Reviewer's comments
"I'm thankful this exists because I want to review one level a day to try and catch up and with a full time job it's increasingly harder to wrap up a level in a single sitting, especially when you have that same limited free time to split into a dozen different hobbies. On the flip side, while you can see the inspiration for the areas in this demo they hardly look alike. Some high quality textures mixed in with standard TR3 textures made it look odd, plus all objects seemed to lack collision (as far as I bothered to check anyway). 5 minutes. 01/22" - Treeble (09-Jan-2022)
"Better looking but disappointing. Two thirds of the original map were trimmed down and all is left is just a very scarse intro, I can say it looked interesting the usage of many trees, but overall ended up annoying me only, do we want to talk about the crashing also? Heh, all in all this is inferior than the previous. Play it if you are interested into seeing what he author changed up. Wolfy Regards." - Wolf7 (15-Mar-2021)
"Koldo improves on version 1 by cutting the map down to the first third (removing all traces of gameplay in the process) and by hiding the boxiness of his room geometry behind oodles of greenery which obstruct your vision. New arrivals include crashes to desktop, scrolling-texture artefacts on the horizon, and blinding fog underwater. He also reduced and defanged the only thing that worked in version 1, the traps (only two remain, and these you can indeed simply stroll past). I don’t see how Ryan can claim that this is ‘slightly longer’ than version 1, since it obviously isn’t. Whatever. The hilarity is gone, and this is merely bad. ‘Version 2’ of a TRLE ‘demo’ release may well be the most pointless thing I’ve come across in these pages." - Mulf (20-Jan-2021)
"Another short trip through Ghana, slightly longer than the previous. It's still rather sloppy, though and the outside areas are rather bland and the foliage made it hard to see at times. The game did crash once in the first area, which was slightly annoying. A few useless ropes and harmless traps later and the level abruptly finishes." - Ryan (04-Feb-2017)
"An even shorter re-creation of TR Legend's Ghana level that may have slightly better texturing, but besides that, this is generally much worse than the v1.0 release in practically every way unfortunately(with excessive amounts of foliage blocking the way forward and bizarre out-of-place animated textures float above the starting area, among the new issues present.) So in conclusion, don't even waste your time on this one and check out something else a lot more substantial." - Ceamonks890 (29-Jun-2015)
"Gameplay gets 1 point. Wanted to give 2, but couldn't due to the unfinished gameplay parts (e.g. the useless ropes). You can hardly see something through the dense forest, but IMO this is how the jungle should look like. So I can give 1 point for the objects. Also, I really like the lighting - for me, it's awesome. Textures would be rated as "pretty", but in several places they are misplaced, look like wallpaper or aren't applied at all, what lowers my rating to "average". All of the mentioned elements work together to create realistic and convincing atmosphere worth 2 points. Unfortunately, cameras last for too short to give any point for them, but great sound increases the overall score for AS&C to 3. Wanted to give 4, but couldn't due to misplacement of shooting baddy sound. SUMMARY: When I hit finish trigger, I was really surprised this is the end indeed. The level can be a great prologue of something bigger and better. Shame it's not finished. I hope the author releases version 3.0. You can play this level. Even if it's unfinished, you can admire the lighting. However, keep in mind it's a very unstable level. At least on my PC, the waterfall area crashes in every 2 minutes. So if you pick this custom, SAVE the game often and regularly." - DJ Full (25-Oct-2010)
"Waste of time for the builder as well for the player. Every time you use the look key the games crashes. Also building a few room and putting numerous plants and trees in it and call it Ghana, that is beyond me." - Gerty (17-Sep-2010)
"Better in texturing than Ghana but much much worse in gameplay. It is a lot shorter but it has a finish trigger. Gameplay is linear and the big outdoor areas are not done well. Not recommended." - Cory (28-Apr-2008)
"Not my favorite, of course. Signs of a starter, but the water textures were half decent, the person must watch out for how short or long he/she makes the levels. Overall, it is not very good." - Vaughnage (08-Dec-2007)
"A short level that only took me a few minutes to complete, and contained the famous swan dive off the cliff, a few spike traps and also a gunman to shoot down. There was not much at all to do here in terms of gameplay, and the texturing and lighting was also of the same low quality. A poor level, with very little reason to play it." - Spike (20-Jul-2007)
"I just don't see the point in this release. The builder would do far better to have the level tested privately and gain feedback that way. OK I can see how he's tried to recreate the path of the Legend Ghana level, but it's done very simplistically with boxy architecture and landscape. The waterfall's look like some mining company's been in and sheered all the tops of the mountains off, and hand me the heavy duty shades - the glare from those waterfalls is blinding me. This is a 5 minute stroll through some well-greened areas with poorly applied textures. Traps were too easy to bypass. The ropes were pointless, as you could simply swim across the water areas and pull out at the other side. As a demo it definitely needs a huge amount of work before it could be considered a proper level. The builder needs to work on making his landscapes look more organic and less boxy." - EssGee (16-Mar-2007)
"Although there IS technically an element of Gameplay in here,I forfeited a score in this category as it can be easily avoided. The waterfalls weren't bad,but everything else is completely mis-judged or poorly assembled;which makes the whole thing an 'oh dear' level. Play the full version of 'Madubu Gorge' by this builder, instead;it's much better." - Orbit Dream (12-Feb-2007)
"I haven't played TR Legend yet. So I can't make any comparisons between this level and the Ghana level in TR Legend. The author made some progress in certain aspects of level building, but he still needs to work on other aspects of the level. While some elements contributed to the atmosphere of the level (the sounds and the volumetric effects), the quality of the gameplay wasn't as good as the author's previous version of Ghana because there were more traps and enemies in the first version than in the second one. The textures still need improvement, the ropes seemed to be placed for decorative and every time I try to press the look button, the game crashes to the desktop. I noticed that the load screen bar color was different, the boulder caught me by surprise (after I activated a switch), and Lara had an interesting life bar. At the beginning of the demo, I had the impression that Lara was really in a jungle because I had trouble seeing her in that lush greenery, but the end was very abrupt after I jumped over the spikes." - Sakusha (04-Sep-2006)
"This is five minutes long with one enemy to shoot, useless ropes because you can walk/swim or climb on the other side when needed and the textures are not good nor is the lighting. In other words, this is another demo which serves no purpose and it's better if the builder would create the full level and pay more attention to the setting, instead of creating a number of demos every time." - Kristina (12-May-2006)
"Hmm, I'm not sure how much point there is to remaking a demo. OK, in fairness it is better than version one, but I still wouldn't rave. It's messy and very, very short and there's hardly any gameplay. There were several ropes hanging about the place, but they didn't seem to serve any function so I just ignored them. Worth the download? Not really." - Jay (20-Apr-2006)
"I've got a problem in the first big area, when I pressed the "Ins" key to look around the game crashes; I fixed this problem using the original "tomb4.exe" file. Sometimes when you move Lara, nearby textures disappear and you see all in black. In certain places there are missed textures. What do you need the ropes in the water passage? What's the purpose of the button with the falling rock? This new version of "Ghana" seems to be better than the previous, ambience is good, and I liked sounds and cameras, but it's too much short to have a real opinion." - Jose (20-Mar-2006)
"Nice unfinished 6 minute 'level'. As this is just a demo, don't expect to be able to really play here. The waterfalls look good and the lighting + fog in the water is nice but the textures are quite stretched. (You also see the animated water textures in mid air.) After the waterfall area you enter a kind of cave with a very good atmosphere, the lighting and textures are well done and placed. If the former area had been created like the latter, my scores for atmosphere and textures would have been higher. So, please work on this, Koldo, and make sure there's a gameplay and some 'real' enemies/traps in the level next time. ;) I think it's a good work and I'm looking forward to the release of the real level." - Tinka (19-Mar-2006)
"Well, it is better than the first demo in the sense that it feels a little more real, has a certain atmosphere to it, but it is still only a big mish-mash of textures, too many greenery objects at the start and virtually nothing to do in the 6 minutes you spend here. The ropes are useless, the traps are harmless and there is one enemy to shoot. I dare suggest the author really works on a full scale level instead of releasing a demo v3.0." - MichaelP (16-Mar-2006)
"I'm sorry, if this was supposed to be an improvement on the first Ghana level from this author then I think they failed. I don't know where to start saying what I didn't like, there's the mass of jungle trees at the beginning that made vision practically impossible, the game crashed in the waterfall area when I used the look button, again in the waterfall area I looked into the sky and saw hovering moving textures that were obviously not supposed to be there, there are ropes over water that are unnecessary as you can just swim, the last half of the 8 minutes it took to play were in almost pitch blackness but at this point there is nothing to see anyway. Again I'm sorry, I really did not like this demo and think the author's first attempt at Ghana should be the one they stick with." - Sash (14-Mar-2006)
"As the title indicates this is indeed a demo. In every aspect possible I might add. I only played the first version up until the game crashed as I used the look button in the waterfall area. Some people say they have encountered the same problem in this version as well, but I was luckily spared for that. All in all there is very little to do in this level. After performing the typical swimming, jumping and climbing you get to pick up some ammo and shoot one bad guy. There are also some traps at the end, which undoubtedly was the highlight of this 9 minute adventure despite the fact that they are painstakingly easy to get through without health loss and the level ends as Lara leaps across some spikes. No secrets and apart from the mentioned pickup there's very little else to do here. Some ropes are thrown in for measure, but they are there only for the looks of it as Lara can get along very well without them. Textures are misplaced in some areas and there's very little sound, but in average a fair use of lights. The leaves of the trees in the starting area got in the way everywhere as it was impossible to see through them and it was a bit of a relief to get out of that area. The waterfalls seemed to be cut off in midair and all in all this appeared to be a mini-version of one of the many TR:Legend trailers. Which considering the title probably is the point anyways. Could be interesting to see how the full game turns out to be. Try it out if you have 10 minutes to spare, otherwise you might consider waiting for the full release." - Selene (07-Mar-2006)
