"Again one of those where you either guess the correct order or you waste a lot of time retrying things. I get such errors might be hard to fix, such fix might even destroy some gameplay, but what can I do? The truth is, when I finally beat the game, I was really tired. Also, the fire puzzle made me replay the entire plot all the way up to it, since I didn't have enough meds for it the first time I reached it - so the design is both great and terrible in the same moment. Eventually, I think the last secret should be a blue shotgun to make use of all those shells except from the one they already got. The rest of the game is very good, unique custom assets of textures, objects and music so it makes up for the issues and is the reason why the level was one of those I had more patience for than I usually do. I'd say try it, with getting stuck or without, and meet one of the most unusual brains in the community. On towards Nucca..." - DJ Full (05-Jun-2023)
"Lara wears the capitalism costume Eidos gave her that ultimately led to the downfall of Core Design back in the days. Milking the series wasn't smart but, fortunately, we still got the level editor in 2000 and we can now share custom built level for free in a way akin to game communism. Political considerations aside, this level is humorous, cleverly built and demonstrate a great technical understanding of the Tomb Raider Engine. The first interactive cutscene is really well done and is a great way of inviting the player in the humour of the world the author built for us. I think this level might be the best work of Drobridski so far in terms of classic tomb raiding. It's not a short level, it's non linear and every ingredients from traps to puzzles are there. There are only a few enemies but placed in just the right place to represent a welcome challenge. However, some things could have been better. Some timed levers could have used a musical cue to indicate they were indeed timed. The fire trap was a bad design IMO. The player should not have to willingly go into a deadly trap as part of the design, even if a stack of joke medibooks are given just before. The indications for the maze were also a bit too cryptic unfortunately. This is the weakest point of the level. I also encountered a bug that forced me to reopen the door and drain the pool because the fire I've lit before suddenly went out after a load. I blame the TR1 Engine, but the author definitely pushed it to its limits. By the way, I loved to have a real sky, albeit monochromatic, in a TR1 level! The atmosphere and texturing could not have been better. Collecting the 21 secrets wasn't easy nor too hard and was an interesting challenge. I would definitely recommend this level for experienced raiders." - TimJ (23-Jul-2022)
"Another particular level from this author. Drobridski always surprising us with new features and original musics (starting with the cool outfit, lol!). The gameplay is sometimes confusing, it's not easy understand what the author thought and the way to proceed; another times I was forced to repeat the same tasks/movements to can go on. Of course, I couldn't find all the shotgun shells, I could see some of them but for me was impossible to get access 'cause the tricky jumps. The environments are convincent, but the texturization is "rude and crude" in some areas, even with some "cracks". The cameras work well, always helping, and some rooms were too dark for my old monitor (no flares in TR1). Again another original level but not easy to play. Only for TR1 lovers." - Jose (18-May-2022)
"I did intentionally wait for the walkthrough before attempting this one, forewarned by the mentioned obscure sections in the reviews. Even then, quite a few bits of the gameplay in this quirky TR1 adventure are a little too unfair on the player: repetitive platforming sequences that have to be performed numerous times, an obscure block puzzle where the hint is just too easily missed, absent or misleading camera clues (particularly for the timed runs) and the "burning Lara" sequence which really was overdoing it a bit (granted it is possible to avoid with careful jumping) and my patience did wear thin a couple of times. It's a shame because it has a lot going for it: nicely constructed environments, a couple of nice roman numeral puzzles, quirky object design and music, neat opening and ending cutscenes and some ingenious uses of items that actually aren't all that obscure. I tried the bonus level a couple of times and eventually gave in, but I do admire the builder for putting it together. Definitely worth a go, but probably not for everyone." - Ryan (18-Apr-2022)
"Another weird, creative and unique Drobridski adventure. This time Lara is tasked to venture into some ruins to retrieve an eightball artifact for Thalia who plans to use it as decoration in her bathroom. The adventure is jam packed with the standard Drobridski styled weirdness you've come to know and love. The focus is primarily on puzzles and a few traps with only a few enemies to fight. The atmosphere is nice due to the beautifully designed areas and an abundance of custom textures and sounds thrown in for good measure. The puzzles and traps are interesting and satisfying to solve, though sometimes progression can get disorienting due to misleading cameras and hidden switches. Despite that it's a very fun adventure throughout and probably one of the funniest Drobridski levels that I've played. (Lara's outfit made me chuckle for an embarrassing amount of time.) The bonus level has left me in awe as I can't even begin to imagine what type of black magic the author has done to create something so unique with such a limited engine. It's very difficult and I could not complete it, but I definitely appreciate the effort and creativity. Recommended." - LuxQSD (17-Apr-2022)
"This levelset was a bit of a mixed experience for me, so I'll start with the things I struggled with. I essentially used the fexinspect tool as my walkthrough, and that was because the game does not communicate changes in the level very well. One switch in particular is nasty: sure, it shows that you opened a door with it. What it doesn't show is that it opens a second door and it also triggers a flipmap without letting the player know. The switch will also need to be pulled several times, meaning that the tricky jumps leading Lara there will have to be performed repetitively (especially if, like me, you went there too early). The other big issue I had was the pushable puzzle, requiring two blocks to be pushed far away to two obscure corners of the area. I'll confess I didn't translate all of the roman numerals on the walls, so maybe there was a clue hidden there somehow...either way that moment could have been something else more enjoyable. On the other hand, there were parts of this adventure I appreciated and found clever, such as Lara being turned into a car in the brief introductory level, and having meat be cooked using the midas hand setup. The overall vibe is oddly charming, with various banjo tunes urging Lara on, the word "Ow!" appearing instead of blood, as well as some quirky dialogue and story. I also surprisingly liked the "anagram maze", and the timed runs. Texturing is nice and varied, but the geometry is a bit chaotic and leads to quite a few cracks showing throughout the level. It was certainly an interesting way to spend my time. 45 minutes." - JesseG (20-Oct-2021)
"As usual, the builder presents some unorthodox gameplay ideas with some humour and this alone makes this a worthwhile download. It starts with a very inventive car ride(!) and throughout puzzle design is quirky and diverse. What I didn't like were the massive bits of obscurity in this game, also in some puzzles (the one where Lara is set aflame) but mostly in missing or unhelpful camera hints and some rather unintuitive progression, it is often a puzzle in itself how to proceed but not always in a good way, because it is easy to miss things the first time around and be seriously stuck later on. The environments are solidly designed but seem to be a bit more functional here, despite some carefully designed rooms and well enough sound usage and thus a quite decent atmosphere. The texturing and lighting are not bad but feel repetitive. Of the 21 secrets, some are not at all hidden but some require a bit of careful exploration, I also missed one. Overall, another enjoyable adventure, a bit rough around the edges from time to time but still commendable, and which took me 45 minutes to finish." - manarch2 (02-Aug-2021)
"With his latest installment, Drobridski has managed to bring another charming adventure after the Millionaire Waltz ^w^, that presents its flaws but is otherwisely a nice a fun time :3. Before starting this up I really recommend following a walkthrough as some of the tasks you are supposed to do are either too hard to understand or cryptic.
The gameplay is at its absolute weakest, while in the previous installment understanding the way you are supposed to go on was considerably possible and simple, this one custom is fairly confusing in my eyes despite the little amount of rooms actually explored. Repeating some of the tasks was not good as well, considering how boring they would get afterwards and the maze I cannot really make sense of it. I liked substantially nothing of the gameplay but it works and is fairly player friendly, like or not like that is subjective.
Every object of this level felt uniquely created to the humorous story the author has gone for, from the van to the enemies, it really felt unique. Secrets were a fun task to find, some were fairly ridiculous to find (judging from the video walkthrough) where other were a bit more player friendly, overall an interesting challenge.
The atmosphere tells a lot about the atmosphere of almost non-calanche that Lara and the characters themselves have inside of the game, topped off by the relaxing, albeit odd, soundtrack.
Lighting and Texturing show some cracks, but this is Tomb Raider 1 and limitations make (I assume) impossible fixing some of them without causing glitches, but beyond the obvious lines here and there it all looked consistent and fairly detailed for a Tomb Radier 1 custom level (not as charming as Millionaire Waltz of course).
Overall it is an interesting short experience which is fairly driven to expert raiders due to some quite complicated tasks, the voice mixing is adorable and the overall level is indeed quite good :3 recommended partially :3 Wolfy Regards." - Wolf7 (23-Jul-2021)
