Reviewer's comments
"Pretty much standard fare catacomb level. Apart from one or two wafer thin walls, it's fairly solidly built, but a touch gloomy in places so having the flare bug rear its ugly head quite early on was a bit irritating. It's a short level and pleasant enough if you fancy a catacomb raid though." - Jay (19-Oct-2018)
"Levels pace is very nice. It is not quite hard but still enjoyable. Textures are good and desing also. Lighting is also good. Recommendable level for beginners and players which have a little time." - vienna (17-May-2017)
"A short Catacombs style level where Lara journeys through a tomb to find a scroll and a trident, although we don't see her acquire them, the level ends before we do. There is also a Pharos knot to find as well as some gems. It doesn't look too bad for its age, although the dratted flare bug appears early one. Nice as an in between level." - Ryan (18-Aug-2016)
"This time I'm surprised about the low ratings. It's a pain the flare bug appears very soon, but the items you need are not very hidden so it'll not be a real problem for the gameplay. Of course, the level is short and there are not great puzzles, but the gameplay is fluid and entertaining with only a switch to pull and the tasks are not difficult. The secrets are easy to find, and you'll find enough weapons and ammo; the crossbow (and the grenade gun) appeared too late, only to shoot a couple of skeletons, and the uzis were totally useless. Correct use of sounds and cameras, the rooms are usually well textured. A level to have a pleasant time." - Jose (13-Jul-2016)
"This Catacomb-Level has actually only one snag and this is the flarebug. Here are some dark places, but unfortunately the Flares function only if one throws them on the ground. Pistol-shots donate also no light and the same one is valid for the binoculars. Moreover, not all wall torches burnt. Such a thing is unfortunate, because thereby a lot from the good atmosphere gets lost, because the level is built actually very well and has some interesting rooms. One can find all weapons, but most of them are needless, because only a few skeletons and a mummy were present. The Flyby's were a little bit hectic and at a few places were the textures absent. The level is not bad all together, but with a little bit more care he could have been substantially better." - Scottie (05-Mar-2010)
"There were no puzzles at all, gameplay is fluent, but too short. It has a story, that is good, though reading it, takes just as much time as playing it. Lara doesn't get the pleasure to actually pick up the quest items. Too bad for the flare bug, and some traps didn't have sound. The level is built nicely, but just a few things, like the little waterfall, or the underwater current that made a little highlight to it. Using of more variety of textures would have been welcomed. As a debut level, it's not bad, despite the ratings, if you wish for a light raiding on a hard day's night, it's even recommended." - Akcy (09-Dec-2006)
"A typical egypt designed level with not much new to offer but it was a likeable 30min level. Fairly standard puzzles and jumping sums up this level with a few mummies (and some deadly beetles if you become too curious). Also had a bit of a bug where the flare doesn't light up until you throw it. Some nice cutscenes and a use of current help make this more enjoyable. As a typically designed Egypt level, it is nicely done. There have been worse and this level has not been lazily created. Not one of the best levels I've played but it certanily isn't naff. Worth playing if you're bored and have 30mins to kill." - Necro (04-May-2006)
"I am reviewing this level only after my first try so I can give a first impression. I liked the idea of a centralized hub that Lara could come back to and go from each time. I thought the secrets were well placed and well hidden. The layout and design were above par and bordered on being good. There were a couple of challenges to be had but not enough for the veteran tombraidian. I would like to mention that the enemies were not varied enough and the amount of ammo was too much. Camera work was of a good quality. The biggest let down was from the flare glitch. There were a many dark areas in this level and a flare would have been great. Not having this option sometimes made certain areas frustrating and unnecessarily hazardous. If I had to give this level a grade it would get a C a pass mark." - The Aussie Adventurer (25-Oct-2004)
"This level has a pretty interesting mythological background but the facts were a little bit distorted (for the sake of gameplay?). Where's Agamemnon and why is there a pharos knot in a Greek archaeological site (based on myths)? There isn't a single thing that indicates where he is. The enemies were well-placed I have enjoyed the obstacles the current fascinated me and you need to retrace your steps several times in this level. The textures were quite good but one of the spikes had the wrong OCB (ie popping in and out from the ceiling) the water textures aren't animated (please press Alt+enter next time in order to find the 'Texture animations' button) and some of the pools and the lava aren't textured." - Sakusha (01-Aug-2004)
"Enjoyable level here set in the Catacomb rooms so expect skeletons mummies a wraith and a few beetles to show up. Some really nice rooms with water pools waterfall and a lava area that you need to explore to find a gem and the Pharaoh's Knot to finish the level. I found all three secrets one of which was really well hidden. You pick up weapons also which are not secrets. Some spikes appear but only to block your way in order for you to take a different route back there are some avoidable wall darts too. This was well set out and my only problem was with the flare bug due to so many torches on the walls even though the torches looked wonderful they did not give much light and so it was a hard task to navigate in the dark a lot of the time. Also in the lava room there was a rope I didn't use. Even so this was a pleasure to play and well worth a look at." - Moonpooka (02-Jul-2004)
"This is a good little level. Well I must explain. There is a lot of good ideas in this level. I loved the fiery rooms and the underwater rooms. Some of them look like the tutorial level and some of them are the same but for a first level it's really good. I've found one thin wall and the famous torch bug (unfortunately). It takes about 20 short minutes. I said 'short' because I think that the author is talented. There is one moment very funny with a lot of skeletons but I don't say more. Download it and you will see ! 20.05.2004" - Antonien (23-May-2004)
"After playing some frustrating games I decided to go back to the listing and play the first game there. So be it! I particularly liked this level as it was very attractive with some nice ideas and as I had come off a run of frustration perhaps there was a bit of relief that here was a level I could handle without pulling my hair out. The writer lost a point on 'Lighting and Textures' because of the BUG. Darn I hate that thing when it shows up in a level that someone took some care over. Good entertainment recommended." - Sherry (11-Oct-2003)
"This is a nice short level to play. The best part of the design of the level is texturing everything seemed to fit into place. There were a few bugs like when you light a flare no light actually comes from it and when Lara goes multicoloured in some small areas. There was really not much game play you just needed to go and get a key for a lock then another key for another lock. A good level; just a bit too short." - Lil Kid (04-Jul-2003)
"That is a good little level... 30 minutes max. but for unbend it's perfect! I didn't find any secrets in this level but maybe there is it. I love the rooms with fire and the bigger room under water. Damage there are lot of skins into it... Well... it's a good level to do when you have a bit time!" - Neso (16-Apr-2003)
"This is a solid catacomb adventure and is not a really bad one would have been even better if the flare bug wouldn't have occured I actually didn't notice that many flames that could cause the bug but I guess only the builder of the level knows... The cool currents one sequence where you have to avoid the boulders is not so bad and I really liked one of the waterfalls I saw. Download it for the 16 minute fun playtime you'll have if this doesn't sound too intriguing look for something else." - eTux (31-Mar-2003)
"I liked reading a little background about this level especially when it's Greek mythology my country's mythology. I have to say that the source which the author took it is very good as it is how we know it I don't like it when facts are distorted. The level though has nothing of what I expected maybe there could be an outside area to begin with and then make your way to Agamemnon's sepulcher although it should be in an island with ruins and buried underground if the author wanted it to be hidden. Instead there was a classic catacomb setting with a knot and a gem to be found and three secrets. Some rope swinging through a lava room and getting carried by a current short time after the level ends. Well it is a nice start." - Kristina (20-Mar-2003)
"Quite interesting history but the level is very short lasting around 20 minutes. Lara does accomplish her mission though. Unfortunately the flare bug occurs very early in the level. Not that the level is dark though but I am sure the secrets I missed where hidden somehow in those shadows - I found only one right at the beginning. The textures are nice applied and even though I hate catacomb wad made levels I enjoyed this one." - Treeble (08-Mar-2003)
"A little but enjoyable adventure because of the beautifully lit rooms (the lava room with big arcs; the little gem pedestal in bluish light in the top area of the big pillars room) and fluent flyby cameras. Because of the many torches the flare bug spoils this level a bit but makes it not too annoying. The secrets were nicely done. The author wrote me late january 2003 that he's working on a bigger level. One to look out for!" - bERT (14-Feb-2003)
"The only downside was the flare bug that kicked in way too early. I don't mind being chased by skeletons but I would like to see where I am going as this level is set in a gloomy atmosphere. Getting a gem and a knot is the main goal here. I liked the lay out of this game and had a laugh when I found in the underwater swim being chased by the wraith some flares. Enemies the usual you'll get by using the catacomb WAD. Found 3 secrets 23-12-2002" - Gerty (29-Dec-2002)
"What can I say other than this is your stock standard catacomb level that took me just over 20 minutes with 3 secrets found (Mikey the third secret is in the water with current but don't tell anyone else) and that damn flare bug early on." - Sash (12-Dec-2002)
"Not quite as apocalyptic as the title would suggest. In fact it's your standard Catacomb adventure with the well known foes a rather good setting and a nice flow of the gameplay. I can't understand why this is rated so low. Ok there is nothing too special about the whole adventure but I liked the long shot with the lever in the foreground and jumping up the pillars was great fun. It would have been even more fun if the jumps had been a bit challenging but since you are able to do the running swan dive from above I won't complain. There were a few nice touches like the gem that gave it's surroundings a blue glow and the little waterfall with the steam looked also good to me." - Dimpfelmoser (05-Dec-2002)
"A typical catacomb level carefully textured but much too dark in many places. The flare bug appears quite near the start. Your opponents are a couple of skeletons a mummy and little scarabs the latter you can avoid if you leave some shotgun ammo where it is. A little jumping diving collecting two puzzle items that's all. In one of the rooms there was a very nice waterfall. A nice but short and easy game of 25 minutes." - Sheevah (23-Aug-2002)
"Another dank and dark level of 25 minutes where the flare bug showed up early to add insult to injury. Some pickups were irretrievable and if you opted to use the binoculars because the flares would not work it promptly dumped you back to your desktop. Why people release levels in such a state is beyond me! Some reviewers claimed there was some excitement being chased by skeletons. Well not if you head shoot them first. Overall an unsatisfying level." - Torry (17-Aug-2002)
"A short pleasure. Unfortunately the flarebug immediately appeared with the entrance of the 2nd room so that I cannot say a lot about the atmosphere. It was simple too dark. The puzzles are standard nothing special. Opponents are skeletons and a fire spirit nothing else. I have blown off the skull of the skeletons first shortly after I found the crossbow and explosive arrows. There were some jump sequences which are to be considered more an exercise. Even for a beginner it can be solved easily only the flarebug interferes a lot." - Xxenofex (15-Aug-2002)
"This is ostensibly as standard as they come; a level set within a large temple-like environment involving rope swings pole climbs swimming beetles mummies and skeletons. And yet it possesses that indefinable 'something' which produces good involving entertainment. It's no epic and doesn't really present us with anything we haven't seen many times before yet it moves swiftly contains beautiful environments interesting rooms and a well-designed playing area; one of those levels where you come back later in the game to where you've been before but from a different angle. This is just the sort of level to load up when you want to lose yourself in a well made environment for half-an-hour." - Orbit Dream (24-Jul-2002)
"Well what a nice story to it and even some historical background in the readme but somehow I could not quite reconcile it with the actual level I played after reading it. This is a fairly standard catacomb environment and I enjoyed the half hour I spent there as it has been a while since I played such a level but while there is a generally well done architecture and good use of sound with some of the (short) flybys a nice camera angle from far away there is also the flare bug early in the game (and there are a few dark corners - with nothing in them though) and I only found to puzzle pieces I had to use to progress (a gem and a knot) and nothing about the artifacts and treasures mentioned in the story. Lots of ammo pickups around for handling 5 skeletons beetles two wraiths and a mummy and I found only two of the alleged three secrets (shotgun and Uzi) while the revolver and crossbow did not come as secrets in the first place. The use of the water current was well done but as said before with such a storyline one would expect a much more intricate level like for example in 'Tomb of Cleopatra's Handmaiden'." - Michael (21-Jun-2002)
"Everything one would expect from a Catacomb level - spike balls wraiths skeletons. Some nicely designed rooms but a very short level and no particular challenge." - Tombaholic (21-Jun-2002)
"This catacomb style level was good for a half hour worth of entertainment and had a few exciting moments but otherwise was made up of the typical puzzles we've all seen before. There are two doors to open each requiring an object (the gem or the knot) and the search for each takes you on a short little journey. With a devious little boulder trap some skeletons chasing you and some jumps over beds of spikes there are some exciting moments but overall the level is a bit too easy for most raiders it's a good choice if your looking for a short and simple level though. Unfortunately the flare bug started in the second room and there are many dark shadows - I may have missed some pickups but I found everything I needed including one secret. The level looked good and would be great with some more puzzles added." - RaiderGirl (21-Jun-2002)
"This is a short but still nice level. The texturing isn't too impressive and the rooms could have been more detailed but the level looks quite good. My biggest complaint is that the author placed too many fires which made the flare-bug appear. Luckily the level is well lit in most places. The level is very easy and can be completed in 10 to 15 minutes. One thing I really liked about the level was that the author had taken his/her time to write a story which more authors should do. It's really not that fun to just find yourself in a tomb or temple not knowing why you are there or what you are looking for. Of course the story could have been better but I thought it set the mood for the level. Overall a short level that could have been expanded but it gets a plus for having a story." - Magnus (21-Jun-2002)
"Very short level. No great difficulty involved." - Fairy Godfather (21-Jun-2002)
"I make a review for this level because I had fun when playing even if it is a bit short. The run with jumps with the skeletons behind Lara was very enjoyable. There are some interesting things in this level: use of current in the water some good jumps from pillars to pillars another one from a rope to a pole. The texturing is rather good except for a pool with no animation for the water. Found the flare bug but none of the 3 secrets. I will replay the level with pleasure to find them." - eRIC (21-Jun-2002)
"It's always hard being the first to review a particular game and it's even harder if the game (as you played it) has problems: Sepulchre of Agamemnon is a case in point. It is entirely possible that I missed part of the game or my PC crashed back to TR4 too early. The game opens well enough; a nice flyby / climb to large central hall with 3 doors to open ...textures although too familiar are well placed (was hoping for something a little more Greek from the title!) the lighting not at all bad. Even the gameplay has its moments....running jumps to ropes with skeleton-warriors on your heels! But that's the end of the good news......Just as the game begins to open up it comes to an abrupt end . The whole level takes less than 30 minutes to complete most of the pickups are pointless and enemies are few. I look forward to reading some more reviews; my scores reflect only the game I played and I apologise in advance if I've missed a large section." - db (21-Jun-2002)
"I'm not real fond of the catacomb wad and this was pretty typical but did offer some decent gameplay. A bit short but the multiple run and jumps from ledge to ledge with skeletons hot on your butt culminating in a fairly tricky jump to a rope was exciting. Worth 1/2 hours time." - Momster (21-Jun-2002)
