Reviewer's comments
"This screams GMac from a mile away, with its very recognizable style. So you get the solid GMac looks, as always, and fluent and easy progression for the 20 minutes or so that it will last. But - still makes you wonder why the builder felt the urge to create and throw this one out there. Some personal trigger of some kind, which I guess we do not need to be concerned with (?). In all honesty, this basically plays like a brief shooter, but it was kind of fun to make all those bad guys explode - as was the silly amount of jumps in the lava room, which I thought were really funny to hop through." - MichaelP (08-Feb-2024)
"This felt like shoving a politician shoving their opinion down your throat, and honestly the entire level wasn't even good enough to justify it. It feels pointless and only to promote the builder's website, which if that was the point you could have made a joke level and the "message" would have more impact. I say this because the gameplay wasn't anything worthwhile and from other reviews isn't even original- just from one of the areas from their previous projects." - OblivionJaw (05-Dec-2023)
"Well, this certainly pulled no punches vis a vis the builder’s views on Freemasons. Since I’ve never met one (to my knowledge) I can’t really comment! Otherwise, this is a typical GMac level with the familiar austere and grand architecture, except that I was just getting settled in when it ended. It’s pretty much demo length but if you like his levels, it’s worth a look at." - Jay (27-Jun-2023)
"I can understand the disappointed reviews. This looks like a weak and very short section of the builder's past levels. There is not much interesting about it, and the short length makes it look like a relatively low effort. Gameplay is minimal, texturing the usual (a but too square/tiled). Way more enemies than usual, but which just feels like a waste of time (jump back continually and keep CTRL pressed until the enemies are dead). In the end, the author advertises his weird website (which is his right to do, but doesn't make it look less weird). If this was a builder's first level, my rating would probably be higher. But this builder can do much, much better. I would recommend you to play any of the author's older level sets and forget about this." - tuxraider (18-Jan-2023)
"So with this level i found that despite the length of it being quite short and therefore making the gameplay limited, what gameplay we did actually get in this 20 min level was quite fun. Starting off in this very large, spooky and dark chamber making our way around its higher ledges, pool and side rooms looking for items and switches, killing bad guys and dogs i found the visuals and music quite creepy and mysterious therefore elevating the great atmosphere. Now I'm a sucker for timed runs, traps and platforming tasks so when more of these elements were introduced the level started to become more enjoyable for me until i got outside and it all ended lol, so it plays more like a demo in my opinion but it was fun while it lasted." - John (14-Jan-2023)
"Hey - I don't care - GMac was trying to make a point & he did. He's a great builder, & I respect his work, though short." - Juno Jim (04-Jan-2023)
"That was a short and easy (except for the fire wraith that didn't go off) level, with lots of shoot'em freemasons, that I guess they must have been, along the way. You can watch them all explode after three revolver shots, which is soul cleansing in a way, even though I don't share that hatred for freemasons and I never thought of them as Lucifer or Lucifer's minions. It is what it is. In the end, you get a paper with some profanities and George's site address. Excellent. Let's play outside." - Jorge22 (16-Dec-2022)
"I can be wrong but i guess George's main goal with this release is some advertising for his website (the note you pick up at the end). There is nothing wrong with this , but still the level , if solidly built according to the builder's good standards, is short and in the end we have not accomplished a lot of things." - eRIC (12-Dec-2022)
"This could work as a minigame made of GMac's ideas, but unfortunately the duration is short while the pace is similar to his usual - so the game feels like a small chunk cut from his bigger project, and is quite underwhelming as such. I appreciate the use of a sidekick, but I could barely understand what he was saying, sorry." - DJ Full (10-Dec-2022)
"A very short offering built in the usual style of this builder. Nicely textured and lit areas, but also large rooms that look empty and boxy. The gameplay is not bad but feels flat and uninteresting. Not sure what freemasonry had to do with the plot, but oh, well. :) The main problem is that it is so similar to the builder's many other NG levels, that you get the feeling you have already seen/played it. Good enough if you're looking for a stress- free, 30 min (max) adventure." - billie2001 (09-Dec-2022)
"This is an incredibly brief raid by GMac's standards, but it's not too bad for the 20 or so minutes that it lasts. Gameplay progression is very straightforward and nothing too extraordinary (the slope jumps were rather too long-winded for their own good though) and a couple of sound files were oddly pitched, but it doesn't do anything badly wrong at all and the atmosphere and textures are solidly constructed as you would expect. More of a demo than anything else, but it does whet the appetite for more." - Ryan (07-Dec-2022)
"(4) Gameplay & Puzzles: This is an easy adventure that took me about 20 minutes. There is nothing awful about the gameplay but it's not very engaging, either. Explore a few rooms, perform a timed run, dodge a few traps, shoot too many TR3 The Damned guys, and perform some repetitive platforming in a large lava slope room. There are no puzzles. (5) Enemies, Objects & Secrets: Static object decor is attractive, although sparse. I think the enemy engagements were not set up in an exciting way. You get access to the Desert Eagle weapon super early, so you're basically just sneezing in the general direction of the many goons, and they will die quickly. There are a couple of times where they trigger out of nowhere and it looks unprofessional. (5) Atmosphere, Sound & Cameras: The atmosphere and immersion is lacking as there are many large boxy rooms that seem empty. Sounds need more care; when you pick up the 2nd gold skull, EPIC BOOMING music plays -- the kind of music you would expect during a boss fight. However there's nothing epic or booming happening after you pick up this key, so the music choice seems jarring. At times, the builder uses sound clips of a male voice and the sound quality is lower here than all other audio clips. On the plus side, you do get to hear the sultry voice of TR3 Lara a couple of times. The (minimal) camerawork is good. (8) Lighting & Textures: Both of these are well done, although there are oftentimes static objects with color tinting that is too bright compared to the surroundings. You never have to light a flare, which is great. Overall, there are a number of little unprofessional touches that add up to an unpolished experience; gameplay and immersion wise I expected more from a veteran Hall of Famer. 4/5/5/8." - nerdfury (30-Nov-2022)
"This is a short and fairly easy level by George's standards, but I disagree with the first posted review as to its overall quality. Contrary to George's disclaimer, a walkthrough can be helpful to guide the player along, particularly in the beginning where a switch needs to be pulled down twice to initiate a timed swim that's easily conquered once you know what's going on. A formidable weapon is provided early on with ample ammunition to handle all enemies later encountered. Numerous flares are also provided at the very beginning, yet I found no occasion to use a single one. This won't rank with most of George's earlier releases, but it's an entertaining raid that may hopefully serve as a demo for a much more elaborate forthcoming production." - Phil (28-Nov-2022)
"This is a typical offering from Gmac as we saw for the past 5-6 levels. Sorry, but this is not a good level. Boxy and huge rooms with pretty okay lighting. the lava slope sequence was kinda fun but it was a lil bit too long. It's a very short level (probably you can finish it in 7 minutes if you want to speedrun it). I also don't understand the references about Freemasonry? I'm sure that most people will not know who they are (like me) and certainly won't care but this is my opinion." - Kubsy (28-Nov-2022)
