level much. I spent 10 minutes pushing switches, killing some SAS guards and then the game crashed back to desktop. As a first level it is ok but the ratings will still not be high from me. 2005-05-29" - QRS (31-May-2005)
"Being a City.tom file you can expect this to be dark very dark. The architecture texturing flybys and lighting (what lighting!) are not great. There is however a little gameplay here finding levers killing bats and guards a bit of swimming climbing and jumping. I also found a grenade gun revolver uzi lasersight and nitros oxide but nothing nor noone to use them on. When I reached a room with three guards to shoot I saw through a trellis another area so running through the door nearby I thought this must be the way. But unfortunately on the mac I had a serious crash at this stage and couldn't finish it. In fact I couldn't reload or exit without crashing. There was no labyrinth. Seems to me a level that was abandoned and just to release it the author just threw all the textures of the city wad onto all available surfaces. Then again it's a very old level so I'll never know what happened." - CC (13-Aug-2004)
"Too dark for my taste and only shooting pulling and running is not my way to pass the time. 23-10-2002" - Gerty (27-Oct-2002)
"I spent 9 minutes pulling switches killing guards and bats trying to find the 'labyrinth' I was supposed to escape from. This showed a little promise if the author had just put a little more effort into it." - Momster (01-Sep-2002)
"A few years ago I took the Sea Cat from Calais to Ramsgate and you know the Sea Cat if the waters are rough it's even worse than the Hovercraft. To make matters worse it was night so you had no horizon to focus on. I'm usually not prone to sea sickness but his was such a bumpy ride that 15 minutes into the journey I could feel it coming so I made a beeline for the toilets and luckily there was still a free cubicle. I remained there for the rest of the trip puking my guts out till green goo dripped from my nose and all around me grown men were throwing up and retching violently. All the while the mellow piano music could be heard playing soothingly over the speakers. It was so bizarre there were all those people apparently in a great deal of pain and over it the dulcet tones from: 'The Girl from Ipanema' could be heard as if everything was just fine. You might want to know what this has to do with the level in hand. Well I still have the sound files from Ynys Witrin Part 3 installed so here Lara was killing SAS guards while medieval Easy Listening played incessantly. See the connection? Well it reminded me of that fateful night when we crossed the Channel with the Sea Cat." - Dimpfelmoser (19-Aug-2002)
"No offense to the creator but I didn't like the look of this 15 minute level at all and just having a handful of switches to pull some SAS and bats to shoot and 2 easy secrets to find I wasn't overly interested in the gameplay either." - Sash (21-Jun-2002)
"This is a very small installment of a level with the dreaded sinister looks of the City WAD. It took me all of eight minutes to complete it by pulling two or three levers and shooting half a dozen SAS men and the initial flyby could use some rework too." - Michael (21-Jun-2002)
"I usually like levels based on the city wad but this one had nothing to do and ended abruptly after 10 minutes so I ask myself what was the point? Also one of my pet hates was that the level was WAY too dark." - Torry (21-Jun-2002)
"The ten minutes I spent playing this dark city level were spent going from room to room pulling the switch that opened the door in the next room killing a few guards and some bats along the way. It looks like the author tried to hide the jump switches in the dark but unfortunately they were still pretty easy to spot. The level ended quite suddenly and I'm still not sure what it was all about. I'm not sure why it's called 'Escape from the Labyrinth' either - what labyrinth?" - RaiderGirl (21-Jun-2002)
"This is one of the shortest levels I have played. The author seems to have abandoned the level before it got started. What there was of this Central courtyard type work was good-but there was just nothing to it." - Doug E (21-Jun-2002)
"Very short level. Not much gameplay. Dull." - Fairy Godfather (21-Jun-2002)
"Five minutes or so of game play with the textures all messed up a few levers and jump switches which open doors to go further and find another door. In between a pool and some SAS guards are no challenge at all. You get the uzi and the shotgun but they aren't really needed. I am guessing a first attempt." - Kristina (21-Jun-2002)
