Reviewer's comments
"Firstly, this contains a slightly updated version of the first part of Jungle (making the original download not needed to play both parts); I didn't know, but it sounds like the updates are pretty minor. Despite being part 2, this level pretty much entirely drops any links to the original Tomb Raider 3 Jungle level, beyond a couple of vague resemblances to parts of that game's India. Freed of overt signs of being a remake, this level goes even further with the visuals, and looks great throughout, with it mostly being set in temple environments (after the outside-based starting section) that make use of a lot of new effects and objects that go way beyond anything in the base game (especially things like the amount of foliage). The lighting and textures are near flawless throughout, with only a couple of areas that seem a little weaker looking, but not enough to take away from the overall effect.
Now deviating almost entirely from the original, you begin in a semi-open Jungle area, which then leads into the Temple that makes up most of the map. Quite a bit of exploration is needed initially, with a large Jungle to explore, but the later parts become more linear and focus more on traps and puzzles, although you tend to have a choice in the order to tackle things. It gets somewhat tougher as it goes, but it's not much beyond India in TR3 itself. Only having one secret felt a little odd, given both that the original level had more and this is a longer level, but there are still plenty of rewards for exploring even if they don't count as secrets. At the end you find the meteorite artifact (followed by a nice escape sequence), so this feels a bit like a compressed version of TR3 India in general. Overall an even better level than part 1; I don't know if the author had plans to make more remakes are something else, but hopefully we get more from them." - Mman (29-Jul-2025)
"Well what can I say ! I loved part 1, and part 2 is just... awesome ! This is what a remaster should look like - the same graphic touch as the original but enhanced with new textures, lots of extra objects, new vegetation, rain, light & water effects; the musics we love are all there but there is also some new ambient sound... But this is of course a brand new game (with hints nevertheless to the original TR3, and not just India this time). It has an interesting balance of very rational puzzles (various mechanisms in architectural spaces which have a lot of symmetry to them, which is a nice aesthetic signature) and a forest so lush that virtually any object gets completely camouflaged... The natural settings are really delightful, especially the pools of water, you really wish you were there :) And even if the atmosphere has a joyous feel with bright sunlight, there is still this sense of being alone and lost in huge impressive remote ruins. The closing sequence is very nice. Exciting and gorgeous level !" - OrFractal (25-Jul-2025)
"Clearly a step up from the part one, the additions to said level were pretty nice such as adding some extra challenges to enter the tall building and in general the new stuff was really well done. In the second level gameplay started really nicely, although (in general) some rooms could've just been cut in half because they were too big, looked somewhat wallpapered and gameplay just didn't make it out for the size, although I must admit they were pretty imposing. My biggest complain is that it just dragged for too long, at the last areas the gameplay just felt somewhat repetitive. Now, the atmosphere is pretty much a 10/10 and so is the sound usage and cameras, although something that didn't really fit quite well was the high resolution objects used which didn't really fit with the surroundings. Lighting and texturing was really well done other than some stretched and wallpapered textures. All in all, a pretty good level that you might want to go in a casual mode, recommended." - Neltharion (23-Jun-2025)
"The improvement compared to the first part is substantial. It's like comparing Uncharted 2 to Uncharted 1, to the point where it feels like it was made by a completely different person. The level is very solid in all aspects, with the possible exception of the action, which is quite scarce. However, there's a good dose of exploration, traps, and puzzles, which are never particularly difficult. There's only one moment towards the end of the game where you think, "Wait a minute, I'm missing something here!" Honestly, I found it surprisingly quickly, but it could easily be considered a secret. Some of the scenes are breathtakingly beautiful, with a special mention to the giant statue of Ganesh. The final section is exhilarating and serves as the cherry on top, leaving you with a very good impression. Great job!" - requiemsoul (13-Feb-2025)
"I played Part 1 from the current download which bundles Parts 1 and 2, and I was pleased to discover that your accumulated pickups are preserved as you begin Part 2. The jungle setting is much the same in both parts, but you get roughly double the playing time in Part 2. The variety of tasks in Part 2 is more well-rounded, too, and you have a number of pushblocks to move around to accomplish different objectives. Gameplay is somewhat on the challenging side, but I don't recall many places that required more than a few attempts to conquer. The environs have been constructed with much care, and I had an enjoyable couple of hours here while preparing a written walk for posting. If this is a maiden effort from this builder, it's a well done one indeed." - Phil (03-May-2024)
"It's always encouraging to see a high- quality TR3 level and I enjoyed this one quite a lot. The surroundings are stunning from start to finish (the architectural standpoints being the elephant statue room and the waterfall area with the ruins near the start), the attention to detail is charming (particularly the sunbeams streaming through the foliage and the falling leaves) and the custom objects are a charming addition. Gameplay is mainly exploration and trap-based. The former can appear quite daunting at times, but not too much so as even if you do follow your own path, you can make decent progress and usually find what you're looking for. Enemies are well placed but not too difficult to dispose of, especially if you find the shotgun, the Uzis take a bit of acquiring though. Loved the escape sequence after grabbing the Infada Stone too." - Ryan (22-Dec-2023)
"To start I loved the builders choice to include an updated Part 1 in the one download with this level. While the first part was inspired more by Jungle from TR3 I'd say I got more Temple Ruins vibes from Part 2. Like I said in my review of Part 1 the builder definitely puts their own mark on the level and it looks and plays amazing! Loved the use of music and effects in both levels, it really had a polished feel to it and the builders hard work is plain to see and executed well! As far as I'm aware these are the only 2 levels released by the builder and if this is the standard I can expect going forward, I look forward to playing whatever Calypsis releases in the future! Good job!" - Feats (14-Nov-2023)
"Several times i thought i was near the end after finishing raiding a big area but there was more to come and that was welcome as this level is pleasant to play, without being very difficult, the progression is steady. Some impressive spots in the looks department , the gigantic elephant statue was cool, one can also appreciate new objects. Fitting atmosphere while the enemies did not cause too much health loss to Lara. Very good one." - eRIC (29-Oct-2023)
"As for jungle levels, I think this made more sense to me than Reflection of Eternity. Could be a mother of all TR3 levels cause I've never seen that much detail thanks to Troye's patch. I think the levels like Poseidon's Sanctum and Willard's Hideout should also use it to reduce flickering as it's very satisfying to see things repaired and combined efforts flourish. Highly recommended." - DJ Full (27-Oct-2023)
"Liked
  • Really good use of objects here. I love moments like walking into the room with the elephant statue with the leaves falling down from above.
  • The architecture is also great and lends to a strong sense of atmosphere. There's plenty to explore in each elaborate area.
  • Plenty of traps will keep Lara on her toes, from crushing stone columns to rolling blades, especially after she has grabbed her prize.
  • The combat throws the classic TR3 jungle enemies at Lara, in particular quite a few of those statues that come to life, which will put all that ammo to good use.

"I've also played the first Part One and, finishing the second part of "Jungle", i can only say that Calypsis really understands the classic tomb raider level design philosophy. To be honest, the game engine is very outdated, and it takes skill and vision to build, with it, immersive and believable environments. Such is the case of Jungle-Part Two. Each section of the level brings something new in terms of design layout, puzzles, atmosphere. The jungle itself is very organic and dense. In terms of gameplay, it's a classic tomb raider 3 experience. Part one and two, could be easily be considered a 5th level of the original Tomb Raider 3. I really wish to see more levels from this author, as well as some variety of themes, and maybe even a set of levels that could be considered a game in itself. PS: I found uzi clips throughout the game, but didn't find the weapons, so probably i've missed the secrets alltogheter." - Deceneu (14-Oct-2023)
"I played both parts back to back and enjoyed the 2nd part more. Locations were very picturesquely constructed & atmospheric with the gameplay heavier on the exploring side rather than on complex puzzles. Found the only secret in the second part. No shortage of pickups. The only downside was the non-rising trapdoor soft-lock in the version I played - but fortunately I could enable DOZY briefly and so continue and finish this enjoyable jungle jaunt." - Adrian (12-Oct-2023)
"Visually this level is amazing. I loved exploring the lush environments that are decorated very nicely with TR3 India textures and all kinds of plants. Moreover, several custom objects have been used to give a unique touch to the environment, some of them including light ray objects that perfectly match shapes of the holes in ceilings, flowing water archs, and the giant Ganesha statue, which was some of the coolest things I have seen in custom levels for a long time. In terms of gameplay, I liked the fireroom puzzle, which has a similar idea to TR3 swamp puzzle, and the flipmap area containing a pool, which has to be flooded and drained. However, majority of the gameplay consists of finding numerous switches and items to open doors, which gets repetitive quickly. Occasionally, you are faced with battles and traps, but these, in general, pose very little threat to the player. There are also push block puzzles, but the solutions to these are quite obvious, since you only have to move the blocks to certain spots to reach higher ground. Despite my criticism about gameplay, I still highly recommend this level due to its beautifully crafted and atmospheric environments." - Samu (02-Oct-2023)
