Reviewer's comments
"Touching idea behind the creation of this level, even if it doesn't quite work in-game (I mean, Lara is filthy rich, she could just as well sign a check and give some dignity to all of the homeless people instead of playing Robin Hood and breaking and entering into a variety of stores for presents lol). Still, it's a fun looking small city plaza as you search for the presents and a handful of levers and keys along the way. 25 minutes, 2 secrets. 03/22" - Treeble (06-Mar-2022)
"A good theme for a xmas level this one, finding and collecting gifts in the local shops, department stores and sewers in order to give those homeless and less fortunate people who live down there. Unfortunately gameplay wise it was disappointing because of lack of any interesting puzzles or tasks, i mean yes there is a lot of running around in and out of buildings, a timed run and even a short motorbike ride but apart from that for me there just wasnt anything fun to do as a lot of tasks revolved around finding items or pushing lots of boxes around to find levers. Like i say i commend the story or theme and the visuals are fine when it comes to exploring around in especially in the city areas but at the end of the day personally it was a bit too dull and lacked in variety in terms of gameplay" - John (30-Dec-2021)
"This is a bittersweet level which uses musical cues and the visual contrast between lush interiors of big shops and the drab underground in order to tell a story. I enjoyed solving the puzzles (needed to do some thorough exploration to find all the ways to break into the department stores and acquire presents to give to the homeless). The secrets were rather easy to find. I liked this level so much that I will probably replay it next Christmas." - carolinux (05-Jan-2021)
"This is a Christmas level with a commercial yet heartwarming message: giving presents to those less fortunate than us. The gameplay involved in acquiring those presents is very simple, breaking into various designer stores, moving a few boxes, negotiating a small timed run and swimming in the sewers (an added bonus of city levels, seemingly) but for the season, it's rightly nothing too strenuous and the city is quite attractive. A real tonic." - Ryan (04-Nov-2017)
"I have been refreshing the home page a loy lately to discover levels I have previously missed and that appeal to me. I adore Christmas levels and city/urban style gameplay so didn't hesitate to download this. The timed run is generous so no real challenges aside from my missing a present initially having not realised I could shimmy around to a second alcove from the first one. Disappointed that I couldn't deliver the gifts personally as the VT showed a route to the homeless which I thought I was going to be following. Loved the obligatory supermarket trollies :D Nice touch and a thoughtful level to remind us that not everyone has either a family or a home to provide comfort in this somewhat increasingly commercialised season." - High Priestess (09-Oct-2016)
"Cute level that could've been better if released this year with all the new objects available now. I like the idea of Lara looking for presents for the poor in different stores but the stores on the inside look empty and the texturing could've been better. It's colorful in contrast of the outside and cellar areas but doesn't work too good. Gameplay was fun - not a big fan of the mini-maze and the underwater areas but entering the Armani store trough a grate behind a parked car was a nice idea. I also like the use of the motorcycle in the end and the ending cutscene is heartwarming. Found the two secrets, both nicely hidden but not too hard to locate, 30 minutes of gameplay. Not a bad offer from the builder, but the ideas are better than the actual level." - misho98 (25-Dec-2015)
"A very interesting concept and a stricking contrast, Lara steals from the rich to give to the poor in this Christmas level. I found the whole atmosphere to be a lackluster, gray tones and neutral colours didn't suit my taste and I was hoping for a better design. What was really rewarding for me was the ending, I found it to be satisfying and thought-provoking." - young Lara Croft (14-Feb-2015)
"It's a Christmas theme;it's an Agnes level;it therefore stands to reason that it's going to be a charming and creative little adventure.Nonetheless, this occasionally bows to some design weaknesses that might ordinarily be forgiven in a seasonal level of this type:the implausible room and corridor layouts for the interior of the buildings in this externally well-designed little city, which must make it a hellish place to live for the inhabitants - accessing plush department stores, not by opening a door but by blasting out only one of their otherwise bulletproof windows.Or being able to reach a garage only by discovering the whereabouts of a motorbike,as the pavements suddenly acquire severe gradients that pedestrians would find impossible to walk up.Many of the interiors consist only of stony maze-like corridors or underwater labyrinths, which don't do much to visually lift the adventure.Despite these irritations, the level does well to carry a story and a message ("if there are people who are doing without at Christmas,it's perfectly acceptable to rob plush Dolce and Gabanna stores in order to provide them with gifts");and the texturing, sound and cameras are applied with great skill in order to bring all of this about. It's creative and often fun - but don't expect too much gameplay logic!" - Orbit Dream (30-Dec-2012)
"Yes, the idea for this level was rather cute and yes, I really liked the way the city was constructed and those stores looked really, really nice - but honestly I found the level to be a bit overrated. The gameplay in the first half of the level mostly involves shooting a lot of items like the windows - the shatterable ones looked like every other window, so players might try to shoot one of them - in vain - and then forget about every other window. Not really great. Apart from the partly very obscure objects, the gameplay isn't particularly memorable or fun, as when you enter the different stores, you are able to pick up the various items and leave again. The gameplay momentum picks up slightly in the second half with a few short block puzzles, a fairly tricky timed run and a few mazes that even I didn't find annoying. It all ends with a short bike ride that nicely let the players have access to other, normally inaccessible areas and a lovely concluding cutscene, but I felt more than a little want after only 20 minutes. Found two secrets that were surely placed as an afterthought because they didn't require careful exploration to find them." - manarch2 (22-Jul-2012)
"I'm going back to play some of the higher rated levels that I somehow missed the first time around. This one is a pleasant diversion that's certainly in keeping with the Christmas spirit. Lara explores a downtown area for a bunch of presents that she distributes at the end among those who are less advantaged. Harry has provided his customary "just the facts" walkthrough. A perfect half hour raid to be played any time of the year, to give you a smile if you're feeling down." - Phil (31-Mar-2011)
"What a lovely idea for a Christmas level - giving presents to those less fortunate. So in this town of expensive shops, stores, fashion boutiques, glossy posters, we find presents to give to the poor. I'd like to think that Lara actually bought these, but then again it wouldn't be TR, now would it? On the other hand, perhaps the owners of the shops have left the presents for Lara to pick up, but not that easily! Finding the presents is fairly straight forward. Well, except for the most obvious one. I always manage to get the harder to find items, but trip over the easy ones right under my feet. I particularly liked how we find the bike and drive it all over the place. A very nice level that shows us the 'other side of the track'." - CC (20-Mar-2007)
"I always enjoy Agnes' children levels and this one, a reminder that sharing and giving are at the heart of what the Christmas celebration is meant to be was all joy. With no enemies, good gameplay and with a few nicely hidden crawl spaces and a shimmy it took me a while to see plus a motor bike, it's a level children can have fun playing. The gold block ceiling in the Armani building is dazzling and the bluesy music adds an atmospheric melancholy to the gathering of gifts for the homeless. The last song, 'Silver Bells', "Christmas in the City" as Lara is with the homeless on the streets was the right ending adding an emotional touch. Nicely done, Agnes." - Bene (01-Mar-2007)
"A beautiful level for a beautiful purpose. If you shoot all you think can be shootable you'll not have problems. I always miss some traps, enemies and danger, but it's a christmas level (what can we expect!), secrets were very easy for me, and an excellent environment as usualy in this author, you'll find new textures, new objects, nice musics and an emotional animation at the end. A short level you must play." - Jose (06-Feb-2007)
"This is a 'cute' level with a nice setting but short. You will see many expensive stores around with known brands like Versace, D&G and Armani etc. You have to find 6 gifts to open the door that will allow you to exit the level. There is a short bike ride to access a door at some point in the level. It's worth taking a look at." - Kristina (18-Jan-2007)
"What a fantastic spin on Christmas! Lara's job is to collect tucked-away Christmas gifts to bring to the homeless of the city. This level is a beautiful representation of a run-down urban environment at Xmas time. It's not terribly long, but there's plenty of substance. It's definitely worth playing at least just to see the animation at the end. There's really only a couple critiques that came to mind at all: (1) i wish there had been more of the level in use. When you're walking around on the streets, it looks as if there *could* be so many more places to go and so many more parts of the buildings that could be involved in the gameplay. It seems liked the amount of places you actually go and do stuff didn't equal the "bigness" of the environment's appearance. (2) i'm not sure a couple of the music choices were the best. but none of them were *bad* though. the jazzy xmas music that played in the department stores and at the end was fantastic. All around GREAT Christmas level!" - drguycrain (16-Jan-2007)
"A level with a message - nicely done. You raid through all the fancy stores in a city environment collecting five presents and then bring them to the homeless so that they have a nice Christmas as well. The final flyby is truly a highlight, the 30 minutes of raiding before are solidly done but nothing too spectacular. It always bugs me when only a few windows shatter while all the others are solid as a rock. Apart from that you get to push a few things around, there is a timed run and some swimming and I found the running through the dark and empty cellar areas a bit dull. Still it is short and sweet, so worth a try during the season." - MichaelP (15-Jan-2007)
"The story if this level is very touching, Lara collects gifts for those who really need them. And she does it from fancy shops, kinda like Robin Hood, redistributes the goods in a more righteous fashion. So being destructive was enjoyable this time. Very nice textures, posters of real companies, and Justin Timberlake (lol), the contrast between the two worlds is evident. Don't miss this level, it's a reminder of what Christmas is all about." - Akcy (14-Jan-2007)
"Indeed this small adventure let Lara pick up presents to bring to the homeless. In the search of those presents I finally got inside the shops I normally don't go and never will, even after this adventure. But it is the thought that counts here and Agnes had the right Christmas spirit IMO" - Gerty (09-Jan-2007)
"I was already awaiting the level of Agnes, and it did not disappoint me also this time. :) The adventure takes place in a city, where you have to collect 6 presents that you will finally take to the people living under the city, in sewers and cellars, so that they can also have a little love at Christmas. There are 2 secrets on the level. You can't get stucked on this level, but you have to explore everything carefully. Sometimes you have to ransack shop-windows, and sometimes you have to push crates in order to get to the roof. You also have to watch for cracklings in the wall. There are no enemies, only ourselves. :) Agnes created a great adventure for us also this time, with great textures, wonderful sounds, suggesting to take care about these socially disadvantaged people at least at this beautiful feast. Merry Christmas for you too, Agnes! :) You can find a Hungarian walkthrough (as we don't have English version), savegames and pictures here: http://treditor.hu/16/christmas_for_everybody.htm" - Obig (20-Dec-2006)
"Cristmas levels are so nice in this time of the year and show us that even Lara has time to think of her loved ones. In this case, Lara decides to help the ones in need by putting a smile on their faces. She takes (it's not stealling ) presents from luxury shops and gives them to homeless people who live in the sewers.Even they have a Cristmas tree, a very nice one, wich proves that Cristmas can be in everybody's heart. The contrast between the golden and glamourous textures from the shopping bulevard and the cold and grey sewers with huge rats running around I think puts all of us to wonder: what does REALLY mean Cristmas and how we can give a little joy to those who aren't as lucky as we are." - dya1403 (20-Dec-2006)
"What a great idea for a Christmas level, by giving to the less fortunate and helping to make their Christmas a little better. The level starts out in a very nice city street with very nice upscale designer clothes store fronts catching your eye. Agnes has done some great texturing of this level using photos of models and real designers' names to add a good deal of realism. Throughout the level Lara needs to locate Christmas gifts for the homeless scattered throughout this city block. Some are found in the designer shops and some in the sewers below. You even get to putt around on a motorcycle for a bit. I really enjoyed this level for it's definite uniqueness in story and location. The end even treats you to a heart-warming cutscene. Great job, Agnes!" - Shandroid (18-Dec-2006)
"Looks like this years Christmas' levels are more emotional...another Christmas level with a touching story (and an emotional cutscene). In todays world, there are those who celebrate Christmas and feel the joy because they're able to and those who cant...Lara is now on a mission to get some presents and take them to afew homeless people to make them feel that they, too, deserve to have Christmas. Agnes created a beautiful city and a setting that really got to my liking, and the shops of designers' products were very eye catching. I loved the combination and the very obvious difference between the classy shops (with very foxy texturing, mauve, blue and gold, with the bling bling atmosphere) and the sewers (damp, cold, rusty and kind of dark and makes you feel sad). You'll have to break into shops, look around the sewers and everywhere for presents, then take a lovely ride on the bike before accomplishing your mission. The soundtracks were lovely and suit the atmosphere. A great level by Agnes that you've got to play and a nice cutscene at the end that shows really that Christmas is for Everybody." - Shady Croft (18-Dec-2006)
"Christmas is near to us with gifts, packages and good game of Agnes. Cute streets with nice shops and exclusive presents for your best friends or family. Not too hard but with good point for searching. Help to homeless people whom your gifts can do more and warming their hearts. Lara will make her goal for less than 1 hour of nice running/driving in little town." - Ivan (16-Dec-2006)
"An Agnes level, hurrah. This time, she's created an excellent city setting, boasting some very up-market shops, with gorgeous Christmas decorations in their windows. Lara's playing Robin Hood, stealing presents to give to the homeless and I had a super time breaking windows and generally vandalising the place to find them. The ending cut scene is really touching and a timely reminder that not everybody is fortunate enough to have a fairytale Christmas. Loved it AND I actually found both secrets. Now I know it's Christmas." - Jay (16-Dec-2006)
