Reviewer's comments
"This level was fantastic if you are looking for a challenge, I found it difficult having limited pistol Ammo (I know most people will disagree with me on this) I loved it, Alot of levels are really easy and sometimes limiting ammo to add a bit of difficulty is a good idea in my opinion. The I would have given a higher score but some of the sounds and enemies animations did seem a little bit odd, but other than that i had a great time shooting T-Rexes and Bigs birds. - 30/40" - JoeTheCrazyGamer (24-May-2020)
"Like another reviewer I am afraid that reluctantly, I have had to mark this a 5 all the way due to my inability to complete it. If the evident bugs could be fixed I would happily return and would probably rate this higher. However I found myself rather taxed when I too encountered the T-Rex cage. The first attempt after using the key and pressing a switch saw the cage disappear until I went off in search of a missed pick-up (flares I think). Thereafter the cage was back again meaning I could not enter the enclosure. Thinking it had been a timed affair, I returned to the wall alcove only to find the switch was still depressed (much like I was becomming at this point with no pistol ammo and limited shotgun shells). I reloaded yet another save and went through the motions all over again. This time I didn't save my game UNTIL I was in the T-Rex enclosure. I got the pick-ups then pulled the JS which made the cage vanish again but as soon as I killed the dinosaur and collected the key, the cage reappeared - rendering me stuck in the enclosure with a thug on the other side. Shame as I would have liked to have continued with this level - it showed promise." - High Priestess (11-Oct-2017)
"This 50 minute shooter level is one of Lukasz's earliest and while it isn't as advanced or as varied as his later efforts, the talent is still visible. It's been a long, long time since I last played the original Nightmare in Vegas, so it was nice seeing those colourful textures again. However, there's not much to do but shoot gangs of thugs, dogs, big birds and a T-Rex. Puzzles are nonexistent and the levels got a bit predictable. If you like shooters, then this isn't a bad choice, but it's not really my kind of thing." - Ryan (20-Nov-2016)
"I guess the pun is intended, but with Lukasz levels you get a real bang for your buck. This is a three-parter with a lot of thug shooting, a lot of armament and ammo, and a few keys to find in between so you can open doors and progress. The last level is a short boss fight with a bunch of those giant chickens. I wondered what the laser sight was for, up until the very end where you have to combine it with your desert eagle and shoot a lock to activate the finish trigger. Six secrets alongs the way. Lots of action, nothing really memorable, but a fun way to use up 90 minutes or so of your spare time. The colors and textures seem put together quite competently, hence my higher scores." - Phil (14-Jun-2011)
"I was pleasantly surprised with this three level set, after all I left this author's other Vegas offering quite disappointed. In his own way, I feel that he made up for that level with this release. The level starts off in street alleys, then slowly progresses into hotel like environments and reaches its aphex with the nostalgia factor as you revisit areas brought from TR2 under different dressing with enough gameplay changes to be more than a remake or a rip off. The finish triggers are quite unusual too, such as levels finishing when you pick up a key or shooting a padlock on a wall (lol?), and you do get to face off a vast horde of enemies with limited pistol ammo but more than enough weaponry is given to you. The only thing that spoiled it somewhat was a fall through grass floor in the first level that would drop you into a hotel bedroom, which was just way too random, but still, this felt like a quite enjoyable and very action packed level set. 50 minutes, 6 secrets. 07/09" - Treeble (27-Jul-2009)
"Actually I like Lukasz' levels very much (especially his provided brilliant sounds) but this level is the worst in my opinion. (Really sorry to mention that.) But I also have to admit that I didn't play it to the end, as I was not able to exit the dino cage. Tried it with various savegames for way more than 50 minutes but now I have enough. (I guess I killed the dino now a hundred times. lol.) Sometimes the fence was there, sometimes it wasn't but either way when trying to exit the cage, the fence reappeared again and there was no way out... Where's the fun in that.) The atmosphere is rather ok but it's just too dark and it's no fun at all when you have to light a flare every few seconds. The textures could have been better chosen. I liked the limited ammo but actually that's all I liked. Sorry." - Catherin (02-Aug-2006)
"I don't like this kind of levels where you get a Venice theme with agent textures and Lara from the old games, it's just too old and uninteresting as far as I am concerned. There are the usual thugs to shoot, a vulture, a fish and many keys to get. All those enemies got to my nerves and were unnecessary, so were all those weapons and ammo even though you get some hard to die huge birds in the last level. I found six secrets and got a bit bored with this one." - Kristina (12-May-2006)
"It's nice to see TR2 Lara again, complete with the"ah has". Be aware that you are starting this level with limited pistol ammo and fewer than usual medipacks. Luckily, there are plenty of pickups along the way to assist with bumping off the legions of thugs lying in wait for you. On the plus side, I certainly enjoyed seeing some of the Nightmare in Vegas textures and settings again - it's always been one of my favourites of the official levels. On the minus side, I'm not a big fan of shooters and this could never be mistaken for anything else. The third part is particularly hairy, with several of those huge Tallion monsters that I couldn't seem to kill despite having an extensive armoury stashed in my backpack. Still, I gained a certain amount of enjoyment from this level and if you are a fan of shooters then I would recommend it." - Jay (27-Apr-2006)
"An hour of wild shooting spread across three parts (25+25+10 min.). I counted more than 60 enemies along the way, most of them baddies, some shooting, some just trying to club Lara to death. Lara is present in her TR2 version including the 'aha' when you pick something up and you do get to pick up many, many things indeed (mainly ammo for the whole arsenal of weapons that is at your disposal). There is an occasional nice flyby, a short and a longer timed run in part 2 and what I liked most was to hunt for the six secrets and the battle with the tough big birds was kind of fun." - MichaelP (23-Apr-2006)
"This feels much more like a complete level than recent Lukasz levels I've played, with a fair amount of action and exploring, even if most of that is shooting an army of enemies. There are the usual thugs, gunmen, rats, white tigers, vulture, and one of those pike fish with teeth. Later it's the TRex (if you can get at it), and those huge stomping birds that try to thump Lara senseless. Luckily the level is littered with weapons and ammo to deal with all this. This borrows a lot from Nightmare in Vegas, and includes some rooms very much in keeping with the original Venice level. So this has a good TR2 feel to it (my favourite game of all), with the same weapons, keys, and Lara herself. I like the way she looks around if she stands still for a while. For a moment I thought Lara would not climb around a corner, but she does. And I like the TR2 sounds, but Lara seems to have a bad cold in this one. One major bug is the TRex cage. On the mac the cage just wouldn't open, on pc's I believe you can get in, but not back out again. To play this at all I had to use the original scripts. The second and third levels run smoothly into each other, so no problem there. Another buggy place is entering the lift. If you don't have the two pieces to put into the wall you're stuck there forever. There are some good looking rooms here, like the black and white block room with white piano and matching push buttons and swinging spike bag up on the beams. The weird part was falling through grass into a hotel room . . . a new gimmick to attract customers perhaps! Lol. The ending is strange, but at least there is a finish trigger, and I wasn't sure if that last gunman was a friend or not. I had spent every minute in this level shooting anything that moved that I didn't give him to chance to prove me wrong. Well done Lukasz." - CC (18-Apr-2006)
"Vegas, well mini Vegas and probably the darkest corner of it. Lots of hoodlums that are bothering Lara, so in a way not so much as an adventure but more a slaughterhouse. Apart from the hoodlums there are also tigers on the loose and one mean T-rex. There is also a bug alert as the cage of the T-rex doesn't work properly and that is with the included TR4.exe. So go figure. What do I care if my health bar has a different colour and I hated the limited ammo, what nonsense. And it is also unfair to the Mac players, as they can't use that particular TR4. 29-03-2006" - Gerty (17-Apr-2006)
"This is a 'shooter' that comes with a surprise: the ammo is not unlimited in Lara's (used to be)trusty pistols. More can be found and picked up but the inexhaustable supply is gone. With the new Tomb 4 exe. comes a new Health bar that was a bit difficult(for me) to distinquish: red on pink or pink on red...whatever. The good thing about so many enemies is that Lukasz made sure to give us a lot of goodies when they were taken out. Double check for pick ups before you leave an area. There's a lot of them. Got most of the secrets but I think I missed out on an area I could not find a way get into. As much as bugs were discussed, I did not encounter any. The Dino gave up the Key and I left without a problem. Short but fun and if you like shooters, you'll have a good time. And yes, Lara has her trademark 'AHA'." - Bene (29-Mar-2006)
"Oh God Mother;Mother.Blood! Blood!! We should be grateful that Lukasz gives us a substantial adventure (nearly an hours gameplay) but did it have to be so relentlessly violent? The textures are far too vibrant;the atmosphere, while aping TR2,lacks the majesty required. The enemies are remorseless but predictable. And the bugs...oh,the bugs! Shooting the T-Rex is the least of your problems;escaping from its enclosure is well-nigh impossible due to a flip-map bug.Enter an Elevator without having first acquired the fuses and there's no way out. The Exe file that comes with the game may or may not allow you to complete the three levels. Despite the leangth, this is not Lukasz' best. Not even close. But if you enjoy relentless bloodshed you may care to give it a go.(Take some Valium first, though)." - Orbit Dream (27-Mar-2006)
"There are 3 levels in this return to Vegas for Lara, and just like the first time she was here thanks to Lukasz there are enemies at every turn. If this isn't bad enough your pistols have only limited ammo reserves so you can't count on them to help you through, but with the masses of weaponry and ammo around you shouldn't have any trouble getting to the end in one piece. Apart from the obligatory thugs and shooters you also have some of the animal kingdom to deal with, white tigers (will Siegfried and Roy just keep these guys locked up), a T-Rex, and some giant bird monsters that take quite a licking and almost keep on ticking. Apart from thinking that the lack of pistol ammo may have been a bug (thank you Vimmers for pointing out my stupidity), I came across a real bug in the form of the T-Rex cage wall coming back after I got rid of it and this then made it impossible to get back out of the cage, so I had to start from the start again and this time I was lucky not to come across it, just be careful to reload once inside the cage as this may have something to do with it. I can't say this was a great lot of fun for me as it was pretty much just all about the shooting and for an hour this starts to really tire on a girl, so if you're into that sort of thing and don't mind a slightly chaotic looking world to play in then this will be right up your alley. I found all 6 secrets." - Sash (27-Mar-2006)
