Reviewer's comments
"Another house level based on the tr2/3 mansion again but actually a lot is different here when it comes to layout of rooms and outside etc, it certainly makes a refreshing change to another replica because it makes it a bit more intriguing to play but..... yes you guessed it, its another one of those house levels where your hunting for switches to open doors constantly and it gets old- fast because thats all there is to do apart from kill loads of bad guys and what adds to irritation is that theres no idea what switch opened what so run around run around run around until you trigger that gate outside and can finally leave the level behind in about 15 mins" - John (10-Aug-2021)
"It seems as though the builder was about to embark on a spree of TR2 rip-offs when fate decided that it had had about enough of this malarkey. In this, the builder’s final offering, the victim is “Home Sweet Home”, so it’s the mansion once again, after another redesign that didn’t do it any favours. Your goal is to leave through the front gate. This proves to be more circumstantial than in any official game, as the cause-and-effect relations are even more contrived. No task involves a timed run, but as in the builder’s previous level, each has been designed with the greatest possible amount of backtracking in mind. There are no camera hints. There are also almost no sounds except those associated with Lara.
You get to battle mostly goons with bats who have a thigh for a hand (no meshswap), only a few with masks, and some dogs. There is no real challenge in any of this since you pick up stuff in an order of magnitude rivalling Edward Orhue’s Section 13, but also for less predictable reasons. For one, near the end some unexpected help arrives (although it’s not unlikely that you’re going to antagonise them inadvertently); and not least, Orbit Dream is right: the thugs may be thugs, but they’re also gentlemen, and so are their dogs." - Mulf (03-Mar-2021)
"Another version of Lara's home this time being besieged by thugs and dogs whilst you go on an endless switch quest with no clue as to what the switch does or where. After the fifth or sixth you start to lose interest." - Torry (08-Dec-2019)
"I love this TRLE It reminds me of home sweet home and i TBH For me it felt like i was playing Home Sweet home again. There wasnt many puzzles but shooters are kinda cool to play once in a while" - JoeTheCrazyGamer (12-Sep-2018)
"Your goal here will be open the grated door to exit the mansion area, and to do that you'll go from room to room pressing buttons and pulling switches; and in between killing dozens of enemies. The worst is that there's not a single camera to show what door are you opening. At least there are enough guns and ammo. Not exactly the same old Lara's mansion, but some modified rooms and the outside area too. The best the texturization, but the level was very boring for me. Recommended only to pure shooters." - Jose (25-Jan-2018)
"A level where you open doors, push buttons that you don't know what they do, kill everyone and then the level is over. That sums it up. The area was gigantic and with almost no decoration, but killing the enemies was actually quite fun i have to admit. Good for a "kill them all" level, but it gets kinda boring to roam around. If i had to give one single suggestion, please add some camera work to the triggers" - Leeth (03-Aug-2016)
"Roaming in Lara's mansion pushing a few buttons and killing a few enemies (you might confuse your allies with your enemies...and kill them as well) and EVENTUALLY you'll hit the right button. The design of the mansion had a few modifications (not the good ones),it's bigger now with a lot more stairs and missing areas. Pretty much some cheap recreation of the lovely Home Sweet Home! in TR2." - Zhyttya (03-Aug-2016)
"This seemed like an extended version of the Home Sweet Home level from TR2. Lara's house has again been invaded(time for stronger security measures Lara?) but she quickly takes care of them. No puzzles or exciting gameplay, just mindless shooting." - Ryan (22-May-2016)
"Just another Core Design-styled manor release that has been re-created from scratch, with a considerable amount of rooms missing or changed, a random security force added(which has presumably been hired by Lara to deal with intruders), and plenty of thugs/dogs to kill in a similar fashion to TR2's 'Home Sweet Home' level, as you search for buttons/switches to push/pull, in order to access all too familiar areas that I'm sure most players have already seen to death by now. So if that sounds like something that you're willing to spend roughly around 10 minutes on overall, then give it a shot(although if you're not a fan of Home levels however, then this one isn't really going to change your mind.) Personally, I wouldn't recommend it." - Ceamonks890 (02-Jul-2015)
"As the builder of a very similar project, I can say I understand the idea behind this level. There are very contrasting ideas from this level to mine though, one is that mine was underdone, while I felt the author unnecessarily made bigger what was already big enough from the get go. The button placement is as random as it gets and it also throws logic out of the window by making buttons in one end of the house activate doors on the other end (without giving you a single clue about it). Imagine if Lara had to go through all that everytime she wanted to leave her home? lol Anyway, it seems behind every door there are new baddies but you're given enough weaponry and ammo to survive a couple of wars, so don't hold back. 15 minutes. 09/14" - Treeble (26-Sep-2014)
"Stretched textures? Like it matters! No camera hints for many switches? Like it matters! Bad lighting? Like it matters! The Coastal sound does not fit to the house level? Like it matters! Here actually everything makes no difference. Only interesting in this level are the wild gunfights with vast amounts of opponents. Since only therefore it goes. Lara must simply gather everything what she finds and everybody shoot which runs to her through the way. This is not valid of course for her own SWAT-Team. They help Lara later a little bit. What should I say in addition now? If you stand on wild gunfights with a vast ammounts of opponents, than here you are exactly right. All other makes no difference." - Scottie (22-Feb-2010)
"The others have said it another mansion. There was a certain charm here and I did definitely have a couple of moments of anxiety even though there is ample weaponry when entering some dark areas like the attic and cellar as at this stage you know there are loads of enemies thugs masked shooters and dogs and they pop up just about everywhere. The hunt for buttons and switches to allow exit out of the front gate will take roughly 20 minutes and it is 20 minutes of fast furious action so much so that when allies popped up near the end I had this thirst for mowing down things with my guns that I took them out without a twinge of guilt." - Sash (24-Jan-2004)
"This is a brand new Lara's Home level with numerous enemies: dogs tramps armed men. You have quite enough weapon so you don't need economizing them although you can get through the level by using only the pistols. You have to push buttons and switches which is usually followed by the appearance of an enemy. In the end interestingly the button next to the large gate opens the door on the storey and you can open the large gate here. :) The textures are everyday the house is a bit bleak and there are no added sounds. I didn't find a secret and I quickly completed the level. Who loves the Lara's Home levels take a look at it but there are far better ones." - Obig (18-Nov-2003)
"Dean is the name but Tony is on the download a relation perhaps! A nice version of Lara's mansion. Gameplay is finding switches to open doors (very easy). And along the way shooting dogs thugs soldiers and gunmen a lot of them who show up with predictable speed after almost each switch. I liked the little treasure room and the suitably dark attic and basement. Very short level. Only for people who want to go back home for a spell and do the mansion again." - CC (18-Nov-2003)
"The gameplay in this level is easy. Few puzzles and lots of switches to open many doors until you open the gate to finish the level." - Yoav (05-Nov-2003)
"Another look at Lara's Home which hasn't got anything new to offer. Lots of killers are attacking Lara (at the beginning it's tough with 5 at the same time) but if she manages to shoot them there are just a dozen levers to pull until she finally escapes outside. The lack of cameras to explain what the levers do is annoying. I can confirm Orbit Dream's observation by the way that - for whatever funny reason - the intruders don't enter the bathroom :-)" - Rdiger (03-Nov-2003)
"It looks like this level was built as a way to learn about the level editor and it's always nice to see something besides the tutorial level being rebuilt. This time it's another mansion for Lara a little different than the original and this time filled with thugs. Your objective is to find the secret button that will call for help for Lara guys in green berets and dark sunglasses that help take out the baddies and dogs. I say secret button because I'm still not sure which one called for help- there must have been thirty buttons and I'm not sure what most of them did. I found no secrets but did find plenty of pickups and finished in about twenty minutes." - RaiderGirl (29-Oct-2003)
"A short straight forward 'shoot 'em up' with plenty of firepower if you get Lara to her gun room before the hordes of thugs descend. Not hard just fun. Run around shooting and hitting/pulling wall switches and finding the doors they open. The author states you can find your way to the roof but I didn't try. Nice having Lara surrounded by good guys helping her to fight off the few remaining thugs. Just remember the upstairs door that is now open at the end and she'll be able to go through the front gate and.......it's over." - Bene (27-Oct-2003)
"Indeed a house level with a lot of baddies and dogs and also a plethora of ammo and weapons. Finding buttons to push and looking where what opened as there is no camera work. I just pushed the buttons and eventually did see where I needed to go. 21-10-2003" - Gerty (24-Oct-2003)
"Wow where did all those thugs and dogs come from? Yes it's a house party for hooligans. Just make sure you race to the cupboard and pick up the shotgun and ammo quickly and you'll be fine. The mansion environment is quite nicely done but the gameplay consists solely of pushing buttons and shooting baddies. If you like mansion levels this might make a good coffee break diversion as it only lasts about 20 minutes. There are more than sufficient pickups but I didn't find any secrets. 22.10.2003" - Jay (22-Oct-2003)
"It is still beyond me what urges builders to copy Lara's Home and this is no different. The textures are quite ok the lighting is non-existent and it is the usual run around and pull a few switches for 20 minutes plus kill a whole bunch of bat-wielding thugs and a few dogs and masked men with guns. And that pool water could definitely use some cleaning as green as it looks. I was not able to make it to the roof though as apparently the author claims is possible." - Michael (21-Oct-2003)
"If you're not a fan of the plethora of Home Levels out there I still recommend you take a look at this as it's a good laugh. Unfortunately I'm not absolutely certain whether the Builder intended it to be that way. Aside from the fact that you have enough ammo and weaponry to fight the entire coalition forces (thus rendering the enemy threat almost totally negligable) Lara nonetheless has a secret weapon to hand. Would this perhaps be the Grenade Launcher you ask? Or perhaps the rarely seen Bazooka? No it is in fact her Bathroom. Yes her Bathroom is not only a useful facility for bodily ablutions but it's also a handy place for dispatching pesky hordes of thuggish invaders. They'll stand on the threshold but being gentlemen at heart won't follow you in. You simply stand a few feet back from the doorway to the bedroom and shoot at the heavies as they pace to and fro around your bed. Should they get bored and wander off you merely walk into your bedroom and they'll obediently charge back in again. Now hop back into the sanctity of your bathroom and fire away once more. As for the rest you push buttons sprint around and then leave. Give it a go it only takes 20 minutes." - Orbit Dream (21-Oct-2003)
"I will give you one guess to tell me what kind of level this is; correct a house level. It doesn't have all the rooms nor the garden with the maze and the course is way shorter than usually but I am not complaining because that way I finished soon. Thugs, guys with bats and dogs are enemies to be found with the guys carrying bats coming at Lara in teams, I counted at least seven once. All there is to do is push buttons and release the troops at the end after you have killed most of the enemies. Fifteen minutes in this level that isn't very interesting." - Kristina (21-Oct-2003)
"As the title might suggest this is a Lara's mansion level (with some minor differences at least makes it more interesting than the usual houses) and it is invaded by a bunch of bad guys which you have to kill - luckily after collecting the ammo from the gun cupboard and the basement you should have nil problems with firearms and ammunition. The texture appliance lighting and architecture are rather poor as is the gameplay - there's also a lack of cameras but the level is simple enough so you should get it through in approximately 20 minutes as I did. Give it a try if you're not tired of the house levels yet." - eTux (21-Oct-2003)
