Reviewer's comments |
"A dark-toned hub leading to separate challenges, each one of a different nature, which unlock the heart of the game. Not my type of level but everything here works and makes sense. No meds is doable but needs patience. Recommended for the evening or night time." - DJ Full (29-Aug-2024) |

"The title might work rather well as a repelent all things considered, but this is actually rather fun. The trap sequences are devious, especially the final escape gauntlet which I only got through because I was quicksaving and quickloading like mad (but I'm sure people out there still advocate that NLNMAS is the true way to experience tomb raider) and the one room with the boulder we need to drop through two floors made me think of Kosa's line in LCTRCOL - "do you ever do anything the easy way?". Apparently not, cosidering all it took her to tip a barrel. But again, overall all setups are rather clever and goood fun. Even though I was following the walkthrough all along I still walked short of one secret, I might be getting too old to carry on a full time job, house chores, and still trying to squeeze a daily trle session after all... 50 minutes, 3 secrets. 03/24" - Treeble (17-Mar-2024) |

"I believe I found this level thru the random feature screen and was rather shocked to see
so few reviews especially when the builder was so nice to ask for reviews in their readme
and with ratings so high, so here I am. What I liked about the level: 1) To start, one of
the nicest readme's I've ever read… just saying. 2) Loved the beginning puzzle (north)
with the raising blocks and levers. 3) Two different types of switches (one jump switch
high up hidden and one lower in clear sight) on one column is oddly something I've not
seen before. Normally when I find one switch (the obvious one), off I go but the builder
is saying… hold on, not so fast you anxious player you! 4) I liked having the safe spots
to kill the massive spider enemy from.
What I didn't like or could suggest as improvements: 1) Just a wishlist, but the main hub
could have been a little more distinct or different from the other surrounding tunnels so
you can recognize you are back. 2) I didn't find any explosive crossbow arrows and no
shotgun, so I had to place the 4 pyramid keys with two skeletons continually slashing
Lara. I used so many medipacks for such a ridiculously simple thing… ugh!!!
Conclusion: Despite the simple textural surroundings, I really enjoyed playing this level
as gameplay is always first and foremost for me. I didn't encounter any impossible timed
runs, so quite suitable for average players" - Lizard Queen (15-Sep-2020) |

"From the expansive search for six Guardian Keys
(four constitute the main part of the
adventure, two are used to progress to the end
of the level) to the harrowing escape with a
wraith, raising/falling trapdoors and a
demigod, this was quite the ride from start to
finish and a gem of a level. "Dark" in this
case does not mean irritatingly dark or pitch-
black, but atmospherically dim lighting and
yes, there's a difference. I've become a fan of
this builder's levels and this is no exception." - Ryan (07-Apr-2017) |

"After the latest review, I looked at the screenshots and thought "why not", so downloaded this among a few others. Honestly - I can understand why this level has so few reviews. It has nothing to do with the level itself, but its release date was somewhat unfortune as has been published just between two very highly rated and long customs. Anyway, coming to the actual review: I found this level to be quite a raid. This level that has you searching for four pyramid keys in order to finally reach the item of your desire is really entertaining from start to finish and I was rather sorry when it finished after 55 minutes. The main setup with four different routes might be "old" but the gameplay and puzzles in these four routes is absolutely great. Until the escape route, I would call the difficulty rather easy as the puzzles aren't overly hard to figure out, the trap sequences should be doable for every player, but the plethora of intuitive puzzles and creative ideas really made this a fun level, e.g. the door puzzle, the boulder that crashes into a barrel to get a key (great idea) or the raising blocks in a line - never too hard to accomplish but nicely set up. I only disliked one thing in this level gameplaywise - the fact that you needed to return three times through the blade room to deactivate the fires; that was rather tedious. There were four secrets to find along your way which I found to be nicely hidden, also liked that all of them had a pretty similar room where to find them. The new object collision (Lara bumping into them) was more realistic and I liked the usage of the Barkhang fences in some of the rooms - they merged really well with the scenery. The atmosphere in general was very good, with nicely supplied lighting, a bit on the dark side but since you're given enough flares this should not be a problem. The sound usage was perfect and I liked that after the innovative killing of the boss the game didn't directly finish - there was a nice twist I won't describe, see it yourself. Only one thing to mention, I rather liked to see some more architectural highlights in this game, as often you are running through narrow corridors - some great-scale rooms would have made this game even better. Also found the occasional texture mistake, especially in the room with the deep pit. All in all a memorable game that I really recommend playing. It is a real gem." - manarch2 (19-Jul-2012) |

"I don't understand why there are just 10 reviews when I writing this. This little level is absolutely amazing. Lara is hidden in a catacomb complex and the goal is to find the exit (with the quest item of course ^^). Not really dark, the lighting is perfect and the textures too, a mix of catacomb, church and castel. A perfect catacomb atmosphere and very good sounds of TRLegend.
I really enjoying the ennemies and the funny method to kill the big boss. Great moment.
So to conclude a beautiful little level recommended for everyone.
Thanks a lot Binibe for this one and I hope play another of your level a day." - BigFoot (18-Jul-2012) |

"What a great Level!
Seldom catacombs looked nicer than here. The textures, the music, the riddles, time runs. It fits everything perfectly.
Lara must wander first through various rooms to find four plugs. The riddles and time runs which lead to the respective plugs are maybe a little bit difficult for beginners, but for advancerd players no big obstacle, because they are difficult, but never unfair. Because there is enough Medipacks, are knife traps or a place with rotary knives which one must pass in a 3-part time run immediately six times, no problem, particularly as the rotary knives offer enough scope to come through without damage. Until shortly before the place were one must use the four plugs there are only bats, spiders and rats as opponents. Afterwards gets Lara company by two skeletons. Because one finds there, however, also a Crossbow and has hunted out before explosive arrows, these both troublemakers are fast history.
After one has used the four plugs, it goes down to the blue diamond. But of course the ground flap which leads finally to the diamond is still closed. And of course it is guarded by a disgusting and invincible contemporary. Lara must find four levers in the small room to handle the guy. Because she always finds cover, the dude can not harm her. And he is also not invincibly. A Rollingball makes here whole work.
If Lara has taken the diamond to herself, it becomes really difficult over again. A quite devoted ghost pursues Lara, while she jump above folding tiles and must shoot two Demigods. But then she has made it and a great adventure is completed.
This level definitely makes a lot of fun. So, download and get started, it's worth it!" - Scottie (25-Apr-2011) |

"I played this right after the author's previous level and I will admit I have become a fan. This adventure here has its more difficult moments (a tricky rope swing, some blade traps, timed runs and a hell of a gauntlet at the end), but it is really not overly hard or unfair, so a reasonably seasoned raider should make it through without big troubles. It starts in beautifully designed catacombs with a bit of a hub room which branches out to get your four guardian keys by mastering a great mix of puzzles and action, then stages an intermediate not too challenging boss fight only to then offer you a fabulous run to get out with the crystal that will get your adrenalin pumping. Just above an hour of great entertainment and four nice secrets to find as well." - MichaelP (10-Nov-2008) |

"As with earlier levels I played made by the same author I also found this one quite confusing. Apart from some minor gripes this a good level to explore. Your main goal is getting four keys and that takes up quite a lot of your time. It is dark, I grand you that, which is a bit of a pity, but there are enough flare pick up, specially if you find the secrets as they are pretty well hidden. A big NO NO in my book are a pit you can drop in and you don't die, well not by fallen into it, but you will starve to death if this was real life, as there is no way out. As well as one monkey climb that just doesn't make it to the place you need to go. Found a few textures that could use some rotating but all in all, it was a very well executed level. Enough action, enough to explore, some traps, some nasty timed runs and some great jumping." - Gerty (21-Oct-2008) |

"Anyone familiar with my more recent reviews would rightly think me slightly insane even to consider downloading and playing a level with the word "dark" in its title. However, that's exactly what I did, and I had a wonderful time with this one. In this case "dark" is not synonymous with "can't see what's going on around you." It's hard to put into words, but there's a major difference, and this builder knows the right way to do it. Moreover, you get flares to burn (ouch), and I still had 81 of 'em in my inventory when I hit the finish trigger some ninety minutes after I started. The premise is quite simple: find four pyramid keys and open a gate to complete the level. However, the journey is fraught with traps and puzzles, some of them quite ingenious, especially near the end. The rats you encounter along the way are enormous, as are the bats, and there's a demigod you kill by crushing it with a boulder. Nice touch. The use of TREP makes the surroundings particularly pleasing to the eye, and I'd like to see more from this builder. Highly recommended." - Phil (08-Oct-2008) |

"Not a hall of fame level but I liked it a lot. No-lineal but you don't need to return to the same places. Very well textured but a bit dark, although you have enough flares. There are some tricky tasks as the tight timed run with the fire or the jumps in the pillars with the blades but not impossible; I found some interesting puzzles too and a good atmosphere. Enemies are very well placed, and you'll find many dangerous situations. I liked the way to kill the big boss near the end and the fantastic escape with the gem. Keep some medipacks and ammo for the end, you'll need them. A very enjoyable level." - Jose (08-Oct-2008) |

"One amazing ride - that's the ending run and the beginning is a quest for four Pyramid Keys that starts in a somewhat confusing initial environment that quickly hooks the Raider with great puzzles in a dark catacomb area that's very well built. Dark but with enough flares and medipacks, also, when needed. Good secret placement and the music is fine but maybe a bit too much at times. A minor off-note was the jump made more by luck than skill but in the overall excellence of fluid gameplay it's of little note. If you're up for a challenge, this one is near perfect." - Bene (05-Oct-2008) |

"I found this level and especially its inventive gameplay to be very well thought out. It has a wide range of tasks like timed runs, agility tasks, sets of different kind of traps and puzzles containing some really smart switch combination tasks. In this game there's even a great finale where you need to avoid some obstacles while you are chased by a wraith. Added to good gameplay this level also has nice and dark atmosphere and well used audio tracks that intensify different situations very well. Environment is designed well too even if I think that it's the part of the game where most improvements could be done. In my opinion the environment was at times somehow slightly uninspired and common and many areas looked rather similar to each other despite they looked good. Anyway, as I said earlier environment is done well but I just think that author could have done it even better and more memorable. All in all this game is very fun and I hope to see more enjoyable levels from this author in future." - Samu (04-Oct-2008) |

"Dark is right, also 'confusing' is a good word and I hope you've got a good sense of direction. It's a jolly good level however, the main objective of which is to find four pyramid keys. After placing those, the fun and games truly begin as Lara has to negotiate a highly enjoyable series of traps/agility tests with a wraith on her heels. It's a powerhouse of an ending that may just leave you a bit breathless." - Jay (29-Sep-2008) |

"Simply put, this a very good level. In all categories the author has made a good work. After the first initial steps where you wander around a bit, you rapidly come to know that you are on 4 different quests for a key, each quest was interesting to get through , without being frustrating. Some elaborate puzzles like the one with raising blocks / pushable block or the other one with switches and doors. There is also some decent action , especially in the final escape after placing the 4 keys. I notice that the jump switch had no sound, you can go down at the bottom of a deep pit without dying but you are unable to come back up, and one door was not placed in a portal which explained why there was a"fixed camera view" when Lara rooms under this door. Minor points really, when compared to the good qualities of the level : the atmosphere is quite appropriate, the audio tracks lovely and atmospheric, the texturing is very good, and the enemies generally fit very well in the setting. Don't miss this good level." - eRIC (27-Sep-2008) |
