Reviewer's comments
"It’s a great single-level adventure including well-designed room layout, texturing and several unique-looking areas. Gameplay is quite non-linear involving fair amount of exploration, but the progression is very smooth, and I never found myself lost since the cameras are used to guide the player always to the right direction. There are also many platforming tasks, traps, and a few puzzles which were all fun to complete. All in all, it’s a very good level which took me 1h 24 min to finish." - Samu (22-Jul-2025)
"Bugs/Functional Issues
  • There is a puzzle with floor tiles with letters, which didn't seem to do anything when I solved it. It didn't stop me from finishing the level, at least.
  • As noted in the level description, there is a collision issue with a stackable blocks puzzle which can get Lara stuck if you load/save on top of the blocks. Turns out an invisible wall forms above the block stack.
What I Am Neutral About
  • There are some difficult jumps, I wouldn't call them "pixel perfect", but close enough that this level may not be easily accessible to all players.
What I Liked
  • A good variety of enemies, including flying books, will stand in Lara's way, and she will be able to make good use of four weapons to dispatch of them.
  • There are three or so different kinds of puzzles to engage the player's brain.
  • The architecture is very strong, and manages to maintain variety between different areas of the library, both indoors and outdoors.
Time: 1 hour 25 minutes | Difficulty: Hard | Rating: 9/10 - Excellent" - JesseG (01-May-2025)
"i'm amazed at the quality of this level, the textures are in perfect harmony, the gameplay keeps you entertained, great puzzles, exploration is spot on, great combat and the ending with the boat reminded me of RE4. it was 1.2 hours of pure entertainment, i liked the custom objects that were made, it left a magnificent level, original, unique and well done. without further words highly recommended for experienced players." - PedroCroft_ (08-Feb-2025)
"Always encouraging to play a high-quality TR2 level, and this is definitely an enjoyable one. It's visually different from some of the usual TR2 or library level fare, with some effective use of textures that I don't recall seeing before. The gameplay remains engaging throughout, with some welcome variety, including a block puzzle which turns out to be deceptively simple. There's also a couple of neat clue puzzles that give the player an "aha" moment. The most effective moment, atmosphere-wise, is undoubtedly the dark basement area populated by yetis that seemingly appear out of nowhere. Very effectively done indeed. It all gets nicely topped off with a pretty hair-raising escape sequence as the library crumbles behind Lara. Maybe the secrets could have contained some goodies, rather than just the trinkets themselves but that's a minor complaint. A very strong effort." - Ryan (23-Jan-2025)
"This level doesn't have any special features, but I'm a fan of classic levels and in this one in particular there isn't too much backtracking and the tasks aren't too hard (except a tricky jump in one of the roofs); hence my high ratings. The overall feel is well textured and lit, the enemies and pickups are well placed in the right places; I might have missed more music in certain areas but overall I quite enjoyed writing the walkthrough for this level. Highly recommended." - Jose (22-Jan-2025)
"Time for another library level I thought and from the screenshots this looked like a huge change in visuals from the usual TR4 style visuals and objects you come to expect from library levels. I think this has to be my favourite library level I’ve ever played (so far) and that’s because of the pure variety of not only the different areas we get to explore like courtyards, rooftops, pools, attics and cellars but also the gameplay itself which is obviously heavy on exploring rooms for many levers and items but with some fun tasks and traps as well. These activities include timed runs and jumps over pools or broken glass, pushable object puzzles a letter tile puzzle (which I had to use a walkthrough for) and to top it all off a surprisingly underground flooded cavern with a speedboat! It’s amazing what you can find. Enemies included some funny flying books, dogs, goons and even yetis lol! With other threats including quite a lot of traps surprisingly with blades, collapsing tiles, fire and closing doors all trying to do you harm. Overall despite the heavy focus on switch finding and getting lost a few times I throughly enjoyed this level and with the fun platforming as well in some gorgeous and intriguing looking areas, I just ate all that spooky nighttime atmosphere all up!" - John (09-Dec-2024)
"Nice looking TR2 level (within the limits of the engine). Good gameplay. Puzzles and secrets none too hard, but the best bit was the nice interlocking map with enough variations on the library theme to keep it interesting." - Adrian (18-Nov-2024)
"This Tomb Raider 2 level uses lots of new textures to sell a unique library theme, with grand rooms and also a nice sense of history with the way the main halls give way to secret side-rooms and the underground sections that are more neglected and support the storyline with experiment chambers and alchemy labs. The lighting is great throughout and is quite varied despite the theme and TR2 limitations too. As well as plenty of new objects to support the theme, there are also reskinned enemies and some surprises that add a small horror element to the level.
Gameplay starts off relatively linear, but it opens up gradually until it becomes quite non-linear in the latter half, but the design is full of shortcuts and interlinking that makes getting around quite fast later on, despite some things that are easy to initially overlook. There are also some nice puzzles, and some good moments of realisation when I worked out what certain details and clues actually meant. It's mostly not too hard, but there are some tricky traps and jumps at times, as well as a decent amount of combat, but you get plenty of supplies. The only disappointment I had is that the secrets don't give you anything for getting them (and there aren't even items near them), I guess the final fight is a little lacking as it has less enemies than earlier encounters, although that's offset by a final escape sequence that adds a final bit of storytelling and intensity to the climax. Another excellent TR2 release with an original theme that it fully explores." - Mman (05-Nov-2024)
"A delightful romp through a beautifully realized (Italian?) library. This is the first custom level I've completed in a long time, and I am astounded at the detail this builder has managed to include in the old TR2 engine. Reskinned goons, animals and monsters; famous art textures, entirely new assets, a beautiful sky box... the works! There are puzzles galore with appropriate music stings and camera signposting, although I cannot say any were particularly difficult (except for maybe one head scratcher, which took me a few minutes to think through). There is also a timed run that demands perfection, but any seasoned TR veteran will get through this with ease. The cheapest moment was also the most hilarious - a trap boulder made out of BOOKS! The atmosphere is most reminiscent of the opera house due to its similar textures and foreboding music track, but there is a unique, sinister vibe to this level despite this. It's fairly linear to start with, but eventually branches out into three paths. You'll travel from the rooftops to the very foundations of the library in search of a pesky occult manuscript. It's all very exciting, especially the inspired finale. Thanks for building, Definitely recommended." - wearless (04-Nov-2024)
"A very fun, entertaining, very well constructed, surprising level. The author has created a new level very well structured and designed. Perfect light, amazing gameplay" - Lordancom (04-Nov-2024)
"I'd wait for a more stable version but it's already very good, with great balance of freshness, variety and consistency - almost everything is new, but not much feels out of place. Highly recommended." - DJ Full (04-Nov-2024)
