Reviewer's comments
"I have to say that there is something spectacular about the giant mummies, especially when 10 of them are coming at you and you get to use explosives on them, seeing their giant body meshes tumbling all around you. The rest of the level is, of course, as expected." - Sethian (10-Dec-2020)
"At least the description lets you know what you are in for. As far as visuals go, there is merely large square rooms connected to each other, with wallpapered textures and flat lighting. A lot of missing or messed up sound effects as well. The gameplay in this narcistic level is quite repetitive - enter a room with several oversized enemies, defeat them, pick up a key that one of them drops to open the exit, pick up some ammo and repeat. There is certainly a good variety of enemies (including turkeys, that's a new one), but in most cases it doesn't change much. The enemies are too large to move and attack properly and most of the time Lara just gets pushed around the room like crazy, so her best bet is to just hold down the trigger and wait (while avoiding the entrance, enemies can get stuck in that doorway). The T-Rexes are difficult to deal with because for some reason they can only be hurt while attacking, but because they are oversized they are very hard to target when doing so. I'm not sure if the "fabulous prize" at the end is supposed to be a joke, but I actually kind of like it for that reason. 18 minutes." - JesseG (18-Nov-2020)
"Eight levels of a tower to travel through (excuse the alliteration!), and a key item and some fierce enemies to battle on each floor. Sound fun? Well, think again as it's not done very well here. Cain seems to enjoy building the way he likes and that's fine, but he has to know that he won't be rewarded with high marks if he continues this way. Again not really my kind of fun and the sounds seemed more haywire than before. It was weird that the enemies stomped around silently and the only noises were Lara's footsteps and pistol shots." - Ryan (28-Mar-2019)
"Look at all those overgrown strange creatures that you have to kill in order to proceed into the level. Some of them were so odd and so random that they made me laugh. You'll receive plenty of pick-ups before each battle, and there's a star to use on some doors and the thing repeats itself for like ten times more, and each time you wonder what kind of creature is going to pop out next. The T-Rexes push Lara in all directions and that makes it harder to deal with them. Not really recommended, unless you're a fan of shooter levels." - alan (20-Jan-2019)
"Oh look, another poorly-designed, attention mongering shooter release from Cain(that is considered suitable enough within his own deluded mind), to share with players like us to ultimately suffer through. And oh boy, has this got to be his worst one yet(at time of writing), as we run around lifeless boxy rooms looking for the next group of literal King Kong-sized opponents to slaughter, in the vain hope that this release will inevitably end sooner or later. So in conclusion, just another awful level from the builder to add to the ever-increasing pile. Avoid at all costs!" - Ceamonks890 (04-Dec-2014)
"I think the worst part of this is that the builder thinks it's a great level! How ironic. The level consists of a number of very very large rooms each with it's own set of giant baddies (and a hand of Orion to open the gates) you don't have to fight, but I recommend you do as it takes your eyes off the appauling texturing, then to be fair different textures are used in different rooms but they're all repeated on all walls, floors etc. Near the beginning, the screen keeps going black too. Sounds are not playing either. Enemies are monkeys, chickens, robots, zombies, torsos, trx, droids, gladiators, eel. They're so big, they tend to push Lara around too much. The idea of a 'land of giants' is a good one, but not done in this way with poor texturing, sounds, lighting, gameplay. You should have way less baddies, and only allow them to go in certain places, and let more of them cause damage to Lara since that's the whole point of them. You could create a level where everything including objects, walls, everything is much larger. If you don't enjoy texturing, just use colours such as yellow, blue etc all over, give it a cartoony feel." - sonnyd83 (10-May-2012)
"If even me writes only two lines, it DOES mean the level is boring and I recommend it only for those who don\'t know what to do with their lives." - DJ Full (30-Jul-2010)
"You can Cains levels only love or hate, there is nothing in between. I have resolved to love his levels. It is right, that his levels are a complete turkey. In any case, what concerns the textures. But apart from this, his levels have the certain something. I am, in the meantime, of the opinion, that Cain, if he put on it really on it, would belong to the best level builders. But it seems that he has fun to maltreat us player. Here, in any case, Lara has to go through high narrow ways and gigantic rooms. In every gigantic room one has to wipe out a handful of gigantic opponents. The opponents are monkeys, chickens, mummies, Borg (you already know, the "Resistance is futile. We are the Borg"-Dudes), thick Bertha's, dinos, robots, gladiators and a worm. If one has cleaned the room, one can find the hand of the Sirius or Osiris, open a door and run to the next gigantic room. Occasionally one richly finds weapons, ammunition and Medipacks. Merely the dinos did not fall down, but sometime they has pushed Lara through the wall. Then after about 20 minutes was end of work. Result: Bang on for people who want to play Rambo" - Scottie (03-Jun-2009)
"What on earth was that! The textures are stretched beyond belief, entire rooms are huge and empty with different enemies and a lot of ammo to spend. For fifteen minutes I was shooting and picking up weapons, health packs and ammo. That was extremely boring and pointless. I have to ask the builder to read the manual again and spend more time experimenting before releasing another one of these." - Kristina (26-Jan-2008)
"I did not enjoy this level at all, it was something different, but there was no sound except for the dual pistols. The texturing was very repetive, the enemies were varied, but no sound on those either + some of them were way too big and uncontrolled, As for the puzzles, they were also very repetive. you had to kill all the enemies in each section to get a star key. This is not a level i want to play again, but it's worth checking if you want a good laugh. :)" - Larson 1988 (13-Jan-2008)
"By now we all should know what Cain is all about. Strange textures, sloppy applied and even stranger creatures and this time the bigger didn't made them better. You'll find more than enough ammo to battle them all, although I must admit that in the robot room, I just picked up the Hand and made myself scares. There are however some problems with the sounds while I was converting, there were quite a lot missing so I had hardly any sounds when using the weapons." - Gerty (08-Jan-2008)
"In theory a tower structure can be used to create some very well made creative levels as custom level history has shown us, yet the latest offering of Cain at best is an example how to NOT do it. While it's kind of neat to shoot giant chicken, mummies, gladiators and what else not, there is also an unhealthy dose of where all of this starts getting on your nerves. The T-Rexes were as stubborn to die as never before, and fast moving enemies like the T-Rexes or Gorillas made me wanna tear out my hair out, and while it took a while for me to work out how to take out the latter in the most efficient way, the gorillas miraculously pushed Lara through a wall into the next hallway beyond the door, thus leaving any worries of fighting them behind. I also suspected the borgs would take forever and a day to die, so I just sprinted for the key and off to the next level not wasting any time or bullets on them. All that said - you have to play Cain's levels with expecting to see the humorous side in them, as he shows some great attitude about this himself in the readme's. So yeah - the levels are horrible and not improving anyhow as he releases more of them, so unless he begins to approach things seriously the least we can do as players is to see the levels for what they are too. And though the novelty of the levels (if you can call it that) has warn off quite some time ago, they still manage to get a number of players giving them a go, so up to you really if you want to be one of them or not." - eTux (01-Jan-2008)
"You'll have to place some stars to open doors and advance through a serie of big square rooms with very big enemies pushing you all the time. Only shoot, shoot and shoot was bored for me. I couldn't kill the T-Rex but fortunately they push me through the grated gate and I was able to continue. At the end, the "fabulous" prize the author mentioned in the readme was... broken glasses!!!" - Jose (01-Jan-2008)
"Another level from Cain means another boatload of shooting weird and, in this case, barely wonderful enemies. To be honest, that is the biggest problem with this level. While working your way through towers offing enemies doesn't even sound good on paper, when you're being hindered by collision boxes the size of a large house it's even less enjoyable. One particularly memorable moment in the level involved me, a puzzle hole, a giant T-Rex in the middle and no shotgun shells left to kill it with. This ended up with a few minutes worth of huge frustration as I tried to get past his collision box in order to reach the puzzle hole, without being shunted miles in the opposite direction instead. I don't know what exactly Cain is doing to make each level worse than his previous one, but more time needs to be taken on building in order to gain higher review scores." - Spike (29-Dec-2007)
"I had a load of missing sounds during level conversion, so pretty much everything in the level was mute. Other than the flawed giant enemies that just push Lara around (with the exception of a few that actually work). It's rather bland and pointless, but if you feel like hunting a "Load" and then sliding into a wall, this is the level for you. 15 minutes. 12/07" - Treeble (24-Dec-2007)
"Now let us take a deep breath and put it to an end. There`s quite a few new levels out there awaiting your scores , but in all of them you can see there`s at least a builders effort to try . This is just a waste of time . Forget it !!" - Ruben (22-Dec-2007)
"This level consists of huge and empty rooms that include giant enemies. Your task is to kill all the enemies to get access to a new area where you have to kill again enemies to get access to a new area and this continues till the end of the level. Rooms are awful looking boxes that have bad textures and no lighting at all. There's also not any sounds in this level exept sound of Lara's pistols. I don't want to sound rude but the fact is that this is one of the crappiest levels I've ever played and will probably ever play. I think that author hasn't even tried to create a good level because everyone are able to create better stuff than this level if they really want. If you like spending 20 minutes shooting enemies play this level. In other case don't bother to play it." - Samu (21-Dec-2007)
"Cain's levels are getting worse, this latest offering is I'm sorry to say a complete pile of rubbish. This level is so bad it would give a joke level a bad name. There are just large boxes for rooms which are wallpapered with textures from what looks like a texture set of only about 4 or 5 different textures and at times the rooms turn completly black. The lighting and gameplay are non existent, the enemies are just a joke and I had to reload a saved game several times because an enemy did not drop a star the first time around. I've only given it one point because the star puzzles actually work." - Bedazzled (20-Dec-2007)
"Not much Gameplay & Puzzles in this level: just shoot monsters, open doors and claim your fabulous prize! I couldn't in good conscience give a lower mark for Enemies, Objects & Secrets as I'm sure Cain has altered/modified alot of the enemies himself. They are huge and they {mostly} work correctly. Plus, what a diverse range of enemies there are! And so many! The 'fabulous prize' waiting at the top of the gargantuan tower is worth 8 points all by itself! But, when I converted the level there were lots of sound files missing and this did affect atmosphere. The lighting is pretty bland and there are lots of wallpapered and stretched textures. Still, a Cain level by Cain is a unique experience and I think everybody should play them! So, download this level and play it with an open mind..." - Kitkat (19-Dec-2007)
"I Just wasted 10 minutes of my life. Both for downloading and playing it. The levels have no atmosphere at all. It's just big boxes with bad textures and some strange big enemies in. He have only used like 3 textures. 2 for the walls, 1 for the ceiling and 1 for the floor. The level have no lightening at all. And that makes the level look even more boring. You walk in a big box. Kill some enemies and take a star. Open a door and go through a corridor. And then you come to another box with some enemies and a star. The worst thing is that Cain's levels doesn't get better. They get worse. Ok all are boting but this is probably the most boring yet." - Betal (19-Dec-2007)
"This is wonderfully cosy and relaxing level that carries the Christmas Spirit like almost no other I have played before..... yeah right, you know I am kidding... 20 minutes, eight levels of the 'tower' and some really big enemies to battle away with (and I mean really big), which I have to admit was fun in a strange way and I only had a little trouble with the TRex part. And then the prize, well you have to see it to believe it ;)" - MichaelP (18-Dec-2007)
"This level has some of the most weird baddies in the history of TR, but sure are they funny. Horrific textures, little or no atmosphere and the same repeating pattern of gameplay to give 15 mins of Histerics. I think Cain has done better and showed good use of a pickup trigger, which is good. This level is very buggy at the beggining with everything going black for a bit, and with the monsters, which made the t.rex room very hard. Overall though, i think everybody should give this level a go and have a good laugh at the baddies and their humerous looks. An enjoyable level that i really don't want to play again. :D" - Cory (18-Dec-2007)
"IMO this should have been classified as a joke level. There were so many bugs I thought I was in a roach motel. In a couple of the rooms the enemies pushed Lara through the locked gate, so no need to shoot or collect anything. Play this if you like but I can't recommend it." - guss18 (18-Dec-2007)
"If you'd like an antidote to all those seasonal twee and feel-good levels, here's an opportunity to brainlessly wile away a few minutes blasting assorted bizarre enemies to kingdom come,in true Cain style. If he wants to ever score some points sometime,he really needs to improve his technique in all level-building areas; if he doesn't,then he can go right on building just the way he currently is and we can all regularly enjoy a good laugh." - Orbit Dream (18-Dec-2007)
"And the madness continues. I suppose this is the complete antithesis of the Advent levels we're currently playing - lunacy, mayhem and some really weird enemies. Sound wise, it is at least quite peaceful since most of the sound files seem to have gone astray. Let's face it, there's only one Cain (now hands up all who think that's probably a good thing) and sometimes I just have to smile." - Jay (18-Dec-2007)
"Merry Christmas! Merry Christmas! (from a devoted legion of fans) Now, this is a shooter indeed, only not a good shooter. A good shooter would be, say,Max Payne. There is no story. No aiming (therefore a pretty bad shooter). The textures repeat and stretch themselves ad nauseam. Just a lot of very big enemies taken from TR adventures (I'm not saying that's not somehow original), several floors (I stopped counting), missing textures and sounds and a gunshot that goes 'click!' and a few stars of Orion. Plus, of course, the amazing surprise in the end! But since nobody says what it is, I'll keep my mouth shut as well." - Jorge22 (18-Dec-2007)
"cain, darling, gotta say, best level uve ever made! your going up a 0.1 rating each time! well done, as micheal said, 8 levels of 'tower' funny in a strage demented way and bloody HUGE monstors, i have up at the trex though, i ended up putting a weight on the ctrl key while i went and watched tv, half an hour later the bloody thing still wasnt dead, so i didnt bother, repeated textures, you could recreate this entire level with 5 mins in the editor, the most funny part of the whole thing was the .doc, definatly worth the download to have a laugh at the word pad." - ColeMoles (18-Dec-2007)
