Reviewer's comments
"You might think from the beginning segment with a sharp sliding jump to a ladder that this will be quite a challenging level, but in fact it's fairly simple and achievable. Competently put together and with pleasant enough scenery, although rather ordinary gameplay, and with a surprising amount of backtracking for such a relatively confined area. You'll find that there are many ninjas and scorpions and there is barely enough additional weaponry to get you through safely. There's a devious boulder trap to get around, but that's about as difficult as it gets." - Ryan (24-Nov-2018)
"A 25-minute quickie that's rated about where it should be. There's a lot of back and forth in a compact game map, as documented in Yoav's walkthrough, but everything is laid out with care and precision, and except for a lack of any flare pickups and the need to use more than you have, it's a pleasant enough raid. The scenery is fairly easy on the eyes, and enemies are ninjas for the most part. It's a routine Egyptian level with few frills, and you won't remember it very long after you've finished playing it." - Phil (18-Sep-2018)
"This is simply about going through different rooms finding switches and stars, short and linear. There are quite a fun parts with the traps but then there's also a lot of backtracking. Secrets are very easy to find. Many ninjas to fight and some mummies that I had to avoid. A level for beginners." - alan (10-Aug-2018)
"I thought this was going to be quite challenging, given the quite tricky jump to a ladder on the initial slope, but otherwise it was fairly straightforward. There are one or two nice traps etc., but mainly it's about exploring (some areas more than once), shooting ninjas and scorpions, avoiding mummies and finding artefacts. It looks pleasant enough and is only approximately 30 minutes long so if you're looking for something short and easy-going this might suit." - Jay (20-May-2016)
"Roaming? This level should be called "Backtracking". I can't understand how a builder force the players to take the same way several times, in this case climb a long ladder. You pull a switch near a door and that switch doesn't open that door, but another distant door, and when you arrive there, you find another lever to open the door where the first switch is. Simply pathetic. The only thing I can "save" in this bad level is the texturization. Where are the flares? I can't understand how a builder doesn't take a few seconds to do a few clicks and place a couple of packs when the level has several black rooms. Not worth to play. A waste of time." - Jose (27-Nov-2015)
"Either the level is too confused, or I was too confused. In any case I am run like a headless chicken through this level and had more than once no plan what I actually should make here. However, I assume sometimes from the fact that the problem lay with me. Since basically the level is rather easy. One must find only the star of the Orion and the star of the Sirius. But exactly this wanted to prevent several Baddies. And because one finds though the shotgun and the Uzi's, but little ammunition, they would also almost have managed it. But even almost. And thus I was after about 25 minutes at the level end. One or two opponents less were been better. Or a little bit more ammunition. But, nevertheless, thus it was a little bit unfair, particularly if suddenly 5 Baddies appear at the same time. The textures are ok, but the lighting is mostly monotonously bright. All together a respectable level with a few weaknesses." - Scottie (23-Jun-2009)
"Well nothing original a typical Egypt setting. Ninjas scorpions mummies around the usual hands and a spike ball that block the way at one point. Everything was straight forward until the slide with the spike ball it blocks the way and if you don't use DOZY or try to squeeze past it with patience and a lot of jumping you're stuck. Really stupid if you ask me to place the ball so close to the door; pity because that trap was a good one and not easy to pass. Apart from that I found two secrets and finished in twenty minutes. It's just an ordinary level." - Kristina (17-Aug-2003)
"I had been putting this level off for a while as I had already played 'Sunburn' by the same author and assumed this one would be as hard. I was quite surprised to find that apart from the beginning slide and a boulder trap later this level was much easier and only took about 25 minutes to get through. There are two hands to locate before you finally climb back out into sunlight and a few ninjas along the way I thought there were plenty of pickups though and at least two secrets. The level itself was typical Egyptian and really only had the camera angles to make things interesting." - RaiderGirl (28-Jan-2003)
"This level is a very tiny but real jewel. The author gives a perfect example how to describe the German proverb 'In der Beschränkung zeigt sich der Meister'. You CAN do very much with very little. There are some 'neat' hidden climbing walls here all cameras are just right (not a single one is out of place that one in that room with the dog faced god laying down is just perfect). Atmosphere/action wise the upper room with the 4 ninjas springing into one line is great. And all this without any real new textures. Had a short but a lot of fun with this one." - bERT (03-Oct-2002)
"I assume the name of this level comes from the roaming that you have to make back and forth through the same areas which made the level feel quite compact but still played really nicely. Playing at around 30 minutes a lot of care was taken in the placement of enemies especially the adrenalin pumping shock attack by 4 ninjas at once in an extremely confined place. The only real downside were the couple of annoyingly distant fixed camera angles especially the one right at the end but with 3 secrets and a challenging spiked boulder run this was a fun little level so check it out." - Sash (21-Jun-2002)
"From a difficult starting jump to an easy first secret this a little over 20 minutes level holds to its title and sends you roaming back and forth although not in huge areas as you may assume. All 3 secrets are quite easy to find enemies are mainly ninjas with one particularly nice battle and some good and some not so good use (at the end) of camera angles. I enjoyed the gameplay as it gives you a feeling of accomplishment. Certainly lighting and textures could use some additional work." - Michael (21-Jun-2002)
"This was a reasonable level that was marred by a few illegal slopes somewhat simple puzzles and tedious gameplay. There was one spot where you needed to outrun a spike ball before it blocked an entrance but as the start of the run was at the bottom of a slide it was impossible to get away from the ball without dying. If you opted for the safety of a nearby passage you simply could not proceed without cheating. So hit DOZY and within 20 minutes you will complete this level." - Torry (21-Jun-2002)
"A short level about 25 minutes where Lara has to find two hands move a statue avoid a trap and kill ninjas to escape from an Egyptian palace. I have found 2 of the 3 secrets to disposition and a bug not serious described by the author. The lights of some rooms are good and there are a lot of ninja and few medipacks so pay attention!" - Boris (21-Jun-2002)
"Well I was expecting more roaming to do in this level but the short 20 minutes were fun as well. Starting with a hard sliding jump the level progression was quite nice with rolling boulders and enemies lots of them! Lara's quest is the Hand Of Sirius that opens the doors to outside the tomb and the finish of the level. I loved to roam through this nicely textured tomb it's a pity that it was too short." - Treeble (21-Jun-2002)
"For a first attempt at level making this is quite a good one. Took me about 30 minutes and yielded three secrets. The rooms are sometimes a little bland and reduced to the basics. I like the fight with the four baddies at the same time best. The fly-by cameras especially the one at the end are a little confusing. There is one place in the level where if you go wrong you get stuck without dying." - Qwendo (21-Jun-2002)
"The author says the title comes from the fact that Lara needs to go back and forwards to solve the level and this unfortunately becomes its problem. For a TR level to work it needs to present new problems along the way and to design something where you need to return to old places becomes stale. There are some nice ideas here and some strange camera angles (one of the prone coffin means that it's hard to see that there is an important pickup there). The spiked ball that blocks the corridor is a pain as Lara needs to jump sideways repeatedly to get past it and this needs to be done several times both ways because of the 'roaming' nature of the level. Some nice textures but overall a little simple perhaps." - David (21-Jun-2002)
"Not a bad idea did this author had but maybe next time not such long long climbs you have to do over and over again. Very sneaky is the way the ninjas are shooting Lara in her back so pay attention as extra medpacks are not available. Four will even jump from behind pillars like in a circus. Other enemies you encounter is a lost scorpion here and there and 2 mummies easily to run past. Main goal is to get the 2 hand of Orion so you can get past that boulder that is blocking your way. Levers to pull and you have to do a bit of backtracking to find a door that opened. Camera angles might have been fun to make but for the gameplay it was no fun. The one hand of Orion is then easy to miss near the body of Seth. The boulder was a pain in the neck had me reloading too many times. 11-05-2002" - Gerty (21-Jun-2002)
"I quite enjoyed the backtracking nature of the gameplay. I loved the surprise Ninja attacks and the devious boulder slides together with the imaginative use of camera's. So why the low rating for gameplay? Well I had to think long and hard about this one but a read-through of some of the other reviews clinched it for me. There is a moment in the level where you need to get past a boulder (the result of an earlier sneaky trap) which is completely blocking your progress to the next room. However adjacent to the boulder is a door the lever for which (as far as I could make out) is situated at the top of a nearby long climb. Now pulling this lever presumably activates this door but aside from a sound effect nothing happens. Having no other alternative I DOZY'd over the boulder instead and subsequently ended the level. On completion I was able to ascertain that there were no other doors that the aforementioned lever could have opened so this was an extremely serious bug indeed which (without an element of cheating - or at least some very unorthodox jumping) would have prevented me from completing the level. If I've missed something here I hope the author will let me know. But it ruined it for me." - Orbit Dream (21-Jun-2002)
"This level is innovative and funny. The enemies are well placed and the atmosphere is exciting. The only thing I have to criticize is that the level is a bit too short." - Alexander (21-Jun-2002)
"There was a moment in this level where I thought that Climbing would be a more appropriate title but all in all I've got to say it's 27 minutes of solid tutorial entertainment. The two secrets I found were rather easy to spot and I was kind of disappointed when all I picked up after the pling! was a box of wideshot ammunition. A few minutes later I was extremely grateful for it as I got at attacked by 4 warriors of the desert all at once. So this has its little thrills supported by some effectful camera angles and the Egypt setting that I'm bored stiff with by and large. There are quite a lot of levers for such a short level and you won't find anything out of the ordinary but when you finally climb up into the sunlight you have to admit that there were no tedious bits here and that you actually enjoyed yourself while you were roaming around the tomb." - Dimpfelmoser (21-Jun-2002)
