Reviewer's comments |
"Interesting revision of the TRC Rome level. Enough changes to make it interesting. Very enjoyable level all round. Nice mix of puzzles and enemies." - StormChaser (21-Mar-2023) |

"A Reimagine more than i remake i feel here, Tomb raider chronicles is one of my least
favorite TR games but the Rome section was always the the most enjoyable when i think back
to playing it. This level succeeds very well in offering a nostalgic trip to the first level
of the Rome section with enough new areas and new puzzles, traps and tasks to keep it both
fresh as well as reminiscent of the original in terms of a lot of the level layout, textures
and music used. I especially liked the first half of the level immensely and enjoyed riding
around on the motorbike as seen in the original cutscene (which is included here as well) as
it serves a purpose to find a secret as well. The platforming, tricky jumps, timed runs and
new balcony's and areas to explore such as the opera house itself were really nice surprises
and so the add on in new traps, a torch puzzle and some enemies in the way of dogs, rats and
men definitely make for a varied, fun and solid level here." - John (16-Mar-2023) |

"A solid revisit - or better: reimagination - of a well known level, not a remake but very much in the style of TR 5. Not exactly exciting but fluent and not tedious gameplay, a nice visit to the opera, a few more (simple) secrets, decent atmosphere and flawless visuals. I think the level had benefited from a bit more originality. 40 minutes." - manarch2 (14-Mar-2023) |

"A very nice remake of the familiar areas with mostly different and better gameplay, very
well textured and better lighting than the original. Secrets are not hard to find and the
enemies are not very intrusive. A fun raid recommended to players of all skills." - billie2001 (13-Mar-2023) |

"Another great favourite of mine, I'm always up for a visit to Rome and this has all the
elements for a marvellous nostalgia trip. Although there's plenty of the original action
going on, this is not an exact copy and I confess I wasn't entirely upset not to have to
fight the hydras. For those who love a bit of enemy action, fear not; there's plenty of
dogs and henchmen lurking around the corners, plus an encounter with the giant gladiator.
If you like the original Rome levels, you're certain to enjoy yourself here." - Jay (13-Mar-2023) |

"Remakes aren't generally among my favourite
custom level genres, as we've accompanied
Lara to Peru and the like countless times
now. However, I'm prepared to make an
exception in this case as Rome has less of a
feeling of "been there, done that" and I am
somewhat fond of the setting. Everything has
been put together quite competently, the
textures/lighting and atmosphere are
effective throughout, the enemies are
sufficiently engaging, the secret side
quests are nice touches and the gameplay
contains enough new twists to keep this from
becoming too familiar or tedious.
Recommended for raiders of all abilities." - Ryan (10-Mar-2023) |

"Short but good looking and well rounded level. Generally easy and standard gameplay (could say that about the original TR5 level too). The only slightly bad thing was that the ending was abrupt, you collected only one key item and didn't fight the dragons. Also, after it ended, it restarted the level in a buggy way (the video walkthrough shows that too). I had to delete the FMV file, because the game didn't start. I liked how the new level transitions much better from the FMV to the game. In conclusion, good average level that's nice for spending some time playing Tomb Raider." - tuxraider (09-Mar-2023) |

"If you're looking for a stress-free raid in pleasant surroundings that doesn't require the
investment of days or weeks of your time, then this is the level for you. Compared with some
of the offerings I've played lately, I would have to place this one in the "easy" category.
It starts off with an attention-grabbing FMV (whether it's the same one as in the original
TR5, as implied in one of the reviews, I can't say, but I found it to be a nice touch). The
game itself is a mixture of enemy encounters and reasonably engaging tasks, and the generous
total of 8 secrets aren't too difficult to acquire, even if all you get for your efforts is
another golden rose. You'll meet quite a few enemies, and not much firepower is provided for
you to deal with them. I'm not much for challenges, so I played in my usual methodical
fashion, but I found myself using the pistols for a large majority of the tasks. I didn't
try, but I don't know if it's possible to shoot the bell (required for progression) without
the provided revolver and laser sight. Anyway, it has been years since I've played TRC, but
I found almost everything here to be fresh and new, so I can recommend this revision to
players of all skill levels." - Phil (08-Mar-2023) |

"Quite a pleasant remake, much like the original in ways, but also with some nice add-on
touches, namely being able to visit the Opera. Not too simple nor too difficult, I recommend
it to anyone who hasn't played Chronicles (even though it's not quite the same). Atmosphere,
settings and textures, traps, exploration, the baddies (I was expecting the Hydras to do
their thing, but then again I barely had ammo to deal with them), I liked it all. Found a
few secret golden roses, not sure if all of them." - Jorge22 (04-Mar-2023) |

"A very nice, classical raid. Not that challenging but very enjoyable all the same. There was
a simple short cut that allowed one to bypass the only timed run of the level - should
really have been picked up in beta-test. Nice storyline with some humour - particularly
liked the milkshake comment! Also the pushable shelves with a backplate was a nice touch. 8
secrets found. A pity the hydra heads were not in a fighting mood, but the large soldier
took some subduing." - Adrian (03-Mar-2023) |

"Ehh... honestly, it would be better to remove the idio cutscene than to leave it in the shape it's now in. The pigeon room gameplay is also not the best - you are forced to run downstairs to get rid of the fire wraith, then you return upstairs for a torch, then repeat downstairs for the flame, to eventually conclude with another climb upstairs. One thing which is better than in TR5 is that you can get inside the opera. The rest is tolerable and I'd say neither inferior nor superior to the original - mostly it's the same elements but shuffled, managing to produce a comparable pleasant impression. I liked this level in TR5 and I like it here." - DJ Full (03-Mar-2023) |
