Reviewer's comments
"It's a shame that this level seemed to end just as it was warming up, it ended up feeling more like a demo. Having said that, the catacombs textures look rather clean and pleasing (with some effective usage of lighting around those purple flames), the enemy usage isn't too bad and the atmosphere is good. But there's just not quite enough to sink your teeth in for much longer than 20 minutes, and the trap sequences don't require much thinking on the part of the player. As a result, I finished with a somewhat deflated and underwhelmed feeling. On the plus side, it's a good start for a first-timer and there's definite potential here." - Ryan (12-May-2026)
"(6) Gameplay & Puzzles: This is an easy adventure that took 15 minutes. There is some enjoyable classic exploring, but the game ends just when you think things are getting started. There's stuff we've seen countless times before (super obvious 2 pushable pillars in the pool, generic boulder traps, etc). Some weird things: you can crouch to pick up the knot without getting burned; if you shoot the vases in the pool room, the vases will reappear later after the water has been drained. (7) Enemies, Objects & Secrets: Everything is OK here, but object decor is sparse. The player can potentially find the Uzi secret near the end of the game, and it just doesn't make sense for this kind of secret to be found when there are no more killable enemies. (7) Atmosphere, Sound & Cameras: Good use of sounds and camerawork. However I just wasn't convinced with the atmosphere. Many rooms just don't look like they're part of a decayed catacombs; they look too "sterile". I encourage the builder to play around with geometry some more for the future, to create ruined rooms have that asymmetry, walls/floors that are falling apart, etc. (7) Lighting & Textures: Competently done with good use of color. I think the biggest issues are some wallpapering, flat lighting in smaller areas (you can tell that the main areas have more care), and janky lighting in the dark pool area once it has been drained. Overall, a good start, however I encourage the builder to think of more memorable gameplay tasks, going forward. 6/7/7/7" - nerdfury (10-May-2026)
"The game is fairly traditional, with a few minor texture glitches, but the soundtrack is pretty good. The puzzles are quite straightforward yet really enjoyable. As for the three rolling boulders, I feel they start rolling down too early — the boulders are already moving down before Lara even gets there." - cheng (05-May-2026)
"Been a while since catacombs like in retro days, and especially unique in TEN. It’s rather a stub than a full level, with basic puzzles and quite random enemies, but still delivers a few nice ideas and feels like if the author knows what they are doing. We might have a nice new builder in the team." - DJ Full (05-May-2026)
