Reviewer's comments |
"A 10 minute level that bears many trademarks of a classical debut level, especially the stretched textures and dead ends in gameplay, and only occasionally shows somewhat nicer glimpses like the reminiscences to the coliseum level, some usages of lighting and the final hall. The viking enemies felt pretty random and only 1/3 secrets actually counted, though. One to build up upon..." - manarch2 (15-Feb-2025) |

"This level plays like a test level, its pretty good for showing the different mechanics a
level can have, unfortunately it was poorly implemented.
Things to improve on:
Texturing needs to look less stretched.
Puzzles need to have more layers to them.
Different sounds need to be added.
Things that have potential:
The different bars used for Lara's health was cool.
Although the fmv skin looked good, it doesn't really work with the rest of the world - try
picking something different with old textures.
Boss battle was good, but the sound it made was odd and wish I could have killed it or
seen a health bar for when it would die.
Ok Level." - JimmyBeon (01-Jan-2025) |

"A debut level which seems to recreate the TR5 Coliseum level from mind. The general flow is similar but, as you'd have expected, comes with massive boxy rooms instead. With some more improvement and refinements the author might provide something more substantial in the end, but at the moment it seemed as though as their focus was in the wrong place: new animations (including a running animation which differs from Lara's default movements) and a new GUI where bars are always visible including a fourth one which I never saw in effect, for instance. All the while the scripting is kept to a bare minimum with the level title only as you collect a few Load items to proceed and at least one golden rose which wasn't tagged as a secret (secrets need to be assigned different numbers). I'm not sure the centurion statue could be killed, while this feels like a TR5 level it's still running on the TR4 engine, so I just took the helmet and ran instead. 10 minutes, 1 secret. 12/24" - Treeble (29-Dec-2024) |

"A practice level. Some texturing errors indicate the builder doesn't know all features of TombEditor yet so let's give him time, as I can see he doesn't really intend to make his work annoying. The flow is better than the scores indicate, but you better take those star keys (in plain sight) or you won't finish. Optional. Very optional." - DJ Full (15-Dec-2024) |

"It is amazing that we still find debut releases of custom levels, when we are almost a
quarter century (!) into the existence of the level editor. This one here has many of the
typical hallmark issues of a first level, like a thin wall, stretched textures, inventory
items named load... but in general it does show promise. The setting is convincing enough
and the builder has experimented with many level building features. I did not like the
choice of Lara model, as her animations felt very clumsy and that face just too comical. And
while gameplay for the 15 minutes it lasts is quite straightforward and linear, there is one
major softlock issue with the timed run, as you have to make it first time when you flip the
switch (or reload a save) and in doing so you might miss to pick up the crucial item you
need afterwards to open the next door and you cannot go back to it once the timed door
closes. Also the choice of the two viking enemies seemed very out of place for a Rome
setting. Overall, a quick one to look at and hopefully the builder keeps learning and then
will gave us much more exciting releases in the future." - MichaelP (12-Dec-2024) |

"I realised mid-way through this is supposed to be either a re-creation of TRC's colosseum
level or something similar to that. Ignoring that the whole level is short, the starting
areas use a single texture for the rooms, many textures are stretched, incorrect lighting is
present in many spots, and overall that the graphical presentation is poor, the gameplay
offers some platforming, a shimmy section which is more boring than frustrating, and finally
some combat which feels as it normally does. It doesn't really do anything to make me go say
"wow" nor does it have anything that catches my eye. It took me about 15 minutes to finish
the whole thing, so if you want you can play it. There's definitively better out there
though, especially because of the softlock near the end if you don't take the two puzzle
pieces." - OblivionJaw (09-Dec-2024) |

"A debut effort that unfortunately does bear
a lot of hallmarks of being one. It's based
around a remake of the original TR5
Colosseum section, with a few very minor
tweaks. The gameplay is incredibly
straightforward, the secrets are just lying
around on the path, the textures are crude
throughout and there's a few missing sounds
too. The duration is also very brief (only
11 minutes net time). The only high point
was a nice little platforming cavern
complete with timed sequence. Sadly, even
that is spoiled by a possible stuck point if
you don't collect the second star before
exiting the area. Another one for the review
count." - Ryan (09-Dec-2024) |
