| Reviewer's comments |
"Were this the author's debut, it would be a creative riff on the Playable Tutorial Level
with some unique designs and some pleasing textures and lighting at the start. However, as
this author has released other levels before, and the lighting and texturing go
significantly downhill about 2/3rds of the way through the level, I've reached the same
conclusion as other reviewers that this must have been built prior to the levels the
author already released. As it is, there is something nostalgic from the early days of
TRLE captured here: completely vanilla move set, the odd mix of textures and objects that
makes Tut1 instantly visible, the square rooms with overly detailed ceilings, and the
predictable (or, as the walkthrough puts it, even "inevitable") enemy encounters. What
could possibly happen in this sloped hallway with a boulder-sized trough on the bottom?
Lara has to find out. While my interest flagged around the same time the builder's did
(once Lara emerges from the tomb, hugely stretched and wallpapered textures take over and
the number of long climbs and even longer shimmies skyrockets), there were elements here I
did enjoy: the beginning features Lara sliding down multiple levels of the titular tower,
reminiscent of Temple of Xian or Lara Croft Go. The game loops the player back here
eventually which is satisfying to see, and this isn't the only example of some nice
looping gameplay and shortcuts that make the game have a strong sense of progression. I
ended up, somewhat accidentally, literally skipping over some of the hidden spike traps
mentioned by other reviewers because I was trying to sprint through parts of the level,
creating an interesting mechanic of Lara sprinting to avoid pitfalls: I've never seen this
executed intentionally in a level, and that might be a cool way to solve something at
speed that might be harder to deal with slowly. Some nice shatter triggers and the stacked
rooms with pushable statues looked good and featured the interconnectedness I look for in
levels of any quality. ~45 minutes, no secrets found (but I know they're there)." - Cbl (16-Jan-2026) |

"Disliked
- Unfairly hidden spike traps and boulders.
- Some of the gameplay is quite repetitive - there is one part of the level where Lara goes through three copy-pasted rooms in a row and does the same task of pushing an object to open the next door.
- There is a maze. At least it is on the smaller size.
- The visuals consist of highly wallpapered rooms. There isn't much going on with lighting either, although it is sometimes used to effectively highlight certain key elements.
Liked
- This tutorial style level offers a decent variety of tasks to do - rope swinging, shooting down a few goons, target practice with vases, and jumping across various pillars. Except for some frustrations noted above, it may serve as a nice break between more intense adventures.
Time: 42 minutes | Difficulty: Easy | Rating: 5/10 - Mediocre" - JesseG (16-Oct-2024) |

"A bit odd, as this builder seems to have started releasing what could be his earliest work
from 20 years ago only in these days. What you get here is a solid 45 min level built with
the Tutorial assets. It flows nicely and has a variety of tasks, but while this would have
been a really good level in 2001, now in 2024 it feels a bid dull, as we have all seen more
of the same too many times. Especially texturing and lighting is very basic. Nevertheless,
the playthrough as such is entertaining enough and it is almost impossible to get stuck and
you even get three easy secrets along the way - so a nice one for in between." - MichaelP (04-Jul-2024) |

"Until about halfway through this level I found myself asking "why are you writing a
walkthrough?", because the action flowed so easily and so intuitively that the game
practically played itself. But then came some occasions where the little gray cells needed
to be put to work, not to mention getting past a few devious traps for which there was no
advance warning. Finding the secrets rewarded the player with the revolver and laser sight,
but there was no occasion requiring their combined use. Again, a solid Alphonse raid with no
laurels to speak of but a pleasant way to spend the better part of an hour." - Phil (10-Jun-2024) |

"This is the sort of level that tends to play
itself, without too many complications. Not
to say it isn't entertaining (although not
one that will stick in the memory for too
long), but you will likely just be able to
breeze through it. The environments are
competent if a little dark and bland, the
enemies aren't too badly placed and the
gameplay flows linearly from start to
finish. It's hard to go into great detail as
we've seen it all before, but it's not badly
done. An enjoyable enough effort and I look
forward to further offerings from Alphonse." - Ryan (10-Jun-2024) |

"Optional. Feels like Alphonse's early form, before he transformed into a badass we know. It's likely a take on cooking a tutorial level by the original TRLE manual - the mechanics are the same, the asset is the same, all is built and presented step by step with no unnecessary steps taken - and so, the result is simple yet not troublesome. I can only paste my eternal complaint about lighting, which looks like if the builder ran out of fuel." - DJ Full (19-May-2024) |
