Reviewer's comments |
"a nice little level, i absolutley liked the leveldesigne, starts in the ocean on a island and ends in base under water, the mission is simple get fuel for your boat but sometimes the simple things are awesome." - Raider278 (19-Jun-2024) |

"It's not often that a level gives you the feeling that it's a masterpiece although you know
it isn't. Creativity, well balanced and interesting gameplay, and an environment that feels
new and fresh are the reasons, I guess. Well, this is one of those levels. Very heartily
recommended." - billie2001 (07-Jun-2024) |

"Every now and then, you play a custom level
and it just clicks with you real well on all
counts. Out Of Fuel is one of those
instances. I simply loved the variety of
gameplay on offer here, and the difficulty
level is perfectly pitched to be accessible
to any reasonably experienced player, but
contains enough challenging bits to never
become tedious (nothing too frustrating
though). There are numerous highlights, but
if I had to pick a few I'd go for: the timed
run initiated by a giant hamster wheel(!),
the conveyor belt sequences and the
submarine boss battle. The surreal near-
invisible ninjas were neat touches too. All
taking place in a beautifully textured
environment. Honestly, this was a near-
perfect raiding experience." - Ryan (29-May-2024) |

"Alphonse has hit us with a recent flurry of levels, and thankfully all are of the TR4
variety. I found this one to be quite a bit more difficult than the first of the four I
played (Escape from the Ship). In fact, there were two sequences near the end that I felt
cried out for savegames to be provided along with the written walk I prepared: (1)
navigating a moving walkway, lasers and death holes to reach a side room and (2) the timed
run in the hallway guarded by the drill-bit machine (you need at least 8 seconds to mount
and climb that ladder surface past the timed trap door). The tasks are varied and engaging,
and plenty of flares, weaponry and ammunition are supplied so that the player never has to
worry about running low. A fine effort, and I'm looking forward to playing the remaining two
levels." - Phil (27-May-2024) |

"Bugs/Functional Issues
- Keep a save when entering the area past the magnets, with the mechanical boar and crates. This is noted somewhat in the readme, but with the boar alive I ran into glitches involving a keycard disappearing on me, or never appearing at all when a crate gets broken.
Liked
- There are several interesting traps for Lara, including an underwater mine field and that killer sweeper machine which seems to be a bit more sentient than its TR3 counterpart!
- Save your harpoon ammo, as there is a submarine boss fight! There is another boss (the TR5 "shoot its eyes out" kind) and a few other enemies as well, which are next to invisible for some reason.
- There are also some nice puzzles, including pushable blocks and a floorpad mirror room.
- The industrial architecture is mostly standard fare, but the texturing and lighting really help sell the environments. The last secret area is also a pretty intriguing place.

"Out of fuel, life is cruel. Lara's motorboat runs on high-pollution TRNG, but it gave us the best refill (not filler) level since No More Gasoline: rich in octanes, fuel of surprises, with novelty one nafta another, and perfect for tank's giving. The one place I dieseliked was where I ran on fumes. The odd return to the surface was also mind-benzin. Later I was not pe-trolled, so an average Jerrycan play this beautifuel mission. For it, the oil has been forming since the Carboniferous. Skipping it is a kero-sin. Rammstein would be proud." - DJ Full (12-May-2024) |
