Reviewer's comments
"Not much to say about this one actually. If you like TR3 London, this will be right up your alley as it stays true to the original vibe. I am not a huge fan, so it was a middle of the road experience for me. There are a few issues with unintended shortcuts, but of course you should choose to play the intended way for the full experience of about 45 minutes or so. Quite a few enemies, but easily dealt with due to ample weaponry provided. Make sure you find the rocket launcher secret for some extra fun. Biggest irritation was that alarm sound that kept going for far too long." - MichaelP (19-Mar-2024)
"Good level. Ofc I found a possible softlock, and a skip which allows a finish in 3 minutes, but worse is the chance to climb a very long path only to realize an item is missing from another path, so you're likely to either retrace your steps or just reset the game. Also, I would add some geometry and textures near the map edge cause you can feel the boundaries too easily. Still, the atmosphere is fine and if you're into London atm, you are going to very likely enjoy it." - DJ Full (22-Mar-2023)
"Typical TR3 London level with not that much going for it I'm afraid. There is quite a bit of back tracking to do and I never really got stuck at all. Only found two of the secrets and managed to get across the roof tops without finding a key to access the door that leads across the gap between the high rises near the end of the level. Have no clue where that key lay but finished the level in any event. Took under an hour." - Torry (06-Oct-2022)
"It seems that this level was not properly betatested. The backtracking can be important if you don't choose the way the builder intended, and the monkeyswing with the fire blowers was especially hard for me. Except for this, the game is entertaining, even when there are not puzzles to solve and it's based only about pure exploration, pulling switches, shooting enemies and looking for keys. The architecture is ok, the rooms are reasonably well textured and the camera shots make their function. Not a jewel of the custom levels, but well playable." - Jose (04-Apr-2022)
"I loved this level so much, you play through the whole level to realise you finish at the start, amazing level design. The playthrough of this level is a bit long but the level is very compact and just well made. Secrets are well hidden and if you don't pay much attention you will miss them. I will give it 8/10" - p1kaa (30-Sep-2021)
"I don't go around looking for ways to avoid gameplay while playing custom levels, which is probably why I didn't stumble across a method of ending this level prematurely. What I did was to enjoy a workmanlike TR3 level with no fancy innovations but one that provided a solid raid of about an hours' duration. Along the way you get far more weaponry and ammunition than you'll ever need, but a surplus is always to be preferred over a deficit. The six secrets are generously spaced and provide most of the weapons but only a portion of the armament. Despite the title you spend a considerable portion of your time in an interior section where you swim around a bit while doing battle with guards adorned in various uniforms. The only real glitch I encountered was near the end, when I picked up a key shortly before pushing a button that directed me to it. At some point before then I must have opened the door that leads to the key, but there were no cut scenes apprising me of that fact. Anyway, this is a solid level in the style of Stormchaser, which I intend as a compliment." - Phil (20-Jul-2021)
"This is a decently constructed TR3 effort that provides adequate entertainment but probably won't leave a lasting impression. The atmosphere is convincing and nicely evokes the original London levels, while texturing is solid throughout although it's a shame that room decoration was somewhat lacking and some of the larger areas were just crying out to be spruced up a bit more (and a couple of the textures tended to glitch in and out of existence at times). Progression is generally linear and simple, although the backtracking was a little onerous and I would have preferred a few more puzzles (although the traps and platforming sequences were sufficiently enjoyable), plus I rather got the feeling that I left a few areas unexplored which seemed a little unsatisfying. Decent enough without being memorable." - Ryan (19-Jul-2021)
"This level is not (properly?) beta tested - not only can you finish this in no time with an angled backflip from a slope, but there are many other shortcuts and when you jump to the crawlspace behind the fires without extinguishing them first you'll face a dead end as well. Texturing also needs a lot more care with several misplaced and even missing textures (especially outside), there is a floating trapdoor as well as enemies appearing of thin air and cameras aren't particularly helpful, especially when doors are at the other end of the map. The gameplay indeed features a good bunch of to and fro and only occasionally has a few mildly challenging fire traps or jump sequences. What I liked in this level was the TR 3 London atmosphere that manages to be nostalgic without being a remake. Texturing sometimes manages to be effective as well. On the other side, many of the interior rooms are bare and square and very sparsely decorated with objects. It is not a totally bad game but has too many things that simply shouldn't be present in any experienced builder's game, so not all too enjoyable for me. Finished in either 5 or almost 30 minutes, with all six mostly easy secrets found." - manarch2 (12-Jul-2021)
"This level was very reminiscent of TR3's "London" before it go to the difficult parts in the original title. Though this level had no clear direction on where to start, there were three main areas to complete before finishing the game. It is possible to accidentally find huge shortcut and finish the game in maybe five minutes like I did. It was a fairly dark game as TR3 is dark in general as far as the contrast goes. Supplies were more than plentiful and makes the game easier to finish. I'm hoping for more from this author, especially with the TR3 engine!" - g12STL (12-Jul-2021)
"This level is a prime example of the importance of beta-testing: so many times I performed tasks in an order unenvisaged by the builder - and subsequently arrived at impasses to further progress - that I was tempted to ditch the whole thing.Actually, with a bit of cunning,it's possible to bypass the central 'corridor and reservoir' section entirely, and perform an unorthodox jump to the final ladder climb (shortly before the intended Finish Trigger, placed at an entirely unsatisfying and arbitrary moment). Assuming the player follows the builders planned route (a potentially unlikely scenario without the aid of a Walkthrough),they will have a reasonably enjoyable experience. Numerous guard attacks;a timed swim;roof and alleyway jumping;and a rather demanding steam gauntlet keep the action fast paced - even taking into account the amount of backtracking. The construction could be described as solid, provided the player doesn't come face to face with the end of the world;lighting and texturing is decent;and the atmosphere sufficiently suspenseful. Altogether,it's a level which tries hard - but the ease with which a player can potentially go astray very much works against it." - Orbit Dream (04-Jul-2021)
"Good level lasting about one hour the first time you play it and if you don't do things in the most optimized way , i particularly like the gameplay in the outside rooftops areas while in the main insides around the pools it is less eventful, even with the monkeyswing/fire burners trial which is easier than what it appears if you are familiar with the behaviour of TR3 fire emitters. Enough pickups with some rather easy secrets , it was good to find all the weapons. the conventionnal enemies fit in and there is enough cameras for the unfolding of things although the one showing the door opening to the key was strangely very short. Some compressed textures. Good level with the appropriate atmosphere, the end is a bit abrupt." - eRIC (01-Jul-2021)
"You probably start with Lara being unable to move until you delete the config file (justice be done, it's mentioned in the readme). What is there to say? It's on the dark- ish side, the enemies are well placed, it's easy to jump to the final area and get confused without a necessary key and make all the way back, the goodies (weapons and other stuff) are rewarding, some parts of some areas seem to be there just because (even though one feels invited to jump and get there - over the pools, for instance), the general atmosphere is ok, the design is ok, it's on the easy side, and the end is utterly abrupt and takes you back to the start. I had a nice time, but not memorable." - Jorge22 (01-Jul-2021)
"(7) Gameplay & Puzzles: This easy-to-medium difficulty adventure (~1 hr) has plenty of pleasant exploration; it was interesting to start outdoors, then go underground, then back out on the rooftops. However, beyond the actual exploring, the tasks just aren't very memorable -- unfortunately there are no puzzles in "London Rooftops", although there are a few traps sprinkled in here and there. Also, the backtracking is a bit much if you don't explore areas in the builder-intended order. The platforming is very straight-forward and almost all of the tasks can be completed by a newer player (as long as they are thorough with checking each area), with an exception of a monkeyswing flame trap gauntlet. A minor note for the builder: you can reach the end of the world by performing a running jump opposite the crane, onto a sloped side of a building. (7) Enemies, Objects & Secrets: The engagements with the goons were decent, however the ending is anticlimactic without a final fight. There's actually a "goodies room" shortly before the end of the game, so I was getting all pumped for a boss fight (particularly considering all the sweet weaponry and ammo I had collected) so I was pretty disappointed in the ending. There's not many decorative objects to bring rooms to life, and the 6 secrets are quite easy, although mostly enjoyable (the rocket secret, after a swim, was way too easy though). (9) Atmosphere, Sound & Cameras: The atmosphere and architecture is the strongest aspect of the game, and the builder demonstrated skill in creating authentic-looking rooms and establishing a sense of place (such as staring out of windows and seeing other London buildings). I would say that the atmosphere is a huge improvement compared to "Revisiting the Wall" from earlier this month. My only suggestion for improving the atmosphere is that a few building backdrops are paper-thin; it would be better if these decorative buildings were "fleshed out". Sounds are done well; there are many different classic TR3 sound cues, all appropriately used, and the background ambience is fitting. There are many cameras for guidance, although sometimes the camera would show me an area I had not discovered yet (it's not a big deal, though, as the non-linearity of this level is not excessive).  (7) Lighting & Textures: On a quick glance, the London textures look great, but a keen eye will spot many squished textures for smaller tiles. There's also a glitchy texture near the large reservoir that you flood, and I also wasn't a fan of an unmarked ladder in the area with the alarm. Lighting is pleasant, generally, although quite a lot of smaller/connector areas have very flat lighting; this is particularly noticeable in the final rooftops area. Overall, the gameplay was pleasant, but just didn't really feel substantial. It's much better gameplay-wise compared to the builder's previous release from earlier this month (so good job on that), however I would encourage the builder to pay extra attention to texturing for future projects. 7/7/9/7." - nerdfury (29-Jun-2021)
"I generally enjoy playing TR 3 levels. I liked this one in particular for the plot and the search for secrets. The gameplay takes place between the rooftops of London and in some floors below, including swimming pools. You have to look for a key to the Simpony complex and it will take a while. Enemies are present in the right situations and sometimes surprise. My vote is meant to reward the construction of the plot. Just as the choice of textures does not affect the rating, because I consider that the author wanted to stick to the style of the TR 3 levels." - Roberto (25-Jun-2021)
