Reviewer's comments
"Now that I'm able to play TR3 levels again, I'm glad to see that builders are routinely providing the new Config Tool with their releases. I'm also pleased that the default gamma setting tends to be 5 instead of the 2 or 3 that we used to be stuck with. Each to his own, but I can see everything around me just fine with a setting of 5 without having to use a flare every other step. In this case, the surroundings show up to good advantage in a mine setting that provides a very enjoyable raid. Some of the tasks are a bit quirky, as noted in earlier reviews, but it's all laid out in logical fashion and the difficulty level is reasonable. There's a place near the end where you have to get down a deep pit with sloped ledges, and I couldn't do it the way the builder likely intended. However, as I documented in the written walk, there's an alternate method that's much more reliable. Supplies are generously supplied, and I never felt worried about running out of something important. Enemies are varied and also quite plentiful. The mine cart rides are not nearly as hazardous as the ones encountered in Bloody Christmas, and for me that's a good thing. In sum, this is an excellent level from start to finish." - Phil (25-Feb-2025)
"After Feder's previous epic (Hidden Dagger 2), this is definitely more compact in comparison, although still of very high- quality. The main focal point of the gameplay is the mine cart, which actually proves vital for you to end the level and is used from the very start. The routes are nicely challenging without being frustrating and there's some interesting areas to explore along the way. The visuals are on point throughout, and the sandy textures do actually work really well with the metallic ones. In gameplay terms (aside from the mine cart), there's some enjoyably effective traps (including deadly mine carts, something I don't recall seeing before), a neat valve puzzle and some fun timed action interspersed with some fun exploration. Nicely done throughout." - Ryan (25-Feb-2025)
"interesting custom level,i always liked mines and even more when using miencart, this time in a desert theme, and when sas dies there is a different death sound, maybe beta?anyway,i liked a lot of what i saw,i found only 1 secret. they are well hidden, but i found the ending a bit boring,i expected something at the end that had something more to make sense than just a dry sky as 200x levels of 2008 did. other than that it was a normal experience." - PedroCroft_ (08-Feb-2025)
"Love to see more minecart-based levels. As always, Feder provides us an amazing level. The gameplay is fun and classic and the visuals are spot-on. There are at least two animations not seen before in any TR3 level (at least by me) - opening a door manually (which made me stuck for quite a bit because I didn't realise it was possible) and pushing a boulder. For some reason I had a problem with destroying one of the first windows in the game which made me think it was a door but managed to shoot it in the end. Other than that, everything was fine. Recommended." - BlackWolfTR (21-Jan-2025)
"Liked
  • There are a couple of puzzles, including the minecart route which is sort of a long-term puzzle that evolves as you progress throughout the level. I particularly liked the values with the rotating pipes.
  • The minecart routes are less frustrating than the ones in TR3, but are still quite interesting. The main mine cart goes in a big loop which makes for easy backtracking if the player misses something. There was only one segment on the rail that I found tricky, but got through after thinking through which steps to take.
  • There are also several other hazards such as boulders, doors and a giant drill for Lara to overcome. Along with a few more spooky guests toward the end...
  • The visuals are very solid, with a nice mix of natural caves mixing with the man-made structures. Excellent use of lighting.
Time: 1 hour 16 minutes | Difficulty: Medium | Rating: 9.25/10 - Excellent" - JesseG (12-Jan-2025)
"Very professional as always. Awesome idea with the warning signs, you'd ask why nobody else did it for 25 years, and even with them onboard the ride doesn't often try to kill you, making a rare minecart level for everyone. I seriously missed more focus on the Native American topic, as after Lara gets the plugs the rest of the work is done for her." - DJ Full (03-Jan-2025)
"Good level, with some nice usage of the minecart in a TR3 Level, glad to see it as it's not commonly seen. The puzzles with the minecart was a highlight for me. Hence the 9 in objects, but because it's the only gameplay I remember, that's why Puzzles is an 8. The enemies weren't very memorable, the enemies may not have needed to be in certain areas. The atmosphere didn't feel right in some areas, very samish in many places. There was a subtle story going on, but only really got a payoff near the end when you finally realise why Lara is in this mine in the first place. All in all, nice level with really good usage of the minecart." - JimmyBeon (30-Dec-2024)
"After The Hidden Dagger 2, this is more of a bite-sized release (although, according to the readme, it was in production a long time). The theme is a mine seemingly in a desert type environment, and, while, as a TR3 release, RX-Tech seems to the base inspiration, it reminds me of the minecart level in Coyote Creek 1, with the similar theme of finding a lost Native American artifact. It's mostly relatively confined, but it opens up for more impressive views at times, and the desert+RX-Tech textures merge well and are convincing. Despite the theme the lighting is pretty bright, although it occasionally has a couple of spookier areas, it generally looks good, although I think a little more colour would have added to it as it's somewhat white despite plenty of shadow and other effects. The object use very strong with a lot of custom objects that also help with avoiding trial and error in the Minecart rides.
Gameplay is relatively straightforward, as the Minecart segments the level somewhat (and there were actually a couple of tracks I never took, so I'm not sure if they're traps or alternative ways), but there's a decent variety of obstacles, and plenty of combat after the starting section. As mentioned above, while the Minecart is used multiple times, the signs used communicate what you have to do, so trail and error is mostly avoided after you work out what they mean. The secrets felt quite easy to find (although the first is quite easily missable, but also has the least extra content), but they have a nice Lost Artifact touch of being their own areas that let you explore certain areas from another perspective and have a couple of unique obstacles. After a bit of a twist, I did feel the ending came slightly abruptly and it felt the end needed a little more to it to feel truly climatic. Not super ground-breaking, but a nice level with some unique touches of a level of quality expected from Feder at this point." - Mman (29-Dec-2024)
"

Feder always manages to surprise and convince me with his levels. I like that the level is mostly straightforward and there are only a few points in the level where you can get stuck. One of these points was the area with the breakers. I ended up leaving the area in the mine cart before getting all 3 breakers. I probably would have changed this so you need all 3 breakers before you can proceed but that is a minor detail.

I found 2 out of 3 secrets and ended up only with the MP5, so there seem to be a lot of optional things to discover (or I was just blind). The different textures and objects that are not from TR3 make the level seem fresh and new. In general I really enjoyed the mine setting.

The minecart tracks are beautifully designed and the story is also very well implemented in the gameplay. Playtime around 1.5 hours. Highly recommended!
