Reviewer's comments
"Maybe it was just me who suffered this but at two consecutive parts of the level I encountered a very annoying glitch - namely every time I encountered a rat and became entangled with it. Reloading and shooting rats from a short distance away rectified this but otherwise, the graphics became an ongoing series of psychedelic triangles emanating from a central point of my PC monitor. It was so bad I feared my monitor was about to pack up. But no, it happened again having closed the game down twice at these two points where rats appear. On another occasion (without any rats at all), Lara appeared as thin as a Stick Insect and the entire surrounds were also thinned out. I have no explanation as my monitor is in fine working order (I minimised the game to find background tabs running perfectly). So for this I have had to score the level down on the Texture category - because I assumed the level was designed this way. Other than that, this was a fairly good raid and not too difficult." - High Priestess (30-Jul-2017)
"If you've experienced any of Lukasz's other levels, then you'll know what to expect - cool, upbeat music scores, hordes upon hordes of enemies and lots and lots of action. Having said that, this one was relatively easygoing. This clinic has been infested with alien monsters, guards and giant spiders, so be wary. The only difficult parts I found were trying to fight the giant spiders in confined spaces and a devilish little timed run that was rather tight. Aside from those, it's rather fast- moving, but fun nonetheless." - Ryan (01-Feb-2017)
"This is a rather bizarre level with a lot of enemies. The mood of a lab post-disaster is conveyed by the atmospheric mechanics. Unfortunately, the structure of the level--the room cohesion--appears to be nonexistent. Rooms seem to be build rather haphazardly, which makes it difficult to get into the level entirely. There also isn't much in the way of puzzles or advanced gameplay; a couple of traps towards the beginning, but that's about it. An interesting diversion, but not a must-play." - Xela (29-Jan-2015)
"I haven't played many of this builder's earlier levels, but my attention was drawn to this one by Jesse's recent review. It's fairly short, clocking in at about a half hour, but it's straightforward and fun to play. That timed run at the end needed another half second or so to make it fair to the player, but since the builder has left the flycheat enabled it's an easy matter to fly to the timed doorway and spend another few seconds reaching the finish trigger if you find yourself getting frustrated. Enemies were well spaced and the secrets a bit on the obvious side. Recommended for a rainy afternoon." - Phil (05-Dec-2010)
"30 minutes romping through a spooky disheveled clinic. The atmosphere is quite strong between the lighting, textures, audio, and objects. However, in some places the texturing is too stretched, especially in the large outdoor area, which is also a bit too empty. It was a bit dark in some places, but I had enough flares (or rather, flashlights) that it wasn't a big problem. It is not an expansive level to speak of, but it is still work a look if you're in the mood for a more creepy adventure." - SSJ6Wolf (04-Dec-2010)
"Despite what the readme says, I didn't come across any bug in the level. Gameplay here is quite simple and rather straightforward, what really makes the level shine is the setting. While it looks nothing like your traditional clinic, some of the environments do look like they came right from a health facility (a number of the beds also feature terminal patients, so to speak) and the setting is only enhanced by the audio selection. The grappling gun was underused in my opinion, but it only showed up seconds before the somewhat abrupt end of the level anyway. 25 minutes, 3 secrets. 07/09" - Treeble (26-Jul-2009)
"As this level mostly involves shooting a variety of enemies, it's main attraction is it's atmosphere. The background audio is excellent, and the whole environment just felt 'right'. The choice of textures is also good, although sadly they are occasionally poorly applied, with some terribly stretched areas. Another good choice was that of the objects and enemies used in the level, and the addition of troops to help you out also made the level more entertaining. Sadly, though, there was a little too much shooting and not enough exploration or puzzle solving to do." - Spike (15-Jul-2007)
"This was a short, sweet and fun little alien escapade to venture into and was quite spooky in places too, as you were wandering around this experimental clinic, stumbling over dead bodies, while you are in the process of getting on with your tasks at hand. You will encounter enemies such as mutants, rats, spiders, a flying locust and solders, which all can be eliminated at a fair distance without taking too much damage. Not too many traps involved in this one either, just the use of some buttons and floor levers, finding the hammer (crowbar), the use of a torch and a few other items to find. All in all, its fairly straight forward and easy to complete, but with a fairly tight run at the end of this mission. The textures, layouts, music and lighting was well chosen by the author, which suited the game-play and the environment for this type of alien adventure." - Gill (11-Jun-2006)
"Well, this is a level with weird creatures, long ladders, rats and soldiers plus some spiders. It looks like a lab where experiments take place and all you do is push buttons/switches and open gates. There is the torch to use which doesn't count as a puzzle because you only light a fire nearby. I have nothing more to say about it really. I found three secrets." - Kristina (15-Mar-2006)
"It notices the Lukas' style in this level, hard enemies, simply architecture, cool musics, bad applied textures and shoot, shoot and shoot. I've been playing very well this level from the beginning (it wasn't bad and I think the best level of this builder), even I had find three of the four secrets, but when I arrived to the operations room where the timed run is, I've been trying 20 or 30 times and I couldn't get it, like in a level before this (Slaying In London), so I had to abandone the game. It's a pain that this builder implement so hard timed runs, I don't know if somebody could finish this level, but I'm not going to waste my time doing so many many times the same task. So I had to give a low rate in the gameplay." - Jose (14-Dec-2005)
"There are some pretty impressive looking parts to this lab building, like the room with the mutant and spider behind glass, and the offices cum hospital near the end. But more impressive still is Lara's new action with the torch, the crowbar is now a hammer, and she finds fuses, the Mp5s and grappling gun. There's a short torch puzzle (I mean short), a block to push, and wheels to turn on doors. The decor elsewhere is fine, but there are odd looking textures, including stretched ones, that didn't look great. One large room has a house inside it and looks very plain and bare. The extremely high overhead camera was a suprise though, but it did show that we must get up there on the roof. Enemies are a mix of the unusual kind, mutants, certain soliders (others are friends, but will fire at you if you accidentally shoot them), those black suited robot men we met in the original game, and giant spiders. These spiders will attack the soliders before noticing you so you have some time to run or shoot them. The spiders are not as lethal as the rats. If you let a rat get close enough to Lara to bite her the game crashes the mac, which means you have to restart the computer. So shoot these rodents as soon as Lara targets them. The final enemies are mummys we don't have to worry about, because it's just a mere run past them as part of a timed run to the end of the level. The whole thing is fairly straight forward with some nice new things to look at." - CC (10-Nov-2005)
"At last, sign's of greatness from Lukasz. Although there are plenty of longeurs in this adventure (far too many pick-ups,comparatively unmissable secrets, another mis-judged finish Trigger and a rather 'speed-built' feeling throughout) this adventure has an undoubted zest and playability that his previous levels were generally lacking. There is a nice little storyline presented within the scenario, some most effective use of mood music, and a really challenging Gameplay element (the timed-run Finale, which needs some thought on the part of the player). It's still rather creaky around the edges, with the large outside area in particular being particulaly unconvincing;it nevertheless provided me with 40 minutes of always interesting and occasionally challenging enjoyment, and is currently by far the best of Lukas' levels." - Orbit Dream (08-Nov-2005)
"I have to say I enjoyed this level a lot more than Lukasz' other recent level 'Area in Arizona' but if push comes to shove I'd have to say both these levels pretty much use the same blueprint. By that I don't mean they are copies but that the game and environment all seem to follow a certain theme, easy gaming with buttons and such to trigger and plenty of enemies strewn throughout, the rats if they bite you can screw up the screen so may sure you kill them quick, in a small gaming environment that linearly leads you onwards to the end. This one however just seemed to have a better feel to it and I was taken by surprise when near the end I came across a really tight timed run that actually gave this level a sense of challenge. This level took me just over 30 minutes to complete with 3 of the 4 secrets found." - Sash (01-Nov-2005)
"Oh how lovely, Lara's flares have become a torch and the crowbar is a hammer. Yes, we have another strange but oddly compelling level from this prolific builder. The gameplay is fairly routine, but the atmosphere is splendidly creepy, helped in no small part by good use of sound files, not to mention assorted mutants and monsters and some deliciously lurid lighting. Approximately half an hour of blameless fun." - Jay (26-Oct-2005)
"Not sure about the clinic part but apart of the deaths that Lara caused, you will see many dead soldiers. There are however also soldiers that help Lara, so no need to run around and blast everything in sight. The enemies in here are of a different caliber. It is pretty fast paste and the only hick-up I had was that timed door as there was no indication whatsoever. Find the hammer (crowbar) or else you can't succeed and then it is lever pulling or buttons pushing. There is also the Torch you need to use. You find all kind of weapons and they are adequate enough for all the nasty critters you'll encounter. Loved the way Lara held her own torch. Found 3 secrets. 19-10-2005" - Gerty (26-Oct-2005)
"In the readme (and on site) it is stated that there are bugs in the game. Not really, you can play the level and can also enjoy it lots. It's a really good level as it is absolutely different, very interesting and spooky. The brilliant backround sound emphasizes the atmosphere of "The Clinic of Death" (the title fits!). Some of the enemies - or rather said "creatures" - reminds one of mixtures of Frankenstein, (Jekyll&) Hyde and scurille aliens. The textures could have been better applied in my opinion. Straight forward and nice game, though the timed run at the end was a tad tough. The best level I have played by this author so far." - Tinka (25-Oct-2005)
"Lara starts inside a Clinic...and there are not many things to solve. Use a few switches and avoid a few bad guys. You also see a few soldiers on the beds and others walking around. I liked the sound and the atmosphere. Near the end is a timed door to master which you should manage with a bit of practice. Other than that a bit short. :-(..." - Engelchen Lara (23-Oct-2005)
"Well - that was kind of fun. Short with a very abrupt ending after just over 30 minutes, but full of nice things, like some not so often seen custom objects, a nice catsuit for Lara, a fitting set of enemies (many big spiders) and very good audio that helps create an eerie atmosphere in this 'research centre'. The dead bodies were nicely placed and near the end you even get a timed run that might take a few tries. Good entertainment and an MP-5 and a grappling gun with explosiv ammo to use. Missed one of the four secrets somewhere." - MichaelP (22-Oct-2005)
