Reviewer's comments |
"Well, first off, this level is too dark. Some areas are clearer than others, yes, but most
of the time you'll find yourself in extremely dark areas. Flares are of little help because
they only last about 10 SECONDS. What was the need of shortening their lifespan? Anyway, all
negative points aside, the rest of the level isn't that bad. There are some entertaining
parts like the laser room and battling some enemies. But most of all I liked the classic
tracks used. You can find one from each TR game, except for TR1 I think, but that's okay.
With all that said, I don't think the rating for this level is fair. This is better built
and looks better than most levels rated 6, so I think this one is underrated by at least one
full point. So I'm going to be very generous and try to increase the score at least a bit.
Good job but light up those rooms a bit more. And one more thing: that running animation
should be illegal." - alan (12-Mar-2023) |

"Well, nice to see the skills this author is getting. Not a jewel of the curtom levels, of course, but more enjoyable than the debut. Many areas are too dark, and the flares for some reason don't work enough time, there's an abuse of the switches to open doors and in the pool area with five wall switches some jumps are too hard. On the other hand, the enemies are well balanced, and there are enough pickups to deal with them, except uzi ammo to fight with the knight with horse. Correct use of the cameras and musics, a pain the absence of a background music. The texturization is not bad too, so I think this builder could release better and more enternaining levels in the future; I hope so. Cheer up!" - Jose (26-Mar-2019) |

"The positive thing about this level is that it is not as needlessly long and thus tedious as the builder's debut level. Well, the rest has been probably mentioned by all reviewers before - but one thing I don't get is that the builder does not at least make an update with the time of the flares having "normal length" again instead of aiming to remove the entire level... On the plus side, the gloomy atmosphere is sometimes effective, and some rooms are overall quite decently designed - however, sounds, cameras and the like are also messed up, as well as inventory items, the running animation - once more :( -, the (probably intended) secrets, unfitting enemy choices ... in short, the builder just needs a decent beta testing team and his levels will be more enjoyable. There are some neat ideas here and there, although also not quite as refined as they could've been, and I guess with some more work and care the builder could present enjoyable levels. But not this way, sorry. 35 minutes." - manarch2 (26-Jan-2019) |

"Lara really needs to change her flare supplier, the ones she's using here don't stay alight for more than an eye blink! That's the main downside of the level overall as it's very gloomy, even for a 'City of the Dead' setting. That caveat aside, there's much to enjoy here, with some nicely challenging traps, jumps and puzzles. The enemies can be very health draining as there are occasions when some damage from sentry guns is inevitable, but at least the builder hasn't stinted with the pickups. Persevere and I think you'll be glad you did, although I must say I was glad of the walkthrough at times. I suppose that's the good thing about being almost permanently behind with my reviewing - I've usually got the benefit of a walkthrough or questions have long since been answered in the stuck threads, lol." - Jay (11-Jan-2019) |

"I'll be the bad guy this time since this level just didn't work for me, and I'm the most sorry to see it's another one where a lot of
visible effort has been invested only to be ruined by little mistakes and misconception, and surrounding ignorance. Nobody told the
builder reducing the flare time to 10 seconds was a bad idea. Nobody rang a bell placing multiple enemies and permanent sentries in
every room wasn't either. Nobody complained about dark lighting BEFORE the release of this level. And I know builders usually hit that
point when it's already easy to mix wads but still hard to fix sounds, but there are other people who could help fix those yet nobody
was asked or bothered to help with this either. Just don't waste good levels like this, please. It could be twice better at least." - DJ Full (08-Jan-2019) |

"I'm rather amazed that after nearly two weeks mine is the
first review. I suspect this may be attributable to several
reasons: (1) the plethora of easygoing, well-lighted Advent
levels that were released at about the same time, (2) the
pervasive dark and dismal surroundings here, for which there
was never any real relief, and (3) the unavoidable repeated
loss of health from sentry guns that could be neither
avoided nor destroyed. Moreover, the flares that were
provided lasted only for a few seconds and were of little
help in navigating the darkness. The builder demonstrated in
his first release that he has a competent knowledge of the
level editor, but he has given us another player-unfriendly
offering. If not for god mode and the GUNS cheat (affording
unlimited flares) I wouldn't have bothered plowing all the
way through it. On the other hand, it's certainly a level
worthy of being played and reviewed, so I've provided as
complete a walkthrough as possible to help get other players
through it. The area most likely to cause problems was in
the toxic water room, where a couple of tricky jumps took me
numerous efforts to conquer. But the gameplay is solid in
all aspects, so I have to give it an overall thumbs up." - Phil (04-Jan-2019) |

"Indeed a level with quite a few twists and
turns along the way. It definitely has its
enjoyable parts and my overall impression
is positive, but I can't ignore the
numerous annoyances that make the gameplay
experience less appealing than it could
have been. Firstly, although this sewer
environment is convincingly crafted with a
definitive eye for texture detail
(although quite bland overall), it's far
too gloomy where lighting is concerned. It
also doesn't help that the flares don't
last nearly as long as they normally do
(luckily enough are provided, but it's
irritating all the same). Secondly, most
of the sentry guns require you to take
damage from them to proceed. I've never
been fond of forced damage sections as I
believe there should always be an
alternative way around it. The items are
also misnamed in the inventory and the
running animation of Lara in this level
made jumps a bit too tricky for my liking.
Those things being said, gameplay
progression is well thought out and
enemies/objects are used well, although I
found no secrets. An irritating game at
times, but strangely rewarding." - Ryan (04-Jan-2019) |
