Reviewer's comments
"level inspired by the first Nevada level of TR3 and Underneath the sphinx from TR4 , good idea to have a raid that evocates both worlds. It is possible that some rooms from Nevada desert have been copied here, but otherwise it is not a remake. The first bright half in the desert was pleasant to play despite some backtracking, more than the second half in the temple but that's only my opinion ; why having to climb a ladder each time we have to press the 3 big buttons ? Anyway , solid level with appropiate atmosphere." - eRIC (15-Oct-2023)
"I would say it's an okay level, I like the temple design I give it 8/10" - p1kaa (05-Jan-2021)
"Even when there's nothing innovative here, the same old tasks, the same old traps, the same old movements... this level could be entertaining for many people. Set in the nevada desert, there is a first part in the canyons and the base area and a second part underground in a very dark caves (too dark). The environments are convincent, and the level is solid with no problems to finish (perhaps the area with the timed doors?) but as many times, the author forces the players to take an unnecessary and long backtracking from the final areas to the beginning of the level and from the beginning to the final rooms; not for my taste. Anyway, again a very classic level worth to play if you don't expect great features." - Jose (16-Nov-2020)
"Watch out for the possible torch softlock - there are unused passages so I thought I'm gonna find an alternate way back with it and I lost 2 hours... my bad. One good thing in this game was the ninja ambush from collapsing floor, anoter was a nicely prepared shortcut through the map - but otherwise I agree with Phil about hitting the average... what about NOT HITTING THE AVERAGE for once? I scrolled through the level list and holy crap, this guy (Osvaldo, not Phil) has built over 60 levels and nothing ever happens... omg please build something good or stop already..." - DJ Full (12-Nov-2020)
"Osvaldo has once again hit his high average. This single level actually comes in two parts, one in the deserts of Nevada and the other in a cavernous hub room with myriad challenges to conquer. It's quite elaborate, clocking in at nearly an hour in the posted video (and I'll never again believe any reviewer who claims to have played any level in less time than the corresponding video). In this case I couldn't have done without Treeble's exhaustive written walk, as some of the required backtracking takes you through avenues long since forgotten, and my frustration level would have been exceeded quite early on. But with its help I had a grand time here, reliving the TR3 Nevada levels and negotiating the hazards encountered in those hub rooms. As another has noted, the section with the timed doors and ceiling clues was particularly invigorating, and I required several attempts to get through successfully. These are the kinds of levels that provide the most fun in my estimation, and I can't get enough of them." - Phil (10-Nov-2020)
"I was just in the mood for a nice, light, bright desert level and I certainly appreciated exploring the Nevada style first section. Upon reaching the tomb, things become perhaps a little frustrating in terms of backtracking, but the ‘rooms off a hub’ scenario always appeals to me and I enjoyed the varied trials in each area very much. Overall, I’d recommend this as a fun adventure that is challenging enough for experienced raiders, but not beyond the reach of the average player." - Jay (09-Nov-2020)
"Well, indeed: "Did I really do all that backtracking just for that"? Anyway, I enjoyed the level overall, even though I somehow left some door closed here or there or some movable block I couldn't find any use for, but I enjoyed the settings (not only the Nevada settings, which I clearly like, even though it's somehow been taken over by the Arabs, but the Egyptian part as well). Some of the moments on the latter are very inspired, namely the timed run in a certain sequence of rooms to get an Ankh. I liked the lighting in both sections (and those coloured shades that only appear in levels every once in a while) and I did have a good time. Mixing Nevada with Egypt could easily have been shocking, but it wasn't (even though it doesn't feel quite logical). Thanks." - Jorge22 (08-Nov-2020)
"Much like Chambers of Tinnos felt like a homage to Lost City of Tinnos, this is a great throwback to Nevada Desert from that same game, but also much more, as in addition to the military base in the middle of nowhere is also a nice underground temple featuring a quick fetch-quest for four stones before Lara can make her escape with the artifact in her backpack. Generally speaking the overworld feels quite oversized, and it might just in fact be, but I was in such a state of mind that I didn't mind the long treks — even when I took them in the wrong order, I was still making shortcuts for when I actually needed to go down those paths. Lighting seemed rather simplistic for the most part, and generally speaking the ninjas and the standard TRLE horizon looked very out of place. The author also included an "alt" version featuring another playable character, I've played through the first 10 or so minutes and didn't notice any changes, so I'll just assume it was there as a bonus option. 85 minutes, 3 secrets. 11/20" - Treeble (08-Nov-2020)
"I'm actually among those who tend to enjoy Osvaldo's solid and generally easygoing raids, but I have to say that this surprisingly lengthy two-parter mostly did not work out so well for me. Not that there isn't a lot to accomplish on the gameplay side of things, but there's also a fair bit of rather tedious backtracking which seriously dragged the pace down and slightly spoiled what would otherwise have been a fast-paced and enjoyable raid. The repetitive blue and red ninja attacks also got boring really quickly and seemed rather incongruous in this Nevada Desert environment. The settings and construction are all competently put together, but the gameplay only really ramps up once you reach the main temple area with its hub room and button puzzle. The tasks here were varied and even ingenious (particularly the trigger tile timed runs and the room that required you to clamber around and jump off columns to reach a higher destination), but it came too late to save it for me, I'm afraid. It's undoubtedly a solid raid, but may be a little too aggravating for some players." - Ryan (07-Nov-2020)
"(8) Gameplay & Puzzles
The first part of the level, the outdoor desert, focuses heavily on exploration and has many similar areas to TR3 Nevada (you could probably call the first part of the level "Nevada revised"). So, while not in an original setting, I still enjoyed my time here. The second part of the level, the underground temple, has an Egyptian theme with 4 challenge rooms, with traps, timed runs, puzzling, and platforming. I enjoyed the red challenge room with the timed runs the most (very creative), and as a whole the adventure flows nicely most of the time. I say most of the time because there are 2 long backtracking segments, one after grabbing the flower and one after grabbing the red gem. In fact, the 2nd backtracking segment is especially awful; leading you to a very anti-climatic finale which will possibly leave you shouting, "Did I really just do all that backtracking just for THAT?!"

(7) Enemies, Objects & Secrets
Erm... the hoard of stock TR4 Egyptian enemies I will discuss in the next section regarding immersion. I feel like the builder spent a lot of effort into decorating the outdoor desert area with objects, but the underground temple area was sorely lacking in object decor. One secret, in the outdoor desert area, was pretty much just a copy of a TR3 Nevada secret.

(8) Atmosphere, Sound & Cameras
TR3 sound cues and cameras were used well throughout the adventure. I think that the atmosphere of the outdoor desert area was very good, however, the atmosphere in the underground temple was lacking. I think more variety in architectural design, instead of just giant boxy challenge rooms within the temple, would improve the atmosphere. I also don't understand the story that the builder is trying to tell -- are we in Nevada? If so, why the Egyptian textures and baddies? Are we in Egypt? If so, why the cacti? (I learned a new word!) Perhaps improving immersion is something for the builder to consider for future projects. If not, could the builder please consider making a level mashing together my two favorite settings, Oriental and Venice? It doesn't have to make sense!

(7) Lighting & Textures
Take your time here. The desert area is well-lit, but I noticed quite a few texturing mistakes. Wallpapering is evident in the underground temple and I would have liked to have seen a bigger variety of Egyptian textures to bring the temple to life. The lighting is pretty flat in many areas underground, although I enjoyed the builder's use of colored lighting regarding the 4 challenge rooms.

In sum, aside from 2 ghastly backtracking segments, I enjoyed the gameplay. Although not challenging, TVT is varied and engaging. I do think TVT lacks a certain epicness that was in 2 of Osvaldo's previous levels that I have played; Temple of Lud and Chambers of Tinnos. Having played 3 total Osvaldo levels now, I can safely say that his gameplay ideas are solid, but I think he can improve on appearances and immersion (and cut down on backtracking aspects). My suggestion to the builder is to take your time with this, even if it means you're not pumping out levels every few months. I really do enjoy your levels and I hope my feedback was constructive. 8/7/8/7." - nerdfury (04-Nov-2020)
