Reviewer's comments |
"I was looking for something not too long and fun and I’ve never played a pirate level before so I thought I’d give this one
a go and I’m glad I did because this was very entertaining!
It Starts off with Lara exploring around outside in a bright sandy pirate town in and out of buildings and cosy dwellings
and on top of rooftops etc. gameplay is initially looking for ways to progress, searching for items or new areas with
climbing and the use of vertical and horizontal poles before moving onto underground areas such as caves and cellars
where it progress to shooting and torch tasks. Traps include spikes, rolling barrels, crumbling tiles and nasty blades and
unfortunately the only enemies were pirates of course lol and those damn annoying rats that your can’t kill. Later on we
find a cog to open a gate leading to a beach looking area where I thought it was going to end but it luckily didn’t as then
we get another cool climbing exercise before a short but fun little jaunt on a motorbike which ends the demo.
Overall I thought this was fantastic for a demo, it has a great setting and environment to explore as well as a variety of
fun gameplay and tasks, the only slight negatives for me was the rats of course, more timed runs please and naturally
the length of the level! I wanted more! Looking forward to the full version." - John (06-Dec-2023) |

"Fairly short level (20 mn). A few opponents to eliminate but if you find the grenade gun, it's quickly done. the
multitude ofmices is very annoying, a trap should have been provided to eliminate them. The shimmy is not very fast.
Friendly atmospher" - grizzly (16-Nov-2023) |

"A non-demanding, atmospheric snack built of various resources but mixed so well you won't notice any clash or seam. As always in case of such demos, the fun begins when it ends, so be patient and wait - I'm sure there's something to look forward to here." - DJ Full (25-Oct-2023) |

"A short taste of what's to come in Part 2 of Feder's interpretation of what would have been
TR4 Gold. A complete change of scenery from New Orleans to the sunny Port Royal. Relaxing
gameplay in a beautiful environment. Not a big map but there were plenty to do. Good
atmosphere and superb texturing, but the lighting was flat in most places (lack of sun
bulbs?). All in all, an entertaining short raid (about one hour for me) which I recommend." - billie2001 (21-Oct-2023) |

"I've been looking forward to part 2 for some time. Brief demo but very enjoyable. Feder
seems to build his levels with player enjoyment in mind which I always appreciate and tend
to gravitate toward. I look forward to the full experience when I can play part 1 and 2
together." - Lorax (15-Oct-2023) |

"Not only has this talented builder given us another rare (for him) TR4 level, he has given
us one in a classic style that brought back some fond memories the first time I fired it up.
You get the impression from the ambient sound that the action takes place near the ocean,
but you never actually see the water. Gameplay is fluent and sometimes becomes a bit
challenging without ever getting beyond what a beginning player can accomplish with a little
effort. A rather obscure detail was having to push a ram figure on the fountain to open a
trap door near the beginning of the level. The enemies consist mainly of assassins
retextured to look like red-coated pirates, although you do have to deal with swarming
beetle-rats during a torch exercise. The lighting got a little too dark in places, but ample
flares are provided. Two of the three secrets (both near the very end) are easy to miss and
don't really make a difference in this demo. What was most impressive to me was the detailed
and imaginative surroundings that really draw the player into the action, and if the full
game should prove to be as enjoyable as this teaser, we all have a treat in store for us." - Phil (15-Oct-2023) |

"This really is quite a juicy demo, and
sufficiently whets the appetite for more
after the rather unceremonious ending.
There's enough to keep you occupied for the
duration though, with some pleasing
exploration, sneaky traps, a nice little
torch puzzle, three nice secrets to go for
and a (sadly very brief) jaunt on the bike.
The surroundings and atmosphere are gorgeous
too, and fit the pirate theme nicely. Nice
one." - Ryan (15-Oct-2023) |

"Pretty short demo. Gameplay is good. Except at the start, you need to find a hidden lever. I thought this was a bad idea, because it's not recognizable as lever. It's completely unintuitive and I only found it from looking at a WT video. The enemies get annoying sometimes: too many ninjas, and those damn mice (the spider swarm from TR4) when you use the torch and can't get rid of. Visually, the town is pretty nice. In my opinion the outside area could have been involved more in the gameplay. It makes you want for more, although you leave the town at the end of the level." - tuxraider (13-Oct-2023) |

"A very pleasant and quite short raid. Mostly simple, nevertheless interesting and enjoyable
gameplay. The village is charming and looks very nice. I like the use of textures which
make the design pretty unique. A few misshapen textures here and there but nothing really
major. Apart from that everything looked very polished. I enjoyed it and I can recommend it
for everyone." - BlackWolfTR (13-Oct-2023) |

"This is a nice, easy, unpretentious and relaxed level, which is not at all a bad thing,
quite the contrary! This is my favorite genre, and I do expect from such levels to be
"classic", and this level is as classic as it gets. Gameplay is well balanced when it
comes to platforming, action and supplies, and the levelbuilder could have easily added a
few enemies more. Geometry is well built and meaningful, which isn't always the case with
the more recent custom levels. The level is also well balanced when it comes to geometry,
objects and textures, with only a handful of minor errors which do not disturb the
gameplay and don't spoil the overall impression. The levelbuilder should have chosen
another background theme (audio track), as this one is "Egyptian" and spoils the overall
atmosphere a bit (we hear that we're in an underground stone/marble tomb, and we see that
we're in a wooden cottage, for instance). Lighting is okay, although there is a room for
improvement here as well. Textures are well selected and applied, sounds are perfect (no
errors there), and secrets are cleverly hidden. Gameplay is "classic", but in my book,
that is a good thing, especially in this genre. I immensely enjoyed playing this level. I
am looking forward to the full game. Highly recommended for all those who want to spend 30
minutes playing a nice-looking, classic and relaxed level and truly enjoy playing it." - Nina Croft (11-Oct-2023) |

"Ok, this is an actual demo, not one of those so-called demos that end up giving you a full
level's length - that's why I can't rate it higher, but I hope it's understandable. I found
the secrets were super-interesting (who'd have thought of going back to the house's stairway
where the barrels rolled from to find a secret you couldn't have gotten before you had the
crowbar)? And not only. But what I liked the most about this demo was that it flowed,
something you hardly ever see in current levels that are supposed to give you entertainment
before anything else, even if they do have other obvious pros), and, most of all, the sharp,
clear structures and lighting - it doesn't feel at all oppressive, which I can't begin to
say how great it is. Really nice, and I'm looking forward to the full game." - Jorge22 (10-Oct-2023) |
