Reviewer's comments |
"A short level that will keep you entertained for a few minutes with the classic hunt for items to
use inside the house which will lead to new areas." - alan (30-Dec-2021) |

"Another christmas mansion level for me which started off quite nicely with lovely snowy
outside area to explore and a small pool and then we find a couple of keys before we
get into the house and then once we're in the house its literally find another key, a
switch behind a movable present, a crowbar and finally 3 box presents which after you
place on their tables finishes the level in about 10/15 mins oh dear! i mean i like the
lovely atmosphere, music and nice textures but i was just totally unprepared for the end
trigger after such a short time, i wanted more puzzles, platforming and places to
explore and things to do but i was left rather underwhelmed and disappointed" - John (21-Jun-2021) |

"A rather simplistic but quite placid
Advent level, exploring the mountains and
the mansion for a few keys and presents.
The seasonal Music was a nice touch, but
that's about all you'll find in here, so
don't go in expecting an exhaustive
gameplay experience." - Ryan (15-Aug-2017) |

"I have the feeling those Advent levels got more and more simplistic. This one in particular hasn't got much going on in it, starting with three minutes of running and backtracking in a monotonous landscape before you enter the mansion, where things improve only a bit. No puzzles to solve along the way, just finding and using items. There are a whole lot of debut-like mistakes like cameras that go through walls and can be skipped with the look key, unmarked ladders, generally dull lighting (yet halfway decent texturing at least and a few rooms where the lights are better worked on) and repetitive (yet charming the first time around) audio tracks. I think the builders of those Advent calendar levels made things too easy for them and should've spent more time on the gameplay and also on polishing up their work. Found the sole secret in 10 minutes." - manarch2 (04-Jan-2016) |

"I don't know waht to say about this level. The gameplay wasn't anything special - running around a house looking for keys or buttons. The textures and lighting were good and really created a good atmosphere (along with the music) The camera hints were enough and showed you correctly where to go. I guess you may play this level, but it's nothing new." - misho98 (26-Dec-2011) |

"The most memorable thing about this advent calendar level probably is the audio used to create the Christmassy atmosphere. It works, and that's probably the only thing you really should play the level for as there really are no puzzles as such - you run around in search of keys, presents, a crowbar and a cross (and some coins for a secret if you manage to find it) - initially in an outside area and then in the house, where the biggest chunk of action takes place. Alas - it's a fairly brief experience adding up to 15 or so minutes of gaming time till you have done everything there is to do. There are some glitches like the missing names for puzzle items, a fly-by going through the wall, or railings disappearing from the house's top floor after you've done some things probably due to an error when making a flipmap, but at worst they just make it look a bit like a rushed effort, and won't detract much from your overall enjoyment if you just played it as a short level demonstrating a festive atmosphere. And that's probably the best way to play it." - eTux (30-Oct-2007) |

"Too short, that's why the low rate on gameplay, barely a few things to do, and the level ends, or rather crashes. But the atmosphere is very good, especially with the Silent Night music. The house looks great, lots of decorations, pictures on the walls, and objects. The outside area looks good too, even if it was boring to run through it, without much to do. There are doors we couldn't open, I've got a feeling this is just a demo, but it's not. Still, in the Christmas season, it was a pleasant few minutes." - Akcy (09-Jan-2007) |

"This is very short, about fifteen minutes tops and has three presents, three keys and a cross to get hold of. The setting outside is nice but there are no puzzles really, still a nice atmosphere to play in. I found one secret." - Kristina (05-Mar-2006) |

"Lara travels to the house of a swiss friend of her to find three missing presents and put them under the christmas-tree. We are adventuring in the mountains, then in a wonderfully furnished house. Unfortunately, many of the doors remains closed; I would have gladly looked round in those too. We need the pistols, because we have to shoot some objects, and we need the crowbar too. I found one secret; a mound of golden coins. It was a short, easy adventure; a pleasant recreation before christmas. You can find a Hungarian walkthrough (as we don't have English version), savegames and pictures here: http://treditor.hu/16/searching_for_presents.htm" - Obig (25-Jan-2006) |

"Well sadly this was over too soon, and I am still wondering if there was meant to be a second level to this? Lara begins outside on a snowy path and makes her way to the outside of a mansion. Once there she uses a button and then returns to the path to find a key in a pool. This opens the way to the mansion, and then in the courtyard there is the key to find to enter the mansion itself. This is really where the level starts as you enter this pretty little place and rummage through the rooms for the crow bar, a cross and three presents which you will place on tables to open the way out. The atmosphere was lovely, there is a sweet Silent Night song being sung throughout, and it all had a nice Christmassy feel to it. The rooms were nicely decorated, and I found one secret. There are no enemies of course as this is a Christmas level, and although it was very short, it was a pleasurable relaxing play." - Moonpooka (18-Jan-2006) |

"This would be another good little level for the kiddies - very short and straightforward. It's mainly a house level, but there isn't a great deal of exploring to do and you just need to find the odd key, a cross and three presents before the level ends, rather abruptly. I thought it would be a two part level as there were two TR4 files with the download, but I couldn't get part two to load. Still, I don't think it harms the overall game and the seasonal music is most pleasant, with a particularly haunting version of Silent Night." - Jay (10-Jan-2006) |

"A short level with no much history. You'll have to look for three presents in order to open the final door where there are... some guns and ammo!?! Easy and few tasks, only shoot some objects and place some keys and objects. Simply architecture, few sounds, well cameras and textures, when Lara is underwater you can hear strange sounds. A level easy to play." - Jose (09-Jan-2006) |

"A short sharp 15 minute level where you won't find a great deal of challenge, but as an advent level this is to be allowed. Find your way into a house after a long snowy trail and collect 3 presents to place on some tables around a xmas tree. I hear there may be a secret in this level but I couldn't find it and after spending just as long as the level took to play looking for it I gave up." - Sash (07-Jan-2006) |

"A short, but sweet level is presented to us as Momo's contribution to the Advent Calendar 2005. Lara has been invited to a friend's house to find three gifts scattered around the mansion. And a pretty house it is, only too bad that the level is so short. The three presents aren't very difficult to find and the only other pickups I could find were some flares. I found no secrets at all so if there are any they were well hidden. The textures are nice, but I found quite a few parts with missing textures. Apart from the presents Lara must also find some keys to open various doors in the mansion. The level was very linear and easy and could have been a bit more challenging." - Selene (07-Jan-2006) |

"A short Advent level, you start outside running through a path in the snow to eventually reach a house. There was one key well hidden here that I only found because of Ian's tip - do pay attention on the flyby. Inside the house you must find three presents, one of which you get right near the end. There are a few problems here, like a camera flying through a wall, some textures wrongly rotated and right in the beginning of the level you can reach the end of the world, but overall this was one enjoyable level. You also get to listen to Silent Night while you're outside, which I thought was a lovely idea. 15 minutes, 1 secret. 12/05" - Treeble (25-Dec-2005) |

"I don't know how this played for everyone else, but I had a number of
problems. Lara runs along a lovely snowy path to a house (a beautiful
version of Silent Night plays throughout), finds a key to get inside, opens a
door to the attic, finds a switch to open the basement and trigger a flyby. In
the flyby we can see the open door to a colourful room with trees and
presents. The gift you find in the basement, when placed on a pedestal in
this room, will end the level immediately. But if you follow the flyby and
return to the attic you will find the crowbar that allows Lara to take a cross
off the wall and place it. This way she finds two gifts to place. But while
she's been upstairs the bannisters have vanished in what I assume is a
hiccup in the flipmapped room. The flyby itself swings out into no man's
land. All in all this seems like an unfinished level. Even so, it was nice, if
very short, so have a go while you are waiting for your Christmas dinner." - CC (23-Dec-2005) |

"So far this is the shortest of the Advent levels. The Silent Night is always a pleasure to hear and the search for the presents was quick. 18-12-2005" - Gerty (23-Dec-2005) |

"Boy this is one is short and sweet. As soon as you get warmed up to it,
you are done. Lara finds her way into a large building and has to find a
few things in order to get to the presents. The building is textured with
random bits and pieces, and lacks a sense of design. The gameplay is
quick and easy. Nice little level for those moments when you just want to
relax." - Duncan (22-Dec-2005) |
|
"A placid and likeable little level, which the occasional 'dodgy bit' can't really spoil. The hiding place for the 2nd key was well thought-out(in fact, the fly-by clue spoilt it somewhat)and the Mansion had a curiously ornate interior which worked rather well. Everything needed a little more polish; but,as a modest christmas treat,it all worked rather well." - Orbit Dream (22-Dec-2005) |
|
"One of the smaller levels of the Advent Calendar at just above 15 minutes. I am not quite sure about why the long run at the start (and even less about the backtrack for the key), but I sure liked the Silent Night audio that went along with it. The house is thankfully small, so the searching for the keys, crowbar and cross and eventually the three presents you are after won't keep you busy for too long. The flybys go through walls on occasion and the whole setting in the house looks a bit mixed up, but it still is a fun little level for the season." - MichaelP (18-Dec-2005) |
