Reviewer's comments
"I'm not a fan of using maps from the original trle stock, it often feels like lazy effort - but this one was quite pleasant. The pushable through spikes could be done better since a player has an easy chance to tank damage there. I also wish there was English audio, however I found a translation on YouTube which made me understand the plot. The rest is a quite immersive, enjoyable adventure. Actually recommended." - DJ Full (04-Apr-2023)
"For me, not better than the first version, the levels here are too dark (there are enough flares, of course)and the game is based only about look for hidden switches and drag some moveables (and the backtracking for the torch too). I missed some more variety of enemies (the objects are well placed) and some puzzles. The textures are well applied, but the continuous darkness doesn't let you enjoy the environments and properly explore (yes I know the second level is underground and the first one by night, but even so...). The best for me was the good atmosphere and the cool cutscenes but unfortunately I couldn't undesrtand the italian dialogues. Worth to play but it's not very interesting." - Jose (20-Sep-2021)
"This is a pleasant exercise in areas devoid of any hint of the Easter bunny. As the level wore on I kept wondering why I was accumulating all those explosive arrows, and when the boss guy arrived at the end I found out why. I first exhausted my supply of normal and poisonous arrows before using the explosive kind, and I still had plenty of them left when the boss guy finally exploded. The only really obscure part of the level was a jump switch near the end that I would never have found had it not been for the posted video. The traps are not too difficult to negotiate, and there are a few simple pushblock exercises along the way. One can always count on Talos to deliver an entertaining raid, and this one is no exception. Recommended." - Phil (14-Apr-2021)
"Not entirely related to the traditional spirit of Easter, but still another enjoyable addition to the Aspide calendar. The visuals are noticeably cleaner this time around than in Talos' debut offering and the added cutscenes help with the story progression pretty nicely. Gameplay doesn't really provide anything too complicated or head-scratching and there are no complex thinking puzzles as such, but the general fast-moving gameplay combined with the pleasurable surroundings still make this a worthwhile game to play." - Ryan (14-Apr-2021)
"It’s some years since I played the original of this game so I can’t say how much the gameplay differs (if at all), but the look of the whole thing is even better than what was then an impressive debut by anybody’s standards, and there’s a completely new ‘not Lara’ character in the lead role. Ostensibly a three-parter, the overall game is not long, but it packs in plenty of action and some interesting cut scenes that are really crying out for an English translation. It doesn’t actually qualify as an Easter level, but I’m not going to quibble about that when it’s such an enjoyable experience." - Jay (12-Apr-2021)
"Here we have custom with three levels which I very liked. First level is short level in TR4 Cairo vibes and two others in egyptian/roman/punic themes. Gameplay was pretty good, there were some really cool ideas and puzzles in second level. But in some parts gameplay was very basic like get key, open doors, push lever and open another door, especially in first level. Second level was definetly the best. It have really creative environment, beautiful atmosphere and good gamemplay with some puzzles. Lighting and textures were very well done. Level does not contain secrets at all. Overally it wasn't long level, even with three levels it took me something around 55 minutes. But I definetly recommend it for short and pleasure raid." - BlackWolfTR (09-Apr-2021)
"Another nice Easter gift from Talos that took me 30 minutes to finish. The gameplay in the main level is quite similar to the builder's debut level, but there were differences. I did not enjoy the dark and gameplaywise simplistic first level, and missed some more puzzles in the second that were present in the original. On the other side, the visuals are presented more clean than before and there were some nice cutscenes, sadly I couldn't understand most of it as there are no subtitles this time. No secrets to find, sadly. Overall a solid level but I'd prefer the first version over this one, despite the builder's skills having improved since then." - manarch2 (08-Apr-2021)
"I was a little let down when I saw and played this level, because I'm familiar with Talos works, and how much he has improved his building skills over the course of the years. I was expecting a darker atmosphere with good cutscenes, but I don't know how to express this properly, but I find some transitions to be a little awkward, also there too many pushblock sequences which make little to no sense for the progress of the story and the level. That is the reason I gave 4 for this level's Gameplay. The player starts in a night City of the Dead level, goes to visit Jean Yves and then goes to a bubbly and bright level (outside of a Roman/Byzantine/Egyptian catacomb), the contrast of these didn't give me a good impression. Also the player could have spent a little more time polishing the objects, because there is a drastic contrast in tone of the Claudio/Lara outfit from its neck bellow to its head. Several objects and puzzles which were featured on the first map were absent from the remake, and some of them actually made a little sense to the overall flow of the map. The first map is basically, collect some keys and have a run with a jeep. There are some details which were left without some proper care, for example, the final Boss bolts simple throws shoes at Claudio/Lara. Also there is no sound while Claudio/Lara plays the harp. Some of the rooms are way too crowded with different objects being thrown there without proper care. If the level is a mixture of those themes I mentioned before, he should have customized some of them to follow the same Roman/Byzantine/Egyptian feel (the same feel that it is both shown at the title screen and at the beginning of the second level), instead it become just a bunch of objects munched together. I was aware that the last battle was also a bit loud, so I should turn my music down, and I think that the builder should have thought about that as well. Also it is a shame, the levels feature no secret. Overall, apart from the transitions. The Atmosphere, the cutscenes (even though I didn't understand them), the sound, cameras and lighting were on point. The texture gives the vibe that the Temple is actually a culture of its own and the author should really have implemented this aspect over the rest of map and its objects." - Richard Ba (08-Apr-2021)
"Even though I wasn't able to understand the dialogue, I could still feel the power from an immersive story driving this level. There are three levels, but most of the meat is in the second level. The first is a prologue that has Claudio take a short joyride in a jeep after collecting some keys – one of those requires a pretty difficult jump and you can't use the action button due to some bad object collision below the ledge, so you will need to stick the landing just right. The second level is the bulk of the gameplay, where Claudio explores a tomb while solving simple pushable object puzzles, blowing up skeletons, pulling jumpswitches (some of them are in overly tricky locations), dodging blades and spikes, and using a torch to get to Metgart's dagger. The third level has Claudio summoning Metgart and promptly putting him in his place, thanks to hundreds of explosive arrows. All three levels are visually strong, excellent use of lighting, decorative objects and textures. Overall the gameplay was middle-of-the-road for me, but the atmosphere really sells this levelset. 53 minutes." - JesseG (07-Apr-2021)
"Besides having felt lost in translation throughout this trio of levels (the last is rather short), I got much fun from it, at least after I started finding all the explosive arrows. It's not exactly Egyptian (or is it?), but it looks and feels basically Egyptian, which ends up not being a problem because it's still homogeneous and quite well built. The atmosphere is convincing. Two major puzzles among all the exploration and a few traps: a) The torch puzzle. You find it at the start of level two, but you'll wander throughout the entire said level wondering when and what you can do with it; b) The last level and the king that takes a few hundred times more fire power to destroy than usual (to the point that you have to ask yourself whether you may be missing some switch or lever somewhere instead). Nothing to do with Easter, but quite enjoyable indeed." - Jorge22 (07-Apr-2021)
"I played It and i Loved it! Super recommended for those people Who love hystorical references because It is full of the them. I Also recommend It for everyone Who love egyptian ambients and Cairo levels. I must say that i have not that bond to history in general and this Is only my fault because I could love and understand in a much Better way what this and other levels actually have to say. Nonetheless it has an immersive story (I'm Italian so I can appreciate the dialogue too) and It has Very well written characters like Claudio. I really love the location and there are several puzzles, that are not so difficult to pass by tbh but they keep you busy and I loved them too because they make this level very well balanced. I didn't play many custom levels but I have to say that this must be played by every player who love that kind of locations, a good story with the main carachter who Is not Lara Croft. I appreciated the reference to Talos's father in the painting and i had to write it here because i know She cares :-) ." - deviLuke (07-Apr-2021)
