Reviewer's comments
"What at first appears to be a variation on Tomb of Seth, complete with the befuddled guide needing Lara to clear the way ahead, turns into something more with some unique texture variation and a variety of unexpected enemies. Highlights include the spider lair, with the twisting banyan tree roots from India enhancing the thickly draped cobwebs to give it an extra creepy feeling, and a breakable bridge that requires a solution I don't remember encountering before - it was fun to figure out. The surprise ending was also fun, although the boss was mostly focused on pushing Lara around into the danger of falling rocks as opposed to outright attacking. Gameplay was simple: avoid boulders and lava, find the hole switch, allow the guide to advance until Lara can escape into daylight. There were some minor visual and technical bugs: the horizon draw distance was too short so sometimes it popped into the caves, and if Lara stands too close to a pushable block she can wind up sealed inside a wall on the wrong side of it. However, I'm glad I checked out this short level. For those who enjoy classic TR4-like levels and want a 20 minute raid, check it out. 3/3 (easy) secrets." - Cbl (24-Jan-2026)
"This is a short and easy level, which reminds me a lot of the old releases from the early days of level editing. Gameplay consists of a couple of basic jumps to perform, few switches to activate, few boulders to avoid, and fights against spiders, bats, and dinosaurs. Early on, there is also a room containing a pushable block that is impossible to see without a flare, which felt a little unfair. Environment is made of simplistic looking small cave areas, which, however, do include quite atmospheric lighting. Although it is not a great level in my opinion, it is still maybe fun to play through if you are looking for something that can be completed within an hour." - Samu (25-Jul-2024)
"After the for me disappointing ship level, this 3rd retro instalment is more like it. You visit the good old Tomb of Seth caves with lava pools and boulder traps. The guide is used nicely to open up your path and enemies are at first small but annoying (bats, spiders) and then culminate to a surprising T Rex fight, which is made quicker if you pick up the 3 secrets along the way. There is a softlock with the breaktiles, but easily avoided of course and after less than half an hour it is all over - but for a little trip down memory lane it does its job well enough." - MichaelP (07-Jul-2024)
"A short and sweet visit to a settomb setting, fun enough while it lasts while presenting nothing extraordinary (unless you count the somewhat unexpected appearance of raptors and a T-Rex). The environments are solidly enough textured but rather confined throughout, the atmosphere isn't too bad and the gameplay not too complicated, although it is always nice to see the guide playing his part. The most difficult part I thought was trying not to take too much damage from the pesky small and giant spiders. Enjoyable." - Ryan (03-Jun-2024)
"This is a workmanlike but rather predictable level that provides a decent raid but won't be eligible for any awards. Of the three Alphonse levels I've played thus far, this is the shortest and undoubtedly the easiest of the bunch. No really taxing moves are expected of the player, and most everything can be figured out with a little thought and exploration. There might be one too many of those traps that kill without warning, so it's wise to be cautious before charging into new areas. Along the same lines, the lava pits were put to use a bit too often. There are three secrets that aren't too difficult to locate, and they provide a laser sight and revolver that are never required to be put to any use. This builder reminds me of the now-retired Lukasz Croft's work product: competent, engaging, well-lighted, fun to play and easily forgotten. That's not meant to be disparaging by any means, and I look forward to Alphonse's continued output." - Phil (02-Jun-2024)
"Just watched a ton of brutal videos about horrible fate of people trapped caving and this level appears. Is this a sign? Not really, so I played to find one. You're in a Tomb of Set vibe with Ahmed, so you think at least you won't get stuck alone, but soon the dread kicks in as you realize you collapsed all the platforms and there's no way for him to help you. Alternately you can avoid collapsing all blocks and continue through a lot of light which doesn't really make you feel trapped so the entire thing feels like a stroll. The strongest are nice camera angles. The weakest is building up to end into several tiny rooms instead of something substantial, it feels like a sudden 'doh!' as you get a wall to your face. But the guide does the same so, as I said, you are not alone in this and quite comfy. I would even recommend this level to newbies but save on different slots please." - DJ Full (27-May-2024)
