Reviewer's comments
"A really decent raid to be found here, made by a talented builder! I really enjoyed my time with this, the gameplay was pretty good with fiendish traps and a healthy dose of exploration and combat, in a more a preferable ratio of more on the exploration side. I liked the use of enemies, with a couple of surprise additions towards the end of each of the 2 levels. Only criticism I can square at the level set is its a bit on the dark side. Ample flares are provided and tbh the spooky foreboding atmosphere does kind of benefit from it, but I was constantly keeping track of my flare count throughout the playthrough to make sure I had enough and didn't run out haha! I liked the addition of a home level, its something I'm gonna have to revisit mind. My time with it was brief as couldn't find the means to open up the rest of the level. I knew I'd left a bit on the table in terms of the experience there when I'd finished it. But all in all this was a fun experience that I would definitely recommend :)" - Feats (09-Jan-2024)
"It is odd sometimes how levels seem to get overlooked by the community. This one was released about 6 months ago and had only received 5 reviews until December. It really deserves much more attention, because (at least for me) it is truly a great game of about 90 minutes across one longer and one shorter part. I found the whole construction quite clever, as you always had to explore and think a little to move forward, but never too tricky to get frustrating. The atmosphere works quite well, although as others have said it really is too dark overall. There are enough flares around, but I found it annoying to basically run around with a lit flare for 80% of the time. You get a fair share of traps along the way and some tigers, dinos and poison lizards to kill. There are also a total of 10 secets to acquire and again, most of these are quite cleverly conceived and fun to hunt for, plus they reward you with more decent weaponry. I am not sure I found the maze-like 2nd part too great an idea, but it is a rather bearable maze to navigate and it all ends with a cool little boss fight to boost. So again, not sure why so many seem to have missed playing (or at least reviewing) this level, but if you did, it really is something you should be correcting soon." - MichaelP (09-Jan-2024)
"This game has a lot to offer. Good architecture, interesting exploration, traps, nice sequences, a good variety of enemies, a very atmospheric environment, nice soundtracks, good texturing and lots more. What I didn't like was the lighting which was too dark even for me. One of the very few times I had to increase the brightness of my monitor to the full and that was not enough, I also had to increase the gamma. There are lots of flares, don't worry about that, but this is not a good solution, imo. Despite this, I recommend it for everything else." - billie2001 (13-Oct-2023)
"This is another very decently crafted TR3 offering, this time in a rarely used Barkhang Monastery-style setting. Gameplay is again mainly centered around exploration and a fair amount of nicely challenging trap sequences, although finding the correct route to take first might have you vexed for quite a bit. What somewhat spoils things a bit is the omnipresent darkness which dogs the player seemingly wherever they go. Yes, the textures look nicely crafted and the lighting is effective elsewhere, also plentiful flares are scattered around, but it does get a bit tedious having to scour every dark corner in case you overlook an opening or a switch, or have to perform an already dicey jump sequence and have to trace it with a flare first. On the plus side again though, the atmosphere is on point indeed, enemies undoubtedly pose a challenge (particularly the raptors), the secrets are very nicely executed and offer generous rewards and the two boss battles round proceedings off very fittingly (could have done without the maze at the start of level 2 though). If you can get past the darkness, this is well worth a look." - Ryan (29-Aug-2023)
"Disliked
  • I'm not a big fan of mazes, and the second level, well, has Labyrinth in its name. Thankfully its structure is rather simple compared to mazes I've seen in other customs.
Neutral
  • The lighting is nice and colorful, but it is really dark. I unlocked the gamma setting and bumped it from 2 to 4.
Liked
  • There are plenty of traps such as a giant boulder, spikes, and circular blades.
  • There's also a good variety of TR3 enemies used, from tigers to a T-Rex, peaking at a final boss fight with Puma.
  • The architecture is good, especially in the first level where it opens up to a vertical layout that is nice to explore.
  • The secrets, or at least the ones I did find, were pretty interesting, especially in the second level.
Time: 1 hour 17 minutes | Difficulty: Medium | Rating: 8.25/10" - JesseG (27-Jul-2023)
"The level shows the competence of the builder to design a good TR3 map and an atmospheric one, it is all about exploration with some good ideas of traps jumps and secrets ; It would have been gripping but sadly darkness was so strong it was only painful trying to get through it, even with enough flares. In places you just don't know where you are jumping to, and my screen brightness was at the max. The second level is only a small maze with a boss at the end. Good musics and texturing." - eRIC (14-Jul-2023)
"Another level which is OK except from the lighting, and it cannot just be solved by adding thousands of flares, and gamma 10 is not a solution either. In return, you will get spooky mood in immersive blend of several oriental assets, nicely used soundtrack and more than one plot twist- though as always, I would like to see something happen after taking the final pickup. Maybe it's not a full-length adventure but it has almost all the elements in smaller scale. Recommended for any evening. Oh and there's also a home level for starters." - DJ Full (10-Jul-2023)
