Reviewer's comments
"the game is very good, well done. although I played without sound because TR3Main only works for me that way and still remains unsolved, but I just put the loop songs on youtube and went ahead, and found all the secrets by the way even though I did not hear anything just looking at the statistics and I also liked the tomb of ancients. good work and the paris part of AOD has always been very cool to play and the adaptation was great." - PedroCroft_ (08-Feb-2025)
"Agent strikes again with another top quality level! A faithful yet unique recreation of the Paris section of Angel of Darkness. Had a blast going through this level set, the gameplay flowed really nicely. While hitting all the major beats of the original some extra areas were added making it fresh! The levels looked incredible and was a joy to experience. Wholeheartedly recommend this, another must play level from Agent! GG" - Feats (06-Feb-2025)
"Pretty fun demake! Looking forward to part 2 :D" - zuzilino (03-Feb-2025)
"An absolutely outstanding Demake ! If you love TR3 and/or AoD, you're going to love this one for sure. Personally, TR3 and AoD are probably my two favourite TRs in terms of atmosphere and mystery, so I was definitely excited to play this level-set, and it did not disappoint. It may be built with the TR3 engine, but it looks so, so much like AoD. For each level that was demaked, the lightning, the texturing, the architecture and the atmosphere were brilliantly replicated. The music is the exact same from AoD, and the sounds are the TR3 sounds (which is perfect for me). The animations have even been modified to fit Lara not having her backpack. Gameplay-wise, I think the builder did an excellent job at adapting the puzzles and platforming to the TR3 gameplay style, although it still felt pretty easy overall, but that's also how it was in AoD so it kinda makes sense. There were a few areas that were not in the original (like the demake of the backstreets tutorial for instance). As for the secrets, a couple of them were excruciatingly hard to find, the rest were okay (I didn't mind spending time trying to find them, especially when you're in the Serpent Rouge with the disco music haha). AND, do not forget to play the bonus level after you finished the set, it's short but magnificient and once again very visually faithful to AoD (I won't spoil what it is ^^). All in all, a must-play for AoD fans ! Played in Dec '24, in a few hours, all secrets found. PS : the memorial to the builder's mum was really touching and adorable, my sincere condoleances and a virtual hug to you AgentXP <3" - Revenge (23-Dec-2024)
"There´s a long time that I don't play any customs but I'm glad I took this one. I think this reimagination of AOD with TR3 Engine is very good. I was entertained from beggining to end. There's a long time I don't play the original but I think this version is very faithful and respectful to the original doing adapting to tr3 limitations. The only critic I would have towards that adaptation is that I felt missing more rain sound effects that should be present in the first level (in soundtrack) or as sounds in level itself. Other than that, textures, illumitation and other technical aspects were very good." - Adriel (08-Dec-2024)
"What brought me to this level was the intrigue of seeing two of my favourite TR games created as a TRLE. What I liked about the level: 1) To see a TR3 level done in the quality of AOD is simply magical. 2) A small thing but having a safety drop to a small raised point on the floor to avoid health loss is a detail much appreciated. 3) The single falling leaf in the small courtyard is sublime. 4) A cutscene to show where a key goes is a considerate thing to do for the player. What I didn’t like or thought could be improved: 1) A bit of lagging but not enough to impact gameplay. 2) Not a fault of the builder, but I never liked the small debris scattered around areas in AOD that looked like pickups but were not. 3) TIP: I had to download the 7-zip program to unzip the bonus level as the one supplied by Windows did not allow the files to be extracted. Conclusion: A TRLE game based on my two favourite official TR games is an absolute joy to play. If you’ve played AOD before, then this game will look very familiar. But for those who have not played AOD before, you will be in for a real treat. With fair timed runs and plenty of cutscenes to guide the player, this level is suitable for beginners." - Lizard Queen (03-Dec-2024)
"Pretty faithful demake of the early AOD levels translated to the TR3 engine capturing the original's atmosphere and environment. As always professionally built by this builder who never disappoints. Not much else to say really - a nicely done job. The bonus level was not really a challenge, nor was it supposed to be I guess." - Adrian (23-Nov-2024)
"This TR3 release is based on Angel of Darkness, and since I never got past the first level of that version I have no basis for comparison, but I did find this to be an engaging as well as a scenic raid. The builder has provided a tool for enabling the gamma feature, which I will retain for future use where the TR3 builder proves not to be as gracious to players. Despite this builder's admonition to make the setting no higher than 3, I found that to be uncomfortably dark and decided to compromise (I normally jack it up to 8 or 9) with a setting of 5, which was much more to my liking and detracted not a bit from my enjoyment of the game (and eliminated the need for the bountiful supply of flares). There's a lot of back and forth between levels, but it was explained that this was because cut scenes with dialogue can be placed only at the beginning of a level. A bonus level of sorts is provided for those who play all the way to the end, but I found it to be rather underwhelming. Play this one for the charming Parisian surroundings." - Phil (18-Nov-2024)
"Any AgentXP offering is a sure-fire sign of high quality, even when she turns her efforts to other TR engines. Luckily, this TR3 levelset ranks right there with the best of them. It's a hugely enjoyable re- imagining of the original TR6 Paris section, only with (obviously) easier controls. Normally remakes aren't my kind of thing, but I will make an exception here. The surroundings are imposing, the atmosphere is great and the gameplay entertaining throughout, with some neat thought-provoking moments and sweet touches throughout (and the builder's tribute to her sadly departed mother was lovely). There's also a nice little bonus level if you can locate all the secrets (not too difficult though). If the full version sees the light of day, the raiding community is in for a real treat." - Ryan (18-Nov-2024)
"Excellent experience! You couldn't expect anything less from someone as talented as the author herself. A base mix of TR3 with improvements included from TR4 resulted in a quite immersive like that of the classic TR6, which, by the way, gave me as much nostalgia because it has been 20 years since I played the original game. Pretty solid use of colorful lighting with abundant use of static and everything thanks to the possibility that the patch gives to extend the capabilities of the game. A good use of triangular geometry to recreate irregularities in the terrain. Excellent recreation of the characters with whom you interact, the dialogues, all very well done. Excellent handling of the Tomb Editor. If anyone wants to make a remake customized TR6AOD, will have a hard time getting through this project. Furthermore, the personal dedication for the special moment that the author is living is very emotional and far from discouraging her, she managed to move forward and finish the project. Congratulations!" - DaroRaider (17-Nov-2024)
"No guess a success. Feels both like TR3 and TR6. We're not reinventing the wheel but enter a familiar yet altered state, and with quality not given in other AOD attempts except Louvre Galleries - but that one is TRNG/HD so it's like an apple vs orange, an orange vs Delca, or a Delca vs banana. It's nice how clever some substitutions are despite of just classic assets being used, to the point of even creating several plot twists. There's no path choice but we get the best of both routes (thank goodness - I can sip coffee to cutscenes instead of pondering which dialogue option to pick). Good game. If this is followed by Louvre and below, then I'm digging it." - DJ Full (08-Nov-2024)
