Reviewer's comments
"Well, if anything, the TRU background audio made me realize I'm due for a replay of the LAU trilogy. If you've played the game that inspired this demo, and squint real hard, you might see the similarities, but otherwise it's just a string of massive corridors on fire and things end as soon as you get to the main hall. 5 minutes. 01/23" - Treeble (15-Jan-2023)
"To be quite frank, this is not as bad as I quite expected it to be, I mean I have played some real bad levels with marks similar to this one and to be quite frank this one is one of the chillest. True, gameplay non existent, object are non existent too, but I really wanna give credit for the actually surprisingly good flyby camera the main title has, you don't usually find this stuff in such marked levels, while it ends abrouptly it still is the best thing in this game. I have seen worse lighting so I'd give it a 2, but the texturing is quite limited and atrocious and deserves a 0, so I am gonna give it a 1.
Not as bad as I thought, short yeah, and not worth checking, not recommended then :3 Wolfy Regards" - Wolf7 (04-Dec-2020)
"Well this was a mess. I don't go out of my way to play levels with low ratings just for the sake of it (at least not anymore), however the "0.80" rating got me curious since the screenshots didn't look particularly bad, but wew, it is messy to say the least, rooms look boxy, the texture variety is limited and they look quite stretched in some areas, some locations are quite unnecessarily dark (specially considering the flare bug is present), lighting can be okay in some areas I guess, gameplay is pretty much non-existent, there isn't much here to review to be honest." - SeniorBlitz (04-Apr-2020)
"Having never played Underworld (or any of the franchise after Crystal Dynamics got their hands on it) I was intrigued by this idea but unfortunately it simply fails. Atmosphere is quite bland even with the music provided and game play overly simplistic and after a few short minutes you hit the finish trigger. Sorry." - Torry (06-Jan-2020)
"I'll keep this review short because there's not much going on here. A few switches, crawling, shimmying, jumping, finish. Nice use of music, but that's about all there is to it." - Ryan (11-Dec-2016)
"Originally intended as a prologue to what I assume to be a full-on remake of TR Underworld, playing this demo makes me glad that the builder never really pursued it any further. As what's presented here isn't done very well at all, with uninteresting level design, unengaging gameplay, stretched textures throughout and an extreme lack of imagination overall. I will praise the builder for the music choices and somewhat decent use of lighting, but outside of these few pros, there are no other redeeming qualities to justify the existence of this release at all. Don't even waste your time with this demo, as it's pretty obvious that Daniel Inhoni just didn't care about what happened to this, once he chucked it out the door." - Ceamonks890 (14-Apr-2014)
"The Underworld hype didn't show mercy to the TRLE: The builder created a game which - I think - wasn't even taken seriously by the author himself. The whole thing looks too rushed, I'm sure that the author didn't want to spend more time with the level. The blocky geometry, the badly aligned textures, the poor gameplay are perfectly show that. Although the lighting is very well done, suprising. That's everything I could tell about that, since reaching a hallway puts an abrupt end to this small demo. I doubt that the full version will see the sunlight, but, feel free to prove the opposite." - rtrger (19-Nov-2010)
"This level wasn't fun to raid. Textures were so much streched and uniform, gameplay was boring - just going further - with one little exception at the end where you had to jump to the final stairs. Not recommended, luckily the level was over after three minutes." - manarch2 (03-Oct-2010)
"I was careful about the flames during the whole run through a corridor. I found some lever switches on the walls and threw it to open some doors. I made it through two crawlspaces, dropped myself down into a pit, shimmied left, performed three jumps... So, even if I got stuck in one illegal slope for a while, I considered this level to be quite well packed with action... And, even if all of its colors were the varieties of red, I thought it's not so ugly... And when I thought about all these good things, a sudden confusion came... I felt like forced to hit the brakes and stop at once in front of the "DEAD END" sign just after speeding through the highway. Or, maybe, like a tree, brutally ripped off from the soil which its roots were planted in. Or, let's say, like a bird which was flying through the fresh air and hit the unexpected glass... Very negative feeling. Is there really nothing more in this level? Unfortunately, it is true. I couldn't believe this is the end, especially the whole thing was getting pretty good. SUMMARY: Despite it was two years ago when the author has released this prologue, I still hope he is gonna finish it someday. Anyway, as long as this game remains just a prologue, I can recommend it only for those who like heavy feelings being dropped down into their heads." - DJ Full (03-Oct-2010)
"There is a lot work to do. Nothing is here. Only few doors and switches. Well, textures looks nice, but that's all. If you just put some furnitures, windows, doors, mayby level would be better." - Andzia9 (20-Mar-2009)
"Game starts with very fast title-flyby. I liked the cameras and flow but the good impression was ruined because of stretched textures. Later in game is Lara running away from burning mansion where you must use imagination how the mansion looked like because the rooms are too square - without windows, furniture etc. Not much to do there, some switches, jumps and avoiding the fire. Music is nice and encouraging. In the end I wanted to see more. :-)" - Oxy (12-Mar-2009)
"Very short this demo, only pull a few switches to open some doors in the destroyed Lara's mansion a shimmy and a few jumps. That's all. All the rooms textured the same way, no objects, no enemies, no puzzles,... Really a very bored level. The only thing I can save from this disaster is the background music." - Jose (23-Jan-2009)
"Perhaps it was a good thing that Lara's mansion lit up in flames, since it certainly added some colour to the otherwise dreary and dull surroundings in this level. Aside from the particularly poor visuals, the gameplay is hardly riveting either, with a couple of levers and jumps being the extent of what there is to do here. While I never expect to see the full thing come from this demo anyway, the builder is definitely going to have a job on his hands if he wants to impress." - Spike (03-Jan-2009)
"I really don't derive much pleasure from bagging a level in a review, but its pretty sad when the title of the level almost takes longer to read than it does to play the level. Pointless five minute romp complete with annoying illegal slopes, walls of stretched textures, and enough flame emitters to induce the flare bug by the time you get to the penultimate room - Wow that's gotta be some sort of a record! The most predictable thing about these type of of poorly conceived and prematurely released 'demo levels' is that they are nothing more than test rooms and never fail to disappoint. Positives - the lighting and music choice were OK. Please stop releasing this sort of rubbish so that reviewers don't have to point out the harsh realities of these meagre attempts at level building. Practice more, get your levels tested privately and release something that you will be proud of and is worthy of playing." - EssGee (15-Dec-2008)
"Well, even by demo standards that was brief in the extreme. Lara's looking very good (has she been working out?), but I'm afraid she's the only thing that is. All you get here is a quick dash through a fire filled, incredibly dreary looking mansion, with nary a thought given to even the merest morsel of gameplay. It doesn't bode well for the full level." - Jay (13-Dec-2008)
"Well, what can I say. TRU hasn't even been out a month and already someone is trying to remake it. >.< So, I havent actually played TRU yet, but I'm sure it'll be better then this because it's awful. About three textures used, with fire everywhere. The textures are stretched, and there's too much shadow over the first switch, which is annoying. Not a very good demo, or a sophomore level. Wish I didnt waste five minutes of my time on it." - theDomino (12-Dec-2008)
"bland, boring, "area" that is supposed to represent the prolouge of TRU. well it doesnt, except for the music. Large empty rooms with loads of flame emiters. No objectives except to pull some switches and jump around the empty place. Along with strecthed textures. Also the level ends abruptly. Could do MUCH better." - Stew (11-Dec-2008)
"I'd burn my house down too if it looked like this. The level info page gives a challenge: "Can you watch the entire title without moving your head LOL". Nope, didn't move my head, but I did move my legs...to take me to the toilet to vomit. There's not really a lot to say about the level to be honest. It's your usual dose of soulless rooms in no believable setting with mistakes aplenty." - TrueRaider (10-Dec-2008)
"Playing a custom level shouldnt really make you feel guilty, however after completing this one I immediately downloaded something better just for the sake of my own concience. I gave it 1 for gameplay more through pity than accuracy, but my highest recommendation is to leave it alone and to do something more enjoyable instead (like, for instance, the washing up)." - Orbit Dream (10-Dec-2008)
"I'm not sure this is Croft Manor from Tomb Raider Underworld. I haven't play Underworld yet, but I think Manor in TRU doesn't look like this. Just only a few textures, not so many. You should try to create some smaller rooms with more textures. One thing I like in this custom is a music and Lara's outfit." - Razzi (09-Dec-2008)
"I can't say if this demo is representative of the Underworld stuff. What you get here for 5 minutes is a straightforward course , with a bit of crawling , a bit of shimmying , 2 or 3 jumps and 3 switches in rooms and corridors without any other object aside many fires. The audio loop of the title is rather pleasant whereas the one in game is typical of what is made nowadays : 'grandiloquent' and noisy." - eRIC (09-Dec-2008)
"Short indeed (4 minutes max) and fairly uninspired too. 3 switches, shimmy along a crack, jump, end. So, let me use the opportunity of this review to quote from a recent forum post of Mulf, which I wholeheartedly agree with: '...What I can see no sense in at all is the wish of some to re-create games whose engines are vastly superior to that of TR4. It is especially absurd trying to remake, on an inferior engine, games that have nothing but precisely their superior graphics to recommend themselves, like Legend ff...'. That says it all, I think." - MichaelP (09-Dec-2008)
"Pathetic, that's the one word that springs to mind. No wait...there's another coming, and I think it's...super...yes, it's superfluous. Just in case you wonder whether among the flood of so-called remakes there's finally one that meets the standard...well, any standard, really...the answer is, again, no. Small wonder." - Mulf (09-Dec-2008)
"The info says it all, it is short (very short) no weapons, (not needed) only use of flares, yeah right... flare bug sets in at a certain time. Haven't played Underworld so I can't say anything about that, but if this ever get to a full level, better pay a lot of attention to textures as they are not well done. Squashed, stretched you name it and it is there. Music, there are two wav files and I turned the music down as it got on my nerve (oops, original TRU music). I better wait for the original." - Gerty (09-Dec-2008)
"Not much to say here, very little textures and looking nothing graphic-wise to the tomb raider underworld manor. Nice attempt with flame emmiters though :)" - Phys (09-Dec-2008)
