Reviewer's comments |
"Seriously Stunning are the words that come to mind when I think of the visuals and atmosphere in this level, so much
detail and so much care into making this really feel like a wintery cold snowy level and I was in awe to be honest.
Gameplay remains quite easy really with some light platforming, climbing, using poles and ropes, pushing objects and
exploring for items both outside in the snow and inside cosy little buildings, cabins, church's and castle courtyards etc
before we move onto frozen lakes and underground caves. The latter part of the level starts to become slightly less
simple with a timed run and a tricky torch task through a treacherous cave but there's no proper traps or enemies
attacks to keep you on your toes unfortunately, just some annoying gremlins nipping at your feet! but that's not to say
there's no animals here as we have cute little birds, a fox, deer, a bear! and even a cute little owl that delivers us a much
needed key. The level end after a fairy is conjured up and you climb your way out of the cave with a lovely flyby camera
showing a bunch of characters around the area. Overall a very enjoyable level where for me personally most of the
enjoyment came from playing and exploring in such rich, vibrant and gorgeous looking settings and environments
rather than the actual tasks themselves which remained quite simplistic." - John (22-Jun-2023) |

"Another awesome level ! I enjoy playing, nice textures, objects, sounds. Gameplay was
smooth. I recommend this level so much, have fun !" - Lioness_86 (06-Jan-2021) |

"I was searching through the XMas levels and came across this one and thought I'd give it
a try. What a beautiful build, and it's great to see that the team's effort paid off
because it's a magical setting! My only complaint would be in the choice for the Lara
model, which I found to be a bit dull and not animated properly. Anyway, I believe this
level to be special in its own right and filled with fantasy elements, like the cutscene
that happens at the end. It's a quick play but it's worth it!" - young Lara Croft (26-Dec-2020) |

"I must admit i did not liked much the gameplay in the
beginning section before the portal, especially the cave
with the owl as nothing more happened until , disappointed
i decided to backtrack to a previous area and that was when
a flyby was triggered : weird design of gameplay ; also
the torch puzzle near the end where Lara burns does not
make any sense , it is just annoying. Aside for that the
game was quite pleasant to play , on the easy side. Lara's
stumbling animation is too much exaggerate. The atmosphere
is great and the builders have used first choice materials
, the textures and objects really fit the storyline taking
place in Russia. It seems the level does not have a finish
trigger as nothing more happened after the fairy appears.
On the whole a level to have a pleasant time." - eRIC (10-Jul-2020) |

"Very enjoyable Young Lara level! This is a gorgeous wintry level with a fairtytale-esque atmosphere. The musical score selections and the ambient background tracks were phenomenal and added so much to the visuals. I loved little Lara's custom animations, especially the face plant after performing a swan dive on dry land. This level is definitely appropriate for children, as it lacks any violence whatsoever and only has a few creepy little monsters. Its strength is that it focuses purely on exploration and collecting items in an enchanting setting. It's not overly difficult or long and is the perfect way to spend a December afternoon." - Chel (09-Dec-2019) |

"Excellent! One of that levels you can replay more than once. The architecture is really impressive, perfect texturization, good cameras and flybys, incredible environments, great effects, no hard tasks... If you like the exploration and admire marvellous environments don't doubt to play this small jewel. Highly recommended." - Jose (28-Mar-2019) |

"It's one of those levels where during my traditional live review I didn't think of tech stuff but I could entirely focus on what made sense (a lot) and what didn't (a little) - because rather than a "game", it's a curious fantasy world with a fairy tale told for good sleep, and I understood its mood and topic even though I forgot about the readme. It's just nice and problem-free - launch it and enjoy." - DJ Full (10-Mar-2019) |

"A magical, enchanting level, perfect in conception,
construction and spirit. (The little owl sequence, for
itself, already deserved a full round of 10s.) Magnificent
scenery from beginning to end, very realistic with friendly
animals, and the music is also lovely. Maybe I'm wrong, but I
recognized here both Orthodox Christian and Pagan elements,
and why not? Perhaps the Christmas season has a meaning for
everybody, independently of professed Faith or its absence." - Josey (30-Jan-2019) |

"And here's my late review for the last Advent Calendar
level of 2018, a team effort that is visually astonishing
right from the very start. That is indeed its main feature,
the incredible looks of the whole settings and how that
adds up to the whole atmosphere. I had to get a new
computer and then find out how to make Tomb Raider run in
it in the meantime and that's why it's such a late review.
No weapons and no enemies, a frozen Russian theme, rather
nice puzzles and a lot of exploring. Lara's animation is
perfect except for how she almost stumbles every time she
slides or falls - artistic freedom, I get that. Not exactly
Christmassy and the ending feels a bit sudden (or maybe I
was expecting fireworks) but definitely recommended. Thank
you indeed everyone." - Jorge22 (13-Jan-2019) |

"Simply enchanting. Definitely not Christmas, but rather a
stiff dose of seasonal pagan nonsense with excessive chanting
and unintelligible mumbo jumbo. But then, I play Tomb Raider
not for its spiritual overtones but for the gaming enjoyment
it provides. The level overflows with wintry ambiance from
start to finish, the visual amenities are superb and
everything is lighted to perfection, all of which makes for a
delightful 40 minutes or so. There are no enemies, but a
number of dying opportunities are presented, so it's essential
to be on your guard at all times. Dutchy has given us a
compact but complete written guide that also documents the
level's only secret. It's completely different from Croftmas
Manor, but excellent in its own right, hence my high scores. A
level with more charm you will rarely encounter." - Phil (12-Jan-2019) |

"Nicely created forest level with appropriate textures & atmosphere. Simple linear gameplay. Not much in the way of puzzles. No enemies. Only the one easy secret. Got burnt by a poorly placed moveable block that forced a restart/reload if you moved it out instead of in. Overall good, but I was hoping for more." - Adrian (12-Jan-2019) |

"And so the advent calendar ends with another joint effort of five builders this time. I must say that I am impressed on how the scenery is created, the atmosphere is magical and stunning throughout and I don't notice any "patchwork design" often happening in other team levels. Texturing, lighting, sounds, all are done faultlessly in my opinion and it works extremely well together. The gameplay might be the downside of the whole thing, but it's still fluent and charming for the time it lasts. I just feel that most areas, especially towards the end, are severely underused and you often just find and/or place an item in each of them. There are a few decent tasks here and there, like the timed run, but they are a bit too few overall. I also think that the single secret is little more than placed as an afterthought and way too easy to find, but the object design and the various characters are fantastic and add to the story nicely. Overall a visually stunning and gameplaywise less inspired but still rather enjoyable 25 minute game." - manarch2 (04-Jan-2019) |

"A wonderful surprise to end this year's Advent Calendar - a level to be 'opened' on Christmas morning; what a great idea. The settings are beautiful - it's like running around Narnia - and it all feels very realistic. The gameplay is varied and interesting and should appeal to all. Enjoy." - Jay (03-Jan-2019) |

"Lara goes on a quest to complete her magic dust exchange.
Gameplay is mostly exploration with some action
sequences. More puzzles would have rounded out the level.
There is one pushblock that I was unfortunate enough to
pull outside first instead of pushing it in, and it
wasn't until much later that I realized an uneven tile
prevented me from pushing it back inside, making me stuck
for good and needing an alternate save. The uneven tile
should simply be removed to save frustration. The altered
animations can also cause frustration, for example any
time Lara lands after a jump straight up she stumbles
back a couple of steps. The level is ornamented well,
including nicely animated animals and people. However
receptacles for some of the puzzle objects require a bit
of guesswork. The flybys are nice, a couple of switches
could use camera cues however. Immersion is great as it
usually is for these advent levels. Texturing and
lighting are very nicely done. Overall it is an enjoyable
winter level to wander through, it just could have been
made a little more player-friendly." - JesseG (01-Jan-2019) |

"It's always a treat having a team effort
in the Advent Calendar, and this is no
exception. Lara gets to explore a magical,
picturesque snowy forest settlement to
return the Magic Dust to its owner and set
the Lady of the Lake free. There's a lot
of exploration to do, as well as a couple
of block puzzles, a torch puzzle, a couple
of timed runs and the good old item
searches. I loved the attention to small
details here like the birds feasting on
leftover crumbs and the reindeer that you
get up close with. The Back to Basics
Northern Legends package is used to good
advantage here and shows off the textures
very nicely. I'd like to end this review
by giving a big thanks to the Levelbase
team for providing us with wonderful
seasonal entertainment this year. You all
should be proud." - Ryan (30-Dec-2018) |

"Everything is great except for some strange objects that do
not fit the theme used (in my opinion) parts of the game
that are a bit boring and the lack of nice secrets but the
atmosphere, textures and lighting are perfect." - ameliacrofty (28-Dec-2018) |

"Fun level that takes place in a wintry, mountainous forest.
The design of the level was beautiful. I was left in awe by
the scenery. The level was moderately easy and fun. Another
beautiful Christmas level all Advent Calendar level lovers
should play!" - Victoria (26-Dec-2018) |
