Reviewer's comments
"Those who want a nail-biting, nerve fraying, challenging, frustrating assault course kind of raid will find their dreams have come true with this level. There are many dangers to Lara's health here. Spike traps, wraiths and floating platforms, spiked boulders, poison darts, jumps from a great height, demigods, blade traps. The emphasis is on keeping Lara safe, although the occasional pillar puzzle does creep in. What I could see of the textures did look good, but you'll hardly notice anyway. Definitely worth playing for an adrenaline rush of about 50 minutes." - Ryan (10-Jul-2017)
"I have to say I would have found this extremely challenging way back in 2001 and even now the room with two fire wraiths took a bit of doing, without getting crispy fried Lara. There are blade/chain/spike ball traps galore and plenty of circular blades, one of which features in a rather good little timed run. All the relentless action should stop you getting bored right up until the boss ending. It all adds up to quite an adrenalin rush and remains well worth playing, even by modern standards." - Jay (27-Jun-2016)
"I'm not sure what happened to Crystal Temple 1, but this is a good old-fashioned trapfest from the early years of the level editor. I thought I'd played all of Emoo's levels, because I like his style very much, but I must have missed this one. It seemed like a pretty short raid given all the nonstop action, but at the end my game clock registered nearly one hour. It helps to use Dutchy's walkthough as you progress, so you'll know what to expect once you get there, but there's still a lot of adrenalin being pumped along the way. Once thing I can't explain is Emoo's overuse of those circular blade hoops, which to the initiated are boringly easy to conquer, requiring a simple side jump as the blades open. Swimming through them is slightly more difficult, but you only have to do that once or twice. By far the best sequence is the ending boss battle, if you can overlook the looping action music that quickly becomes more of an irritant than the boss enemy itself. Nevertheless, you simply can't go wrong with an Emoo level. Recommended." - Phil (14-Nov-2011)
"If you're in the mood for a fast-paced linear,trap-filled assault course, then this is for you.Nasty spikes are followed by Demi-gods,which in turn are succeeded by circular-blade traps and nasty Seth creatures. In between are an assortment of skeletons and wraiths, some of them attacking you downright unfairly as you attempt to jump over platforms. The constant music, attrition on Lara's health and seemingly un-ending nasty blade traps all get a little wearying after a while;but it's all do-able and occasionally exciting (in a frustrating kind of way). Atmosphere and textures are little to write home about (save the impressive final room)but it's not the sort of adventure where you'll be standing still admiring the scenery, anyway. As far as 'gauntlet levels' are concerned(although there have been several better in the years since this was released)it's definately worthy of a play for those whose frayed nerves can take it!" - Orbit Dream (17-Jul-2009)
"Very dangerous this temple; there are traps in every corner. Lineal level no much difficult to play but with some tricky tasks, as the timed door with the circle blades on your way or the lava room with the fire wraiths. I've really enjoyed this work, some interesting puzzles and action, action and action always dealing with enemies or avoiding dangers. Very good ambience with intelligent cameras and a lot of musics; textures from TR3 and a spectacular final with an immortal boss. Good work Szymon!" - Jose (13-May-2008)
"A fast paced level, hardly any stop because of the lot of traps and well placed enemies. There are some puzzles of the simple kind, but its's mainly action, we have to jump on platforms while fire wraiths on the loose, many demi gods to fight with, there are traps in almost every room, slicers in every corridor, the latter was a bit overused even. Textures are nice, but just a few decorating objects, all in all looks okay. Some pickups came with unaviodable injuries, still the level can be accomplished without using medis, the bug that the final boss didn't hurt Lara made it easier though. There were no secrets." - Akcy (03-Apr-2007)
"If you're up for a challenge with loads of traps, then this little adventure is for you. To be honest I have never played a level that has had me so tensed up, all throughout the game-play, as this one did. But saying that, It's a type of level, which I just couldn't leave alone until I had completed and conquered all those nasty traps that were ahead of me, just so I could get to see the end finale. As you start you're little adventure, you will be thrown into a nasty timed run, just to get you in the mood of what lays ahead of you, which entails running through a circular blade too, well that was a real challenge in itself, which took me many tries in getting past, only to get past that first door to then be greeted by your first enemy, a demigod. Another adrenalin rush for me, was that hopping and jumping sequence on translucent platforms, with a fire wraith hot on your tail. Your main objective here, is to find a vraeus, the crowbar, a star and 4 guardian keys and blocking and crossing your path, you will encounter enemies like skeletons, wraiths and more demigods, which just added even more fury fun to this little adventure, as you were getting past all those nasty traps to reach that final room, where that angry Seth lays waiting for you. Personally I loved that last room, swinging on all those ropes, pulling some switches, killing the demigods and retrieving your guardian keys, to me that was the best part of this little adventure. The atmosphere was good and is linear in game-play, with a few and easy block puzzles to solve, each room was nicely designed and textured by this author. So if you're up for a quick 45 minute challenging adventure, this one will be for you." - Gill (24-Jun-2006)
"Your goal here is to collect a vraeus and four guardian keys to get out of the temple. That can be done by passing many stargates fight demigods and skeletons deal with spike balls and blade traps. There is also a timed run with a stargate in the middle which took me sometime to master. It's a nice level with a star to find and some underwater switches as well. The boss at the end was firing blanks at times because although the bolts hit Lara she lost no health at all. It lasted forty minutes for me." - Kristina (09-Sep-2003)
"As I ran through this level I found myself thinking how much it looked like the Tinnos levels from TR 3. And I did run through the level as there were so many traps and difficult moves to make and of course the demigods skeletons and elementals were after me quite a bit so there was no time to rest! Speeding through the level made it go by pretty quickly so it wasn't long before I was in Seth's room doing a little rope swinging and pulling some switches as I attempted to collect the four Guardian's Keys. Some of the rooms were quite easy but some had me reloading more times than I care to admit." - RaiderGirl (26-Jan-2003)
"What a shame. The great gameplay was somewhat ruined for me because of the overabundance of circular slicers at the end. Fortunately Seth was in a peaceful mood so I could afford to lose a bit of blood while flipping sideways through the never-ending succession of blades. Otherwise it is an utterly enjoyable if fairly linear raiding experience that took me a little over 45 minutes to complete. I didn't go for the crossbow but then you don't really need it anyway. You get some excellent traps two torch puzzles (one of them rather simple) there are a few pillars to push a lot of pop up blades to avoid and the highpoint is a thrilling hopping sequence over translucent platforms while a fire elemental is in hot pursuit. I liked the timed run and for once the underwater maze was not annoying but quite exciting. There are some great camera angles especially in the room where you collect the star so all in all a rather entertaining experience that features many of Emoo's hallmarks that we learned to love and dread. The setting is not too impressive but as you basically rush through it you don't really mind." - Dimpfelmoser (01-Dec-2002)
"What can I say? I never had so many saved games in a level as in this one. This level is full of traps. Although you do get a lot of weapons and in this game I used them, as the medpacks were not in abundance, I even saved every time when I went around a corner. There is a torch puzzle and a block puzzle, but they are easy compared to whatever comes on your way. You need to get a Vraeus, a star and crowbar and 4 Guardian Keys. Apart from the demigods there is also a wraith thrown in. Rope swinging for your life, and an angry Seth had it in for poor Lara. Although I never got hit once I had the Guardians keys and put them in their receptacles. In the beginning there is a nasty timed run, had to ask my buddy to do that for me as I was ready to chuck the level. And, as always, could manage it myself after his saved game, LOL. The flare bugs kicks in, but the ice wraith gave me enough light to find a Guardian Key. The music in the end got really on my nerves. 24-11-2002" - Gerty (26-Nov-2002)
"Oh my! Part way through this level I sent a message to Bex telling her I was going to kick her ass for suggesting the rest of Emoo's levels (joking of course). What a hair raising experience this one is. And I mean that in a positive sense. I believe the only time you get to take a breath during this excursion into this saga is a moving object puzzle. Circular slicer blades those slicer things that come up out of the ground skeletons demigods spikes chains and of course the water maze. All the time Lara is running for her life encountering danger again and again. This was an action packed 45 minutes loved every minute of it. I never did get rid of that ice wraith followed me to the end." - Momster (21-Nov-2002)
"This is a 40 minutes adventure with high levels of adrenalin by solving puzzles fighting demigods and even Seth himself appears in the end of the level. Lara has to find four Keys of Victory in order to escape from this temple - and each key is relationed to each element. A nice level though it's hard." - Treeble (28-Jul-2002)
"Right from the start you can tell this isn't going to be a walk in the park as you make a mad dash for a timed gate while trying not to kill yourself jumping through a set of rotating slicing blades and when you make it finally you are then faced with having to battle a demigod. The rest of this great 50 minutes level is full of deadly traps and quite easy puzzles that culminates in a health depleting confrontation with 2 demigods a murderous winged demigod and more rotating slicing blades than you can even imagine. So if you're looking for a bit of a challenge then you can't go past this one just make sure to save up as much health as you can till the end or you may regret it." - Sash (21-Jun-2002)
"Quite a trip and a difficult one too so if you are up for challenging traps along an absolutely linear path then go for it. You name it it's there: I counted 14 slicer dicers all sorts of other kinds of blades swinging chains darts rolling balls spikes and after finding and using a vraeus and a star in between you will have to get four guardian keys for the final door. The skeletons and demigods where pretty easy to handle but that fire wraith while jumping the translucent platforms and of course the rope swinging with an angry Seth down there in the room killed poor Lara many many times before I finally made it. At least the two torch and the movables puzzle are simple. I was not overly impressed with the texturing as I found it a little mixed and the repetitive music was rather annoying. The flarebug near the end is not so much a problem though. Good fun for a little over 45 minutes." - Michael (21-Jun-2002)
"A good level throughout quite abundantly filled with traps and difficult puzzles and also some action as there are plenty of gods. The author cleverly uses fixed camera angles to confuse the player. The level builds up tension from beginning to the end and has very creative gameplay. My time: about 1 hour. Unfortunately towards the end I had the flare bug again. More of these levels please Emoo!" - Qwendo (21-Jun-2002)
"A very nice to play level. The textures are superb. Maybe the lighting effects are a bit simple but work. The most important thing to say is the puzzles: very good! Nice traps nice puzzles. You can see this at the beginning of the level: a different pushable block puzzle followed by a time switch with those ugly stargates in the middle to make things harder. A very good level indeed. If you liked The Lost City of Tinnos you will like this one!" - Leandro (21-Jun-2002)
"It has got to be one of the hardest levels I've ever played. It is quite entertaining to see just how many ways we can kill Lara. If you like a challenge then this is the level for you. Remember to save often." - Scott (21-Jun-2002)
"Well I found it a little too hard. I think it will leave the average or poor players in some sort of "the last frustration". ;-) That's why I gave only 8 for the gameplay... but very near to 9! Very nicely textured it is a MUST SEE!" - Webknight (21-Jun-2002)
"A good but not very long level of action with some puzzles and very good traps. The textures from Tinnos are well done. The architecture of the last room is typical of the final boss. Not many enemies but they are dangerous there is happily a lot of pickups. Warning: there is one very hard timed door. The atmosphere is very good." - eRIC (21-Jun-2002)
