Reviewer's comments
"Judging based on what this is - a set of 8 unfinished levels meant to test environments in Tomb Raider 2 as built in Tomb Editor - there are some nice ideas here. My favorite "look" to levels was in "G2" and "springboards", both pf which combined TR2 lighting and aesthetics quite well with Tomb Raider 4 textures. I would love to see a level someday that combined Tomb of Seth and Temple of Xian, since both have rich reds in their rocks and architecture. Beyond this though, there isn't much to recommend actually playing any of the levels for more than a few minutes: "Festival of the Dark" is a cool title, but features extremely difficult jumps and combat; "carbontest1" and 2 feature eclectic and color-customized textures drawn from TR2 Gold and TR3 Tinnos and India but does not create a lingering sense of cultural atmosphere (where is it supposed to be?); "cac21", "keel", and "venice test" are basically style units for textures or architecture from the standard Tibet, Maria Doria, and Venice levels of TR2. Lighting is largely absent, and while I enjoyed seeing some custom textures, some levels are literally wallpapered with only one or two. I think this would have been more interesting as a video release than as a playable game in its unfinished state." - Cbl (13-Feb-2026)
"This left me with a strong feeling of unaccomplishment when I finally finished writing the walkthrough; so much effort and a pathetic number of attempts to clear certain certain areas and all for naught. Some of the ideas here are borderline sadistic (looking at you, Festival of the Dark), but sadly it's not all rounded up so even if you make it far you won't make it far enough as either it's a jump that you can't do, a door you can't open, a trapdoor which won't raise, or just a plain dead end. Some of the entries did add up to as much as 20-30 minutes a piece while others are simple small room showcases, which I suppose was the author trying to study a general environment atmosphere to chase when building a level. Lots of untextured surfaces to be found too, but for the most part it looks good. 85 minutes, 1 secret. 01/24" - Treeble (07-Jan-2024)
"Not remotely as hard as I thought, however some parts just don't work. There should be a description of which things are unfinished/ignorable as focusing on them distracts from the real objective. I would also put finish triggers to clarify when a test is over. I would skip carbon1 and carbon2 because a finished version of these is released. Still, I had nice time here, maybe except from killing those jade guys in the festival level." - DJ Full (19-Dec-2023)
"Its always interesting to see ideas and test levels from this builder . especially when you have emerge into his released levels . cant really put rating and isnt fair obviously so i put 4 fives although it should be less . The main problem here is that you dont know when the level - room - task ends so you cant be sure you found or played everything it has to offer . 1) G2 level is just a trap task and nothing else 2)Festival of the dark is the most complex, with difficult tasks and many enemies (which there is a safe way to beat them) . the underground - slope - shooting bell is the part i couldnt finish although it has been materialized in his previous release . the pushing boxes are bugged when moving them opposite direction , the bars never manage to open even if i can shoot through them . the mysterious head which changes place reminds me of another trle (maybe vinci's or qunai's) but couldnt find how to connect all these . 3) Keel is just a showcase with no gameplay and pushing block that doesnt helped me 4)Springboards , i managed to progress enough until the 2 'jumping tiles ' -dead end, was there the finish ? 5)Cac 21 : easy and found the finish trigger 6) Carbonet 1 is shorter and easier than 2 , the back landing into curved tile was new for me , no finish trigger also 7) Carbonet 2 is more complex and difficult , managed to finish it but not with the last 'right' jump i just jumped above towards the finish 8)Venice is cute Im not a builder so i cannot say anything about the construction or building skills although as a player im a fan" - Petaludas (17-Dec-2023)
"I'm always weary of being the first person to review a level, but I shall try my best nonetheless. Reviewing test levels is always a tricky task, so credit must be given to this release for being noticeably more substantial than other test levels. Unfortunately, the levels included herein are either ridiculously easy and over in a flash or (at least to me it seemed) absurdly difficult, either due to unfairly tricky manoeuvres or overpowered enemies placed in inconveniently tight spaces. Maybe all these were the author's intention, but all these combined do not add up to an enjoyable raiding experience. Sorry." - Ryan (15-Dec-2023)
