Reviewer's comments
"This is a two level set of Greek themed levels. They mostly stay familiar, but have some original aspects like the use of Tomb Raider 2 Golden Mask textures to make gold more prominent as an aspect. As expected from two of the best classic designers around it makes great use of the TR1 engine features and has consistently strong visuals, with high-quality textures and lighting, although I don't think it does anything especially surprising visually given the talent behind it. Objects are also used well and there's some new features, like being able to examine items for more details and hints, which also leads to some nice integration. While enemies and combat are pretty conventional there's some custom texturing later on that creates a few surprises later.
This is a set that uses Save Crystals by default, and is balanced around that so pulls it's punches a bit by both author's usual standards. There are still some challenging trap and platforming segments though, and, while Crystals are pretty regular, you get starved a little once or twice, but the set isn't long enough for it be an issue. You get route choices at certain points, and there's plenty of non-linearity in bigger areas despite the Crystal balance making the "branches" from the hub areas relatively linear. As mentioned, combat is pretty straight-forward with one or two exceptions, and there's a lot of equipment along with enemy numbers being on the lower side for maps with Sabatu involved. A high-quality set made to the standards expected by two great builders, although it doesn't do anything especially ground-breaking like such a combo might suggest." - Mman (17-Jun-2025)
"Excellent Midas level. The only little detail that bothered me was the rounded shadows of Lara and her enemies - I don't know anything about level building but I suppose the TR1 graphics were reconstituted from another engine. I felt depressed at the beginning when I found out you couldn't save whenever you wanted (now I've just seen in the description that you can get rid of that) but... it turned out to be a very nice feature. It adds up to the tension of the experience, and actually the difficulty level is just perfect, challenging but not frustrating, with some timed-runs, some difficult jumps and the mandatory rolling boulders - even in some places where you wouln't be expecting them! I've always played on PC and it's the first time that I play TR with save crystals and it changes the way I'm exploring, being more cautious and more strategic - this was interesting. The level has a cleverly thought architecture, with beautiful rooms and luxurious caves, some blue sky showing up sometimes which adds a little something to the atmosphere. I was often in awe when getting into a new room. There's a lot of exploration and action, swimming, running, climbing and shooting enemies, and some nice new ideas like the golden enemies and the possibility to examine the objects you collect, with the story unfolding through some notes you gather while walking around. And a nice ending, getting back to light to the sound of the lovely TR music :) There's 2 sublevels and it took me just a litte over 3 hours." - OrFractal (02-Jun-2025)
"A great collaborative level of two ingenious builders. Everything from the gameplay to the visuals is spot-on. There is a story that unfolds in the second level and gives some depth to the place we explore. The mode with saving crystals provides a nice challenge. I like the new TR1X features being used such as the ability to examine certain items and the skybox. I highly recommend this very fun and professional level." - BlackWolfTR (23-Mar-2025)
"Perhaps these two levels don't deserve four tens in every category, but I really enjoyed diving back into the classics from the TR1 era. Just one catch: the platform where you fight Torso and the rest of the golden beasts is too small; however, I don't know if this is intentional or not, but once the enemies are activated, you can jump back to the previous corridor and calmly eliminate them from outside the platform. Highly recommended." - Jose (12-Mar-2025)
"Here's a pleasant throwback to a classic TR1 setting. Hot on the heels of another enjoyable TR1 release, this one was also very enjoyable throughout. The environments are pleasing to the eye (particularly in the second level), and the gameplay consistently creative and entertaining. Enemies mainly consist of the regular Greek crowd (lions and gorillas) and there's plenty of them, but there's more than enough supplies to counteract them. I also found the Torso Boss battle to be a bit easier this time round, despite there also being numerous other enemies to defeat alongside it (don't know whether the entrance ledge was meant to be used as a safe spot, but I took full advantage of it). Loved the escape sequence too." - Ryan (12-Mar-2025)
"One of better team projects. Good except from the first map fragment which is non-linear but favors a specific order and penalizes any other with weaker weapons and passage repetition. The same part has no save crystals in any of those paths so please add some in strategic places. The second level stands up to the first one - unexpectedly instead of overwhelmed I stayed intrigued as the game didn't reinvent the wheel but made it spin a bit better." - DJ Full (10-Mar-2025)
"I found it quite entertaining and solid. The first level is more challenging because there are fewer crystals to save the game, and the challenges are somewhat more complex. The second level is fairly straightforward, except for the final escape. It’s not the best level from these highly prestigious authors, but any player will still have a good time. Both the difficulty and the duration are medium." - requiemsoul (05-Mar-2025)
"I see Greece i play , i see these 2 builders i instant download it . Ofc its a nice designed 2 levels , ofc it is treated with care , ofc you observe and admire . you know what to expect . truth is i havent played any other lvl from these two authors so i dont know whose level are these 2 but i know well what to expect and how pro they are . 3 things i want to notice here : 1) in the first level , in the beginning , you dont need to pull the pushblock so the tile to float so you can procceed to the 1st time run as i recall , you can curve jump exactly to the time-run lever 2) dont know what happened but in the first level , i think the 3rd secret, after a lever , a seismic toss -earthquake happened , room changed , to grab an item and if you step near you hear the secret sound with no items and i imagined that it was a hint for a previous rail-bar door to open with 3 items inside which was also a secret indeed , counted as 2 ? 3) at the boss -animal fight its possible to avoid the 1v8 battle by shooting by distance , no spoiler. 7/9 secrets obtained ." - Petaludas (25-Feb-2025)
"Well it's a huge treat to get another level from Mahetus, as his building style is highly unique, and frankly he can make TR1 levels on par with some of the best TR1 Builders around in my opinion, since his Unknown showcase how willing he is to explore and strain the engine to its limits. This levelset is obviously two levels- one from him, and one from Sabatu. Both are made with clear quality and dedication for creativity, and I've never really found myself getting bored... though after 3 playthoughs of both levels I must say this is still a 10/10 level in my opinion. It does a lot of things right, and aside from some harder moments or iffy jumps, this is a very well made TRLE. [][][][][] Mahetus's section shines in exploration and creative room designs, and the crafted environments of his really pop out very nice. Secrets are nice to look for and getting each one feels like a reward, although the abundance of items means this level is not the hardest one out there, even combined with Sabatu's section. My favourite moment from this level will have to be the room with the massive cage, though it's not much considering everything is great here. [][][][][] Sabatu's section involves some moments of frustration that make sense, such as a long pushable section or the abundance of enemies in tight spaces. Regardless it's typical Sabatu quality and you should not expect he went easy on the player, with a difficulty spike and environments that scream of Sabatu- primarly boulders and enemy counts. I hadn't gotten all secrets here although I must say it was easy enough to beat everything with pistols should you decide to do that. The final boss was annoying because of the small arena, but it wasn't reason to grit my teeth and inject another dose of painkillers directly into my nervous system. Overall... Just fucking play it. You won't regret it." - OblivionJaw (23-Feb-2025)
