Reviewer's comments
"I'm currently going through CIL (about 25% of the way through, if the video walkthrough is to be taken into account) and I needed to play something else before going insane, and I'm glad I stumbled upon this one. The bite sized length means I could slot this into a busy day without losing my reviewing momentum, while decompressing from the other level. This is a quirky raid through a space base and has you shooting purple pigs, as per the title, which I thought was rather humorous and quite in line with the levers at the end as well. Gameplay is fairly simple and straightforward, nothing particularly taxing or mind boggling and even the timed run didn't feel like one (were it not for the mention in the walkthrough, I might not even noticed it myself). Good and unpretentious fun. 15 minutes, 2 secrets. 10/22" - Treeble (23-Oct-2022)
"It's a shame that, over nine years later (at the time of writing this review), a full version of this level still hasn't come to fruition as this was actually pretty fun, although very short (notching up at just short of 20 minutes). Fair enough, the gameplay is easy, although a timed run early on could be considered challenging, but the titular spacepigs (well, wild boars, really) do make an appearance and the surroundings fit the story. Good fun while it lasts." - Ryan (22-Jan-2017)
"What an aptly named level! It's not often you get transported to the 2070s or have to fight purple pigs! Quite a curious level and worth a look. The gameplay is quite average in my opinion. You have to raise a timed block, do a few timed doors, fight some purple pigs, and avoid some timed flames. Actually, much of this level is timed, but it's not overly difficult. It appears to take place on a spaceship, in the 2070's, but doesn't look very futuristic at all, if anything this looks like it's set back in the 1980s...Anyway, it took me about 20 minutes to complete this demo." - sonnyd83 (27-Aug-2015)
"As always I appreciate the amusing elements in Ruediger's levels. It was cool seeing Lara run around with a Star Trek garment, turning fire into water and seeing a statue of her ancestor in outer space. The timed run wasn't too taxing, but for a demo, I was surprised to see such a difficult jump at some point. The silliness of the invading purple spacepigs made this mini-level all the more amusing." - Sakusha (22-Dec-2011)
"I was ready for a creatively unique adventure here and I was not disappointed. Lara is sent to an alien ship where she must fend against - guess - purple spacepigs, which take quite a beating (plus one robot too) but these are not very harmful. You can get a useless pair of Uzis as a secret after having defeated all the baddies, as well as a few medpacks scattered about, and a few keys to use to progress. Gameplay has a few juicy tough jumps and timed runs, but other than that is not much more than finding the next switch to pull. Texturing is pretty good, with a few humorous ones near the end, but a bit wallpapered with the larger pit areas. Cameras are good, but the one flyby didn't have anything dramatic to show. Some triggers are odd normal triggers that are not marked. I got stuck and had to use an old savegame after finding that a grate I needed to use (to get to the hall with lasers) from was lit on fire for some reason, when it wasn't before. Other than that I had fun with this more unusual, albeit not very long lasting experience." - SSJ6Wolf (20-Nov-2008)
"The readme is very humorous, and is carried over into the level, especially the hilarious ending, which we reach very quickly after performing a few tasks. It's the year 2072 on Moonbase Alpha 99!, and we see Lara in good looking Star Trekkie type outfit. But it's hard to know if this is actually a base or a space ship. We do see a memorial statue of Lara herself, so has she travelled through time? No, apparently this is Lara's great granddaughter! (Now that opens a whole other discussion!). We still need keys and swipe cards, but I had to laugh at the rubbish bin... What would be thrown in there! Apart from the purple spacepigs we deal with a robot, toxic water, and some good timed runs. Of note are the great looking switches. Despite being called a demo it's a fully rounded level, albeit extremely short. A fun little level to play." - CC (12-May-2008)
"Set in the future - Lara's great-grandaughter has been sent to a space station that has been invaded by, yes the title is correct - purple spacepigs! {You've just got to love the names Ruediger comes up with!} This is a silly, short and fairly easy romp. It is also tremendous Fun. You'll spend you time fighting pigs while finding the keys/cards you need to progress. There are lots of 'nice touches' here and there {including a statue of our Lara} and some laugh out loud moments. Download it, play it and look forward to the full version along with the rest of us." - Kitkat (24-Apr-2008)
"Good clean fun for 20 minutes - so we should be thankful to Rüdiger for digging this up from his harddisk and releasing it to the world. This is not very mindboggling but in search of two keys and a card (and two secrets), while shooting about a dozen spacepigs and listing to the cool audio, you will be entertained for the short while it lasts. There are even two (fairly relaxed) timed sequences and an occasioal burner to spice things up a bit. Oh, and of course you have to play it for a little laugh at the very end ;)" - MichaelP (12-Mar-2008)
"With a fanciful title such as this, I was expecting something a little more out of the ordinary. What we have instead is a fairly routine (but enjoyable) raid that lasts between 20 and 25 minutes, just about right, I suppose, for a demo. The title namesakes are plain ol' wild boars with tinted hides, and they seem to be everywhere. You'll kill a dozen or so (and nothing else, as I recall) during your stay here. Pleasant enough, not very difficult, and probably a good choice for beginning raiders as they sharpen their playing skills." - Phil (27-Feb-2008)
"Although the level is very easy to play I had some problems near the end with a tricky jump back over a slope. At the end it seems that Lara destroys the base so the mission is complete and this could not be a demo (?). I found the uzis at the very end, so it wasn't useful for me and I had to shoot all the enemies only with the pistols. All the enemies I found were space(wild)pigs and a lonely robot near the end. As usual in many authors, there are not flares to pick up; secrets are very easy to find. Ambience was the best of the level for me with a nice background music." - Jose (14-Feb-2008)
"“Pigs in Space".... Who can remember this series as a part of the Muppet Show? And these are purple pigs, even better. The hunt is on for some keys and a key card. To get them you have to do some jumping, some timed runs and one nasty jump, not sure if I did it right, but the minute I was save, I saved LOL. I loved the TR star trek outfit Lara was wearing; I also spotted some nice looking levers. For the rest, I was plain lucky to find the keys right away, this is a rather straightforward level though. Nice place to hide the Uzi and the added music fitted quite well with the theme." - Gerty (04-Feb-2008)
"Well done Ruedi. I was really looking forward to this one when it was first mentioned way back last year, and i really had a blast of a time playing it. The surroundings are basic, and purple pigs are abundant as Lara makes her way through this rather odd looking environment.. But hey, it's Ruedi so what do you expect? LOL. There's also a timed run which kept me busy for a while, but i managed this level quite well and picked up my much needed keys and cards plus the two secrets. The final area made me laugh; little things please little minds i guess, but basically there are some signs on the wall with levers, i don't know, it was just amusing IMO.. Anyway, i take it this will be continued (it says demo) and i very much hope so because i have a feeling there is so much more fun to come from our little German buddy and his wee purple piggies. Thanks Ruedi for a fab game." - Moonpooka (04-Feb-2008)
"Only Ruediger could come up with a level title that sounds like an old B-movie, yet the most interesting thing here is that it plays like one as well. There's nothing particularly mind-boggling here - some simple timed runs, 2 keys and a keycard, a few jumps in a futuristic environment and basically you're through in less than 15 minutes. Overall it maybe doesn't sound like anything extraordinary, but the pigs along with the other neat touches like Lara's statue and other humorous moments make your short-lived stay worth your while. The demo status gives away that this might grow into a longer and more complex adventure eventually, and if so - I'm all for it! Found 2 secrets." - eTux (25-Jan-2008)
"Doesn't Ruediger come up with the best names for his levels - how could anyone not want to take a look at this? So OK, they are just the normal piggies, but they are very purple indeed. At just under half an hour, this could be classed as either a longish demo or a shortish level really. It's good fun (and funny). There are a couple of (not tight) timed runs and some general jumping about in the base environment, plus of course lots of those pesky purple critters (and a robot) to shoot. Some good special effects and excellent audio files also add to the overall enjoyment. The Uzi and ammo secrets didn't come into play at all, but maybe they'll turn out to be really useful in the extended version, which I sincerely hope we get." - Jay (20-Jan-2008)
"It is really great to see a new adventure signed Ruediger again and quite a different little something at that. It is never too difficult to manage, but nicely features some tricky timed runs and jump sequences to keep you on your toes- you'll most certainly never feel bored. In this one we find Lara in a moonbase with a typical base-setting. There are a few traps to navigate through(of the kind one can expect: lava pools, laser traps and the likes) and I found both secrets. As for those they are just the way secrets should be: well hidden, but not too difficult to find- the same goes for the keys and keycard that had to be located in order to gain access to various parts of the base. The textures are nicely applied(as one would expect from an old-timer like Ruediger) and with varied and dynamic lighting the builder has successfully created an atmospheric and enjoyable start to what could easily become a fun and action-packed adventure. Quirky and humorous and with purple spacepigs(!) swarming the place this little some-25 minutes demo holds great promise for the future and I really do hope that we'll get to see the full adventure some day." - Selene (09-Jan-2008)
"He's back, and this time it's....purple.As the Demo tag implies, this is a somewhat incomplete adventure (although not noticeably shorter than many of Ruedigers previous offerings;indicating, perhaps,an epic level in the offing)but it contains all the fun elements we associate with this builder, combined with some quirky sounds and interesting graphics. There's also an attempt at a fun storyline (you play as Lara's great-grandaughter)and some laugh-out-loud moments. Aside from one apparently vicious jump sequence the Gameplay is simple and straightforward but also fun and smooth-flowing.Recommended - and to say that I look forward to an equally quirky full-length adventure is an understatement!" - Orbit Dream (07-Jan-2008)
"Well, the title says it all, Demo. Well, it is quite small but also full of purple spacepigs and a random creature, at 25 mins it is definately a demo but it is ruediger style fun and sillyness. Some jumps and levers, flames and death squares and most of all, purple pigs. At the end i think he ran out of ideas though because it was just a lever, a door and a remarkably silly texture. Not giving anything away. The atmosphere was good at times and okay at others. Sound and cameras were used well with them showing doors opening and a nice flyby, and sounds were well used and nice. The texturing was good with some average texturing in the huge room in my opinion. Gameplay is solid fun, with the hunt for keys and card in which you have to do a timed run or two. I found one secret in total, it wasn't much use however as there was no use for it. A good demo and i look forward to the full version which looks as if it is going to be big. It is nice to see Ruediger building again and i hope he completes the level fully." - Cory (07-Jan-2008)
