Reviewer's comments
"I was initially getting valley of the kings vibes at the beginning of this level with the outside sandy/ rocky area and the jeep to drive but that doesn’t last long because after we’ve gotten on and off jeep several times to order to clear the door/bridge obstacles on our drive we find ourselves in a new area with lots of plants, trees and greenery. As we explore the above branches and tree tops we are introduced to the main area of gameplay which is a large room with huge trees to navigate up and across, whether it be simple or tricky platforming there’s also climbing, rope swinging and monkey climbing to do to obviously reach higher areas and rooms hidden up high on the rock walls. The area holds a couple of spike traps, some deadly monkeys, birds, bats and some backtracking back and forth but was quite pleasant to explore overall. The next area consists of another treetop challenge but this one involving poles and spike traps all around each pole which was fine for a couple of times but 4 in a row became quite annoying with the tricky and tedious ledge hopping around those irritating and finicky edges. After finding the gem and placing it, the next door/bridge opens below for you to continue your jeep ride where you immediately find the artefact and avoid a boulder trap before the level ends. Overall I’d say this level was fun to play if you like platforming, climbing or are a huge fan of the using the jeep but if your looking for big puzzles, elaborate traps, timed runs and varied gameplay elements then maybe not but I personally got some enjoyment from it while it lasted." - John (22-Dec-2024)
"Bugs/Functional Issues
  • There are monkeys here, so watch out for savegame issues if you don't kill them. The level is short enough that you should try to finish it in one sitting.
Disliked
  • The climbable surfaces are not marked very well, but once you figure out which textures to grab it is at least consistent.
  • A fake-out texture is used to conceal a deadly pit, it would make sense to just have the pit visible like the other ones.
  • Some of the platforming has to be repeated because of where the doors are located.
Neutral
  • Having just played Escape from the Tower from the same author, the visuals are a noticable improvement. They are still a bit on the simple side but the wallpapering is less severe and there is some sense of natural geometry to break up the square rooms.
Liked
  • Gameplay features the use of a jeep and finding several switches and other items to help open up its path. Like Escape from the Tower, the platforming is usually pretty straightforward, except for a few jumps around the large tree, which can be challenging thanks to spikes and I've bumped up my difficulty rating accordingly.
Time: 26 minutes | Difficulty: Medium | Rating: 6/10 - Ok" - JesseG (17-Oct-2024)
"As the name of the level suggest, you task for the most part is to climb trees which involves typical jumps and literally climbing. In addition, there is a little bit of jeep driving to do and a few eagles to kill. Although none of these tasks were particularly thrilling, there are not any big issues either. I would have, however, removed some backtracking in the largest area where you have to climb on top of the same tree for three times. Regarding the aesthetics, the rooms are quite simplistic and blocky without much decoration. In my opinion, this is not a great level but not a bad one either if you are willing to play something that is not highly polished." - Samu (10-Aug-2024)
"Next in the retro set by this builder and again you get about 30 minutes which make you feel as if you were back in the early 2000s of level building. This time your main tasks are to create and navigate the jeep through a linear path and, as the title suggests, to climb up and down and around a set of trees. None of this is particularly difficult or involved, although the rope swing you get to do twice may require a few attempts to get it right. 3 golden rose secrets added just for the fun of it and some pesky vultures to shoot and it is all over before you know it." - MichaelP (07-Jul-2024)
"This is a pretty short offering by Alphonse's standards, but it still provides an entertaining raid with some devious traps to keep the player on his toes. Actually there's more than one tree to climb, interspersed with several Jeep rides, and the enemies are few in this game. Likewise the need to use flares, as the action largely takes place in the bright outdoors. The three secrets give you nothing but the satisfaction of finding them, and two are fairly easy to locate and acquire. The last one is sneakily hidden behind a pushblock at the very end of the level. An appetizer for the upcoming BtB competition." - Phil (25-Jun-2024)
"Maybe the best looking yet the most boring of the recent level batch by this builder. The triple climb of the same tree isn't needed, and the rope swing is the most luck-based of all I swung this year (gotta do it twice also). Jeep stuff is good and lighting is remarkably finessed, but overall the level could do much better if balanced. Slightly recommended." - DJ Full (16-Jun-2024)
"More solid raiding from the prolific Alphonse, similar to his other more recent efforts. This time, Lara's got herself trapped in some strange desert/jungle place and has to open the way further so she can liberate the jeep and make her escape. It's solely exploration-based, generally smooth- flowing with little to no puzzles (and it was a bit arduous to climb up and down the tall trees numerous times, as well as go from pole to pole, reach an alcove, get back to the pole, rinse and repeat), but the concept is a neat one and it's solidly constructed. Good fun and nothing too complicated." - Ryan (15-Jun-2024)
