Reviewer's comments
"This level features rather easy-going gameplay, ideal for a relaxed afternoon. The puzzles often include two keys for one door. It seems a little grotesque when Lara finds 2 keys placed two squares apart in one room. Other than that, Lara needs to push some boxes and pull some switches. There is also a timed run to be done (easy-to-medium difficulty). I was surprised to find modern objects in this TR3 game. It was a delight! The enemies are clasic, but the human enemies are wearing winter jackets fitting the season. There are a few helpful cameras in this game. The sound includes some church bells which are new, others are TR classics. This level rocks a classic texture set. A few custom textures would have been perfect. The lighting is very basic, which supposedly is normal in TR3. It took me about two hours to beat the game. As I said, it's not a very challenging level and a cute pastime for a relaxed afternoon." - Sponge (20-Dec-2023)
"Not a fan of older engines, but StormChaser is one of the very few builders who convinced me that there is magic in TR3! And I surely prefer the less seen snowy Venice than the usual one. The gameplay, although simple, works really well and the environment is attractive (despite the lack of transition textures here and there) and makes you want to explore more. A relaxing and fully entertaining raid. Recommended." - billie2001 (21-Oct-2023)
"I can play and enjoy StormChaser's TR3 levels, because he takes the old-school approach and sticks to the basic building materials that were used in the original commercial release. Other TR3 levels being released these days play havoc with my computer, presumably because those builders are using modern tools in conjunction with an archaic game engine. Like pouring new wine into old wineskins, the combination just doesn't work, at least not in my case, so I no longer even bother downloading TR3 levels compiled by anyone other than StormChaser. Moreover, his levels are geared toward the more casual player and don't present some of the hair-pulling moments frequently encountered in the more ambitious releases. This one flows rather smoothly from one area to the next, with one enemy encounter after another, but with plenty of weaponry and ammo being supplied along the way. The one timed run was fairly difficult but doable with a little practice. I suffered the crash bug documented in Treeble's walkthrough and in the stuck thread, but my experience differed slightly from that reported by other players (which I've noted in a post). All in all, this is a solid level of just about the proper length, not too easy and not too hard." - Phil (23-Jul-2023)
"I may just possibly have mentioned that I’m fond of a Venice level and I certainly found this to be a lovely atmospheric trip, with the snow falling and the gondolas and speedboats stuck in the ice. Otherwise, it’s pretty much business as usual with the thugs, dogs and henchmen, plus a few savage crows, trying to spoil Lara’s sightseeing. It’s very much exploration based, which I like, especially in an attractive setting. Enjoyable." - Jay (14-Jun-2023)
"A rather pretty moonlit skyline provides the backdrop for this relatively easygoing, enjoyable and typically Tedstone-esque hour- long jaunt. Gameplay mainly revolves around exploration and hunting down various similarly coloured keys, but it works quite nicely in its own simplistic manner and the environments do look absolutely inviting with the chilly, snow-capped outdoors contrasting well with the warm interiors and roaring fires. Nicely done for what it is." - Ryan (09-May-2023)
"We've had so many Venice levels, but I don't remember one with a setting such as this and I have to say it's *chef's kiss*. I'm particularly fond of snowy levels, and this blends that in very perfectly while also doing a rather convincing night setting. On top of that I also want to say that yes, flares were plenty but also unnecessary for the most part, even with the Gamma set to default it was still very well balanced. I might have used only two or so flares throughout the whole thing, and I was actually rather surprised when the stats came up at the end, didn't realize it had been well over an hour already! On the other hand, there were perhaps too many enemy encounters and definitely too many keys, but the good thing about that is the author limits your options, so whenever you hit a key lock without a key, it's never too far away, so you don't find yourself backtracking years on end for no good reason. The only bit that had me stuck was a pushblock which I pulled out of the way and found ammo hidden behind it, and as it turns out the way to proceed was pushing it into the alcove instead (there was no indicator on the tile it might have been a trigger), otherwise the level had a nice flow and pace to it. 80 minutes, 3 secrets. 05/24" - Treeble (07-May-2023)
"It's not just winter - it's a total ecological disaster with snowdrifts several meters high, like if Venice had enough of being flooded, so it decided to store all this water in solid state. Inbetween, we mostly fight enemies for keys, and - while simple - it's quite effective here. The smoke scene was cute, I wish we had more details like this. One thing I would fix is texturing of some high walls - they have a multitude of beams which aren't really needed." - DJ Full (02-May-2023)
"I like Venice levels and i like snowy levels, so combining the 2 is usually a winning option for me when it comes to the setting and enjoyment of exploring that type of environment, and that's no difference here, i did enjoy exploring around and the large layouts of most of the outside areas are lovely with enjoyable platforming and climbing around to do. What i was a bit disappointed with was the objectives and tasks, its mostly finding keys and items to progress with a few baddies to keep you on your toes which is fine for a period but overall it starts to wear thin a bit after a while. You do have a timed run and a small block puzzle actually so there is attempts at variety here and all the visuals, textures and atmosphere is of course very well done but with maybe some traps and different gameplay elements the enjoyment level for me would of been pushed higher but at least StormChaser has once again provided a very welcoming environment to play in." - John (02-May-2023)
"And there she goes to the helicopter and it's a wrap. There's nothing particularly special regarding the gameplay, but I was impressed by the TR3 perfection of the surroundings and the dark, snowy atmosphere. The game consists mainly of moving from room to room, shooting baddies and finding keys, but that's not to say it isn't fun, because it is. Thank you, Peter." - Jorge22 (26-Apr-2023)
